These records cover every 1995 Mercury Mystique. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
12 recalls name the 1995 Mercury Mystique. Newest first.
Federal mogul IS recalling 6,903 aftermarket ball joint assemblies shipped between november 9, 2007 and march 26, 2008, which may have been packaged with incorrect nuts. the part numbers packaged with incorrect nuts are: k7147, k7329, k8683, and 104353. these parts were made for use on the various vehicles listed above.
The nuts included in the packaging for these ball joint assemblies are missing the intended prevailing torque (self-locking) feature. if the incorrect nut was to become loose, the joining members may loosen leading to a separation of the ball joint. this may result in loss of vehicle control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Federal mogul will notify owners and replace the parts free of charge. the recall began on may 22, 2008. owners can contact federal mogul at 877-489-6659.
Certain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006…
Loss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Affinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.
This IS not a safety recall in accordance with the safety act. however, it IS deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. vehicle description: 1995-1997 ford contour and mercury mystique vehicles. the heater blower resistor could overheat causing the attached electrical connector to melt.
This could create the potential for a fire.
Ford will provide additional warranty coverage for the heater blower switch for 10 years from original date of sale of the vehicle or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. dealers will install a new heater blower resistor and a new wire jumper harness free of charge.
Vehicle description: 1995 passenger vehicles equipped with the 2.0L and 2.5L engines, and 1996 vehicles equipped with 2.5L engines. tightening of the engine cooling fan motor bearings, up to and including motor stall, can result in increased motor torque and higher than normal motor current and accompanying high motor temperatures.
Overheating of the cooling fan motor due to excessive current can result in smoke and odors from bearing grease, insulation and other internal motor components. if electrical current continues to be applied to the motor, internal motor components could ignite possibly igniting other engine compartment components.
Dealers will install a positive temperature coefficient device in-line with each fan motor. ford will also extend the warranty on the engine cooling fan assembly to a total of 8 years of service or 100,000 miles from the warranty start date, whichever occurs first. if the vehicle already has more than 100,000 miles, this coverage will last until july 31, 2001.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. the floor shift automatic transmission control can be damaged if subjected to certain interior cleaning products. the gear position indicator can deteriorate and not correctly indicate the actual gear position.
This condition can result in incorrect gear selection.
Dealers will replace the automatic transmission floor shift control.
Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with the traction control option. the throttle cables were damaged during vehicle assembly leading to fraying or separation of the throttle cable.
This condition could prevent the engine from returning to idle.
Dealers will replace the throttle cable with a revised design that IS less susceptible to bending or kinking during installation.
The fuel tank filler pipe opening reinforcement, constructed from two separately molded pieces, can leak at the weld.
Fuel leakage can result in a fire.
Dealers will replace the fuel tank assemblies with units containing one-piece molded reinforcements.
Cracks have been found in the front safety belt outboard anchor tabs due to a combination of hydrogen embrittlement of the tab and stress introduced during attachment of the anchor tab to the seat frame. This does not conform with the requirements of fmvss no. 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."
Consequence of non-compliance: a fracture or separation in this area would reduce the load that the anchor and the front safety belt anchorages could sustain, increasing the risk of injury in a vehicle collisoin.
Dealers will inspect and install an anchor tab reinforcement or replacement of the complete front seat belt assembly if an anchor tab IS found to have fractured.
The passenger side air bag has an inflator body that cracked during forming of the curl that retains the igniter plug in the end of the inflator. Also the igniter end cap can separate from the inflator.
The passenger side air bag may not inflate properly resulting in reduced occupant protection in a vehicle accident. If the igniter end cap separates in a frontal collision, hot gases can be released and ignite flammable material or cause burn injuries.
Dealers will remove and replace the passenger side air bag module.
The glass tempering process on the right hand rear door windows was not correctly performed. This does not meet the requirements of fmvss no. 205, "glazing materials."
Consequence of non-compliance: if the window breaks, the glass fragments of the rear windows exceed the size specifications of fmvss no. 205.
Dealers will replace the right rear door glass.
