1 recall names the 2007 Dodge Nitro 4X2. Newest first.
On certain passenger and sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks equipped with automatic transmissions, the software programmed into the powertrain control module can cause a momentary lock up of the drive wheels if the vehicle IS traveling over 40 mph and the operator shifts from drive to neutral and back to drive.
If the drive wheels locked up, loss of vehicle control could occur increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module free of charge. the recall began on october 2, 2006. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4X2. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle slowed down and stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to ray laethem chrysler dodge jeep RAM (18001 mack ave, detroit, mi 48224, (313) 884-7210), but was not diagnosed due to the cost. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was unknown.
I have owned the car since 2012 and have no major issues until now. My rear b.c. Ack passengers window malfunctioned out of nowhere and I treat my truck with the most car. I maintain it, service it, garage kept, and it only has 90000 miles as of last year when I was forced to drive it.
The driver side break light and reverse light has had to be replaced too frequently. Now the gear shift - diag code u0103 seems to cause the loss of communication of the gear position. That only allows the vehicle to only travel about 20mph and approx 3000 rpm , which can be very dangerous if there IS a unexpected slow down on the highway
2007 4X2 dodge nitro recall. The airbag light stays on. It just appeared out of nowhere about a week ago
Electronical issues, like I'm unable t ok open trunk or lock and unlock vehicle with keys check engine light as well as an exclamation point turns on and of while car IS on drive. airbag light doesn't turn off even if both passenger and driver have seatbelts on it beeps while driving
Emergency brake fails. When it first began IS was not often, but became more frequent. Upon parking (anywhere) and engaging the brake it doesn't keep the vehicle from moving.

We were driving like every morning to our work and when we try to pass the intersection we have to stop on a yield sign to let the other traffic pass. When I try to hit the accelerate all the lateral air bags exploded without reason and the1st thing we thought was that someone hit us. I try to move the car and the car wasn't running at all also I cannot stop it so I have to turn in off. We go out of the car to see if we got hit but the car didn't have anything so we try to see under the car and all the drive shaft was cracked in half! The sheriffs come to the scene and they can't believe that the car was in that condition if we didn't have a wreck or anything! They say that everything looks like a safety recall, we did a research online and was right my car has a safety recall since 2013 and they never send me a letter or call me to let me know about it! I drove that car everyday to work,to pick up my kids from school etc..etc.. And I can't believe what happened I could die if my car wasn't stop! I was very lucky that I was on a yield sign when everything happen. Now my car insurance didn't want to pay anything because they found out about the recall and told me that the agency has to pay for everything because that was a manufacturer problem! But the dodge don't want to pay or fix anything they also have the nerve to told me that my car didn't had a safety recall at all even when the mopar page say that my car did had a recall! Now I'm without car and dealing with the expenses of towing my car etc..etc..
For over the last year my car has been locking and unlocking on its own . My horn had been sounding off even while im driving without me utilizing the horn and even when im at home without the alarm on. I also have had repaet issue with the headlight and taillights because the wires keep burning out .
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4X2. The contact stated that the doors and rear hatch would not unlock unless the engine was running. The contact also stated that the driver's side air bag warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but the details of the diagnostic could not be provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,100.
The gas tank doesn't stop the pump when it's full resulting in gas overflowing everywhere.
Breaks have gone out twice now and I have been told its because of me running with my emergency brake on. Not true and I have had to replace all breaking system. Cruise control does not work while on hwy took it to dealership 3 times and they said it works. I have had electrical issues with window motors and wipers along with cruise control
Buying a used 2007 dodge nitro 4X4 r/t had it a year and a half with 84,000 mils on it started it up one morning to go get an oil change stopping at mail box first about 20 feet away from my house turned off truck got mail returned to truck would not start tow it to dealer said my engine was bad need to be replaced so it cost me $7,900 to replace , the tires have all ways never keeps it air
I stopped and pulled over to move my seat andtruck shut down in the middle of the street, wipers, horn and lights going haywire for 15-20 minutes removed the battery cables truck kept running and removed the key from the ignition still kept running, I proceded to drive to a gas station for help by a mechanic and stopped in a vacant lot and the vehicle finally stopped making noise. Turned the vehicle off and tried to start it and nothing no crank over or start, so I have been stranded since christmas day on the road and now with no vehicle.
