10240235Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from Ford Motor Company that a condition exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with Altec equipment. On certain Expedition and Navigator model year 2018 to 2023 vehicles built March 2017 through May 2023; Super Duty model year 2019 to 2023 vehicles built March 2018 to May 2023, the supplemental owner's guide does not include an accurate description of all head restraints and instructions for adjusting or removing certain center head restraints. The inability to access this information increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
10210823The body compartment wiring on certain Altec aerial devices, digger derricks, and body-only units built from 2014 to 2021 contains an in-line fuse located close to the lighting in the compartment, while other units are fused upstream, closer to the power source. Altec has learned that the units affected should have an in-line fuse close to the lighting, but this fuse was not installed on some units. In addition, some units may have exposed terminals at the end of certain portions of the wiring in the body. If the exposed terminals contact each other or with ground, the resulting direct short could damage the body compartment lighting. Inspect the body compartment lighting circuit at the unit's next scheduled service interval or within six months of receiving the SIL, whichever comes first. Use the Inspection Procedure or contact Altec to perform the inspection. This inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer's warranty provider. Altec will perform the work for free at an Altec facility. If the customer or the customer's warranty provider performs the work, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the parts and/or labor.
10189945It has been discovered that some hydraulic lines installed by Altec may be in contact with chassis air brake line(s). Some DOT inspections have considered this to be a violation of federal regulation 49 CFR 393.45 b 2. Over time, chafing of the air brake line(s) could result in loss of air pressure and reduction in braking performance. Altec requires the routing of the hydraulic lines to be inspected no later than the next periodic maintenance interval. The affected unit are some T40P cable placers installed on Ford F750 chassis from May 2015 to January 2020
10186580Some aluminum body doors and box lids require excessive force and may make a popping sound when being opened and closed. Certain bodies are equipped with doors or box lids that contain aluminum hinge rods going through metal hinges that are manufactured from a different metal. Under some conditions the hinges can stick or seize due to salt solutions that damage the protective coating of the aluminum hinge rod. If the hinge rod seizes, it can cause damage to the hinge, door, or box lid. To protect the hinge rod from being damaged and seizing, clean the hinge rod and apply a corrosion inhibitor lubricant. A checklist and lubrication process is provided with the notification to include in the Preventive Maintenance and Inspection Checklist for future use.
10169788Altec discovered that during the installation of certain chipper body units on Ford F750 chassis that the chassis brake system may have had brake fluid added that can be incompatible with the original equipment manufacturer type fluid. The addition of a different brake fluid should not affect the braking ability of the chassis. However, mixing two types of brake fluid together is not recommended by Ford. Altec recommends that each affected unit have the brake fluid tested for contamination of two types of brake fluid. Customers can order Brake Fluid Analysis Kit, part number 990956561, to begin the analysis process. The customer will draw a brake fluid sample and ship the sample to a laboratory for the analysis in a prepaid envelope. The results of the analysis will be returned to Altec to be communicated to the customer for further action, if needed.
