Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2022-2024 EV6 and 2024 EV9 vehicles. The high voltage battery cells may contain misaligned electrodes, which can lead to a fire while parked or driving.

A fire increases the risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and limit their charge to a maximum of 80% until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery system assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 7, 2026. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC375. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning July 17, 2026.

Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the ICCU software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 13, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC327. This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 24V-200. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V-200 will need to have the new remedy completed.

Kia Motor America (Kia) is recalling certain 2022 EV6 vehicles. A software error in the Shifter Control Unit (SCU) may disengage the parking mechanism, which can allow the vehicle to rollaway.

Vehicle rollaway can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy
Drivers are recommended to park their vehicles on level ground and avoid parking on a slope/inclined surface whenever possible until the remedy has been performed. Dealers will update the Shifter Control Unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 25, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the vehicle lost drive power while I was operating it. At the same time, steering became extremely difficult and the brakes required extraordinary physical force to apply. I had to use all of my strength to safely bring the vehicle to a stop. At that point we were stranded in the #2 lane of travel. This was not a minor inconvenience or an isolated warning light; it was a serious roadway safety event. Had my wife been driving, I do not believe she would have had the physical ability to safely control and stop the vehicle under those conditions.

Component that failed: Vehicle headlight/running light has water penetration and the running lights do not stay on. Additionally there is yellowing of the LED running lights, which is a known defect in the Kia EV6. Safety issue: Running lights reduced night time illumination and made it more difficult to see road. Running lights yellowing are a sign of premature failure. Dealer inspection: Dealer identified problem during a state inspection (light turned off after a few seconds). Vehicle headlights have three issues: 1. Yellowing of LED running lights, 2. Failure of seals allowing water into the headlight unit, 3. Malfunction of the running lights (turns on briefly and then goes out) Manufacturer included replaceable desiccant packets in the headlight, which indicates they understood the potential for water penetration/condensation.

The ICCU, or integrated charge control unit, continually fails on this car. When it fails, the 12V battery rapidly drains and the car goes into turtle mode (25mph max) until the 12 battery drains completely. This has happened 4 times on this car, twice since I purchased it 'certified pre-owned" from a Kia dealership in February 2026. Luckily for me the two times it has failed on me, I was in town and close to home. I purchased this car to use for road trips, and out in remote areas of wilderness that do not have cell reception. It is my opinion that the lack of a permanent fix from Kia is a safety issue, as this problem can strand a driver like myself in the middle of nowhere without cell service or any way to get back. Kia has increased warranty coverage on this component, but has not rolled out a permanent fix. My car has been sitting at a dealership service department for 4 weeks now, waiting for Kia to approve the warranty work. This is a known issue, Kia has increased warranty coverage on this part, but they are refusing to allow the dealership to perform the work to fix it.

I began to drive. The dashboard display read "Check low voltage supply" or something like that and on the opposite side of the display there was a small image that looks like a 12V battery. A moment later the dashboard display changed to read "DO NOT DRIVE." The car was towed to a dealer who reported a "failed ICCU and High Voltage Fuse." The vehicle was towed to a dealership where it is being repaired under warranty. The same parts were replaced on December 26, 2024, that time because the electric vehicle would no longer accept a charge from a 240VAC source, although it continued accept a charge from a high voltage DC source. At that time there was also a software update that was said to correct the defect.

Vehicle Safety Complaint My Kia experienced an ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure and was at the dealership for approximately two months while awaiting repairs. The ICCU and related components were replaced, and I was told the vehicle had been repaired. However, immediately after I received the vehicle back, the “Check Electric Vehicle System” warning illuminated again. Since that time, the vehicle has continued to experience serious electrical issues. The vehicle has unexpectedly shut off while stopped at red lights and has failed to restart on multiple occasions, leaving me stranded. This creates a significant safety hazard because the vehicle can lose the ability to move while in traffic, placing me and other motorists at risk. I have returned the vehicle to the dealership twice since the ICCU replacement, but the problem has not been resolved. The dealership has been unable to identify or permanently repair the defect. I have been without my vehicle for nearly three months this calendar year due to this issue. More importantly, I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle because I cannot trust that it will remain operational in traffic. I am submitting this complaint because I believe this represents a serious safety defect involving the vehicle’s electrical system and propulsion system. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue to determine whether other Kia owners are experiencing similar failures and whether additional action is warranted to protect consumers.

