  Risk

  If the clutch cannot be disengaged it can result in a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

  Remedy

  Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will install a new secondary clutch actuator piston assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 5, 2018. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0173.

  Purchased my 3RD H-D (last 17 yrs) on may 2018, went big... 2018 cvo road glide (117 M8 fltrxse), heard all the chatter but bought it anyway. 3100 miles later, sumped on a 400 mile road trip, one qt low, burning odor, extreme heat, loss of power, 100 miles on 6 gallon tank of fuel... Local dealer…

  Purchased my 3RD H-D (last 17 yrs) on may 2018, went big... 2018 cvo road glide (117 M8 fltrxse), heard all the chatter but bought it anyway. 3100 miles later, sumped on a 400 mile road trip, one qt low, burning odor, extreme heat, loss of power, 100 miles on 6 gallon tank of fuel... Local dealer picked up bike at hotel, 2 days on phone & emails with support techs, conclusion... Voided powertrain warranty due to unapproved tuning. Heard all the horror stories... But we've been tuning & altering for years, just an excuse to move on from the issues. This bike IS currently at "gmr performance" in fort worth texas, loose piston jet oilers, bad oil pump, sticking crank and the hits keep coming... • 10244929SERVICE BULLETIN M1611: MILWAUKEE-EIGHT TRANSMISSION SHIFT DRUM UPDATE. PURPOSE: This bulletin informs dealers of a transmission shift drum running change to all variants of the Milwaukee-Eight powertrain. Starting on October 4, 2023 all Milwaukee-Eight CVO, Police, Softail, Touring and Trike models will be assembled using a common shift drum. The new shift drum (Part No. 33900265) is replacing the old shift drum (Part No. 33900172). The new shift drum was developed to include the "D" shaft on the end to interface with the Gear Position Sensor on 2023 CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE) and Road Glide (FLTRXSE). For all other Milwaukee-Eight models, the bearing door has been modified by adding a pocket to accept the "D" shaft of the new shift drum.

PURPOSE: This bulletin informs dealers that there is a running change for the oil pan fastener on all Milwaukee-Eight powered Softail and Touring models. As of Monday July 31, 2023, Powertrain Operations (PTO) in Menomonee Falls, WI is building all Milwaukee-Eight Softail and Touring powertrain models with new oil pan fasteners (Part No. 12600369). The old fasteners (Part No. 4741A) will still remain available for dealer purchase. The oil pans for the Softail and Touring models were updated to accept the new fastener geometry. Their Part Numbers have been superseded to (-A). Touring will be (Part No. 24400180A) and Softail will be (Part No. 24400208A). The new fastener will not fit with an old oil pan but the old hardware will still be available for dealer purchase. The old fastener CAN be used with a new (-A) oil pans. The fastener torque has not been changed.

Harley-Davidson motorcycles are designed, manufactured and tested to be operated with both of the riders hands on the handlebar. If you or a customer are experiencing a handling concern, refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING, HANDLING, IRREGULARITIES found in the MAINTAINANCE chapter of the appropriate service manual. The service manual process is not intended to validate factory settings, but rather to be used if a concern is presented. Through extensive testing, Harley-Davidson has developed the service manual specification and adjustment procedure as the optimum steering head bearing adjustment and verification method to achieve the desired handling characteristics across all speeds and conditions. Addressing a perceived feel of low speed wobble, oscillation or free play by adjusting the steering head bearings beyond the service manual specification may have an adverse effect on motorcycle stability.

The increased media supports the higher oil flow rate of MKE-8 engines. Fitment, clearance and performance testing has only been performed on MKE-8 vehicles. All Twin Cam vehicles continue to use the current oil filter.

This system offers convenient monitoring of air pressure within each tire, and alerts the rider if tire pressures fall below specification. Both dealers and customers have raised questions regarding TPMS and how the system works. The intention of this bulletin is to answer some questions, and improve the general knowledge of: Functioning tire pressure sensors & Installation practices. All testing of the TPMS is done by using the TPMS diagnostics and diagnostic tips in the service manual or its supplement of that year and model vehicle or using DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II (PART NUMBER: HD-48650).

This bulletin informs dealers that the 2019 Touring CVO Smoked Satin Chrome exhaust shield finish changed from the 2018 finish during the model year change from a satin finish to a gloss finish. Harley-Davidson has created new part numbers for 2020 Smoked Satin exhaust shields. These new parts will also become the service parts for 2018 Smoked Satin Chrome exhaust shields and will exhibit the satin finish. The previous part numbers used in 2018 will continue to be produced with a glossy appearance and will be the service part for 2019 vehicles.

Purpose: 2017 - 2019 model motorcycles equipped with a Milwaukee-Eight? engine can experience a condition known as sumping during extended periods at high rpm or under heavy engine load. Sumping is when an excessive amount of oil is suspended in the engine crankcase and the flywheel must travel through the oil, resulting in loss of power or a high degree of engine braking and potential engine component damage with extended use under these conditions. This bulletin provides the diagnostic procedure for determining if sumping is occurring.

Purpose: During recent dealer visits to observe steering head bearing adjustment process, Harley-Davidson staff observed that some dealers are not correctly following the service manual steering head bearing adjustment process. Issue: Steering head bearings on 2014 and later Touring, CVO Touring and Police Touring motorcycles which may not have been adjusted correctly using the service manual procedure at dealerships. Resolution: Never make adjustments by feel. Always follow the process in the appropriate service manual.
