If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Vehicle: 2005 Pontiac G6 VIN: [your VIN] Mileage: 185,000 Issue: Sudden **total loss of power steering assist** — **same symptom as NHTSA Recall 14V153000 (GM 14116)**. Recall **was completed years ago**. **Replacement part installed by GM failed in under 5 years**. GM Customer Assistance **refused coverage** under **Special Coverage #14299 (repeat failure after recall)**. Told me “warranties stopped in 2020” — **incorrect**. #14299 covers **repeat failures of recall parts** with **goodwill/safety extensions** beyond 150k miles. This is a **known safety defect** — steering is extremely heavy, nearly caused crash. GM must repair under **federal safety recall obligations**.
I was driving car and went to turn and the steering wheel was very hard to steering. It was as if I had no power to steering. This happed several times without any accidents.
My Transmission failed on me driving on the highway.
SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT on and car has not been in any major accidents requiring an airbag. Also, causes the car horn to not work. Dangerous because if I should happen to get in a major accident the airbag may not deploy, I can not warn cars about to back into me because the horn doesn't work.
The contact owns a 2005 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he became aware that the brake lights had remained illuminated after braking. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control). The VIN was included but had already been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Pontiac G6. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the steering wheel started vibrating and became difficult to turn. Additionally, the steering wheel was turning to the left independently. The contact stated that the power steering warning light and the power train warning light were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle back to the residence. The contact stated that the steering wheel was stuck in a left turn position and would not return to center. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V153000 (Steering) however, the recall was previously completed on the vehicle. There was no further information provided. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 176,000.
My steering wheel started twitching and there's Minimal steering. While driving down the road, the steering wheel twitches with lots of slack and no really control. When you turn the car off and back on power steering comes on in message center on radio and car with wrench on dash comes on and steering wheel gets extremely hard to turn. But if you turn the car on and off again then steering wheel gets loose and twitchy again with no control. Electrical, all my relays and curcuits Have low voltage or high voltage showing on a computer scanner.
A few months ago, I was pulling out of a parking lot and started to brake , but my car was not stopping. I quickly pumped my brakes and then my brakes worked. All my brake lights came on; ABS, BRAKE, TC, Check engine; and car maintenance light all came on. They periodically would go away but would return when it rained, or if the brakes gave out. Brakes have gone out twice, once while driving on freeway. Before this issue, I had taken it to a mechanic as the brake light was on, and the ‘brake fluid’ message was on my dash- the mechanic scanned it and said the BCM was malfunctioning, to take it to the dealership. I knew who bought the car originally off the lot, so I knew the specific dealership it was bought from (gmc dealership). When I called and told them the issue, they said they will not touch my car (exact words). It’s no longer under warranty and that they would not work on the car regardless. I took it to the main GMC dealership in my city, where they said it would cost thousands to diagnose and fix the car properly, even though I told them I knew what the issue was and what part needed replacing. They confirmed my cars issue was what I said it was, but said it would be VERY expensive to replace and fix, so I decided not to repair it (as the price was not what they originally told me). Now that the brakes fail periodically, I started looking around and saw others had similar issues.
my steering comp breaks causeing a driver to lose control
I was driving down the street And I'm about to take that right turn. On The Verge of taking a turn My steering became very hard and I could barely turn the wheel. Luckily that wasn't any uncommon traffic because I had to take the turn wider than expected But was able to pull over. When I got safe to the side of the road, "power steering" was illuminated on my dash. I turn the car off that cracker back up and I was able to get home
I have a 2005 Pontiac G6 that we purchased for our daughter about 4 or 5 years ago. The car has been a great first car and an emergency spare for our family, until recently. I was driving in Oklahoma City in 5 pm rush hour and without any type of warning I had zero and I mean zero power steering, I could not get the car off the highway at all, the steering wheel started shaking rapidly, and jearking from left to right. And as quick as it happened it stopped, I was able to pull over and call my husband back home 5 hours away to come get me and the car. Once I was pulled off the highway, I turned the car off and let it set for about 5 minutes then strated it back up, to witch the steering wheel went back to jerking and shaking, I thought well I have to get this thing off the major interstate worse case it goes crazy and I go down the ditch. I put it in drive and the steering wheel stopped shaking and jerking. I was able to get to a parking lot that was safe to wait the 6 hours for my husband and son to get there. When we got it back home, I had been doing research on this issue and discovered this NHTSA Recall 102442, butt for some reason my Vin number is not included in this recall. So I opted to replace. Number 41 in the fuse box under the hood. At first it seemed to help. So we allowed our son to drive the G6 to a friend's house about 5 miles away, he was on his way home and called saying come get me and the G6, it done it's steering wheel craziness again and I had an accident. With no clue how bad it was we went racing to him. Thankfully our sone was not hurt nor was there any damage to the vehicle. We hauled the car home and it sat for about 6 months. When we found our family needing to have it running. We pulled it out put a new battery in it, changed all the fluids and filters. Car yet again ran like it was new. Then we hit a pot hot in the road at about 4 miles an hour and boom there goes the steering wheel and it's craziness again. Please Help Us
I had called GMC and there was a recall on the power steering but that was opened back in 2014 and was closed the same year I am having problems with mine I had just bought the car from someone else and the car had not been took care of and I have a new born baby that rides n the car and I'm really worried about this
I was driving with my kids from Ohio to wv. Halfway there my steering got super stiff and it was very hard to turn the wheel. Then a light on dashboard of a car with wrench in it came on then the car made ding noise and across radio message center said power steering. I read there was a recall in 2014 for my year make and model of car a 2005 Pontiac G6 but since it's been so long I can't check to see if my vehicle was ever fixed or not. If it was fixed and now has failed again what do I do. When I check Vin it says 0 unfixed I think. I'm at a loss. We could have caused an accident or wrecked ourselves because it just suddenly went out and it took everything I had in me to turn the steering wheel and to get off the road.