A few years ago I had to replace the air conditioning unit. last year I had to replace the rack and pinion. this year I've had to replace the alternator and the check engine light IS on. I currently have around 165K miles on the truck. the check engine light stays on, now they have to do the smoke test and I'm afraid of the outcome/costs. :( I also have smaller broken things, the glove box hinge broke, the tire sensor has had to be replaced at least 3 times since I had the truck. also, there's a clicking sound in the steering column. along with the lighting IS out where the drive/reverse/etc indicator IS (it's where I shift). I'm 55 years old and not hard on the car, constant oil change/tuneup and all maint things are up to date. I can't believe it IS now falling apart. I've never had to replace an ac or rack and pinion on any vehicle I've ever owned. I'm besides myself having to pay out all this money for a vehicle thats only 8 years old. what was once sugar IS now [xxx] (excuse my language). I will never buy another dodge again. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4X2. While driving approximately 40 to 45 mph, the engine seized without warning. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the electronic module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Filled my gas tank up today and the gas kept coming out once it was full. It had spilled all over me, my car, and the ground.
Doors lock and unlock at will - causing headlights to come on during the night which has killed my battery several times... So I had to take the battery out of the key fob which means the security system can't be set.. The radio IS buzzing and screeching at will - works sometimes and then it won't but restarting the vehicle usually fixes this... The air bag light comes on and off at will and even stays on most of the driving time... The gas cap warning light comes on and off at will - have replaced the gas cap twice in the past year and it continues to give this warning... - I've researched this on the internet and there are many nitro owners having the same problem... Does someone have to get hurt in order for dodge to take responsibility for changing the tipm in their vehicles???? *tr
There IS an electrical issue with the control module has to be - strange things keep happening, door locks are activating by themselves causing headlights to stay on and running down battery and other times its door locks won't work at all with or without using key fob, radio IS working sporadically and making strange loud noises, there's even a whistle sound coming form the fuse box at times, the air bag light comes on and off at will. I've read where a lot of nitro's are doing this and it seems to be some type of control module. this really needs to be addressed before I have an accident and can't get out of my vehicle. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4X2. While driving approximately 10 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure recurred twice. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v291000 (electrical system). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the totally integrated power module was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
When backing up vehicle hesitates . When speeding up on the highway vehicle bumps like transmission IS coming out of case like it IS pushing car forward. When stopping at high speeds vehicle steering wheel shakes and car squeals coming from left front brakes. While driving down the road vehicle pulls to the right. When at a stop light rpms go all the way down like vehicle IS ready to stall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. The contact stated that the doors failed to lock and unlock independently. The problem recurred on various occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle just died going down the road electrical quit, engine quite, power steering and power brakes quit working. *tr
I bought a 2007 dodge nitro. I noticed after I bought it there was hesitation when it got to about 40 mph. I also experienced while sitting at a light that the rpm would drop way down and the car would almost stall then rpm would come right back up. My heat quit working along with the door locks and the washer fluid would not spray out. I checked the fuse and one was blown so I changed it, that one blew as well and all power to the car was lost. Come to find out the tipm needs to be replaced. They say these are supposed to last the life time of vehicle. I am lucky my car didn't catch fire as a result of this. I took it to the dealer and there were actually wires melting under the fuse box. There should definitely be a recall on this. I have owned a dodge RAM before and loved it that's why I went with dodge again but nothing but problems in the 4 months that I have owned this vehicle. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is den
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. Odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. Dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) IS lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal IS restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. Odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. This investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.
