5 recalls name the 2008 Saturn Sky. Newest first.
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. The Passenger Air Bag Suppression System (PPS) sensor may become bent or damaged within the front passenger seat, possibly disabling the front passenger air bag.
In the event of a crash, if the front passenger air bag does not deploy as intended, the front passenger has an increased risk of injury.
The remedy for this recall is still under development. A permanent remedy is currently under development. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 17036.
UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original…
If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. GM vehicle owners requiring additional information on that recall campaign should contact GM at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac) or 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn).
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on February 10, 2014 that they are recalling 619,122 model…
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Owners of 2008 and later vehicles will be mailed an interim letter on April 21, 2014. All affected owners will receive another letter once parts are available. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for the initial recall is 13454 and 14063 for the expansion. GMs recall number for the vehicles that may have received the replacement parts is 14092. Note: Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Always wear your seatbelt.
Certain passenger vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 207, "seating systems." and standard no. 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages." these vehicles may have one to four inboard seat stud fasteners that do not meet specification for strength.
In the event of a crash, the seat and seat belt assembly may not restrain the occupant as intended and could result in injury to the occupant.
Dealers will inspect the inboard seat studs and, if necessary, remove the stud and install a bolt free of charge. the recall began on october 10, 2007. owners may contact pontiac at 1-800-620-7668 and saturn at 1-800-972-8876.
the passenger seat air bag sensor was recalled. I took the car to dealer and they said they fixed the recall. now 3 years later, if a passenger sits in the seat the light comes on saying air bag sensor is ON one second later the light says the air bag sensor is OFF and the red air bag light in the dash comes on. -Should GM be responsible to repair it again at no charge ?
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the module kit, the OCS sensor, and the four retainers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V061000 (Air Bags); however, the vehicle had experienced the failure stated in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
2008 saturn sky the key keeps getting stuck and cannot remove unless manual button under steering wheel is pushed and pull the key at same time only way to release key now Is anyone else having problem is there a recall?
Had recall# 17036 performed for PPS system and dealer could not clear fault codes after adding tape to the PPS seat. Why will the dealer not complete the recall by making sure the faults are no longer present. 1- 004A-00 Communication fault 2- 0033-00 Internal electronic performance 1 3- 0031-00 Internal electronic performance 2 4- 0039-00 Internal electronic performance 1 5- 0034-00 Internal electronic performance 1 6- 0059-00 Preload failure region 1
Saturn SKY - Passenger presence system (PPS) Knapp Chevy claimed to have fixed Completed: 2020-10-31, but warning lights appeared and took the car in to check. Now, this issue is not covered and requires a 1200 dollar charge, which should be covered in the recall.
When pressing on the brakes in reverse, they fail to stop the resistance is very hard, like stepping on a brick, and it does nothing to slow the vehicle. I had to throw the emergency brake on and put the car in gear in order to stop it from rolling backwards.
unknown
reset air bags 7/22
Passenger presence seat sensor stop working and disabled passenger air bags due to issue from previous recall that was supposed to be fix.
During a low voltage condition the programming for the TPMS and security features was lost. 2ND time it happened. dealer says it IS a design problem that requires software update. I paid once for the update but the problem persists.
This light comes on and off random. Been doing this since I had the car. In many forums there IS a lot of the same complaints
I am trying to replace the turbocharged unit but all 3 purchase had an internal crack. IS this a common problem unknown by consumers? Should I be worried that this problem will continue?
Instrument panel lights are not illuminated during daytime, making it difficult to see the speedometer, gas gauge, etc. This IS true whether the car IS in motion or not. the instrument panel lights should be on whenever the ignition switch IS on.
When first starting engine in the morning or after vehicle sits for a bit, the breaks literally do not work. this IS a known problem across the internet and one that nobody at the service department at any dealership has a clue how to fix. if my car rolls into the street of my steep inclined driveway? I'm dead. It happens every day. The attachment IS one of thousands.
This IS a continuation of the description of the "TPMS system inoperative" for the same vin. when the vehicle battery IS replaced as part of normal maintenance the TPMS system fails to work. this problem has been acknowledged by general motors in bulletin 08-03-16-001b. furthermore, the TPMS system failure IS not indicated to the driver through any warning indicator. the driver would be unaware of a tire with low pressure in this situation, potentially resulting in harm.
