Repeatedly took car to watertown spring because anti lock brakes were seizing up, repeatadly. We had to lose money on our trip to nascar race due to our safety concerns, knowing hills, traffic, police activity in race area. We have now spent additional finds on steering and transmission service.
My car IS leaking gas ive gottin it fixed twice but it keeps continuing to leak. *js
I am the owner of a 1993 chrysler fifth avenue with anti lock brakes. (Bendix 10). the vehicle was repaired according to the recall in october of 2009. The problem has recurred in august of 2010. The brakes are impossible to apply because of the pressure. The fix by the dealership was ineffective, lasting less then one year. *tr
1993 chrysler fifth avenue has a problem with the brakes. *nj the consumer was informed there was a recall on the ABS, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. the consumer paid for the repair work. However, one month later the brakes failed and the ABS light illuminated. One month after that, the brakes failed again, the dealer made the repair, but it didn't last. The brakes failed again, but before the consumer could get to the dealer, they started working again. Finally, after the fourth time of the brakes failing, the consumer was told a dual pressure switch was stuck on off and a new switch was needed. *Jb
On 9/25/2008 I brought my car to the chrysler place in warner robins, ga because the ABS brakes went out. I was informed there was a recall on those brakes. I was charged $498.66 for what was under warranty. On 10/23/2009 I brought my car back because the brakes went out again. The service person stated that I needed some other things replaced but they would work within the warranty. On 11/06/2008 I brought the car back because the brakes went out again. I brought the car back may 25, 2009 because the brakes went out again. I was informed that I would have to replace the dual pressure switch which was locked in the off position and was not covered under the warranty. The service person informed me that before they could check the warranty replacements, I would have to replace that switch which cost $513. I paid almost $500 for a warranty replacement and now I have to pay over $500 to see whether or not the warranty replacements are working. I placed not only my life but the life of others on the road in danger when I drive not knowing when the brakes will stop working. How IS it that they get them to work for a while and then they stop working? I realized that my car IS old and it was old when I purchased it. I was not aware of the ABS recall when I bought the car. I do not understand all the mechanical language as to what needs to be replaced and what IS covered under the lifetime warranty. All I want IS the brakes fixed or provide a safe car until they can fix it. I do not have $500 nor can I risk my life driving that vehicle to warner robins without brakes. I took 4 chances already in an effort to get the brakes fixed. I can't fight anymore. Not only am I putting my life at risk but the lives of other motorist. I have been given the run around not only by the dealership but others who keep sending me to everybody who can't or refuse to assist me. My car IS old but it IS all I have. I need a vehicle in this rural area with a sick mother who I care for. Please help. *Tr
Fuel rail started leaking for no apparent reason pouring gas on intake, valve covers and exhaust manifolds. This IS a fire hazard that could cause damage and/or injury to vehicle and it's occupants. *jb

Consumer parked vehicle and then went 35 miles to take care of some business. But when she returned home , stopped at a red light, and vehicle would not move. she had vehicle towed to her home. there, her husband looked at the vehicle and diagnosed that transmission failed. consumer heard that there was a recall on the transmission.*ak
Consumer states she came out of the store and noticed that her tire on the passenger side had a bulge in it, the size of a baseball. she also states she now IS a little uncomfortable now driving her car because something may happen. she has continental tire on her car, but does not know the size. she also states she rarely drives her auto, so there IS not a lot of miles on the tire, to cause this kind of bulging.
