These records cover every 2004 Land Rover New Range Rover. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
1 recall names the 2004 Land Rover New Range Rover. Newest first.
Certain sport utility vehicles equipped with dynamic stability control may have been fitted with a yaw rate sensor that has internally delaminated, which could actuate the system incorrectly.
This could result in uneven and unexpected application of the brakes, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles to determine if they contain a suspect sensor, and if necessary, replace the sensor. the recall began on april 15, 2005. owners should contact land rover at 1-800-637-6837.
My alternator started going out and as my car was dying out it started speeding up I was trying to push on the break and I got to try to push on the brake it would only force the car to go forward so I was just release my foot off the brake and just let the cargo and the car had went around in circles until it died out then I tried to get a jump from a bus driver
I have to replace my fuel pump two times it cost me over $2,000 and now my steering column isn't working my key won't turn I tested it by taking the fuse out and disconnecting the battery still nothing went to a current range rover spot and they said that's common in those vehicles with the steering column going out which makes the key not turn I hope that you guys can really resolve this situation because for this to be an old vehicle I'm spending a lot of money out of my pocket thank you
I was driving 75 mph on highway on june 1ST, 2016 when a loud grinding noice occurred in the front end followed by loss of drive train. car almost lost control but was able to coast to side of road. the car would still roll while in park and finally had to put emergency brake to stop it. a put in neutral warning came on in dash and I shut the motor off and left on the side of the road. this was a scary and dangerous experience and I would like to know what my options are and if this IS a recall what can I do after it has failed.
The catalytic converter on my car has a known defect which was covered under land rover extended warrant program Q058. On my specific car, the warranty period expired on may 11, 2015. an independent mechanic diagnosed a bad catalytic converter on my car in feb 04, 2014 and told me about the extended warrant program covering this known issue. I made several attempts to schedule an appointment with land rover manhattan dealership but wasn't successful in getting an appointment until after the warranty expired. Land rover IS refusing to cover the repair and I have been tossed back and forth between the land rover dealer and corporate office. I think land rover waited until after the warranty expired so they can avoid paying for the repair.
This IS what I sent to land rover USA last night. Have not heard from them yet. "my 2004 range rover suddenly accelerated at a very high speed for a few seconds while I was parking causing damage to the car and property. Also none of the airbags deployed even though the impact was severe. I would like to be informed of any such issues and what steps were taken to correct them. I would also like to know what recourse I have. I will be contacting the nhtsa to get their input." after the shock wore off I had a closer examination of the incident and I am now positive that the acceleration was not by me. There IS evidence(skid marks) to show that brake was applied from the very beginning. I would appreciate it if the nhtsa can further investigate this incident. I have the car at the place of the incident and nothing has yet been touched. thank you *tr
Less than a year ago, on my 04 rr, I received an message across my odometer saying "air suspension inactive" took it to the dealer on 2-1-2008, the dealer charged me $50 to "cleared the codes" and they could not find anything else wrong with it. Fast-forward to 1-15-2009, I received the same message again, took it back to the dealership, this time they mention I needed a new compressor, which will cost me $1550. Very interesting, when I took it in while my vehicle was still under warranty they couldn't identified the issue from several visit I have made in the past concerning this issue, now my vehicle IS no longer under warranty, this miracle fix just pop up. Very disappointed with this dealership and landrover, to have such a long company tradition and a reputable name, but times like this, they would not step up and be accountable. *Tr
