Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
1 recall names the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Newest first.
General motors IS recalling certain model year 2005 through 2007 corvette vehicles equipped with a removable roof and model year 2006 and 2007 corvette Z06 vehicles. The adhesive between the roof panel and the frame may separate. If there IS a partial separation, the driver may notice one or more symptoms, such as a snapping noise when driving over bumps…
If there IS a complete separation, the roof panel may detach from the vehicle. if this were to occur while the vehicle was being driven, it could strike a following vehicle and cause injury and/or property damage.
Dealers will install a new design roof panel free of charge. the safety recall IS expected to begin during april 2010. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or at www.gmownercenter.com.
Vehicle has a really intense smell of gasoline inside cabin when cars parked or in drive.
The head issue valve guide on the heads was completely out of spec....have repaired car twice because of this issue '.
The last 2 days when I drive at night the headlights (low beams) shut off. I switch to the high beams and they work. this has happened in the dark and IS dangerous because it happens about 30 or 40 minutes after driving the car. I let the car sit for 4 or 5 hours and then come back and they start working. it IS the underhood bussed electrical center (ubec) housing I suspect.
Dangerous conditions. exhaust valve design causes ear that eventually breaks exhaust valve and destroys engine. exhaust valve loose enough to break and cause engine damage, possible fire and/or flammable fluid leakage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtoa3vlgoes
Vehicle IS always stationary when it gets stuck in park, and unable to shift into gear. I let it set for a few minutes then push start again. Sometimes it will shift into gear and other times it will not. 50/50 chance one way or the other. this has happened several times since I inherited this vehicle from my father in early 2017 with 48,000 miles on it. fast forward to today 03/09/2018 vehicle does not go into park but IS "stuck" in neutral, does not go into park or any other gear.

My 10,000 mile 2007 heads are at ahp for rebuilding. They reported back that 1 exhaust and 3 intake guides were worn past the service limit. Several others were close or at the limit.
'Takata recall' just bought a 2007 Z06 corvette and lately I've been seeing a lot of complaints about the valve stems breaking and causing catastrophic engine failture causing the power steering and breaks to fail so now I have to pay 5000.00 + to get it serviced and every 10K miles do the same thing because the valve stem and guides get hot and start to wiggle
At 65mph, driving down the highway, the car made a horrendous loud clattering sound and the motor locked up. Pulled to the side of the road to see oil pouring out the side of the engine block, where the valve was spit out - causing a huge hole in the side of the motor
My 2007 chevrolet corvette Z06 droped a valve while I was driving home. I was on a regular 45mph speed limit road in traffic when I realized the car was losing power and quickly pulled on the side of the road because there were cars in front and behind me. Luckily nobody was hurt but if I had been on a highway in the middle lane someone could have lost their life including me. From the second I realized the car was losing power to the point the engine shut off was a matter of 5 seconds maybe. After doing much research online I found out there IS a very common problem with valve guides being out of spec in this model corvette.
#1 azdanz06's avatarazdanz06 , 01-06-2015 11:27 am link to file complaint: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/vehicl...nt/index.xhtml I just filed a complaint with the nhtsa about the out of spec valve guide issue, I would encourage everyone else to do so as well, maybe just maybe it will force gm to finally do a recall and qc on parts. here IS my complaint: I was concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines, 88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-registry.html gm needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause accidents and fires. Gm IS very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. #2 whis9's avatarwhis9 , 01-06-2015 11:39 am
There IS a leak at the top of my fuel tank. Whenever the tank IS 3/4 fill or greater, fuel sloshes out of the top of the tank and pools on top of the tank and sometimes drips down onto the exhaust.. Parking the car overnight in the garage IS filling my garage with fuel vapors and I am concerned the dripping fuel may be a fire risk.
Valve broke and locked up engine. Car skidded off highway and was destroyed. I was driving on interstate and it was raining. No indication of problem before event
I was concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines, I took my car with 27000 miles on it to a corvette specialty shop to have my valve guide clearance tested. I had (2) intake valve guides outside of service specifications, (4) exhaust valve guides outside of service specifications, and a combination of (10) other intake and exhaust valve guides at or near the maximum outside of service specifications. The car IS being repaired with proper re-machining of the heads to make the valve guides concentric, new intake and exhaust valve guides installed, as well as new seals, valves, springs, etc. 88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...-registry.html gm needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause accidents and fires. I've read several different posts about people with 2007 corvettes having problems with valves and dropping valves and losing control when this because of the power steering and brakes not working when this happens. I bought my 2007 corvette Z06 new back in 2007 and I've always noticed valve noise and lately it seems a little louder. I hear the valve noise mostly driving it in town. I'm not sure if I should just wait for the valves to fail and take my chances or pay to have someone to pull the heads and check all the valves and repair any ones that are out of specification. So I think it's gm's responsibility to do a recall for this because in my opinion this IS a defect and it would be very dangerous to drop a valve and lose control of my car. I spent a lot of money on this car and I just don't feel I should need to pay anymore money to diagnose and fix this problem. My headlights stopped working tonight and luckily there IS a recall for that problem.
The exhaust valve broke off, and engine blew up. I was driving on highway.
As I was driving on the highway my car started to swerve left then right, resulting a total wipeout. I was driving at safe speed and with control. The "service active handling' warning came up after I took control of the car on the side of the hightway.
