Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2024 Audi Q8 Sportback E-Tron Quattro and Q8 E-Tron Quattro vehicles. The brake line connection may have been over-tightened and fail, resulting in a brake fluid leak and reduced braking ability.
Reduced braking ability can cause longer brake pedal travel or extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and replace the brake pressure line as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 9, 2024. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 47DE.
On XXX, I experienced a sudden, potentially catastrophic failure of multiple critical safety systems in my Audi Q8 e-tron while traveling southbound on [XXX] near [XXX], at approximately 70 mph in heavy traffic. Without warning, the vehicle began beeping and displayed malfunction warnings for both the braking system and emergency braking system. I immediately pressed the brake pedal, but **the brakes did not respond and I was unable to slow or stop the vehicle using the brake pedal.** At approximately the same time, the vehicle experienced multiple additional system malfunctions: - The power steering assistance failed, making the vehicle significantly more difficult to steer. - The digital instrument display malfunctioned. - The vehicle would not shut down despite my attempts to turn it off. - The emergency braking system displayed a malfunction warning, leaving me without confidence that the vehicle's emergency braking capabilities were operational. **I was traveling at approximately 70 mph on a crowded interstate with no functioning braking response and severely impaired vehicle control.** I feared for my life and for the safety of surrounding motorists. I managed to exit [XXX], but the dangerous condition persisted. As I approached the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, I nearly collided with multiple vehicles because the brakes would not respond. I subsequently encountered two additional traffic lights while attempting to reach the Audi dealership, with the braking problem continuing throughout the drive. This was not a momentary warning or isolated malfunction. I experienced an extended loss of essential vehicle control functions, creating repeated risks of serious or fatal collisions involving myself and other motorists. I ultimately reached Audi Hilton Head in [XXX], where the vehicle was left for evaluation. The vehicle should be available for inspection through the deale INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