Consumer states the ignition switch and the wiring harness under the dash shorted out causing it to melt. *tt the consumer experienced the same with a 1993 chrysler fifth ave. *scc
Anti-lock module has failed resulting in loss of anti-skid control. consumer advised of previous recall on ABS system, the vehicle has been repaired 3 time for this problem. *Ak *nlm
Rack and pinion wobbles at various speeds.*ak consumer stated the wobbling at the steering wheel IS very silent, when turing the vehicle that IS when the noise IS heard, consumer no longer owns the vehicle.*jb
I was behind a panel van at a traffic light and started to move forward at about 2MPH. I heard a loud snapping sound and rattling noise. Applied the brakes, put the car into park and released the brakes but the car started to move backwards. I set the parking brake and got out to see what was wrong. under the driver's side was a large puddle of transmission fluid and the transmission was leaking badly. I towed the car back to my driveway and checked the transmission case. I found a crack in the differential area. I contacted an aamco transmission specialist and was told that this was a very common problem with this model transmission used on 3.8L engines and most of their business was replacing/repairing these transmissions. the specialist had to replace the case and internal parts which cost me $1000.00. I was given the failed parts was told what happens with this transmission, warning me never to spin the tires--if I get stuck in the snow, call a tow truck. if the tire(s) spin, the spider gears spin rapidly on the spider axle and overheat. one or both of the gears weld themselves to their axle and snap the retaining pin. over a period of time, the spider axle works its way out of the yoke and strikes the inside of the case breaking the case. this time, a piece of the spider axle broke off and entered the torque converter area through another hole it created damaging the crankshaft position sensor. this IS a safety issue since, without the spider gear assembly, there IS no parking gear. if the car IS parked on an incline, the spider axle drops out and the driver leaves the car without noticing the car IS in motion, the car can roll uncontrollably. this IS terrible engineering and a safety concern. an investigation should be launched with possible recalls/reimbursements for repairs made. there IS also a flaw in the main shaft from the troque converter that causes transmission failure--a weak weld joining thin metal parts can fail without notice. *A
ABS problems.
Received a manufacturer's recall concerning ABS on 10/98. Dealer looked at vehicle approximately 10 minutes or less, and informed consumerthat everything was okay. Manufacturer's recall notice informed consumer that vehicle repairs would take at least one hour. Also, vehicle has been experiencing problems with brake pads, which needed to be replaced every 9 months to one year. Seeking help or further information from nhtsa in this matter. Also consumer would be passing on additional information on this matter on return mail. *ak
Ongoing problem with headlights/instrument panel, and disengaged cruise control. Whenever vehicle reaches speed of 69 mph. If speed IS below 69 mph or at 72 mph headlights/instrument panel and cruise control would remain operational. Dealer/manufacturer were not notified at this time. *Ak
During blizzard conditions, engine compartment filled with snow. Serpentine belt was knocked off of pulleys on vehicle start up. 7TH occurence.
The front rotors were rusting and deteriorating. Small pieces of rotors were coming off. Will be taking to dealer. *ak
On this vehicle and another I owned with the 3.3 l engine, there IS a recurring problem with the serpentine belt . When it IS necessary to drive through snow drifts of maybe 10" to 12" or when high winds drive snow and/or sleet into the engine bay, this IS enough to cause the belt to slip off the pulleys. This causes total loss of charging function, cooling function, power steering. Naturally there IS no heat to keep the windshield clear of fogging, the headlights go quite dim. I have been able to count on replacing this belt at least once each winter season, and somtimes twice. Once the belt IS knocked off it tends to get damaged to the point that it IS not safe to use. Each time this has cost about $60. The cost IS not the issue, rather, it IS the aggravation.
ABS actuator piston assembly/pump/motor recall work performed however prior and after repair system has failed.
Oil leak from faulty head gasket.
While driving the air bag light comes on and off periodically. The owner took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. the dealer was unable to access the computer/ airbag controller. *Ak
Defroster inoperative, causing condensation on the inside of the windows/poor visibility.
Electrical short, when driving vehicle the fan motor will not disengage, causing the vehicle to overheat. Also stalling problems and electrical problems.*ak
Antilock brakes failed three times, causing brake pedal to fade.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Mr. Larry a. Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the defective collapsible steering shaft system on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.in part because of 49 cfr ? 30120(G), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge RAM series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.if the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.a review of odi's data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.therefore, the petition IS denied.for details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.
