On certain trailers equipped with bendix SR-2, SR-4, and SR-5 trailer spring brake valve assemblies, the molded rubber face of the inlet/exhaust valve (i/e valve) component of the affected valves can separate from the valve's metal insert. air can be trapped by a separated i/e valve causing it to balloon and block the exhaust passage of the trailer spring…
This condition can result in the affected vehicles being unable to apply the trailer parking/emergency spring brakes during parking in the event of a trailer supply line failure. unintended rollaway could occur, possibly resulting in personal injury or death to the vehicle occupant or any bystanders.
Bendix will notify customers and provide a repair kit and installation instructions free of charge. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact bendix at 440-329-9000 or strick at 704-436-2441.
Vehicle description: trailers equipped with maxibrake I actuators, type 20, type 24, type 30, and type 36. these brake actuators do not have an overstroke indicator. this does not comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 121, "air brake systems."

Tl*the contact owns a stehl tow car dolly. the contact was utilizing the dolly on bumpy roads. he looked at the straps and noticed that one of them had become completely loose. he suspected that the design of the locking system was very poor, which caused the straps to loosen. the manufacturer offered to repair or replace the dolly. the contact felt that it was a serious safety issue because the vehicle could detach from the dolly at 60 mph. the vin and mileages were unknown.

Odi opened this investigation based on a fleet complaint where information was furnished indicating that wheel bearings were failing at an unusually high rate.in 29 cases these failures allegedly resulted in a wheel end fire or a wheel separation.during the investigation it was determined that the subject vehicles were built with low maintenance wheel ends.documents obtained by odi indicate that widespread confusion existed in this industry concerning maintenance requirements.the issues were:frequency of maintenance, amount of grease to be used, and proper method of inspection.several meetings were held involving the axle manufacturer, (arvinmeritor), lubrication manufacturer (mobil), several trailer manufacturers and fleets.currently odi has data which indicates that 255 trailers from a certain build period have wheel ends failing at a higher rate than peer trailers with the same wheel ends.odi IS upgrading this investigation to determine why the one group IS failing at a higher rate than others with the same wheel ends.in order to resolve this matter, odi will be contacting the axle manufacturer, the bearing and grease manufacturers, fleets and will further investigate the issue with strick directly.
