Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and 2010-2016 LR4 vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines. The fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank may crack, possibly resulting in a fuel leak.
Risk and remedy
Risk
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fuel outlet flange, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N623.

Recall caused full engine failure which caused 75mph to abrupt stop on Highway. Violently shaking and leaked gas inside vehicle. I was confused because I had no collision and liberty mutual denied my claims, but I was hurt from a recall - dealer frequently recorded as fixed during a scam that caused me to lose my full savings and be stuck with a unfixed covered car. (Dealer tried to say they were helping me buy not charging $2500 and said they were sending my car to an impound.) causing me to pay $16k (full savings) towards 18k to clear the loan....the manager said I did not have a deal and that my impounded car would be $4k a month. (Way back confirms recall being fixed on records as I refused unsafe gas recall to be fixed. They sent the car back in pieces) I had to recover it from an abandoned nearby neighborhood and store it for years trying to get help - I am now 100% TBI and believe this gas leak and impact caused me injuries.

I called the Jaguar Land Rover dealership located in Frisco, TX to schedule a maintenance appointment. Before asking what type of maintenance I needed the representative continued to tell me that my vehicle could not be serviced there. I asked why and was told they do not the tools to fix it due to it being a 2010 model. They also said I had 2 recalls but maybe I could try another service facility.

Following the recall repair had to go back to dealer twice ( 9/15/22 & 10/22/22) for the same issue of the fuel smell in the vehicle could be driving, parked, or idling the smell remains the smell is very overpowering kids and I are getting bad headaches/light-headed. For sure it isn't safe and don't believe the initial fix was the answer and there is more to the recall.

while driving at approximately 70 mph on the highway, I encountered a severe issue that jeopardized my safety and the safety of others on the road.The problem manifested as a fuel leak, resulting in fumes inside the vehicle that caused impairment to my ability to operate the vehicle safely. This impairment led to the vehicle entering a gated mode and initiating aggressive braking, almost causing a collision.This incident is deeply alarming, and I believe it poses a serious risk to the well-being of drivers and passengers. I am reaching out to request an immediate investigation into this matter and to seek information on any safety recalls or issues related to the fuel system of the 2010 Land Rover LR4. Fuel tank flange failure caused complex problems for engine replacement needed. Not covered by land rover and was not repaired as reported

The contact owns a 2010 Land Rover LR4. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, an abnormal fuel odor permeated throughout the vehicle. The contact then discovered that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was repaired with the parts that had led to a recall. The contact then received a letter in the mail that his vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred him to his local dealer. The contact was later informed by the dealer that he had to pay for his vehicle to be shipped off his island and onto the mainland where the dealer was located. The manufacturer had not reimbursed him for the repair made prior to the recall. The vehicle was not yet repaired under the recall. The failure mileage was 100,914.

The contact stated that as she arrived at her destination, she noticed a trail of gasoline. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and had not been driven since. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) and scheduled an appointment with the dealer; however, the dealer informed the contact that the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that she contacted the dealer again to follow up on the recall repair, but the dealer informed her that there was no recall on the VIN. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 226,000. VIN tool showed no open recall.

Back in Feb 2019 my LandRover suddenly leaked a large amount of gasoline and then broke down. It stopped running and needed the fuel rail & line replaced & stabilizer bar and bushings & subsequencely complete engine replacement. I also had fluid in the engine and wrecked the engine requiring us to replace the engine.

The petrol flange/fuel filter developed a crack in the top causing fuel to spray out the top of the tank when the engine was running. The tank IS under the vehicle next to the exhaust system, so there IS potential for a fire. There was a strong fuel smell after driving the vehicle, but no fuel dripping when parked. The problem was diagnosed with an internet search which turned up several other instances of the same problem including a video on youtube showing the same issue. Further research revealed an investigation on the issue: nhtsa action number: pe20018. I replaced the filter myself and will keep the old one in case it IS needed for the investigation. Please contact me if you need additional information.

Smelled fuel smell in the garage but never any drips in the garage. After investigation, fuel IS leaking from top of tank and blowing back of the back of the vehicle, part of which IS the tail pipe. Leak IS coming from inline filter at the top of the tank. Common problem, this IS dangerous and needs to be a recall.

