Vehicle was inoperable and over 100F in our driveway, with a flashing "critical high voltage battery fault". My wife injured her hand attempting to get in the vehicle. The service center has claimed that moisture inside the HVAC system caused the High Voltage (HV) battery system to fail, throwing a critical high-voltage battery fault. Rivian is attempting to deny warranty coverage based on this moisture. Linkage to Warranted Component: At 85,690 miles, my vehicle is fully covered under Rivian’s 8-year High Voltage Battery Limited Warranty. The critical high-voltage fault and subsequent component failures were directly caused by water entering the electrical/battery system. Proximate Cause via Known Manufacturing Defect: Rivian has an active Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) regarding moisture ingress via the HVAC assembly for 2022–2024 R1S models. The moisture that caused the battery fault is a documented, inherent design defect of the vehicle, not user negligence or external environmental damage. An inherent defect in an out-of-warranty system cannot be used to void coverage for a failure it causes inside a component that is still heavily protected by an active warranty. The photograph provided by the service center does not depict superficial 'moisture in the HVAC' causing external damage. It shows severe fluid ingress and terminal corrosion inside the Woory Industrial High Voltage Cabin Heater assembly. Because this is an internal, high-voltage powertrain component operating directly off the traction battery system, it falls squarely under Rivian's 8-year / 175,000-mile High Voltage System Warranty. The corrosion present on the high-voltage circuit board is a direct result of the factory HVAC water ingress defect acknowledged in Rivian's technical service bulletins for 2022-2024 R1S vehicles. A manufacturing defect that allows water to breach a sealed, high-voltage housing cannot be used to deny warranty coverage on a high-voltage system that is actively w

All sensors failed. Once vehicle was parked completely and seatbelt was removed, the car automatically took off. It began accelerating on its own, full throttle (Rivian logs were retrieved to show this), then began crashing into multiple cars while still gaining speed. Logs also show that the breaks were applied during this time, but the accelerator was still engaged at full throttle. The car then launched itself into a light post. The car was able to clear the 2-3ft concrete base of the post and the metal beam crashed into the glass roof of the car (which was shattered and thankfully the surfboard racks prevented it from fully crashing into the vehicle - but the racks are completely crushed), the metal post then launched itself into two more vehicles as well as the car itself. Airbag was not deployed at any point, car was going over 30 mph when it finally stopped (the concrete base likely pierced the battery to make the car stop). Logs didn't even note that there was a crash and the vehicle is totaled. We have salvage holding off on destruction so that the EDR can be salvaged and retrieved.

In the R1S, there is a crossmember for the 3rd row seating. On low VIN vehicles, there appears to be a trend, including mine personally, that have crossmember bolts that were mis-installed during assembly and have disconnected the threaded inserts from the body and remain unscrewed and loose. This is a primary mounting point used to secure the seating in the vehicle. The service center confirmed that this has occurred and a video was provided to Rivian when requesting repair. (This video is no longer accessible in the app) Rivian's stance is that contrary to online reports of similar issues on low VIN R1S vehicles and mine, this is caused by the end user. Given the number of occurrences, this appears to be a faulty installation issue from unskilled labor.

Passenger airbag sensor does not detect passenger reliably. My 13 year old son and my wife both have issues. They are both over 120 lbs, so I think they should trigger the sensor. I have had it serviced for this issue, but it did not fix the problem. It also will detect a person in the seat during a drive and turn off later in that same trip without stopping the car. It seems to me that the sensor needs to be more sensitive. And, once it detects a person in the seat, it should keep the airbag on until the car is stopped and door opened. My wife does not feel safe in the car as it stands now.

When I am driving, my passenger sometimes does not trigger the airbag to activate. Depending on how they are sitting, many times the passenger airbag is set to "off" because it can not detect a passenger. The Rivian service center has investigated and mentioned there is no problem and that the passenger needs to sit more upright, but this still seems like a safety issue if we are driving and fail to notice that the passenger airbag is not activated

On Monday, December 11, 2023 Myself, my girlfriend, and our two dogs were headed across the I-182 bridge coming out of Pasco, WA to Richland, WA. We were in the far left or center lane (I am not sure which). The highway is three lanes each way. We were at highway speed (the speed limit is 70 mph). About ¾ of the way across the bridge, the vehicle felt like all 4 wheels locked. The vehicle then skidded, turned 90 degree towards the concrete bridge barrier. We struck the bridge barrier nearly head on. The vehicle then rotated off the barrier and landed upright in the far right lane. Airbags fully deployed. There were numerous witnesses who reported seeing what looked like the vehicle’s wheels lock and then the events as described. No other cars were impacted. About 20 minutes prior to the crash I commented that the vehicle alignment was off. I had to keep the wheel at 10:00 or 11:00 for the vehicle to travel straight. I found that odd as the vehicle alignment was fine prior to that. Everyone walked away from the accident although both us were injured.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received two Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) reporting left rear toe link separation in certain Model Year (MY) 2023-2024 Rivian R1S vehicles. Both VOQs report component separation while driving, causing the vehicles to swerve across multiple lanes of traffic. One incident resulted in a collision with an adjacent vehicle and roadside barrier. In both separations, the bolt that maintains the integrity of the toe link fractured. Evidence collected from the complaint vehicles included repair histories, onboard video, imagery of the damaged components, and a police accident report. The two vehicles with reported separation have different vehicle histories. One vehicle received prior service and the other was involved in a previous collision. In both instances, the vehicles operated for multiple months and thousands of miles of usage with no apparent problems between the previous service or the previous collision and the failures that prompted this investigation. Rivian recognized the subject toe link joint’s sensitivity to service procedures in March of 2025 in its updated service procedures. In January 2026 through recall 26V-003, Rivian extended the improved repair procedure to vehicles that received toe link service prior to the March 2025 improvement. ODI is opening a Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to (1) assess the sensitivity of the rear toe link joint to foreseeable road and service conditions, (2) compare the physical failure evidence from the two VOQs to identify apparent similarities and potential differences, (3) evaluate Rivian’s current toe link repair procedure, and (4) assess the in-field subject population’s toe links conditions. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov

