Risk
Obscured reflectors may reduce the visibility of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will modify the license plate holder to reposition the rear side reflex reflectors, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 13, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Remedy

If the rear reflex reflectors are obscured from view, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will install reflectors on the cases or for the case mounts, an additional bracket with rear reflex reflectors, free of charge. The recall began October 16, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

This motorcycle and several other models and production years in this series using this engine are not equipped with an oil pressure sensor nor a low/no oil pressure indicator in the instrument panel. While in operation, a low/no oil pressure condition could cause engine seizure, leading to rear wheel lockup, resulting in a skid and potential crash. Not having a low/no oil pressure indicator increases the likelihood of a crash as the condition could be present without warning the operator to take appropriate action. If having an oil pressure indicator is not a current regulatory requirement for motorcycles powered by combustion engines, request consideration of making it a requirement.

- 10151350Coolant pump drain hose. Details The coolant pump is fitted with a radial shaft seal on the oil-side and on the coolant-side is a mechanical seal. Mechanical seals are reliable an durable, yet for technical reasons, they always exhibit minor seepage. The seepage amount is considered to be within permissible limits if the coolant does not need to be topped up between service intervals. The drain hole (arrow in the figure) of the coolant pump is in plain view. Even small, inevitable seepage is noticed and often perceived to be a faulty coolant pump. In many such cases, fault-free coolant pumps are replaced. In order to reduce misdiagnosis and repeat repairs, a drain hose is retrofitted. The hose diverts the seepage away from the field of view to under the engine. Yet large amounts of leakage that indicate a faulty coolant pump will be noticed.
