while driving on the highway/freeway system in the Portland Oregon area on several occasions one of which i initiated myself activated the cruise control immediately after initiating the vehicle began to increase its speed to the continuing to speeds well beyond the 100 mile per hour mark I was not able to deactivate the cruise control in the usual ways pressing the brake pedal did not work cruise control knob has a cancel that was not responsive either on two other times this happened when I while driving the same thing happened but i was un aware i had touched the cruise control knob one of which a friend of mine was driving and i failed to notify the individual to be extremely careful not to use cruise control he had initiated by accident since it was so close to the blinker control switch He had more strength than i did and managed to bring it to a full stop burning through brake pads leaving it smelling as though there was a fire that had taken place in the vehicle, I recently read that another company that made similar vehicles as the Mercedes Benz slk model was having similar problemns

This has been happening over the last few months and poses a very deadly situation. * Independent MB Specialist Master Mechanic pulled codes and confirmed problem. He advised there are no parts available. * No lamps indicated problem was imminent.

On three occasions the brakes were applied by the stability control system without driver intervention. in the most recent occurrence this action placed the driver and other motorist in the vicinity of the car in extreme danger. Traveling east bound on highway 80 through fairfield california in the left lane at approximately 75 mph, the brakes were abruptly activated by the stability system causing the car to yaw to the right and then suddenly to the left. Fortunately there was enough distance between other motorist that there was not a collision. the car did however almost collide with the center barrier. this was an extremely dangerous situation.

I do not know what this IS involving, but from what I have read it may be a sensor and everybody that has had this problem could not easily get a mechanic that understood what to do. this IS a very dangerous issue. this has happened now three times and I cannot drive the car now. I have low mileage on this car. I was driving about 55 miles and hour and suddenly my car braked, made a scraping noise & swerved to the right. this lasted 20 seconds. it scared me since someone was behind me and about ran into my rear end, not to mention other cars around me. my mechanic checked my car with the benz computer system and did not find anything and told me sometimes this happens and it never happens again. tonight it happened two more times on the freeway and while driving over the canyon where many cars go off the canyon road over cliffs. it lasted a good 20 seconds doing the same thing and it was a crowded freeway. this time I found that my bas/esp light came on. after researching this issue I find that your company dropped the recall issue on this car when this IS an extremely serious problem. most mechanics cannot fix this problem and I see that mercedes knows about this & that there was a potential recall issue. does somebody need to die to fix this with a recall? very frightening that this issue has not been taken care. as said many mechanics don't know what it IS and cars still have the same serious problem. how can this issue be taken lightly??

Vehicle applied brakes on it's own at highway speed and no driver application. the bas/esp alarm lights came on and the vehicle seemed to be ok until it was turned off. the alarm cleared when restarted but the vehicle applied brakes again on it's own and the indicators came back on. the repair shop could not get a code because it was not on when they checked it. this has happened at least 10-12 times but only during hours when the business IS closed. I let my local mechanic drive it for a week and it never happened with him. this IS very sporadic but dangerous situation. I've seen numerous entries on SLK forums with owners having the same problem with this vehicle.

Replaced the relay for seats but can't get tail lights to work check on recall was not honored what the heck. Mercedes should fix these continual problems that continue to cost us big bucks to fix $600.00 each time becomes to much, last mercedes for me or friends and family. mercedes stand behind your product it's a shame we have to continue to fight with a big company like mercedes, I hope someone does something to correct these on going problems with these expensive cars.

My brake lights are defective; they have been repaired several times but after a few months, they stop working. I have this car since 2006 and have been told this was a recall issue. But when I went to autobahn motors in belmont, ca, they refused to repair them. I was told by another mb dealer that the recall was finished and by another that they had been repaired at some point (?); I understand that it IS not the brake lights themselves but some mechanism that was faulty and that has to be replaced. I cannot afford to have them repaired every 3 or 4 months and feel mb should do it since it was a recall and the lighting mechanism should stay fixed.

Driving about 30 miles with the hard top down (convertible) on my way home then start smelling something like plastic burning then notice someone from behind me waving/honking her horn, I pull my car aside and a lot of smoke coming inside the engine hood, got out of the car and saw flame coming out underneath from the drivers side.my car IS totally engulf in flames.