I am extremely concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by gm's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines causing a loss of control of the vehicle due to the engine stopping abruptly. 88% of the corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-z06-discussion/3386141-the-out-of-spec-guide-wear-registry.html gm needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause severe accidents and fires. Gm IS very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. It has been noted on the forum that gm IS very aware of the issues and I assume they think no one will report them for not handling it correctly. the issue IS this IS a critical safety issue for anyone driving a 06-13 Z06 model on the road. I am to the point I don't feel safe to drive my vehicle anymore due to the loud 'ticking' valve-train as it IS (symptom) meaning it IS likely to fail at any moment seizing the engine while on the road. I have waited on gm for 6 years to do the correct thing on their own but I am now reporting it due to their gross negligence and disregard of their customers safety.
While driving on the road at aprox. 45Mph, my car exhaust valve dropped in the motor causing immediate engine failure also creating power steering and power brakes to stop working immediately. this same exhaust valve issues occurred with many other gm corvettes with the 7.0liter Z06 motor.
Valve train rocker arms broken leaving needle bearings in the oil, and all valve guides were out of tolerance. *tr
When I had the motor checked proactively the exhaust valve guides were outside of gm specifications. This defect can cause the head of a valve to snap off and destroy the engine. The engine will stop working immediately, causing the power steering and power brakes systems to fail. The valve failure can cause an oil spill onto the road if the engine IS compromised. There have been numerous documented cases of engine failure as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder. This can cause a catastrophic accident or fire. Gm IS very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. I was forced to spend in excess of $3K to insure I did not harm anyone or myself. Best regards *tr
After months of reading about the exhaust valve issue with corvette Z06S I took my car and had the heads checked. The shop found the valve guide clearance to be outside the specified acceptable range. The defect puts undue stress on the sodium filled valves and if the valve fails it can cause catastrophic engine damage and potentially deadly situation if this occurs at speed on the roadway as the driver will lose ability to control the vehicle potentially causing a deadly accident. I paid several thousand dollars out of pocket to fix this issue despite gm acknowledging there IS an issue with these vehicles.
This model corvette can suddenly drop an engine valve (exhaust or intake) and unexpectedly develop a hole in the block accompanied with oil spilled on the roadway, smoke billowing with risk for vehicles behind and in front, and the risk for total loss of power steering, braking and control of the vehicle. the outcome if this happened on a freeway with cars traveling at a high rate of speed IS potentially fatal. all of this IS due to machining errors and supplier defects for the associated parts (valves, guides, etc.) on all 2006-2013 corvette C6 Z06'S made by gm. *tr
Wiggle test on all valves showed all exhaust valves with excessive guid where....safety issue....!!! this can and has led to catastrophic engine failure at freeway speeds....... *tr
I took my car to american heritage performance in california and had the heads checked and they were all out of speck, at 16000 miles, and this car was only street driven, and had to have all this work done on a low mileage car was very upsetting, and in the end finding out that many cars have this problem. Having to get all this work done on a virtually new car IS ridiculous.. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On May 14, 2014, General Motors (GM) submitted a Part 573 defect information report initiating NHTSA Safety Recall 14V-251 to remedy the subject vehicles.GM will remedy a defect condition in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) by modifying the vehicle's electrical harnessing.GM also announced a customer satisfaction bulletin to address this issue on model year (MY) 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvettes. Both programs will be conducted free of charge.According to GM, when the engine heats up and cools down (from normal use), the plastic material in the UBEC housing expands at a different rate than an electrical conductor routed within it.The difference in expansion rates results in bending of the conductor, a control circuit for the low beam headlights. After multiple thermal cycles, often taking several years of use, the conductor fractures resulting in an open circuit. When this occurs the low-beam headlights will not illuminate. After the engine is turned off and the UBEC cools, the conductor may temporarily reconnect and restore low-beam function, although subsequent failures will occur. This condition does not affect high-beam headlights, marker lamps, turn signals or fog lamps.Simultaneous loss of low-beam headlights could reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The ODI report counts noted above, involving the loss of low beam headlights, represents those received at the time of GM's recall filing; however NHTSA has since received additional complaints.GM submitted similar complaints in response to the agency's information request.Among the complaints reported to NHTSA, five alleged minor crashes in which the vehicle ran off the road or into roadside objects due to the sudden loss of headlights. Two of these complaints alleged minor injuries and three alleged property damage.Several other reports to NHTSA alleged close calls due to the loss of lighting.GM states that it has received no reports of crashes, injuries or fatalities as a result of this condition. GM's recall action appears to adequately address the safety risks in the subject vehicles of concern to ODI.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. In addition to recalling the subject vehicles, GM is covering MY 2008-2013 Corvettes, which contain essentially the same UBEC, under a customer satisfaction campaign.ODI notes that these vehicles exhibit a lower likelihood of failure due to their comparatively shorter service life. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 30 reports from consumers alleging that, after driving for a short time (5 to 30 minutes), both low beam headlights stopped working simultaneously and without warning. The low beam headlights remained inoperative for the remainder of the drive cycle, however no other lighting is affected.General Motors (GM) provided information in response to ODI's information request letter explaining that the loss of headlights is caused by a fractured low beam circuit wire in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC), a device that is similar to a fuse box. The UBEC is located in a high heat area near the engine, and the low beam circuit wire routing within the UBEC makes it susceptible to cyclical stress caused by thermal expansion. The investigation covers model years 2005-2007 Corvettes however ODI also has received four VOQs alleging the same condition in model year 2008 Corvettes. ODI is upgrading the investigation to an Engineering Analysis to further examine the consequences, frequency and scope of this problem.
