Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid vehicles. A manufacturing defect in one or more of the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Battery failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Battery failure can also increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will update the battery energy control module (BECM) and hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM), free of charge. Owners are advised to only use "Auto EV" mode and will be instructed by mail to limit the maximum charge of the battery until the remedy has been completed. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25SC4. Vehicles in this recall were previously recalled under 24V954 and will need to have the new remedy performed. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 18, 2025.

I am filing a complaint regarding the outcome of Safety Recall 25SC4 on my vehicle. Following the completion of the recall service at the dealership on 9/11/2026, my vehicle's electric driving range immediately suffered an approximate 25% reduction from the previous week charging capacity. There are no warning lights on the dashboard. Upon returning the vehicle to the authorized Lincoln dealership on 10/5/2026 to report this severe drop in performance, the service department stated "no repair" could be performed and that the vehicle was operating as intended. While I understand the recall involves safety software modifications to mitigate battery short circuits, a permanent 25% reduction in advertised electric capability (no longer charges up to 13 kwh for a 100% charge as it did prior to the recall) severely degrades the vehicle's utility and value. It also forces a heavier reliance on the gasoline engine, which contradicts the plug-in hybrid safety and efficiency standards I purchased. I am requesting that the NHTSA review whether this software-induced range degradation constitutes an acceptable remedy under federal recall guidelines.

I was driving down the highway at around 70 mph, with one passenger. There had been no indications that anything was wrong with the vehicle. Then I noticed the car slowing down though I had not let up on the gas, which I now understand is called 'limp mode'. The screen said 'service vehicle soon'. It kept slowing down while I carefully pulled to the side of the road. Thankfully I had been in the right lane. This was not a very safe place to be, relatively close to an overpass. I turned off the car and let it rest for a few minutes. Then I started it and tried the gas. It did speed up to about 35 mph, so I kept going to try and get past the area of high traffic and little shoulder. Once I got past the overpass, I pulled over again. I stopped, let it rest and then started up again. Still it only went up to about 35 mph, but I was able to get to an exit and pull into a parking lot. I then called a tow truck and eventually they took the car to the closest Lincoln dealership. After reviewing the car, the dealership's service center said they did not see anything wrong with the vehicle and could not reproduce the issue. They did say that records showed a similar incident had happened in May 2025, under a different owner. They suggested I take the vehicle home and come back if it happened again. Then on July 12th, I was driving down I75 again, this time in the left lane and with my son in the car, and the same thing happened. The car started slowing down and the screen said 'service vehicle soon'. I was able to pull off at the next exit and let the car rest. We happened to be only 1.6 miles from the Lincoln dealership, so I carefully drove the car there and left it since they were closed. They later said that the service bulletin suggested that if they could drive the car 4 times without an issue, they could clear the issue. I looked further into it and found that there is an open recall on the vehicle, with no remedy, Open Safety Recall 25SC4. I do NOT feel safe.