The 2008 saturn sky has a safety defect whereby the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) becomes inoperative during general maintenance. the tire pressure display will not display any tire pressure data while the vehicle IS stationary or moving. When the vehicle battery IS replaced the rcdlr (remote control door lock lock receiver module) loses its keyless entry transmitter and tire pressure monitoring data. The rcdlr will no longer receive data from the tire pressure sensors in each tire rendering the system inoperative. Since vehicle battery replacement IS a normal maintenance item I do not believe this safety system (TPMS) should become inoperative when performing that maintenance task. general motors IS aware of the condition and has authored bulletin #08-03-16-001b to correct the issue at owner expense. I believe the failure of this safety system should be covered by a recall.
TL* the contact owns a 2008 saturn sky. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the front passenger's air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was informed that the air bags sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was diagnosed and repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 25,000. *bf*jb
Took vehicle in for recall on passenger presence sensor. recall #17036. now, vehicle displays a airbag warning light. it had never displayed a warning light prior to recall.
Airbag warning light came on. we bought vehicle 8/21/2018 with 26639 miles. We took it to gm dealer to have new key fob programed and they told us about the recall and we took it in for that which the warning light had never came on before they worked on it and now it has.
TL* the contact owns a 2008 saturn sky. The contact stated after getting his vehicle remedied for a recall nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags) back in october 2018 the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer automotive masters 3815 washington rd, augusta, ga 30907 for a diagnosis. The diagnosis was 2036 1063 pps assembly shorted internally. The manufacturer was made aware but stated the failure IS outside of the 12 month warranty. The failure mileage was 70,000. *Ln
TL* the contact owns a 2008 saturn sky. While driving various speeds, the coolant warning indicator illuminated. The contact mentioned that coolant was added to the vehicle every two days. An independent mechanic stated that the coolant system needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to harry green chevrolet nissan (1858 e pike st, clarksburg, wv 26301) where they flushed the coolant system. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted again. The vehicle was taken back to the harry green dealer where it was diagnosed that the thermostat and thermostat housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and was taken to an independent mechanic where the cause of the failure was undetermined. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning, oil was leaking from the vehicle, and the coolant was not in the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic where they stated that the oil pressure needed to be repaired, the valve timing was not in sync with the piston, and the intake cam shaft was over advanced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2008 saturn sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit, which was a safety concern. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000(air bags) by conklin chevrolet salina (2700 s 9TH st, salina, ks 67401). The manufacturer was notified and stated that GMC would cover the remedy; however, the parts were unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. **tr consumer stated with regard to the complaint ref. #11123833 and paperwork/ questionnaire, I have called the vsh hotline today (ref.1272456) to report that the repair was completed on my vehicle 9/18/2018 and the charges made the dealership refunded. Gm recall 17036 - passenger airbag sensor defect. My sensor failed on 6/8/2018. The local dealer confirmed the failure and ordered parts under the recall on 6/15/2018. As of today, 7/18/2018, the part IS still not available and no eta IS provided. Gm refuses to reimburse me if I have the vehicle repaired or provide them with a genuine gm part for them to provide the repair. this IS a recall that IS not being addressed by gm and I am left with an unsafe car and no eta on repair.
I have been trying to complete my recall for 2 months now, and am told by all dealers that parts are not available from gm to make the recalled repairs. I consider this to be a situation in which the recall IS not actually effective, and am making this notation to ensure that appropriate parties are held liable in the even that any damages result from gm's inability to execute this recall as required.