The front lower air dam and felt underguard detached while driving at highway speed on an interstate. The panel dropped and dragged on the pavement. I secured it with duct tape and zip ties at the roadside in order to drive home. There was no collision and no impact with road debris. The bumper fascia directly above the panel is undamaged, with no deformation and no paint transfer, which is not consistent with an impact and is consistent with failure of the panel's mounting fasteners. The panel shows longitudinal drag scoring on the underside and outward flex-fracture of the mounting clips. The right side detached first and the left side remained held by a single screw. The component is available for inspection on request. There were no warning lamps or messages before the failure. I brought the vehicle to a Kia dealer in [XXX] on XXX, at approximately 40,000 miles and within the 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty. The dealer's technician identified multiple fractured mounting clips, of which only two remain intact. The dealer declined to submit a warranty claim, citing evidence of impact, and reattached the panel using added screws. The fractured clips were not replaced. The dealer's paperwork records the vehicle as repaired, but the technician verbally advised me to drive carefully because the underlying fastener failure was not corrected and the panel is not held by its designed fasteners. I opened a case with the manufacturer's consumer assistance center on June 9, 2026 (case number XXX) and submitted photographs as requested. I have received no substantive response in six weeks. A body panel that detaches at highway speed and drags on the roadway is a hazard to the vehicle behind it and to my control of the vehicle. 1. Severe Safety Concerns (Battery Thermal Risk & Component Interdependency) The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater in my vehicle has failed. This component failure has completely disabled my vehicle’s air conditioning (AC) system. In the Kia EV6 architecture, the AC compressor loop is not merely a cabin comfort feature; it is intrinsically linked to the vehicle's thermal management system responsible for cooling the high-voltage traction battery pack. California temperatures are projected to hit 110°F immediately. Without a functioning AC system, the vehicle cannot execute critical battery cooling procedures. Yesterday, when plugging the vehicle into a charger, the high-voltage battery became alarmingly hot. Forcing a lithium-ion battery pack to accept high-current DC fast charging without operational coolant loop heat rejection poses an immediate, catastrophic risk of thermal runaway and vehicle fire. I am terrified to operate, park, or charge this vehicle in upcoming extreme summer conditions. 2. Predatory Maintenance Plan Tie-In Offer Yesterday, the dealership called and acknowledged the issue. They offered to cover 70% of the diagnostic and repair labor costs under corporate goodwill, as I am technically out of the standard warranty period. However, they applied an unfair and coercive condition: I am only eligible for this safety assistance if I purchase a mandatory 2-year maintenance contract costing $120 per month (totaling $2,880 over 24 months). Because the EV6 is a fully electric vehicle, its routine maintenance profile is virtually nonexistent. The dealership explicitly stated that this contract would exclusively cover tire rotations. Charging nearly $3,000 for tire rotations as a gatekeeping mechanism to fix a dangerous battery cooling defect is highly exploitative. The cost of this forced maintenance plan essentially equals or exceeds paying for the entire repair out-of-pocket, rendering the "70% goodwill coverage" an empty gesture.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that while driving approximately 6-7 MPH in the left-turn lane, the vehicle made an abnormal popping sound and stalled. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure. The ICCU was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the messages "Check ABS", "Check ESC", "Check Electronic Parking Brake" and "Pull Over Safely" were displayed, and alarms sounded on several occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted several times, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