While driving it, the car will act like I slammed on the brakes and the bas/esp light will come on. I am not hitting the brakes when this happens, I am just driving along. *js initially, these events happened at low speeds, more recently it happened at 50mph in the rain. there seems to be no connection to speed, acceleration, turning, or anything other than random faults. dealer read an esp code c1120-004, 016 esp yaw sensor plausibility occurred 1 time and erased code. they could not duplicate the condition in a short test drive. Nevertheless, it happened again at freeway speed on the way home, and again the following day at slow speed.

Rear break lights were repalced in 2006 recall (05v05000). same problem in jan of 2015. no chance of dealer standing behind the recall again. now I have to pay out of pocket the cost to fix the lights that were recalled prior. over $600. when they just replaced the recall with the same faulty lights. turns out their c-class IS now having the same recall problem.

The technician stated that the tail light assembly would need to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000. Updated 12/23/14*lj the consumer stated the manufacturer was contacted and advised they would not be assisting with repairs because they assisted once before, on july 31, 2004. There IS a deadly issue with the 2001 slk320 and similar models/years, in regards to the lateral speed sensor and the yaw sensor. When these sensors go faulty, they engage the brakes on the car while the car IS in motion. The lateral speed sensor triggers the brakes while driving straight forward, and the yaw sensor triggers the brakes when making a right or left turn. This IS extremely dangerous, as the car IS stopped while it IS in motion, regardless of speed. This has happened to me over a handful of times from december 2013 when I purchased the car, up until yesterday, september 22, 2014. This IS also a known issue across mercedes car forums, so it IS extremely unsettling that the issue has not been addressed. In regards to my experience: while driving straight, the front passenger side brake IS sporadically engaged due to the lateral speed sensor. This has happened to me at various speed limits, and it IS very scary as there IS no warning. When the brake engages, the car skids to the right as a result of the brake locking. The first time this happened to me I was on a busy highway in the rain and almost skidded into other cars. Yesterday, the brakes engaging almost caused me to drive up a curb and into a fence. This has even occurred while I have been driving up to 60mph, which IS incredibly dangerous. As previously stated, there are hundreds of other drivers that have experienced this same safety issue. The lateral speed sensor costs several hundred dollars to replace, while the yaw sensor costs almost $1,000 to replace. Consumers should not have to come out of pocket to pay for a poorly produced product, but with the issue being potentially fatal, owners have had no choice. I adamantly believe that mercedes needs to address this issue, and recall these sensors. Lives are literally at stake. *tr

I brought it to the dealer and they told me it was the exact same problem that had been recalled and replaced. apparently the recall repair was not a real solution. mercedes must have just replaced the bad part knowing it would be a few years before it failed again. well, here we are again and they are refusing to fix it and want me to pay almost $600 to fix. *tr

Car driven normally on cold, clear night. Road condition was fair (dry from centerline to travel lane midpoint w/ hard-packed snow from there to shoulder). Experienced a vibration, squealing noise & slight pull to right. Stopped to investigate possibility of blown tire. Found nothing wrong after visual inspection, so resumed driving. approx. 15S later, squealing, vibration & sensation of pulling to right returned, then car would not respond to throttle inputs & slowed from 40 to 25mph. Car then shuddered violently w/ loud screeching noise, snapped to right & lost control. Attempts to counter steer were ineffective as car slid on hard-packed snow for approx. 100' & struck snowbank at 20mph. Fortunately snow was very light, dry and fluffy & deceleration was reasonably gentle. No major damage occurred & air bags did not deploy. after extricating, car could not be driven. An observer standing outside the car noted front right wheel would roll for a few feet, then lock up. Shut engine off & restarted (attempting to reset systems). At this point both 'bas esp' and 'ABS' warning lights illuminated (they were not lit previously). Car still could not be driven - front right wheel would lock up after a few feet of travel & had to be towed away. later determined incident caused by yaw sensor failure. Front right wheel had been locking & sliding on hard packed snow then suddenly regained traction when it crossed a dry patch of pavement, causing the rapid directional change & loss of control. Very dangerous. If car had hit a tree, parked car, etc. Instead of soft snowbank this would have been a serious crash likely w/ injury. Unacceptable & unsafe! please reopen investigation! This IS a potentially very dangerous system! Sensors should continuously self-check & shut system off completely if failed. This will kill someone eventually if nothing IS done! *tr