Please see attachments, bottom line, despite recall (17036-01: safety recall ' passenger presence system ' 2006-2010 pontiac solstice & 2007-2010 saturn sky) on passenger airbag sensing module, gm IS refusing to honor the recall and its conditions.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has completed its review of a Defect Petition received December 12, 2019 requesting an investigation into the possibility of passenger compartment fires attributed to overheating HVAC blower motor connectors in Model Years (MY) 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky vehicles. An analysis of General Motors (GM) complaint data and information in NHTSA?s databases identified thirteen unique vehicle identification numbers (VINs) with reported incidents that could pertain to blower motor overheating, smoking, or melting in the 90,938 MY2006-2010 Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice vehicles produced. Two of the thirteen cited incidents reported smoke and thermal damage that may be attributed to the HVAC blower motor although neither incident was confirmed through vehicle inspection. One incident, a MY2008 Saturn Sky with substantial field exposure from a frontal collision, could not have the root cause identified. The other, a MY2007 Pontiac Solstice, did not inform the manufacturer nor take the vehicle to a dealer for evaluation. Most of the 13 incidents reported an overheated or discolored connector with attendant loss of HVAC blower fan function. GM reported 354 warranty claims with the subject components for the Sky and Solstice, none of which included a report of fire and only one report of smoke. Over a period of ten to fourteen years in service, there are two reports of smoke or thermal damage. While the subject Sky and Solstice vehicles and the recalled Hummer H3 and H3T vehicles do share common components, the Sky and Solstice vehicles have demonstrated very different behavior and their HVAC system has a lower power draw than the recalled Hummer H3 and H3T vehicles. The recalled H3 and H3T vehicles generate over triple the failure rate of the Sky and Solstice vehicles. GM suggested in its response to the ODI?s information request that this difference was due to the larger interior volume of a recalled Hummer vehicle imposing a heavier electrical load and duty cycle on its HVAC blower. The duty cycle is defined as how long it takes for the vehicle to cool down enough before the HVAC blower motor fan speed is lowered or turned off completely.Additionally, due to the size differential between the Sky and Solstice vehicles and the recalled Hummer H3 and H3T vehicles, the parts have a different power draw. The Sky and Solstice vehicles, due to their smaller size, draw less wattage, which reduces the likelihood of a thermal event. This condition in the Sky and Solstice vehicles typically leads to an inoperable HVAC blower motor as opposed to a thermal event.Despite the commonality of parts in the Sky and Solstice vehicles with those that were the basis of a safety recall, the subject vehicles have not demonstrated a safety defect trend that would likely lead to a safety recall or merit further investigation by the ODI. The subject vehicles have a low rate of reported thermal events over the ten to fourteen years they have been in service with the most recent occurring in 2017 with no confirmed fires. The HVAC blower motor was not confirmed to be the root cause for either thermal event cited above. After thoroughly assessing the material submitted by the petitioner, information already in NHTSA?s possession, information submitted by GM in response to an information request, and the potential risks to safety implicated by the petitioner?s allegation, NHTSA does not believe that the petition warrants a formal investigation at this time. Consequently, the petition is denied. The entire petition denial can be viewed in the October 14, 2022 Federal Register under DP20-002.(https://www.f
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition requesting the opening of an investigation into the air bag system on model year 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky, the subject vehicles. The petitioner raised the issue of failure of the Passenger Sensing System for the front passenger seating position. On January 26, 2017, General Motors filed a defect information report recalling the subject vehicles to address the issue raised by the petition. In view of the recall, ODI considers the petition moot and is closing the action. The closing of the petition does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist, and the agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
In model year (my) 2007, pontiac solstice and saturn sky vehicles equipped with the 2.0L turbocharged engine used an auxiliary vacuum pump to supplement the engine as a source of vacuum to the brake booster during low vacuum conditions, such as immediately after a cold start.the vacuum pump operation was controlled by switches that sensed booster vacuum, turning the pump on when booster vacuum dropped below a specified level.in the my 2008 solstice and sky vehicles (the subject vehicles), general motors (gm) eliminated the auxiliary vacuum pump and replaced it with the optimized hydraulic braking (ohb) system.the design intent of ohb IS to supplement engine vacuum, in conditions where low vacuum IS generated by the engine, with hydraulic pressure generated by the stability control system pump controlled by the electronic brake control module (ebcm). For up to about aminute after a cold start, when the system IS in ohb assist mode, the driver must press harder on the brake pedal to achieve desired deceleration.also, when the ohb mode IS activated, the driver can hear and feel, through brake pedal vibration, the stability control system pump operation.starting in late april 2008, gm changed from the ohb system back to the vacuum pump system design.odi IS aware of 264 non-duplicative complaints to odi and gm alleging inadequate brake power assist in the subject vehicles when applying the brakes just after a cold start, including one incident involving a crash into a tree during a driveway maneuver.to address these concerns by consumers, gm has issued threetechnical service bulletins.on june 4, 2007, gm released an informational bulletin (no part replacement or software updates), bulletin# 07-05-22-002, to dealers explaining the functionality of the ohb system.on november 29, 2007, gm released a service bulletin, bulletin# 07-05-22-007, with instructions to recalibrate the ebcm with revised software to make ohb operation feel more like a normal vacuum assist system.to improve cold start braking performance comparable to my 2007 vehicles, gm released a third service bulletin in two parts, bulletins 07-05-25-007a (april 29, 2008) and 07-05-25-007b (may 16, 2008), for automatic and manual transmission vehicles respectively.these bulletins released new engine control software to change the idle strategy after a cold start so that more vacuum IS available for brake power assist.beginning the week of june 23, 2008, gm will begin sending letters to consumers to make them aware of the availability of most recent calibration.a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.the agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