The next morning, the dedicated breaker to the EVSE was tripped, and the EVSE was damaged and unusable upon resetting the breaker. The car had charged approximately 20% before cutting off. A new EVSE was ordered and arrived by that night, however the car would not accept a charge, and displayed a "charging failure" message, despite the new EVSE working on two other electric vehicles. Additionally, the vehicle to load (V2L) functionality was compromised, and the vehicle displayed an error message when attempting to use the V2L. The vehicle was taken into Kia service center located in Mission, KS on 6/29, and diagnosed with a broken ICCU, which is scheduled for service on 7/1/2026. Vehicle ICCU unit failed resulting in inability to charge at level 1/2 on AC power and would have ultimately led to failure of the 12v battery, which results in the car shutting down. Posing a safety risk. Resulting repair led to coolant level issue. Currently the only solution to the problem is replacement of the unit, with the exact same unit model. Leaving the possibility of it happening again. The manufacturer has not developed a long term solution to the problem, which is common and affects a large percentage of the vehicles. Previous software update recall did not correct the issue.

At 2am the charging was interrupted by the car (per charger log) and stopped at 68% charge (set to fully charge to 100%). Subsequently the car could not charge any more, and I tested this with two independent level-2 charging units. Both of these chargers are confirmed operational with another electric car in my garage. I took the car to Kia Service on June 4 and they confirmed it was a failed ICCU.

On [XXX] while traveling to NJ, the vehicle displayed "check electrical system" and would not accept a charge. With only 40 miles of range remaining, I drove the vehicle to Jack Daniels KIA. It is STILL at the dealership, and neither the dealer nor KIA Corp has provided a date that the car will be repaired. The dealer told me that it is covered under the 100kmi powertrain warranty, but that KIA corp must direct how and what to fix. They continue to supposedly try different things to fix the car, but either are not applying resources or are ignorant in how to fix the vehicle. KIA will also not compensate me $1308.99 to cover my current losses (car note, uber to get home when it died, and fuel costs) to date. The car has been out of my possession now for 44 consecutive days straight without any end in sight, compensation, or expected repair date. Prior to the failure, audio was not working in the car for several weeks. Kia stated that was due to the ICCU issues and that the 12V was most likely also failing due to the ICCU. ICCU was covered by KIA, but owner of the vehicle had to pay for the replacement of the 12V battery. Vehicle was inspected by manufacturer at the local Kia dealership.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed twice within four weeks. The first failure occurred in March 2026 and was repaired under recall SC327 with a replacement ICCU and fuse. The second failure occurred April 7, 2026, approximately 12 days after pickup. Symptoms: Vehicle failed to charge overnight on Level 1 and Level 2 circuits despite being plugged in. Later that day, while driving, a “Check Electrical System” warning appeared on the dashboard followed by sudden loss of power and acceleration. Vehicle fluctuated between 25-45 mph and could not maintain speed. Vehicle was driven approximately 2.2 miles to the dealership under its own power after warning onset. Safety risk: Sudden loss of power and acceleration while driving created a hazardous condition for myself. Dealer confirmation: The authorized Kia dealer confirmed a DTC for battery overheating and acknowledged the ICCU coolant was not fully topped off after the first replacement, suggesting the recall remedy was incompletely performed. The vehicle has remained at the dealer unrepaired since April 10, 2026. Component available for inspection: Yes, vehicle is currently at the dealership. Recall remedy concern: The SC327 recall remedy did not resolve the ICCU failure. A second failure occurred within two weeks of the repair. The dealer’s subsequent diagnosis of owner-caused undercarriage battery damage is contradicted by their own signed inspection report documenting all undercarriage items as passed with no damage noted

The failure tripped a breaker at my home while it was charging possibly indicating a short circuit. The short circuit could have potentioally overheated and caught fire in my home. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they confirmed it was the ICCU and replaced it under warranty. I have a copy of the invoice received after the replacement was installed. I do not know what they did with the old ICCU after it was placed. There was no indication of pending failure that I noticed prior to this incident occuring.

