Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2007 Jeep Wrangler X Rhd 4X4. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler x rhd 4X4. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven to livonia chrysler jeep (30777 plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed replacement. Also, for the past two years, the steering wheel shook severely when the vehicle was driven above 50 mph. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
I took my jeep to the dealership to take a look at gas tank sensor, I heard that was a recall, everytime I fill my tank, the gas nozzle doesn't stop and you see gas spilling all over. The dealership said he fixes as its shown on their dignose. haven't drove since then, today I drove it and it had 1/4 gas in the tank, I stopped by the gastation to fill up the tank, found out that it doesn't allow any more gas in the tank and gas spilling all over again, the gas gauge IS working along with fuel warning signal, its so weird and unsafe.
In feb 2015 my 07 jeep wrangler started making odd noises and running poorly than IS stopped. My jeep had 69,500 miles on it and a service was done within 1,500 miles. It was towed to the service center- it did not have a drop of oil in it and the engine was blown. There was no indication of a oil leak anywhere! No warning lights came on either. Jeep refused to even listen or assist in any way. $6K later...... I have a new engine and check it every week! now when I park and get back in the jeep it wont start- wont even turn over. It will finally start after 4-5 turns of the key. Its not heat, not distance, nothing being left on, not consistent- there IS no rhyme or reason at all!! A man in a gas station heard me trying to start the jeep and came over and shared this- push on the shifter really hard and it will start- it did and has every time now. When I stop I just make sure I push on the shifter. There IS no recall and no service bulletin but IS normal in the 07 it appears.
Jeep death wobble breaking front control arm and track bar bracket causing loss of steering shooting the vehicle across 2 lanes road, thankfully no on coming traffic and was able to stop vehicle in grass prior to the ditch. Second episode of this, 1ST episode that caused bracket failure and the bracket was fixed, alignment and all front suspension components were checked, jeep continues to do death wobble and IS a hazard to drive. This incident happened at about 51 mph, previous incidents have happened with out equipment failure ranging from 45mph - 52mph. I am afraid that injuries will happen if chrysler does not address this matter as it IS well documented on the internet with 2007-2012 jeep wranglers and it being a manufacturer's flaw on these models.
There was not a fire but thought there was and 911 was called. I had the oil changed in march and again in july. In septermber there was a clicking noise coming from the engine and I pulled into a drive way and shut off the engine. I asked someone to look at it and when they tried to start the engine smoke came out of the vents and engine would not turn over. Turns out, that the jeep had no oil in it and the engine burned up. The repair for a new engine IS $5200. There were no warning lights at all. No "change oil notice", "low oil pressure" light, "overtemp" light, or "check engine" light. Had there been some kind of warning light before I ruined the engine it would not be so costly. *tr
While trying to put gas into my 2007 jeep jk wrangler unlimited, fuel started to pour out the underside. I took my vehicle to the mechanic and they informed me that a large crack was on the filler neck that IS attached to the fuel tank. They also informed me that due to the discoloration of the plastic inlet it has been leaking for a while. Upon removing the tank, they also discovered that the spring inside the nozzle IS highly defective. Apparently, the spring IS supposed to push back once the fuel tank IS full. as a jeep owner for years i?m extremely angry that an inexpensive part made poorly could of cost the life of my family, friends and anything within range if a fire erupted. chrysler should recall these defective tanks immediately. I can provide photos of the filler neck and nozzle. *tr
It's the 5TH time this has happened. while driving my jeep wrangler at more than 45 miles an hour the front end begins to shake uncontrollably. I begin to lose control. I have to apply brakes and nearly stop at highway speeds causing safety issues for other drivers. chrysler has admitted to the issue and has issued a service bulletin 19-002-12. this first happened when my jeep was under warranty and they fixed it. this IS a serious safety concern. *tt