On 5-8-22, I, along with my 3 children, were driving from Ohio to west Virginia to visit my mother for mother's day. We were about 5 minutes away from getting on the highway where speed limit would've been 70 mph and multiple vehicles. The road we were on the speed limit was 55 mph but I was coming up to a sharp left turn so I was slowed down to about 35 mph. Before I started to go into the sharp left turn, my steering wheel became very hard to turn and I was like what the heck just happened. As I said that out loud a car symbol with a wrench inside of it popped up on my dash and directly after that light came on there was a ding (like when your trunk is open and you try to drive) and my radio message center said power steering. Luckily I was slowed down to 35 mph for the turn and through all my strength I was able to go through the turn and make it into a little parking lot and also luckily traffic wasn't bad on this road at this time. Had I have been going regular speed limit or had I have been on highway when this happened the results could've been worse. Had I not have had experience driving a vehicle with no power steering ( we own a 75 Chevy Nova I've driven quite a bit and of course there's no power steering in it. Also there's big difference in the nova and when this just happened in my G6. The G6 was way more difficult to steer than our old Nova) if I wouldn't have some experience in that and also been going faster than what I was, I don't think I would've been able to make the turn and would've crashed into a hillside. If I'd have made it to the highway when it happened it could have been a very bad car accident involving more than just my vehicle. I seen a while back there was a recall for this same problem on 2005 Pontiac G6 but when I type in vin number it says 0 unfinished recalls or something like that. Well obviously there's a problem with it and I feel it should be taken care of considering years back there was a recall
The contact owns a 2005 Pontiac G6. The contact stated while driving at 70-75 MPH, the vehicle started misfiring. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued to drive. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and repaired; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic and the failure was associated with the emissions and cooling system. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the check engine warning light illuminated two days later. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 174,000.
Went to get insurance and the recalls were brought to my attention.
The problem hasn't been happening nearly as much in the cold temperatures. I'm experiencing the same issue that was supposed to be recalled. The power steering goes out while I'm driving. I can pull over, restart it and it usually goes away the first start (sometimes more "restarts" are necessary). The steering wheel also twitches or shakes while the car is just idle. I don't move it... just moves while in park. There was a recall for my car for this issue (power steering torque sensor I believe?) and I'm curious why my car is experiencing it now.
Steering wheel rattle, steering moving back & forth, locks on startup and and audible chime is heard. I believe it has something to do with the original recall repair on the steering. Feels unsafe.
I was driving home from work on the highway and I noticed my turn was very easy to the left but hard to turn to the right. A few miles later down the road I could barely move my steering wheel at all and then the message power steering popped up on my information center as my steering wheel locked up as I attempted to make a turn. Unfortunately I had to go over a curb and into a parking lot because of the mishap. I turned the car off and back on and my steering was okay for a while but then it would lock up later again. I did this process twice paying attention to steering to make it home since I was only a mile and a half away.
Sterring wheel IS shaking badly and locks up when driving, on the high and street while in motion.
Electrical power steering unit stopped working while I was driving. It was almost impossible to turn.
TL* the contact owns a 2005 pontiac G6. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10-15 mph, the steering wheel ceased. The vehicle was towed to randy marion buick GMC (13701 statesville rd huntersville, nc 28078) where the failure was diagnosed as steering gear assembly failure. The contact previously received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000 (steering) but was informed by the dealer that the failure was not associated with the recall. The contact was informed that would provide repair for open recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.
My car be driving fine then I hear a dingy song like doors open and shortly after my steering wheel locks up and I am unable to steer my car. I turn engine off and restart it amd most time the steering loosens up amd sometimes it's good for a couple blocks and sometimes it locks up immediately. It's the eps that keeps going off. It's very dangerous happens anytime almost got rearend because of it.