Electrical propulsion failure resulting in 3 tow-ins. Vehicle goes into limp mode, slows to 20 mph on highway and then stops after about 2 miles. The issue appears related to the ICCU, fuse and 12V battery failures. History includes 6 attached ICCU related Repairs. #1 ICCU updated under recall SC271 at 31,678 miles. #2 Then the ICCU was replaced under recall SC302 at 45,059 miles. #3 Then the ICCU was replaced along with fuse and 12V battery after on road failure and tow in at 52,296 miles. #4 Then the ICCU was updated under recall SC327. #5 Then the ICCU, fuse and 12V battery was replaced at 69,849 miles under recall SC327 after another on road failure and tow in. #6 Then there was a ICCU overheat and charging fault related to a bad ICCU coolant reservoir cap after a charging failure and tow in at 70,957 miles.

On July 3, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23012 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Kia EV6 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charing Unit (ICCU) may become damaged over time from transient high voltage and thermal cycling. A damaged ICCU may not be able to charge the 12-volt battery which can discharge gradually while driving with a reduction of motive power. The vehicle could eventually experience a complete loss of motive power thereby increasing the risk of a crash. On July 13, 2023, Kia conducted a service campaign to inspect the ICCU and install an improved over-current detection software logic in certain 2022-2023 EV6 vehicles. On March 15, 2024, Kia filed recall 24V-200 for 48,232 MY 2022-2024 Kia EV6 vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection of the ICCU, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Kia, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. - 10237042PITSTOP: MAINTAIN NEUTRAL (N) POSITION FOR AN AUTOMATED CARWASH - This bulletin provides information on how to maintain the Neutral (N) position on 2022MY~ EV6 (CV) vehicles when using an automated car wash. When the vehicle is in 'READY' mode, safety systems are active and can unexpectedly apply either the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and/or shift into Park (P) when events such as opening the doors, unlatching seatbelts and/or vehicle rollback is detected. This can cause issues when using an automated car wash, particularly those where the vehicle is sent through without a driver.

The BMS ECU monitors voltage deviation; if over-voltage deviation between battery cells, poor insulation, abnormal cell voltage changes after charging, abnormal current change during charging, over-voltage, low voltage battery temperature deviation or average cell deviation during driving is detected, the BMU sets DTC P1AA600. This BMS DTC logic improvement will expand DTC P1AA600 into multiple DTCs to aid in proper diagnosis, which reduces the required time and steps outlined in the 'DTC Inspection' on KGIS to determine the fault using 'freeze frame' data.

The regenerative braking system charges the battery when coasting or when you use the brakes to stop the vehicle. Use the paddle switches to adjust the regenerative braking level from 0 to 3 during decelerating or braking. Pull the left side paddle switch once again when the regenerative braking level is set to Level 3. The i-Pedal indicator symbol will be illuminated on the instrument cluster. The 'i-Pedal' driving feature controls the vehicle speed by the accelerator pedal, both acceleration and deceleration. In addition, some of the affected vehicles require the application of a leaflet to the owner's manual regarding operation of the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) feature.
- 10235102TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: BMS UPGRADE FOR BATTERY CONDITIONING MODE - This bulletin provides the procedure to install the Battery Conditioning Mode function on some 2022MY EV6 (CV) vehicles produced from November 17, 2021 through October 21, 2022 by updating the software logic of the Battery Management System (BMS). This procedure should only be performed if specifically requested by the customer and should be clearly documented on the RO that it is being performed "per customer request." The battery conditioning mode will optimize the Direct Current (DC) charging performance of the electric vehicle (EV) battery in low outdoor temperatures, by allowing the EV battery to preheat prior to arriving at a DC charger site. The software requires that the owner selects a DC charger site as a point of interest (POI) via the vehicle's navigation system to enable the battery conditioning heating when EV battery temperature is below 68F. Battery heating impact on DC charging may vary depending on initial EV battery temperature and the estimated time to arrive at the POI. It may be possible to enable battery conditioning mode for a longer time prior to departure, as it can help to achieve the longer battery heating time needed in very low temperatures. Enabling the battery conditioning mode will use battery power and temporarily reduce the driving range until the vehicle is charged.
