Hino Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. (Hino) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 238, 258, 268, and 338 trucks manufactured January 5, 2015, to March 20, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the U-bolt that connects the suspension springs to the front axle may have been overtightened.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If the U-bolt was overtightened, the bolt may stretch resulting in it loosening or failing. Either result may cause a loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Remedy
Hino will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front axle U-bolts on the subject vehicles free of charge. The recall began on June 5, 2015. Owners may contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9300.

10184829DTC U02A2 DEF sensor communication error. On subject vehicles, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may illuminate with DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U02A2 stored in the engine ECU. This may be due to a malfunction of the DEF (Diese Exhaust Fluidf) tank sensor asslembly. Perform the diagnostic prolcedure for DT C U02A2 as outlined by the Workshop Manual (DEF SCR Section for Conventional Vehicles, Engine Troiubleshooting Section for COE Vehicles). If the diagnostic procedure leads to DEF tank sensor replacement, a more robust DEF tank sensor has been made available. 10170197This SKU is a DEF Injector. The customer communication requested return of unsold inventory to inspect the sealing. The injector sealing may have an issue which will cause a slow leak. A slow leak of the DEF Injector can lead to crystal formation which can cause aftertreatment related fault codes and ECU driven engine derating.

10119452TT-16-005 The purpose of the tech tip is to provide information for a low power concern possibly relating to the brake switch. Hino Trucks are equipped with two brake switches. First, a stop lamp switch that is designed to activate stop lamps on the truck. Second, a brake switch that is designed to send brake application input for modules to monitor brake activation. When monitoring DXII with the brake applied, the switches should both read ON and when the brake pedal is released, they should both read OFF. If the brake is not applied (typically when accelerating) and if one switch reads ON while the other reads OFF when the brake pedal is not applied, a brake switch correlation concern is the likely cause. Perform the following to identify the switch with this concern.
10119448TT-15-031 The tech tip below is to set or change road speed on a Hino Conventional or COE truck. The below procedure and screen shots were taken from a Conventional truck. Make sure to select 600 series for a Conventional and 300 series for a COE.
10119447TT-15-013 To provide a better determination of a DPF?s internal condition, a Special Service Tool (SST) has been developed. An explanation of SST-HDT-650590 and a brief DPF inspection follows below.
10118109TT-15-016 The purpose of this publication is to communicate the standard measuring positions on the Hino chassis. In some cases, the customer may report a visual chassis posture concern where the chassis appears to be leaning more towards the driver side or passenger side. The following publication can be referenced to obtain the manufacture?s measurement positions and specifications. Should the truck not meet the specifications, you should consider the following potential causes noted in the inspection guideline section below.
10118108TT-15-014 The transmission DTC?s P0974 and P0986, may be found on 12MY-15MY COE models. There could also be a complaint of low power and erratic shifting. These diagnostic codes may be set due to low voltage between the transmission case and the battery post.

10118072SB-15-045 Fiberglass repair methods have been made available to address hood crack concerns. In the event a subject vehicle experiences cracking of the hood near the hinges, this repair procedure should be used to address this condition. While these repair methods may be effective at repairing a hood that was damaged from impact, impact damage repair is not warrantable. Hoods should be inspected for impact damage prior to performing this procedure. 11MY-16MY Hino Conventional Trucks (238, 258, 268 or 338) equipped with a snow plow specification stationary grille.

10117685SB-15-031 Foreign debris in the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank may cause the SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) system to malfunction. This can result in DTC?s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) P20E8 or P20E9 - DEF Pressure Abnormality. An inlet strainer for the DEF tank has been made available to prevent foreign material from entering the DEF tank.
10117684SB-15-030 On subject vehicles, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) may illuminate with DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) U02A2 stored in the engine ECU. This may be due to a malfunction of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank sensor assembly. Perform the diagnostic procedure for DTC U02A2 as outlined by the Workshop Manual (DEF SCR System Section for Conventional Vehicles, Engine Troubleshooting Section for COE Vehicles). If the diagnostic procedure leads to DEF tank sensor replacement, a more robust DEF tank sensor has been made available.
10117680SB-15-026 A subject vehicle may exhibit an engine oil leak or engine coolant leaking externally from the engine head gasket sealing area on the exhaust manifold side of the engine. An improved head gasket has been made available as a service part and should be used if replacement of the head gasket is necessary. Improvement of the head gasket includes the addition of rubber seals around the engine oil and engine coolant port holes.

10117667SB-15-010 Some vehicles that operate in extreme cold weather climates may exhibit ice accumulation on the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) butterfly plate with a repeat P1604 DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the engine ECU. A heated EGR valve has been made available to prevent this occurrence.
10117649SA-14-026 The broken hood grille procedure (SB-14-020) has been revised to reuse the grille nuts (SZ17906009) if possible. There is a limited quantity of the nuts available and it has been confirmed that the nuts are reusable. The revised procedure has been posted on HinoNet. Please see the picture below on which area of the procedure has been updated.