First of all, I just want to file a complaint against mercedes benz ( house of import in buena park , ca). The vehicle that I have IS 2001 SLK 320 model. The vehicle IS under recall campaign , campaign # 2006080005. This recall campaign has been initiated due to the heat generated by the brake lamps of the affected vehicles. The base of the socket can be subject to thermal deformation over time. This can cause a failure of either brake light. A failure of the brake lamp bulbs to illuminate could lead to a rear end crash. I took my vehicle in for that service in 2007 and the problem IS still there after the service. I tried to stop there few times but they want to charge me $150 dollars just to find out what wrong with the vehicle ( even though they know its the brake light issue). I don't have money to pay for it and I just left upset and mad. Finally I just wanted to resolve the issue,contacted mercedes today july 30,2013 and also went to the dealer to address my concern and they said " we can only cover one year and it expired". Again, $150 will be charged just to diagnostic to find out what s wrong with the vehicle. I told them the same issue with the vehicle( the brake light IS out-recall issue), and they did not do it properly and it happened again. Now, they said if I want to fix it I have to pay for the service which I find ironic because of the same issue. They would not listen about my concern and safety issue that I have regarding about this matter. once again, safety IS my priority and I do not want to get into an accident. I wish they could have done better job to assist consumers. I want to find a solution not just for me but to all the owners out there who faces the same issue so I need to file a complaint to ca attorney general office about the safety issue. While driving approximately 30 mph along a straight paved road under clear conditions, the right rear tire suddenly locked. There was a loud screech from the tire. The car immediately fishtailed and swung the rear end of the vehicle into the oncoming lane and directed the car towards the sidewalk where pedestrians were walking. Thankfully, I was not traveling fast! After some research, this seems to be an very dangerous, yet relatively common, issue with mercedes. Despite the complaints, a nhtsa investigation into the faulty yaw sensor (turn rate sensor) was abandoned. Please reopen the case as this IS a serious issue! *tr

Had I not had a firm grip on the steering wheel to hold the car in the road, the car would have left the roadway. This IS a very scary and dangerous defect. while reading posts in online forums, several people with these cars are having similar experiences. The two on board computers failed; because of a short circuit inside the electrical system. The dealer had to replace them twice. The cooling fan control monitor IS defective and fail; causing the engine to overheat. I was told the cooling fan control monitor IS defective. Please investigate this as it IS not just happening on this model vehicle of mercedes benz. I have search online(esp/bas problems) at benzworld.com and also at slkworld.com and found numerous people looking into this ongoing problem. Mercedes more than likely has the repair records to support this if they are willing to step up to the plate and fix this sever safety issue. *Tr