The fuel tank filler pipe opening reinforcement can leak at the weld.
Fuel leakage can result in a fire.
Dealers will inspect and, as appropriate, replace the fuel tanks.
A metal shield on the outside of the plastic fuel filler pipe can develop a static electrical charge during refueling of the vehicle.
A static charge can discharge and serve as an ignition source for fuel vapors in the area of the filler pipe, resulting in a flash vapor ignition and a vehicle fire.
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, modify the vehicles by adding a ground strap between the filler pipe shield and the body.
I bought this car on june 22,2011. On that day I told the dealer that the speedometer was acting erratic, jumping up and down. At the time, it wasn't affecting the speed. They said they know and just wait and see what happens. About a month or so later, the speedometer stopped working, causing the car to hesitate a little. I brought it back and they got a cable from a used contour and rigged it so it would work. So they claim.i was also told they just repaired the cable differently. Regardless, they said they repaired it. it worked and I drove it for at least another 2 months or so now and it failed again. I drove back to the shop and they say its a dealer part or they don't even make them anymore? I don't know how fast im going, which IS dangerous and as of today, the 9TH of sept2011, it doesn't work. *tr
I have had my car in the shop for my vehicle running on the very warm side and not cooling itself down. Many things repaired and now it IS doing it again and it IS not even the dead of summer yet! *Tr
Fluid on the ground apparently coming fro the power steering line under the pump. also the vehicles at idling 1000 rpm will stall out. Engine light comes on. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1995 mercury mystique. While adding fuel to the vehicle, she was noticed there was a gas leak. the dealer stated that the part was no longer made and they were unable to assist her. The dealer IS aware of recall, 95v232000 - fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap. She was also advised that it did not apply to her vehicle identification number. updated .*bf
On your web site I have found several recalls on 95 mercury mystique's one IS regarding the ac unit and the wires burning up as well as a floor shifter problem causing the shifter not to indicate the correct gear. I went to friendly ford and they stated to me that my vehicle's vin # was not in the data base as having any recalls. I can assure you that these two issues are in fact occurring in my 95 mystique. I have had it looked at by mechanic's and these two issues are in fact on my car and I need them to be fixed under the recalls. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1995 mercury mystique. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the cooling system was below level and he added antifreeze. several days later, he noticed that all of the antifreeze leaked out and he filled it back up. he checked the cooling system again a week later and the failure recurred. the heating system was also inoperative. the dealer stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as mentioned in nhtsa campaign ID number 00v367000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle has not been repaired. the purchase date was unknown. the failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 38,800.
Wiring harness IS cracked and shorting. *tr
TL*- the contact owns a 1995 mercury mystique with a current odometer reading of 149,000 miles. The contact stated that the wiring insulation cracked and left the wires exposes, which could cause short circuits. the contact stated that there was an owner notification about this problem, but the manufacturer never fixed the vehicle, and the campaign expired. Several electrical items under this problem started to fail. *ak
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, a gas smell was noticed due to a gas leak. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined a gas leak in the filler hose was present. there was a nhtsa recall, # 95v232000, regarding the gas tank filler hose and cap. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.
