With less than 1000 miles on my 2004 honda rebel motorcycle the clutch went out while going between 45 and 55 mph on an open road. The motorcycle was running great when all of a sudden it started losing speed. There was no warning when the clutch went out.

2004 honda rebel motorcycle. Bought new in 2003 it IS a 2004 model. It has 1400 miles on it and the clutch IS slipping severely. I think honda should be held accountable for the replacement of these defective parts.the clutch assembly has to be replaced. *Tr

Bike will not shift properly, upshifting isn't the problem as much as trying to get the bike into neutral or first gear IS near impossible. makes road driving impossible. bought the bike used from a dealer, hasn't worked properly from day one. replaced clutch at 5,000 miles, thinking this was…
Bike will not shift properly, upshifting isn't the problem as much as trying to get the bike into neutral or first gear IS near impossible. makes road driving impossible. bought the bike used from a dealer, hasn't worked properly from day one. replaced clutch at 5,000 miles, thinking this was the problem just to find out, improper shifting mechanism was the cause. have bought new springs for the shifting mechanism, hopefully this fixes the problem, as to it seems the only alternative next to just scrapping a poorly designed bike. Reading similar cases online it IS under my best assumption that improper installation of this spring has led to poor operation. In my research of online service manuals, it has been confirmed that the spring not installed to specs. not so much backwards as upside down. Bike does not work. *tr

I have a 2004 honda 250cc rebel motorcycle. It has had some problems getting it into neutral or first gear since I bought it in 2004. Then I started having problems in 2008 shifting into lower gears while in traffic. This caused traffic tie-ups due to the lack of being able to properly start in traffic nearly causing an accident. This has happened more than once. I have taken it to a honda repair shop in may 2009 and they said that all parts are in spec. But admitted that they also had problems getting the bike in neutral and that it was hard to shift. They said that they could do nothing more for me. I have seen many complaints about this issue on the internet with only 500 to 8,000 miles on the odometer. Mine IS now having major slipping problems with only under 7,000 miles. While trying to accelerate, the clutch slips and I can not gain speed to keep up with traffic. It appears that I now have a bike that IS too dangerous to ride with no hope of anyone willing to fix it can you please investigate this problem and let me know what I can do? *Tr

I was driving my 2004 honda rebel down the highway when out of nowhere I was unable to accelerate. it would only go about 15 mph and I knew I had the dreaded 2004 clutch problem. I babied it to the nearest honda motorsport dealer and it currently sits in their service area. on the way there I was almost hit numerous times by other cars not to mention almost falling when the incident first occurred. they told me that I will probably need a new clutch. I replied "my bike only has 5000 miles! how could I need a new clutch already?" he said he wasn't sure and would let me know once they were sure what was wrong with it. I almost got hit by a few cars on the way to the dealer and I am hoping that this isn't going to cost me anything. *Tr

My 04 rebal 250, bought used with 1,500 miles on it has liked to slip from 2ND gear to first. I have just reached 8,000 miles on my bike and now the clutch had failed. I have been riding for years and have never seen a clutch fail like this in such a short time frame. that includes hard ridden and abused dirt bikes that I owned for years before ever replacing a clutch plate. I have taken the bike to the dealership a few times about the matter, they have given it an oil change twice -- I think just to get me to leave. an oil change does make it better but only for a week or so. *Tr

I purchased a used 2004 honda rebel motorcycle 2 years ago used. I have only added about 400 miles to it for a total of 1,700 miles. The clutch started slipping the other day and barely moves. This IS very premature for any vehicle.

I bought a 2004 honda rebel 250 new and at 500 miles the clutch began to slip. I returned the bike to the dealer and they agreed to replace the clutch, but said it was not normally covered under the warranty, but agreed to do it anyway. now at 5,000 miles the clutch has began to slip again. The dealer say's that they will not cover it under warranty. I find it pretty hard to believe that the clutch has naturally worn at only 4,500 miles later. a friend of mine bought a different model from honda at the same time and has twice the miles I have on his bike and has had no problems with anything. After doing some research on the web I have found several other people encountering the same problem I am having. There has to be a manufactures defect in the clutch assembly causing them to prematurely fail. *nm

Clutch started slipping in gear on acceleration and hills. Progressively getting worse over about a 3 week period. Clutch was not abused as most of the 5603 miles on the bike were freeway driving. Dealer says clutch needs to be replaced. *nm

2004 honda rebel I purchased the bike from a dealer that had accepted it on a trade-in. As soon as I tried driving the bike I realized the clutch was blown. It drove only in first gear, and with much effort I managed to put it in neutral a few times. Otherwise, it was impossible to shift gears. The mechanic who worked on it said that the clutch was severely overheated to the point of being warped. $400 (canadian $) to fix it. I'll try the fixed bike tomorrow - hopefully it'll be ok now! *Nm

I took it back to the honda dealership and sure enough, the clutch had already given out. the dealers IS in the process of calling honda corporate office to see if they should go ahead and fix it and have them pay for it rather than me. at the moment, I'm still waiting for the call from my honda dealership, and my honda rebel IS in the shop not being worked upon.*jb

Ever since I purchased the motorcycle, a 2004 honda rebel, there were a few problems with the shifting characteristics. first, while downshifting, excess force was sometimes required to shift to the next lower gear. Second, after pulling in the clutch lever, the motorcyle seemed to want to creep foward. third, diffuculty shifting to neutral while stopped. every one I asked said that this was normal for this particular bike. now, I find this hard to believe. it has been just slightly over one year and about 8000 miles since I purchased this motorcycle, and the clutch started to show signs of slipping. I did not have the time or the money to have the dealer replace the clutch, now that the motorcyle has supassed the one year warranty. after replacing the clutch with genuine honda parts, the clutch shifts smoother than it ever did. the old parts were discarder, since I did not want oily, useless parts in my home. this failure can not be attributed to the lack of maintainance, because the motorcycle has been professionaly, per maintainance contract with selling dealer.

Clutch premature wear problem with honda rebel 2004 motorcycle!.have a 2004 rebel with 1600 miles. I did the oil change at 600 miles and running once or twice in the whole winter, around 10 miles or less to recharge the battery. *Ak today, I took my rebel out for a ride since it's 70 degree plus, but I notice the problem right away. When I shift into 1ST gear, take my hand off the clutch without turn up the throttle, the rebel still running. Something isn't right, before when I shifted into first gear, did not crank up the throttle and release, the engine will shut off immediately. however when I shift to 2ND, 3RD, 4TH, the rebel IS running very slow, the engine noise IS louder and it cannot run over 30 mph, looks like the clutch IS getting loose or something. I try to adjust the clutch but the problem still existed.
