Hooked camper up to our tow vehicle. Went inside to prepare to leave our storage. Husband turned the propane on and I pressed Further start button on the refrigerator once the pilot light ignited. After less than one minute an error message began beeping on the digital LCD pad to alert that there was a disconnect from the power source being used. Five seconds later it stopped, and the LCD went blank. I shouted to my husband to check the propane because the refrigerator had stopped and he confirmed that it was still running. I hit the start button again several times and nothing occurred. As I turned to go out the door I noticed a faint, small plume of smoke. My husband rushed in and did confirm a slight ozone smell before turning back outside to note smoke from the top vent where the refrigerator lies. He immediately shut the propane off and returned to remove the upper vent while I grabbed the fire extinguisher. As I returned, I immediately noticed flames and smoke from the lower vent. My husband quickly removed that vent cover and extinguish the fire with the extinguisher. Once out, he returned inside to turn off the circuit breakers, followed by unplugging the refrigerator cord from the wall, which is accessible through the lower vent. We thoroughly inspected the entire slide to be assured the fire was completely extinguished. I made a claim to Progressive the next day. We arranged to have a progressive inspector look at the camper at our local RV service center Harler Auto and Glen’s RV service in Romeo Michigan. The assigned inspector, Andy M made his assessment on Friday, XXX and called us the same afternoon to inform us that based on his inspection, it was determined that the damages were due to and confined to a mechanical/electrical failure, and not the result of a sudden, direct, and accidental loss. He was confident that this was due to a manufacturing defect and informed me that there were multiple known recalls on this particular product.

This for a fifth wheel. I had a fire sparked from the 120V connection in my camper. Luckily I was at my campsite and it happened during the day, and I was able to extinguish the fire before it got worse. I paid for the repair and I am still waiting for reimbursement from manufacturer. I also stated to them that I wanted my unit inspected because of the safety concerns. The camper has a recall that has to do with wiring that I was told I need it to take care of myself by contacting a servicing dealer. I have tried reaching out to two dealers with no response. Due to the nature of the recall and the fire I already had, it is my opinion that Keystone isn’t taking this matter serious. This fire could have caused severed bodily harm if not acted upon promptly. Safety recall 21V-368; Safety advisory 21-409; June 18, 2021.

Safety Recall: US: 21V-368 FIRE HAZARD 120VAC wiring connectors for the slide room circuit that can get wet and stay wet for extended periods of time due to the way they are mounted. Under certain conditions if the 120VAC connections are wet for an extended period of time it can lead to an increased risk of fire and/or damage to personal property. I have been trying to get this recall rectified and Keystone and its dealers will not take my unit in. I purchased the RV in IOWA and now I'm working in California. They say they cant make their dealers take it in, no dealer will take the unit unless it was purchased from them. They have left me no recourse. Along with a plethora of other electrical issues.

- 10177433Dexter and General Motors have identified a compatibility issue between the GM Integrated Trailer Brake Controller used in newer GM models and various Electric/Hydraulic Actuators, including the Dexter DX Series. This issue was discovered as the newest GM Integrated Trailer Brake Controller entered the market. This compatibility issue can occur during startup as the driver applies the brake for the first time. The driver will receive an in-dash notification of a brake controller fault when applying the brake. When seeing the notification, the driver should not tow the unit GM released service bulletin DTC Cl 114, which outlines the issue in greater detail, including the proper use of a trailer mounted brake adapter to resolve the issue. This is a non-moving event as the vehicle requires the brake to be depressed to move the vehicle out of Park. This condition creates a fault in the GM Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, resulting in no trailer brakes. If no in-dash notification is received, the combination is compatible. As part of the solution recommended by General Motors, Dexter part number K58-036-00 (E/H Compatibility Adapter) has been developed by Dexter Engineering and tested by both Dexter and GM Engineering. The Dexter E/H Compatibility Adapter will be available July 2020.The adapter was not available prior to release of the GM DTC Cl 114. Although GM service bulletin DTC C1114 identifies Dexter Actuator serial numbers with prefixes TCV, TCB and CBH; Dexter recommends reviewing all Electric/Hydraulic actuators for proper function prior to towing, regardless of the serial number, make or model. Please contact Dexter or your local GM dealer for further information.