Dt*: the contact stated, the cover to the seatbelt retractor coil of the driver's side front seat ripped loose. The manufacturer determined the cover was only a decorative cover and not covered by the vehicle warranty. The contact attempted to repair the cover but it did not hold.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine overheated and idled at an elevated level while parked. there IS a nhtsa recall, # 00v367000, regarding the engine. the vehicle was seen by an authorized dealer. the service department suggested replacing the wiring harness that supports the electrical currents of the engine. the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it IS not included in the recall due to the vin.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle temperature gage elevated while driving at normal highway speeds and the engine suddenly shut down. The vehicle had an odor of something burning like plastic. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop. The independent mechanic discovered exposed wires leading to the fan and engine. The radiator was flushed, engine performance enhancer was added, spark plugs were replaced, but the exposed wiring was not repaired. The independent mechanic discovered a recall concerning the fan wiring. The vehicle remained parked for two weeks before it was taken to a local service dealer. The dealer began working on obtaining authorization for the recall remedy, but the manufacturer would not authorize the recall remedy because of the age of the vehicle. the contact IS the second owner of the vehicle, but the original owner did not receive a recall letter. Therefore the vehicle was never taken to a service dealer for repairs. There IS a nhtsa recall, # 00v367000, regarding the engine and engine cooling. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it IS not included in the recall due to the time restrictions of the recall remedy. *nm
Defective wire harness in 1995 mercury mystique.*mr nar incoming document could not be located. *nm
I was told the wiring harness on my 1995 mercury mystique has failed. The car only has 72,000 miles. It started with the traction control and ABS systems failing. It has now spread to the engine and transmission. The car IS now undrivable. My ford dealer told me this failure IS becoming a problem on the ford contour/mercury mystique models. IS there any recourse I can take?*jb
Dt: there IS a problem with the accelerator pedal sticking since june 2005. it happened at least five times. three times it stuck to the floor. there have been no accidents because of this problem. the consumer found that there was a recall on the year, make, and model. when she contacted the manufacture r,they told her that this vehicle not included due to vin. the recall only included vehicles with traction control. *ak
Ford has refused to replace the wiring harness in my 1995 mercury mystique because: the extended warranty for this vehicle expired in jun 2005 (10 years from 'in service' date. I have owned the vehicle since nov 2003 and never received a recall notice. ford states a letter was sent to a previous owner. I cannot verify this and really view it as irrelevant since the harness was never accomplished on this vehicle. IS ford not required to locate and notify subsequent owners of such a recall if the remedy has never been applied to the subject vehicle. surely ford would keep records of remedies applied or not applied? the defective harness has rendered this vehicle completely unuseable, it now sits in the front yard. I cannot afford the repairs on my own (i'm a single mother with a 3 year old). I cannot sell the vehicle in it's present inoperable state. the crux of my complaint IS that I feel ford should have made a diligent effort to locate the owners of vehicles affected and which were not repaired as part of the recall. I have contacted ford customer service by phone and e-mail and they refuse to review the matter further. can you help me?
Lights get very dim when engine cooling fan comes on. I had battery checked by advanced auto parts and it was fine. I found the vehicle had been recalled for a cooling fan issue on the autosite.com website.(campaign # 00v367000).. I called ford recall dept on 8/16/05 & spoke to danielle in toronto canada. After giving her my vin # she said there were no any recalls for this issue expect for 1 to replace the fan fuse which was done 4 years ago according to her. I have owned the car for less then a year. I would like you to check into this. my vin # IS 1melm66lsk610829 1995 mercury mystique V6 2.5 liter. thank you john shehadi. *Jb
The majority of the insulation on the wiring of the engine compartment has become very brittle. Whenever a wire IS touched the insulation falls off. This could cause a fire because some of the wires come directly from the battery. In the last three years I have contacted the ford motor company or repersentative and reported this problem. I never got a response. At the present I cannot afford to replace this vehicle, I will as soon as I can. The wiring needs to be look at by some one. Ten years IS not long, actually it was seven years when I first noticed the insulation problem. *jb
While driving vehicle changes gears. Consumer states vehicle slows down.*ak
Fuel vapor smell. Diagnosed as a failed hose at the top of the fuel tank (between the tank and the vehicle body). Service writer indicated that the problem was caused by flexing between the body and the tank and that, in his opinion, the design did not take the flexing into account sufficiently. There was a fuel leak, and the vehicle would have leaked significant fuel in a roll over.*ak
While backing out of the garage a loud banging noise was heard coming from the rear. driver was able to pull the vehicle back into the garage. then, driver contacted dealer for an appointment. *ak
1995 mercury mystique check engine light related to the 332 service code started coming on randomly around 51K , and now illuminates after vehicle has been driven approximately 1 mile. Car now has 83K but I never received a recall notice regarding this condition. This vehicle's inspection sticker has expired and cannot be inspected in this condition. Pressure feedback sensor, ecu and evr have all been replaced to no avail. *Jb
