The defect
Plastic pin inside the buckle shield can break after force IS applied in repeated use.
The risk
The broken shield would make the buckle difficult to fasten; if the buckle IS not securely fastened, the child would not be properly restrained in a sudden stop or accident.
The remedy
Install new shield that will be sent by fisher price to involved seat owners calling the toll free number 800-527-1034.
