Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2007 Dodge Nitro 4X4. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
Fuel tank overflows every time that we fill the tank. when the gas IS filled, the nozzle IS fully inserted in the tank and will not automatically shut-off spilling gas everywhere until I manually stop the nozzle.
Passenger side wiper does not work
Drivers side rear door won’t lock or unlock with remote or by buttons in the car. It has to be done by hand.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. door locks in operable, neither fob nor button works, keyfob locks but not unlock vehicle not diagnosed neither dealer nor manufacturer contacted while attempting to unlock the vehicle, the keyfob failed. The contact stated that the keyfob will lock the vehicle however, has failed in every attempt to unlock the vehicle. Additionally, the internal lock/unlock buttons were also inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. Ah
Refueling spillage dodge nitro r/t when fueling the vehicle, fuel overflows up thru the filler neck and onto the person who IS refueling the SUV, thus causing it to spill over the paint of the car with approximately 30 - 50OZ of gas. unfortunately this occurs about 70% of the time the nitro IS fueled up. this IS very similar to a recall I had on my 2005 dodge durango. below are the issues noted by other dodge nitro owners on the nitro forums website. https://www.nitroforumz.com/threads/gas-overflow-fixed.700/page-6#post-159638 https://www.nitroforumz.com/threads/x46-warranty-fuel-spit-back-during-refueling.38708/
Wiper fluid shoots out the windshield wipers turn on the alarm goes off and car shuts off does all this at once.
Takata recall the radio cigarette port and wiper motor stopped working
Horn honks whenever it wants. ABS, esp/bas, traction control, and check engine light come on. ABS esp/bas and traction control lights were intermittent but now are consistent. Engine code comes and goes and says it cant communicate with tipm. Occasionally when parking and pulling out of a parking spot it feels like there IS no power steering/ runs rough while turning sharply but there IS no leak in power steering and it IS an intermittent problem.
Horn goes off on it own, even while driving. Starts won't start, battery IS not dead. Doors lock and unlock on their own. Passenger door controls the drive setting for locking and unlocking car, shutting radio off. The drive door will lock and not let you out, even trying to pull it up manual and it won't let you. Have to use key in door to unlock and quickly open before it locks again. In an accident this could be a big problem.
Locks quit working the fob will only unlock the drivers side door. All other doors have to be done manually and I can't open the back hatch because there IS no place to put in a key and unlock it.
Airbag light came on and won't go off and vehicle was not in an accident to cause this occurance! My son and fianc were just n a horrific accident in my fianc's chevy avalanche that caused the truck to roll and our friend, passenger in the vehicle, to ben killed. Now my special needs 10year old won't get in this new car because baby he's afraid since the airbag light IS on it will cause us to get into a vehicle. I need a solid resolution to this asap! I just finally got him to ride in a vehicle again!
Horn honks randomly. sometimes blaring, when I press it doesn't work. It happens when I am driving and when the car IS sitting. I found several people complaining about the same problem from chrysler with the totally integrated power modules (tipms).
So why driving this 07 nitro imeditaly you get a chime from the airbag light it very scary knowing that you get in accident and loose your life thinking air bags wont deploy due to the airbag light never going away and when it does not long and it right back oni feel this be a recall only because this IS a serious issue with any vehicle out in the world
Windshield wipers went out unexpectedly, cv axel boot tore, transmission shifts hard
All the electrical componer IS not working in the dash all the light IS on say IS not bus
The malfunction light esp/bas, esp/tcs, ABS, and airbag warning lights illuminate (no flashing) with loss of cruise control function intermittently, but notable vehicle malfunctioning occurs when all lights turn off! With no warning malfunction lights, the engine misfires at speeds greater than 55mph, breaks lock up when attempting to break at any speed (even coasting w/dry road conditions, and there will be complete loss of cruise control FX. When the lights turn back on, the vehicle functions properly w/no misfiring or breaking issues. Whhen the problem first started, cruise control would work at this time also, until that function completely stopped working after a few instances as stated. In addition, the horn stopped sounding, radio randomly turns on when car door IS opened W/3 button key fob (no engine starter), radio/disc player freezes intermittently with loss of function/ability to change anything besides turning on or off. Break illumination light intermittently turns on, then will turn off (no e break being activated). When warning lights are on, no car dealership or service IS able to obtain codes and adamantly state this IS not okay/normal for any vehicle to be having these serious issues w/no warning lights illuminating and for vehicle to improve when warning lights turn on. More so, that the systems large amount of erratic intermittent malfunctioning IS a very serious safety hazard!! Currently no recalls for vin # but 2007 nitros have recalls-my vehicle IS experiencing similar safety issues with an emergent need to report immediately to nhtsa. I will resume operating vehicle regularly when responsibility IS taken, admittance to there being problems of no fault of my own (owner 2009 approx 2000 miles at purchase w/all proper maintenance performed to date). Eagerly awaiting nhtsa's reply in order to properly document and correct this safety issue.
Wipers will not spray fluid.
Car cut off driving down the street taking my kid to school. Had it towed to find out its a short in the tipm (total integrated power module) which IS basically the brains of the car. All its functions run this this overly poorly thought out computer. Repairs will run about 1,200. The recalls for this petition has been declined. Real classy dodge. I refuse to patronize this business anymore.
My low beams stopped working, it IS not the bulbs. High beams work and so do the fog lights, just not the low beams. Very dangerous situation at night.
Failure of drive train and transmission at 94,000 miles. authorized dodge dealer shop IS saying $13,000 to fix.
My nitro has engine light on , my tire sensor shows that I don't have any tire on the right side of the car , airbag light on . very scary to drive my vehicle with the airbag light on . this car has been giving me problems since day one. window panel don't work , plastic parts inside car break . air conditioner and heater don't work . car turns off by itself . Read thousands of complaint online about this car and nothing has been done . 2007 nitro should be band it's a very dangerous vehicle .
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4X4. While driving on a rainy day at 55 mph, the windshield wipers failed to work and made it very difficult to see the road. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted nor made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Takata recall there are a lot of problems with the tipm with wiper and there stuff going wrong from C7 area of the tipm on 07 dodge nitro slt
Takata recall - the nitro was in motion when the airbag light came on and when the white plastic strip came sticking out of my steering wheel column. before the white plastic strip came sticking out behind the steering wheel, it sounded like something was rubbing or grinding every time I would turn the steering wheel. the ebs/bas light and the slippery when wet light also came on. now the nitro was stationary when it won't start and it will click one time along with the dash board lights coming on and the windshield wipers will turn on automatically. could this be an electrical problem or something to do with the airbag?
TL* the contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro 4X4. The contact stated that all of the doors failed to properly lock and unlock without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. udated 10/26/16*lj the consumer stated doors will lock manually, but not able to lock the rear hatch. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is den
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. Odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. Dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) IS lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal IS restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. Odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. This investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.