Our 2022 Corsair Hybrid has been at Haldeman Ford in Kutztown, PA since October 29th. We will not drive it to our house because it is unsafe at any speed. The engine in this car has suddenly failed at least seven or eight times while being driven. At least three of these failures occurred when being driven by different Haldeman Ford technicians. They saw nothing that would explain the engine’s sudden catastrophic failure. The technicians cannot find out what is wrong with the vehicle and agree that the vehicle is dangerous to drive. Prior recall for engine failure stated that the car was not to be driven but also not to be plugged in because there was risk of fire. That recall is proof that the car was a lemon from the day it left the factory. It has been gently driven and has less than 16,000 miles. If the Corsair were to be said to be “repaired” at this point it would then require us to then act as crash test dummies with no guarantee that the engine would not stop suddenly - resulting in catastrophic injury or death. I could not ethically sell this car going forward. NOTE: On November 20, 2025 the NHTSA issued Manufacturer Recall Number 25SC4 - NHTSA Recall Number 25V789. This recall is for a manufacturing defect in the high voltage battery cells to cause an internal short circuit. This recall cites lost of motive power with increased risks in both crash and fire issues. This car has had several recalls in the past as well also dealing with fire and safety problems from the factory.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission oil pump had independently switched to Safe Mode and needed to be replaced. I was driving to work via the [XXX] in California when at approximately 6:40am I felt a jerking motion in my 2022 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring (PHEv) and then immediately began receiving various warning lights and chimes indicating an issue. The vehicle was losing power and I was safely able to exit the freeway and pull to the side of the road. There were numerous warning indicators activated, including Service Engine Soon, Hill Start Assist failure, Pre-Collision Assist failure, EV Battery not available, and others. I exited the vehicle to ensure that there was not any visible physical damage, and did not find anything. I checked the Owners Manual for the warnings and it indicated that if the vehicle was able to be driven, it could but with caution. I proceeded to drive to work, approximately 4.7 miles away. The vehicle could not be driven over 35 MPH without violently shaking, along with a mechanical grinding noise. Drive Control was also not active and the vehicle felt like it had no suspension. Estimated repair time was approximately 1 week per the Lincoln Concierge (LC), and no root problem had been identified at the time. On Monday, 10/28 I followed up via text to the LC for an update and was informed that they checked with the Transmission technician and they had started to “tear down the transmission to find the fault.” On 10/30, I asked for another update and to inform the LC that I had a preplanned vacation to Big Bear, CA on 11/7/24 and hoped to have it back before then. On 10/31, the LC informed me that the Tech had “ordered a new transmission today and should be here by Tuesday [11/5/24].” On 11/5, I followed up via text to the LC and was informed that the new arrival date for the transmission would be 11/6 or 11/7. Because I did not have my Corsair and wanted to be cautious of the miles on the loaner, we took an alternate vehicle for the road trip. See PDF attached for additional details. Electrical connector and wiring harness melted due to close proximity to the right rear exhaust pipe. Experiencing intermittent parking brake fault messages that results in a check engine light, when climbing a grade longer then 1 mile long. Suspect extra heat produced from engine load had damaged some of the internal wires of the connector. This first occurred with 2000 miles on the odometer, 2 months old. Lincoln started producing these GT model Corsairs with a heat shield missing (that was part of 2021 and some 2022 models) that probably would have protected this wiring harness. Not sure what circuits are running through this connector, but their are a lot of wires in it. The connector is melted enough that it probably cannot be unplugged anymore. There is melted plastic residue on the exhaust pipe from the connector. Dealer has confirmed the melted connecter and zip tied the connector further away from the exhaust pipe as a temporary fix till they can investigate further.

Reported to the Ford/Lincoln service department multiple times. They have inspected the vehicle multiple times. NO warning at any time.

After driving for ten hours, I parked. The next morning, the SUV started normally. One minute later, the check engine light came on, citing "air may be in present in the cooling system". Then, the 'engine coolant over-temperature' warning came on less than two hours later. I took itto the dealer the next morning. They charged me to diagnose the situation. The coolant hose for the electric motor broke underneath the car. It caused the electric motor to overheat, which could lead to a fire. Had this happened in a remote area, occupants can become stranded.

Electrical System. Yes. While driving in traffic both on surface streets and the freeway the power in my vehicle stopped. The vehicle went from Drive to Park on its own. The battery light came on. The Start/Stop light went from solid green to blinking green. Vehicles around me had to stop suddenly to avoid a collision and the wait until I could restart the vehicle. NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

- 10249424Some 2020-2023 Escape, 2021-2023 Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5L engine full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles equipped with 2.5L engine FHEV powertrain may exhibit a condition where the 12V battery voltage is low or discharged with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U3003:62 stored in the direct current/direct current (DC/DC) converter control module. The vehicle may also exhibit DTC U3003:16 and/or U3000:04 stored in the DC/DC converter control module. This may be due to an open in the 300 amp high-current fuse F4 located in the high-current battery junction box (BJB). To correct this condition, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-05 > Pinpoint Test H to verify the 300 amp high-current fuse condition. If the high-current fuse is found to be open, replace the high-current fuse per the application listing in the parts catalog. Recharge and test the 12v battery. For repairs under warranty, use the base part number of the component that caused the damage to the fuse.

This style of charging cord can be indentified by one of the 220V prongs positioned sideways. If the vehicle charges properly using a 110/120V non-ground fault interrupter (GFI) outlet with the original 220V adapter removed, replace the adapter (part number VLC5Z-10B706-B) alone. This replacement adapter is available from accessories.lincoln.com > keyword search Turbo Cord, or through the local Ford Authorized Distributor (FAD). Discoloration of the 220V adapter or dual voltage charging cord could indicate a problem with the electrical outlet used; if so a licensed electrician should inspect. - 10236028Some 2020-2023 Escape/Corsair equipped with 2.5L engine full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles equipped with 2.5L engine FHEV powertrain may exhibit a condition where the 12V battery voltage is low or discharged with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U3003:62 stored in the direct current/direct current converter control module (DC/DC). The vehicle may also exhibit DTC U3003:16 and/or U3000:04 stored in the DC/DC module. This may be due to an open in the 300 amp mega fuse located in the high current battery junction box (BJB). To correct this condition, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-05>Pinpoint Test H1 to verify the 300 amp mega fuse condition, replace the fuse upon confirm it is open. Test and recharge the 12v battery.