- 11009122Complaint Washer fluid system leaks Cause Various possible causes: 1. Washer fluid reservoir itself. 2. Seal on washer fluid pump/washer fluid reservoir. 3. Washer fluid pump. 3.1. Distributor housing leaks. 3.2. Pump fitting leaks. 3.3. Washer fluid hose cannot be snapped into place on pump fitting. 3.4. Washer fluid hose will not stay on pump fitting, although connector OK. 4. Washer fluid line. 4.1 Connector will not stay on pump fitting because it is broken. 4.2 Sealing ring in connector missing. 4.3 Sealing ring in connector fitted, but deformed and therefore leaks. 4.4 Damage to washer line by animal. 5. Seal on heating washer fluid reservoir/washer fluid reservoir. Remedy Replace defective component parts only. Do not replace any adjacent component parts that are intact. Note: Repair kits for washer line hoses do exist to allow patches for line damage.
- 11008091Complaint During a phone call, the called party has difficulty understanding/cannot understand the driver, or interference/background noises are audible to the called party during a call. It becomes increasingly difficult to understand as the speed rises. Cause A. Seating of the microphones in the headliner. Side edges are covered by the textile cover (see picture "1") B. Assembly of microphones (B25/20 or B25/21) in the headliner. C. Dirt inside the microphone housing Remedy 1. Press finger on rear of microphone (on adhesive tape) 2. Remove microphone cap from the front 3. Eliminate protruding material residues of the microphone cutout at the headliner, e.g. with a soldering iron. The microphone must be seated in the headliner as shown in picture "2". 4. Push microphone from behind until it is firmly pressed into the headliner 5. Maintain pressure and press/clip cap into microphone from the front. Note: The cover cap must be clearly heard and felt to engage. 6. This procedure must be carried out on both microphones (B25/20 and B25/21) Note: It is recommended to replace the cover caps. The non-woven cloth in the cover cap protects the microphone from soiling and must not be removed. - 11007974Complaint Headlamps leaking or fogged Cause The fogging of the headlamp is a natural phenomenon which can occur under certain climatic conditions. In contrast to a leaky headlamp, physical fogging does not result in a technical impairment of the headlamp. A leak test must be performed to determine if physical fogging exists or if the headlamp is leaky. Remedy In advance, observe LI82.10-P-078301 "Headlamps or Front Fog Lamps Leaking or Fogged". 1. Prepare headlamp/check for external damage: For headlamps with a closed system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and check also for correct seating of the Gore-diaphragm/correct latching of the cover caps. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. For headlamps with an open system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and seal off the vent then make sure the cover caps are latched correctly into place. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. Note: A headlamp with external damage is not a warranty or goodwill case. 2. Leak test of headlamp with overpressure: Connect test adapter to pressure tester. (Figure 1) Check test adapter for leak tightness. To do so, connect plug and coupling (picture 2) and apply a maximum overpressure of 30 mbar. The pressure must remain constant. If the pressure does not remain constant, use a new adapter. Seal all the outlet openings using sealing compound and the given diaphragm with the plunger (picture 3). (Picture 4) Make allowance for the different headlamp variants here (there are different outlet openings). Check if the headlamp needs to be removed to gain access to the diagnostic socket on the headlamp housing. Plug the adapter onto the diagnostic socket on the headlamp housing. (Picture 5). Apply a maximum of 30 mbar overpressure to the headlamp housing. Note: If the maximum overpressure of 50 mbar is exceeded the headlamp seal will be damaged. If a pressure drop of less than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is not leaky and the problem is down to natural physical fogging. If a pressure drop of more than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is leaky. Note: The leaky position can be localized with the aid of soap suds. Replace any leaky headlamps. Note: Desiccant packs can be installed for headlamps that are not leaky. See: LI82.10-P-064766 Fogged headlamp, desiccant pack installed - open ventilation system LI82.10-P-078304 Fogged headlamp, desiccant pack installed - closed ventilation system

Switch off the engine and connect battery support via a charger. 3. Open the hood or trunk. 4. Switch on the lights. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation, a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (thawing progress). Clearing fogged/condensed halogen/xenon headlamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4F). Note: Do not perform an engine wash before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine. 3. Open the hood. 4. Switch off the lights. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation, a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (thawing progress). Note: If there is no visible reduction in the formation of condensation, check the headlamp for a defect. (See Remedy 2) It is not physically possible to defog the headlamps completely. Fogging does not impair the operation or the service life of the headlamp. Remedy 2 A Damaged headlamp can be identified as follows: 1. Check the headlamp for external damage and that the cover caps and the diaphragm are correctly seated. 2. Check the electrical connectors of the plugs and pins. 3. Check for leak tightness in accordance with LI82.10-P-078307. The test can only be conducted on headlamps. 4. If the headlamp or the rear lamp has any external damage, replace the component part in accordance with the WIS instructions. Note: External damage to the headlamp/rear lamp or faulty seating of the cover caps does not present a warranty or goodwill case. With headlamps, it is possible to install desiccant packs if the problem occurs repeatedly. Open ventilation system: LI82.10-P-064766. Closed ventilation system LI82.10-P-078304

This does not lead to any technical impairment of the rear lamps. Remedy Rear lamp: Remedy 1: Clearing fogged/condensed rear lamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4 F) Note: Do not wash the vehicle or subject it to high-pressure cleaning before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine and connect battery support via a charger. 3. Open the trunk. 4. Switch on the exterior lighting. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation -> a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (defogging progress).