- 10245651Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 and 2023 R1S and R1T vehicles that may have been built with a suspect auxiliary air compressor control panel. Due to a supplier quality issue, the display may show inaccurate pressure readings of approximately +/- 10%. If the compressor is used to fill the tires, slightly inaccurate pressure readings may result in slightly overinflated or slightly underinflated tires but will not affect the performance of the vehicle. Tire pressures will be accurately measured by the TPMS and shown in the driver display. Rivian will replace the auxiliary air compressor control panel with an upgraded component. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10241957Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have been delivered with a tire sealant kit that is prone to leaking. A leaking tire sealant kit may stain or damage the other components inside the auxiliary air compressor kit. Additionally, the reduced volume of remaining sealant may not be sufficient to seal larger holes in a damaged tire, which the customer would determine when following the instructions in the owner's guide or on the tire sealant kit. Rivian will replace the tire sealant kit or, if the tire sealant kit is already leaking, will replace the entire auxiliary air compressor kit. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10240312Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have been built with drive units that have fastener threads on a plug sealing surface which may result in damage to the plug o-ring and an inadequate sealing surface. This condition could allow drive unit fluid to leak from the drive unit. Fluid leaking from the drive unit may be noticeable to the customer (though any potential leak would be a very small amount that would not impact other road users). If the leaking occurs over an extended period of time, it may lead to a decreased life for the drive unit and eventual failure of the drive unit. A failure of a drive unit will result in a reduced performance safe-state mode and a corresponding indicator light will illuminate on the driver display. Rivian will inspect each drive unit on all affected vehicles and will either install a new drive unit plug with an enlarged washer to ensure proper sealing or replace the drive unit. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles. Note: This document supersedes RCA-38-23-003-1. Revision 2 updates the minimum volume of drained fluid required to replace the front drive unit.
- 10240310Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have been built with excessive clearance space between the halfshafts and wheel hubs. In some instances, this may result in a brief noise coming from the front and/or rear of the vehicle when accelerating or decelerating that is noticeable to the customer but would not result in any changes in the performance of the vehicle. Rivian will install washers on both the front and rear halfshafts to remove the excess clearance and eliminate the noise. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles. Note: This document supersedes RCA-38-23-002-1. Revision 2 reduces the labor required to access the halfshafts.
- 10240309Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1S and R1T vehicles that may have been built with inadequate press fit force between the halfshaft splines and the wheel hubs. In some instances, this condition may result in a loss of torque of the halfshaft bolt and subsequent noise and/or separation of the bolt and wheel center cap. Without this bolt there may be additional movement of the components and/or noise but there will be no resulting changes in the performance of the vehicle. Rivian will replace the halfshaft bolts and torque them to a higher specification to improve the press fit force and bolt retention. In addition, washers will be installed on the halfshafts to reduce potential noise. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles. Note: This document supersedes RCA-38-23-001-1. Revision 2 reduces the labor required to access the halfshafts.

Rivian will replace the onboard charger. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10235683Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 and 2023 R1T and R1S vehicles. On these vehicles, the steering wheel may not be properly aligned to the steering rack. This condition is noticeable to the customer but would not result in any changes in the performance of the vehicle. Rivian will inspect the steering wheel alignment and, if necessary, realign the components. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10235545Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 and 2023 R1S vehicles that may have been built with the incorrect interior audio amplifier. This results in reduced audio volume or quality for passengers in the 3rd row seat. Rivian will replace the amplifier on all affected vehicles. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10235544Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have been built with excessive clearance space between the halfshafts and wheel hubs.
- 10235543Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1S and R1T vehicles that may have been built with inadequate press fit force between the halfshaft splines and the wheel hubs.
- 10233828Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have been built with drive units that have fastener threads on a plug sealing surface which may result in damage to the plug o-ring and an inadequate sealing surface.
- 10232188Rivian is launching a technical service bulletin for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles that are equipped with early production versions of the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) front door fixed glass moldings. In some situations, the molding may become separated from the fixed glass, resulting in excessive wind noise and a perceived quality issue. Upon customer complaint of the molding separating from the fixed glass, or complaint of excessive wind noise from the front glass area, Rivian will perform this bulletin to upgrade the affected components for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10228727Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles. On these vehicles, the automatic adjustment of the steering wheel and seats to the customers preferred positions may become disabled due to a system incompatibility with a recent software update. Under this condition customers may need to position their steering wheel and seat manually. If the automatic adjustment functionality is lost, the driver will receive a notification on the center display indicating that the automatic seat and steering adjustment features are not available. Rivian will re-enable the automatic adjustment functionality through a software recalibration. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
- 10228725Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022 R1S vehicles that were built with 3rd row seat backrests that may be prone to cosmetic damage when excessive weight is placed on the backrests in the folded down position. Rivian will replace the 3rd row seat backrests with upgraded components. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.