I was driving on a 4 lane highway at 60mph when the car started vibrating so violently I thought I had lost a wheel. I could barely control the car and was surrounded by 18 wheelers. I was horrified. I pulled onto the shoulder and got out expecting to see a flat tire but everything looked fine. I got back in and drove down the road only to have it happen again when I went over 55mph. I called emergency service and had it towed to the dealership. they "fixed" it and charged me for the work done. but when I drove it again at 53mph when I hit a bump it started vibrating again. I now never drive over 50mph over the fear of it happening again. I looked it up on the internet and it IS called death wobble and jeep will not help us. I have not altered my vehicle at all. this IS a dangerous defect and needs a recall before someone dies. please do something before it IS too late. it IS like driving on the worst washboard road you ever saw at 60mph surrounded by traffic. it IS a recipe for disaster. the car shakes so violently that the wheels wobble. please look it up on the internet. a reporter in california did a story on it. please do a recall. I have been driving jeeps since 1986 and this IS the 4TH jeep I have owned. this has never happened to me before. my last jeep had 131,000 miles on it and I had no problems. jeep has obviously changed the design or IS using cheaper parts. this IS not good for the jeep brand. *tr
While driving on the roadway and I hit a bump the steering wheel and tires begin violently shaking. I have researched this for over a year and have replaced several things in my front end without luck. My jeep was completely stock prior to this incident. This happens more often during the winter as I have put up with this for the second winter now. I have taken the jeep to 2 dealerships in my area and they both told me they have never heard of the problem. As everyone knows that has experienced the "death wobble" before it IS extremely common and jeep wont admit to the problem. This IS a huge problem and will injure someone sooner or later. Sadly my fellow jeep owners and i, love our jeeps and just continue to put up with the problem. Please help us push jeep into fixing our jeeps and redesigning future jeeps. *Tr
Shortly after purchasing this vehicle I had problems with the rear window washer leaking inside the vehicle. I needed a new complete assembly. So far I haven't had another problem with this unit. *kb
Had my jeep wrangler in for problems with the brakes chugging (which was mentioned when the vehicle was still under warranty, but couldn't duplicate). They explained the service attendant could not find anything, however they didn't test drive it. I then insisted and they found a rotor was bad. Before it was taken in to the garage I checked the brake fluid and it was down to the minimum line. The brakes had continued to get spongy and not responding. The repairs to this was $312.00! I was told by the dealership, that chrysler has used thin metal on the rotors causing these problems. *kb
My 2007 jeep was in the shop for various repairs, however this one took the cake! I arrived home from work (6 miles away) when I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. I found it was overheating, no indicator light to warn me, temperature gauge was at normal but the smell of anti-freeze was present. Towed it to the dealer and found the heater hose assembly, to be melted through from the "bad" design, of having it too close to the engine. Also it appeared to have two slices in the hoses , where the clamps were too close to the bend in the hoses. it cost me over $100.00 to have it fixed. *kb
TL* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler x rhd 4X4. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The current mileage was approximately 26,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 25,500.
Fuel spills out of the spout when I fill up my 2007 jeep wrangler. *tr
While driving vehicle and getting ready to park, gear shift locked. able to shift to park but instrument panel continues to show drive. unable to start vehicle- stuck on drive. *tr
While fueling my 2007 jeep wrangler when the pump clicks off gas pours out of my tank and has splashed all over me several times. This IS very dangerous and happens every time I get gas. the car and myself can catch fire. this cannot wait until a tragedy occurs. *Tr
I hit a bump and my jeep started shaking like a dog that IS all wet. the only way to stop it was to slow down almost to a complete stop. Then it IS fine for a while. this IS not safe at all. called the dealership and they said that there was a recall on this problem, but my jeep was not one of them, so I will have to pay for this out of my own pocket. reading so other post I am not the only one that has this problem. has anybody figured out what will fix this???? *Tr
Jk/ gas tank overflows/will not shut off. on more then 1 occasion the gas tank on my 2007 jk jeep wrangler has failed to shut off when filling up and spills all over the rear of the jeep and the ground. 2 jeep dealers in fairfax, va have told me that I needed a new tank. I have an extended warranty with intercontinental warranty service (iws) and they refuse to authorize the work. I am in the process of canceling the warranty and filing a complaint against them. a of right now I still need a gas tank but cannot find one online, seems only dealers have them right now for 2007-2010 model years. also the soft top leaks very bad at the top of the door/roof pillars both sides when it rains. Also have had this in to the same 2 jeep dealers and both say I need a to as it IS a design flaw. both has leak specialists look at it and replace header and door seals but still leaks just as bad. as a life long jeep owner I am completely fed up with the jeep brand. A little searching on the internet tells me that these 2 issues are well known but that jeep IS refusing to address them so people like me have to pay more money out of pocket. These 2 issues are clearly safety related, gas spilling out and hitting a hot exhaust IS a major problem, the same with water getting into the electrical system. *tr