No problems observed with the car. suddenly the steering wheel became loose and fell down to a position where the bottom of the wheel was stuck between my legs. the tilt mechanism failed while the car was the moving and the wheel, although attached to the car, was forced down onto my legs. steering wheel would no longer stay in a drivable position without $1300 replacement of steering column. this was a common problem with range rovers (it was easy to find many others online with a similar problem) and land rover had a recall on another part a year ago, which they deny had any impact on this. spoke to dealer and land rover north america, no compensation was obtained, they were not interested in the fault. one dealer told me some customers had this problem multiple times and had the steering column replaced multiple times before 50,000 miles. unacceptable on an $80,000 car. dangerous *tr
Driving over 60mph when message alert saying trans failsafe prog appears. a loud grinding noise IS heard and the message alert system informs me to put the vehicle in neutral. Which I immediately do. I had to coast in heavy traffic to the emergency lane and wait for tow truck. any attempt to put the vehicle in anything other than neutral results in loud grinding noise. it IS an 2004 range rover with approx 73000 miles. when tow truck arrived we both noticed a large stain under the car as some type of fluid had began to leak as I waited for the tow trucks arrival. *tr
My 2004 land rover range rover has front differential problem, was driving on highway and with out any notice car lost all power and couldn't move. *tr
The driveshaft gave out on the vehicle. This has happen to numerous people. *tr
Driving on city streets, about to enter the freeway, the vehicle lost power, making awful mechanical noises. the engine was running but pressing on the accelerator resulted in metallic crunching noise and no movement. I was stranded, the vehicle was towed some 35 to the purchasing dealer. I was informed that the front differential / drive shaft failed and will be replaced. this IS the second such failure. the first occurred in october 2006. luckily both times were at slow speeds, close to home, and during the day. if this catastrophic failure of the front differential / drive shaft were to occur at speed?i hate to think of the accident that might happen, the damage and injuries that might occur. this IS a serious design flaw which the company needs to address with a new design to replace the defect and dangerous design. *tr
Front differential and drive train failure 2ED time in less than 12 months. this IS a known problem with all 03-05 range rovers, but yet the dealership continues to band-aid the problem. *cn
Driving on highway and transmission failed. 2004 land rover range rover with 53K miles. front differential and drive shaft splines worn down. repaired and replaced. *tr
2004 range rover went dead in the middle of the street due to shaft/differential failure. *tr
The front differential has malfunctioned twice in the past 18 months. the vehicle comes to a near screeching halt when this happens, both times at highway speeds and IS unsafe. the first time it was replaced; it IS currently in the shop for the second replacement. *tr
While driving on the freeway @ about 65 mph a loud screeching noise just came out of no where then the vehicle would not accelerate when putting your foot on the gas & when I tried to accelerate it was accompanied by more loud grinding noises! We were almost killed on the freeway because we were in the fast lane & the car locked up!!! I had to have it towed home @ a cost of $300. there was an investigation opened for her problem action # ea0712 for component power train:driveline:differential unit, power train:axle assembly:axle shaft, power train:driveline:driveshaft. Prior to this I have had no problems or any signs of any problem with my 2004 range rover hse. I called range rover today (monday 11/26/07) @ 1-800-637-6837 and was rudely advised by the rep. That she wasn't a auto mechanic & that I would have to deal with it with my local dealership. I can't imagine this just being a normal routine problem in owning this car & would like a answer. I love my rover but can't afford to have this happen! *tr
Normal driving on asphalt pavement at approximately 45 mph. front drive shaft, and or, front differential failure. resulted in inability to drive vehicle. this IS second time this has happened over the last 15,000 miles. *tr
While driving at speed in excess of 60mph the suspension, transmission, driveshafts failed multiple times. Require tow serviced each time due to complete powerfailures. Vehicle locked and forced me into emergency lane on the nj turnpike. Landrover replaced only the battery and alternator the first time and 3 months later the failure happened again , and they replaced the battery and alternator again. Vehicle has electronic problems I have had speakers, ecu sensors, steering wheel motor, parking sensors all replaced in a 12 month span of a 2 year lease. Landrover will not help me obtain a safe replacement for the remained of my lease. *tr
Catastrophic failure of front differential at 65 mph. no warning signs. vehicle unable to drive. towed to landrover walnut creek, ca.
