Technical service bulletins and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about this vehicle. Ask a dealer for the full document by its number.
10249027The electrical system of BMW vehicles has been subject to an ongoing development process over the last few years. This has led to increased demands being placed on the battery. This document covers important information for the dealer on how to handle discharged battery complaints.
10242928Front and rear wheel speed sensor faults (0x3A1800 and 0x3A1801) appear after the bike is being revvedover 5000 RPM while still on the side stand, sometimes in conjunction with the side stand fault 0X3A1331. When the engine is revved up while on the side stand, vibrations are sent through the entire motorcycle. This vibration intensity varies from bike to bike. This vibration can cause particular movement between the wheel speed sensor and the sensor ringsdepending on the position of the sensor to the ring. The movement is picked up as rotation speed and iscalled ghost speed. This ghost speed follows the increase in RPMs. 5000 RPM = approx. 12 MPH 10000 RPM = approx. 31 MPH
10240498Check rocker arms and replace where needed.
10205098Due to a process deviation during production, the surface coating of the rocker arms may wear prematurely.
10201170When diagnosing fault codes (0x3A13D7, 0x3A13D9), technicians erroneously condemn the electronic throttle grip, which analyses show is rarely the culprit.
10200263The engine wiring harness may chafe on the honeycomb structure of the frame. In case of damage to the wiring harness, the wake-up line of the instrument cluster will be damaged.
10200261During assembly, an additional mounting bolt was installed on the ABS pressure modulator instead of a plastic rivet.
10200260Depending on the chassis and suspension adjustment, as well as vehicle load, the drive chain may make contact with the swing arm under certain conditions.

10181239The engine wiring harness may chafe on the honeycomb structure of the frame. In case of damage to thewiring harness, the wake-up line of the instrument cluster will be damaged. The instrument cluster will nolonger be activated with "Ignition ON?.
10177639On the S 1000 models, the seal for the coolant circuit of the oil/coolant pump was manufactured from an incorrect material. This could lead to a minor leakage of coolant into the oil circuit. The oil/coolant pump must be replaced.
10176385BMW Motorrad has ascertained that the engine installed in the affected vehicles may have a burr present in the guide bore for the oil supply of the timing chain. The burr can dislodge over time due to vibrations and oil pressure fluctuations (incl. temperature influences). This can cause a narrowing or restriction of an oil duct or oil spray nozzle. A lack of lubrication (e.g. the timing chain) or insufficient cooling (e.g. the piston) can be the result.

10154766Rattling/chattering engine noise from the timing chain.
10151427During an interim period, some vehicles ordered with a luggage carrier were being shipped with grab handles in its place. This was done in order to ensure that all luggage carriers meet the quality standards of BMW Motorrad and to avoid a delay in vehicle delivery. A printed advisory to this effect accompanies those bikes.
10151426BMW Motorrad has ascertained that in some cases the shift assistant was unable to function correctly. This cause is incorrect vehicle-specific programming of the shift assistant by the supplier.

10151239When the brake system is filled with fluid for the first time in the assembly plant, a float is installed in the fluid reservoir of the handbrake fitting (see Figures 1 and 2). This float is required only for the initial, vacuum-assisted filling of the system. As long as the float remains in the reservoir it is subsequently not possible to obtain a clear reading of the brake-fluid level. In order to make it easier for the fluid level to be read correctly, the float has to be removed.

10147805There is a notch visible in the lower part of the right grab handle. The fault/defect is due to a tooling error.

10147234Handlebar weight with hand protection. Vehicles with hand protection, the mounting screw for the handlebar weight becomes loose.
10147233The NAVIGATOR v5 does not link with the motorcycle when mounted in the cradle. Cradle harness plugged into the wrong connector.
10147232Implausible RPM values displayed, speed indicator shows "---", DDC and or ABS lamp lights up. Loose threaded connector.
10147229An improper running-in process of inner engine components may lead to accelerated wear and engine damage.

10136317Motorcycle does not start after it has been parked for a short period of time - this is due to excessive pressure in the fuel line. A software update has been created to eleviate this.
10136316Engine is placed into emergency operation mode and max rpm is reduced due to a deviation in throttle signals. Signal evaluation software has been reworked and should be installed.