2007 jeep wrangler jk unlimited, every time you put fuel in the tank it belches about a quarter gallon of fuel back out the spout and all over the vehicle and person filling the vehicle. No matter how you try to fill it does it every time. This IS a common problem with all wranglers 2007-2010. Jeep jk forum has hundreds of hits with complaints on this problem. Consequences are fuel on the ground, vehicle and person will lead to a fire and injury. Jeep IS aware of this but does nothing with a recall tanks need to be replaced. I have entered today date but this IS occurring year round. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. The contact stated the vehicle shifted out of first gear and third gear without warning while driving approximately 25 mph. The vehicle was a manual transmission. The contact had to hold the gear shift in place in order to keep it from shifting from one gear to another on its own. The contact stated the failure only occurred during inclement weather. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle also needed a new transmission. the failure mileage was 50 and the current mileage was 48000.
2007 jeep wrangler gas overflow ever time I fill up with gas.. Gas comes spilling out all over me,my jeep and worst of all over the ground. I hear about all kinds of other jeep owners with the same problem. Why has there not been a recall on this with gas going all over the ground and on people how safe IS that . *Tr
Water leak: I purchased a 2007 jeep wrangler x unlimited on 06-26-10. on 06-28-10 I was (out of town of vacation) driving in a rain storm when I noticed to carpeting in the back passenger floor board was wet. I have been able to determine that the water IS leaking from the top of the vehicle running down the frame between the front and back doors onto the floor board. upon returning home from vacation I contacted number 1 auto from where I had purchased the vehicle. I advised the salesman of the wet carpet and a non-functioning cd player. at that time he said they would fix it I just needed to make an appointment with the mechanic. I have had the jeep back 3 times now for continue water in the rear floor boards of the jeep after being in rain. last nigh (08-03-10)t, after yet another rain storm, I removed 2 quarts of water from the rear driverside and passenger side floor boards. Today (08-04-10) I contacted the chrysler corporation who said, "it's out of warranty, it's up to you as to how you want to perceive it." I advised the customer service representative that I have researched this problem and have found that there has been a multitude of the same complaints regarding the 2007 model jeep wrangler both hard and soft tops and there are numerous occasions posted where chrysler had offered to buy the jeep back or replace with a different chrysler vehicle as long as it was not another jeep wrangler. the customer service representative replied, "i've never heard of such a problem." *tr
Vehicle loses power to accelerator at random, unpredictable times (could be at a stop sign, could be while traveling on a highway, and does not matter if car IS hot or cold). Warning light (lightning bolt) flashes on the dashboard, and accelerator IS sluggish to respond or unresponsive altogether. I have nearly been in two accidents while pulling into traffic because cars starts to go, but then loses power and the accelerator takes about 3-4 seconds to recognize I am stepping on it. I have had it into chrysler dealership three times now, and they are unable to diagnose the issue. First time the accelerator pedal assembly was replaced. The second time, the pcm module (drivetrain computer/module) was replaced in its entirety. Problem started occurring around 30,000 miles, and has continued since (now at 41,500). Has nearly caused me to be in two bad accidents, which caused other cars to swerve/skid around me because I was stopped broadside in roadway. They would not acknowledge problem until they made me drive them around our city, and prove to them what happens. Luckily it happened while he was in the car with me, but the service techs are unable to diagnose the problem and continue to work with chrysler engineers to no avail. other instances include being stopped at a red light on a hill, and not being able to go forward in time, and nearly drifting backwards into vehicles behind me. This requires use of heavy foot on gas and emergency brake. additionally, vehicle IS a 6 speed manual, and sometimes 'pops' out of first gear while starting from a stop position. This issue has happened for the last 5,000 miles approximately but IS becoming more common (nearly daily). I believe they will be able to diagnose this issue and correct it (common problem according to my internet research), however it does not appear they have a handle on the first issue. I have been told to leave my vehicle at the dealership until they can diagnose and fix the problem, it's not safe. *Tr