On 7/22/07 my 2004 land rover range rover without warning and traveling approx 20mph started making a very loud grinding noise and came to a halt. I put it in park and the noise was gone. Then I shifted it into drive and again grinding noise and no movement. I shut it down and called for a tow (flatbed). At the repair shop (not dealer - the dealer said they have not heard of this issue) told me this IS common with rr 2003-05 models. Since it IS a common problem and a clear manufacture defect, land rover or the ford motor group should be held liable and recall all affected models and repair them. I had to pay $2600.00 for a new differential and driveshaft. *tr
2004 range rover differential failure. The vehicle failed twice in traffic and just shut down, I had to have it towed. I am lucky to be alive, this problem was very dangerous, when I did research on the vehicle I was shocked to learn that it has not be recalled. The dealer will hit you for cost everytime, it was a racket and a shame.*ak
I noticed a loss in power to the land rover range rover. Also noticed a clunking noise from the front of the SUV. the SUV was now in the shop for a repair that was common on the range rover to replace the front differential and the driveshaft. If I had not been alert to the noise when I had the window down I might have experienced a hazardous situation on the highway. the fix at this time was just replace the parts with new ones, but I understood that this was not addressing the problem, but just providing a temporary solution until suvwas out of warranty period. *ak the SUV IS a 2004 range rover with 33K miles on it.
Front differential failure.*ak
I was driving down a main road on us 69 in tyler, texas friday evening. the vehicle has 51000 miles on it. I was traveling at 40mph when the car slipped out of gear and said to shift to neutral. car died on the spot, and had to have it towed. apparently it was due to front differential breaking. I read on webs ites that 2004 and older range rovers have this problem. my vehicle was in the process of having front differential,cv axle, and transmission replaced due to this problem.*ak
Front differential. thank god I was in a safe place. *jb
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Summary:in a letter dated december 2, 2008, ford motor company (ford) notified nhtsa that land rover IS conducting a safety recall of model year (my) 2003 through 2005 range rover vehicles built at the solihull (uk) assembly plant from january 3, 2002 through february 22, 2005, to replace the front driveshaft joint (nhtsa recall no. 08V-635, land rover recall no. P041). The front differential coupling sleeve and the propeller shaft may be misaligned resulting in spline wear over time, which may eventually result in the splines shearing.the defect condition can result in a loss of propulsion and subsequent vehicle disablement in the roadway or on the shoulder of the roadway. Furthermore, the defect condition can also cause loss of the transmission lock function when the vehicle IS shifted into the park position.the loss of the transmission lock function can cause a vehicle rollaway condition if the emergency brake IS not applied and the vehicle IS unattended by the driver. In july 2008, land rover initiated a service action (Q041) instructing dealers to install a redesigned front propeller shaft, front differential coupling and heat shield kit to address the misalignment and subsequent spline wear.this IS the same repair procedure that will be used in safety recall 08v-635.approximately 48 percent of the subject vehicles (18,000) have had the remedy performed under service action Q041 as of december 2, 2008. Odi believes that sudden loss of motive power without warning and failure of the transmission lock function are safety consequences that, particularly in the context of the high failure rate of the subject components, represent an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety as stated in a recall request letter sent to ford and land rover on november 6, 2008.land rover does not agree, but IS changing its customer satisfaction program to a safety recall as odi requested. Land rover noted that it was aware of one alleged accident; however, it was unaware of any injury or vehicle damage associated with the alleged accident.land rover's recall resolves the safety defect concerns pursued by this investigation. This engineering analysis IS closed.
In response to an information request (ir) letter sent by the office of defects investigation (odi), ford stated that the primary cause for the majority of the reported front differential/drive shaft failures IS a misalignment of the joint between the two components.certain levels of misalignment may over time cause an uneven wear of the splines.continued wear of the splines may result in a shearing of the splines and the inability of the driveshaft to transfer torque to the front differential. To address the issue in the field, ford initiated a service campaign in june 2003 to correct the misalignment issue and, if necessary, replace the front drive shaft and/or differential.the service campaign covered model year (my) 2003 and my 2004 vehicles built from april 18, 2002 through july 3, 2003.in production, ford introduced a change to the lubricating grease of the joint in february 2003 and a change to the assembly plant alignment process in july 2003 to address the misalignment and wear issue. Odi identified one crash related to the alleged defect.the crash involved a subject vehicle being struck in the rear after becoming disabled by a front differential/driveshaft failure and pulling to the side of the road. This preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea07-012) to further assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of front differential/driveshaft failures in the subject vehicle population.
