This condition may cause inadequate sealing and loss of engine oil, possibly resulting in a fire.
Remedy
Honeywell will replace the affected oil filters free of charge. the recall began during november 2007. owners can contact fram customer service toll-free at 1-800-890-2075.
Unanticipated heat in the transmission can force the transmission fluid out of the vent tube.
Risk and remedy
Risk
The vented transmission fluid can catch fire if exposedto a source of ignition.
Remedy
Install a longer transmission vent hose routed to the left side of the engine compartment of the vehicle.

As I watched the news about the firestone tire failures I couldn't help wondering if the problem isn't more widespread in the industry. A few years ago I owned a GMC pickup with uniroyal tires. The tread separated on one tire in much the same way as the firestones. It did $2600 damage to the fender. My insurance company paid for the repair and tried to collect from uniroyal. Uniroyal took the tire and then said the damage was from under or overinflation. That wasn't true because I always checked pressures carefully, but it was my word against theirs. I had to replace the other three tires when they showed the first signs of tread separation. I heard stories at the body shop about other owners having similar problems, including serious accidents.( dot number: tire size: 245/75r16e )