Gas gushes out when filling up gas tank even though the safety cutoff on the pump has engaged. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is den
In its July 29, 2011 response to ODI's May 27, 2011 information request letter, Chrysler provided 153 MY 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 ODI Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (ABL) due to a faulty clockspring (CS) wiring circuit. The right hand drive (RHD) vehicles, which were first produced in MY 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).The MY2007 left hand drive (LHD) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 LHD reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the MY 2008 LHD vehicles.ODI did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the CS circuit failure.Since May 27, 2011, ODI has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing. In addition, and for comparative purposes, Chrysler provided another 42 owner reports it received on the MY2006 and MY2009-2010 Wrangler vehicles; these populations showed a lower incident rate than the subject vehicles, especially in comparison to the RHD subject vehicles. Chrysler's investigation showed that the higher rate of RHD Wrangler CS failures were due to a more severe duty cycle for these vehicles which are primarily used by US Postal workers/mail carriers delivering mail in rural regions.Chrysler concluded the unique vehicle usage, much of which occurs with the driver's window open and under dusty environmental conditions, is the cause of premature CS failure.Chrysler's analysis also indicated that the somewhat elevated MY2007 LHD rate, which showed a declining failure trend, was the result of start-up production/assembly issues that occurred with the introduction of a new design CS.The new design CS incorporated both dual airbag inflator circuitry and a steering wheel angle sensor (for the electronic stability control system). On November 1, 2011, Chrysler submitted a defect notice indicating it will conduct a recall of all MY 2008-2012 RHD Wrangler vehicles (11V528).The estimated 5,334 RHD Wrangler vehicles include the 2,297 MY 2008 RHD Wrangler vehicles, which were the subject of this investigation, plus an additional 3,037 MY 2009-2012 RHD Wrangler vehicles that Chrysler determined potentially have a similar CS concern as the MY 2008 RHD vehicles.Chrysler intends to replace the existing CS with a yet-to-be-produced improved CS assembly, or an improved steering housing assembly that is less susceptible to dusty environments.Owner notice is scheduled to begin in November, 2011.Chrysler also informed ODI that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for MY2007 LHD Wrangler which will extend the CS warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles.Accordingly the investigation is closed.
ODI found the rate of warranty claims related to fuel spit back on the subject vehicles is lower than other vehicles previously recalled to correct defects related to fuel spit back.Although the rate of complaints reported to the agency on the subject vehicles is higher than or similar to the rates experienced in previous investigations where safety recalls were conducted, ODI suspects that the NHTSA safety complaints submitted by subject vehicles owners may have been influenced by internet related publicity both before and during this investigation.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that no safety-related defect exists. The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right to take future action if warranted by the circumstances.See attached report for additional information. In addition, Chrysler is initiating a lifetime warranty program, at no cost to the consumer, to address the fuel spit back problem in approximately 135,000 model year 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler vehicles built from March 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008.Chrysler will notify all affected vehicle owners of this action.Consumers should refer to the warranty and service bulletins and sample owner notification letter available in the investigative file. The vehicle build date can be found on the certification label located on the driver door or door jamb.
The defective tow bar assemblies involved in this recall were supplied to chrysler for use on some of its jeep wrangler vehicles.the purpose of this investigation was to identify any additional purchasers of identical or substantially similar defective assemblies and to initiate additional defect reporting and safety recalls as necessary.to accomplish this rmd contacted the supplier of the assemblies, valley towing products, and confirmed no other such assemblies were distributed.this eq IS therefore closed.
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. Odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. Dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) IS lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal IS restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. Odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. This investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.