My pontiac has had a leak for 6 yrs basically since I had it and before that. I didn't think nothing of this but after a while of the sunroof leak it causes corrosion on the electrical terminals in the wire harness inside the dash on driver door side. This corrosion cause your car to throw pcm/tac codes : p0601,p0606,o0107. Causes car to complete stall out and go into reduced engine power mode. This can be extremely unsafe. I am not the only one there IS a few hundred people who posted on sites trying to fix the same issue. Please look into this a lot of people don't know about this nhtsa to report recalls.
Car cut off while driving to work.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ13-001 on February 4, 2013 in response to complaints alleging that the brake lights do not operate properly on model year (MY) 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles. Complainants allege that the brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is not depressed, and turn off once the brake pedal is applied. In addition the driver may have difficulty shifting out of PARK, or the cruise control may not engage properly. In response to ODI?s Information Request, General Motors (GM) submitted a significant number of warranty claims and over 1, 100 reports that potentially relate to the alleged problem. ODI is continuing its analysis of this data. One of the GM reports also alleged a vehicle crash. ODI has received a total of 314 complaints, one alleging a crash.Based on the agency's current analysis, ODI has upgraded its investigation to an Engineering Analysis (EA13-005) to determine whether the subject vehicles present a safety related defect trend, and to further evaluate scope. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
Gm notified the agency by letter dated january 28, 2009, that it will conduct a safety recall of pontiac G6 vehicles built from january 3 through january 31, 2005.vehicles produced during this time period have shown a highly elevated incident rate of improper operation of the brake lamps. Odi opened this investigation after receiving reports that consumers would use their brakes and discover that the brake lamps would not illuminate.also, consumers report that the brake lamps would illuminate when the brake pedal was not applied.odi's review of the complaint data finds that the complaint rate for the january 2005 production IS 20 times greater than for the remainder of the subject vehicle population.likewise, the warranty rate for the january 2005 production IS 11 times greater than for the remainder of the subject vehicle population.in its letter to the nhtsa, general motors (gm) explained that the primary cause of this brake condition was fretting corrosion (oxidation) of the connector pins on the body control module (bcm) that connect to the to the brake pedal position sensor (bpps).the corrosion prevents the bcm from receiving the correct signal voltage from the bpps.in december 2008, gm released technical service bulletin (tsb) #08-05-22-009 to provide technicians the correct repair procedures for subject vehicles that experience improper illumination of the brake lamps.this action taken by gm IS sufficient to resolve the issues raised by this investigation.
During this investigation, general motors (gm) indicated that approximately 15,600 model year (my) 2005 pontiac G6 vehicles built from november 3, 2004 through january 5, 2005 may experience a loss of power steering assist due to an insufficient crimp at the torque and position sensor transducer located in the steering column assembly. Gm has indicated that it plans to send letters to the owners of these vehicles to inform them that it will extend the warranty coverage for the eps system in their vehicles to 7 years or 70,000 miles.statistical analysis of the failures in the population affected by the wiring crimp problem indicate that the problem IS an early life failure that should occur within the terms of the extended coverage.gm's investigation of eps failures in the subject vehicles identified a problem with the connector crimps during the two month production range covered by the warranty extension.during this period the crimps may be asymmetrical, resulting ininadequate pressure on the wire that can lead to electrical noise in the signal from the sensor to the controller.the controller may interpret this electrical noise as a malfunction of the system and default to manual mode (i.e., turn off the eps system).if the power steering assist IS lost, the driver information center (dic) displays a power steering warning message, a chime IS sounded, andthe service vehicle soon light will illuminate.in manual mode the steering requires increased effort, especially at speeds less than 20 miles per hour (mph).odi's analysis of the failure data show that approximately 30 percent of the complaints and field reports (569 of 1913) involve vehicles built in the range covered by gm's extended policy, which account for only about 7 percent of the subject vehicle population.the complaint rate for the non-peak months IS relatively high, at 673 per 100,000 vehicles.the rate for the peak months IS 5 times higher at 3,645 per 100,000 vehicles.similar differences are evident in the warranty data, with approximately 27 percent of the eps warranty claims (1120 of 4145) involving vehicles built in the peak months.the warranty rate for the non-peak months IS 1.5% and the rate for the peak months IS 7.2%.odi identified 9 crashes that are potentially related to eps system failure in the subject vehicles.the crashes occurred at low speeds, such as driveway and parking lot type maneuvers.the crashes resulted in one alleged injury, but odi was unable to obtain information about the type or severity of the injury.none of the crashes involve vehicles built in the two month period covered by gm's extended warranty coverage.the subject vehicles use the same eps system as the my 2004 chevrolet malibu vehicles investigated by odi in ea04-018.although the failure rates are high in this investigation, particularly for the peak months, they are significantly lower than for the malibu vehicles investigated in ea04-018.as in those vehicles, the effects on steering effort are small at speeds greater than 15-20 mph.accordingly, this investigation IS closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will continue to monitor complaints and information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted.