Vehicle was leaking fuel. I could always smell gas but could see nothing dripping. Was driving down the freeway when the vehicle just died. The gas monitor said I had 50 miles to go before needing fuel. I got it towed in and was told the fuel pump was leaking. This was dangerous because I had no warning and was in heavy traffic of 70mph when it just died on a bridge. They tow cost me almost $300 to get it to shop. The next day they told me the good news IS I just ran out of gas, and the bad news IS I have a leak around fuel pump which caused it to give a false reading of how much fuel I really had. As strong as the fumes were it's a wonder it never caught fire. This cost over $800 to fix. The other problem I had IS when the fuel injectors failed, and I needed a tow truck again. The car gave a warning saying 'restricted performance' the failure of the fuel injectors caused gas to leak as well, and the shop had to open all it doors and windows. This time the leaking fuel was visible. This cost me over $2600 to fix. This was all within 90 days of each other.

Had to coast the car across four busy lanes of traffic with non responsive gas petal to the shoulder. After the car was shut down and restarted, all error/fault massages went away and the car drove fine. This could have resulted in a serious incident.

I have had repeated failures driving multiple LR4 and a range rover sport (i own both). If while driving the vehicle you lightly rest your foot on the brake pedal (for instance in driving in close quarters) the car will illuminate multiple wanring indicators including engine failure, brake failure, gearbox failure, parking brake failure, ABS failure, traction control failure, stability control unavailable and cruise control unavailable. Generally when these condition occur these system will default to reduced functionality modes. This problem IS reproducible and IS a know issue with the dealer and lrna. Land rover has acknowledged this issue and has no current fix or planned fix. Its apparent cause IS a two stage brake switch which causes a software fault when only one of the two switches IS engaged. Land rover cannot confirm that the failure of these system does not compromise the safety of the car. At the least this frightens the driver with what appears to be a massive systems failure or at worst compromises virtually all the electronic safety systems of the car. This issue seems to apply to the LR4, range rover sport, range rover and jaguar models that use the same engine computer software and brake switch. My research has shown other owners have experienced similar issues

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE20-018 on November 5th, 2020, to investigate fuel leak allegations in vehicles equipped with fuel tank outlet flange Part Number AH229039AB. ODI based the investigation on six consumer complaints it had received and, using information gathered from RQ19-004, five…
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE20-018 on November 5th, 2020, to investigate fuel leak allegations in vehicles equipped with fuel tank outlet flange Part Number AH229039AB. ODI based the investigation on six consumer complaints it had received and, using information gathered from RQ19-004, five field reports and 200 warranty claims in the subject vehicles. At the closing date of PE20-018, the number of related complaints received by ODI has risen to fifteen. In response to an ODI Information Request (IR) letter, Land Rover identified: 57 additional warranty claims (257 total), four additional consumer complaints (ten total), and five dealer field reports.Land Rover?s internal investigation identified a cyclic fuel pressure condition that led to cracks forming in the outlet flanges, resulting in fuel leaks. Fuel tank outlet flange revisions to the subject AH229039AB component increased the rigidity of the outlet flange in the area experiencing the highest stress. As Land Rover continued to assess field returned components, they identified cracks in the vicinity of subsurface voids in the subsequent AH229039AC and AH229039AD fuel tank outlet flanges.Based on the information gathered, Land Rover`s Recall Determination Committee (RDC) elected to recall vehicles with the subject fuel outlet flange and expanded the scope to include all vehicles equipped with fuel outlet flange Part Numbers AH229039AA, AH229039AB, AH229039AC, and AH229039AD. Land Rover will replace the previously listed part numbers with an updated designwhich reduces the pressures exerted on the fuel flange. Recall 21V-635 (covering MY2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and MY2010-2016 LR4 vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines) was reported to NHTSA on February 16, 2021. An interim owner notification letter was distributed in October 2021 alerting owners to the defect and the availability of like for like replacements until the remedy parts become available. Land Rover has indicated that remedy parts will become available in the second quarter of 2022. Correspondence from the fuel outlet flange supplier (Vitesco Technologies) indicated that the components at issue in this investigation were sold exclusively to Land Rover.This Preliminary Evaluation has been closed due to the recall issued by the manufacturer (NHTSA Recall 21V-635). The fifteen consumer complaints reports cited above can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under the following reference numbers: 11122159, 11155570, 11156894, 11220260, 11255901, 11280630, 11337853, 11375884, 11383192, 11388329, 11420940, 11423024, 11428966, 11431744,11440020.
