P/s dashboard red light came on with sudden loss of steering assist while turning and driving. Luckily the car IS light, but I could have easily hit an object, had it happened in a different location or at a different speed. Problem disappeared by itself. Two weeks thereafter, an extremely strong burned electrical circuitry smell suddenly filled the vicinity of the car, could be felt from about 10 feet away, while idling, while stopped for approximately 30 seconds with front wheels turned to the right about half-way, as I was checking my mail box upon entering driveway. A low pitch whining/droning noise was emanating from under the hood while the car was idling. The noise and odor persisted after the steering was set at 0 degree angle and after the car was parked. No p/s dashboard warning light came on. No loss of steering assist. No visible sign of smoke, fire, or melted plastic in engine compartment fuse box. Wire harnesses looked intact. Suspect eps - electric power steering motor. Outside temperature about 85OF. Car driven for just 3 miles on that day, side street driving only, never over 35 mph. Ac fan on full blast, headlights off. Car had difficulty accelerating upon depressing the gas pedal on same day, prior to aforementioned incident.

Tamara recall in 2015 I was sold a 2007 toyota yaris hatchback. August 10, 2017 I was notified of a possibly deadly defect in the car that toyota has known about for several years before my car was sold to me. The fact the auto manufacturer chose to put my family's lives in jeopardy, and IS actually responsible for the deaths of others, instead of immediately notifying every comsumer, because they didn't want to eat the cost of of the massive recall, IS unacceptably immoral behavior. I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle. I will no longer be purchasing a car from these companies, and I will seek a full refund on the price I paid for the car, and will shop elsewhere. They knew about it and continued to make and sell them. The safety of the consumer IS more important than company profits.

Takata recall received written authorization from corporate toyota to undergo a zone a takata recall repair. my local service dealership - dunning toyota in ann arbor, michigan (734-997-7600) at a scheduled appointment refused to perform recall because they reside in zone c of the recall, despite having written authorization, it being an urgent safety issue and there being confirmed local availability of the airbag replacement part. service manager ([xxx]) and general manager ([xxx]) fail to return repeated phone calls to address issue. subsequent contact with corporate toyota revealed dunning toyota of ann arbor fraudulently reported in the national toyota system that they had performed the recall repair, which prevents me from going to another dealership. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

It has been over six months since I was notified that my front passenger air bag component needs repaired/replaced (this IS due to the takata airbag inflators). In the meantime, nobody IS able to sit in the front passenger seat. This IS a major inconvenience, especially given the smaller size of the model of the car - losing one passenger seat makes a difference, especially for an adult who would normally sit there instead of the back! We have had to adjust how our family travels for over six months. I feel that this issue needs to be corrected immediately or we should be provided with a comparable, *fully usable* vehicle in the meantime.

"Takata recall" - I live in san antonio, texas which IS designated climate zone 2A humid. It has been six months since toyota sent me a letter informing me of a recall of my car due to the passenger air bag. In the letter, it stated that in a hot, humid climate such as ours, the takata airbag would be expected to begin deteriorating about six years after manufacture and be totally deteriorated by nine years. I didn't get the letter until nine years after purchasing the car. It's like toyota saying, "guess what, the passenger air bag in your car IS likely totally deteriorated now, so we recommend your not carrying any passengers until we get around to replacing your air bag." I've been driving my wife and other family members around quite often since we've bought the yaris, and now I'm just finding out it was dangerous for them to be riding as a passenger for the past four years, and especially now. I'm angry and disappointed that it took toyota so long to inform me of this problem and especially more so when I think I was gambling with my family's safety every time we were using the passenger seat. I want to get my air bag replaced now or find out how I can disable the air bag. I will also accept getting a similar model loaner car with passenger side air bags no older than two years old. The date indicated in the form below IS the date of this particular recall being issued.

Takata recall I have been waiting to hear when I can bring in my car to be fixed. I got the notice in march, & check this site, plus the toyota recall site for updates. I find it concerning that there has not been any notice still to get my car fixed for this problem. It has been seven months, and that IS far too long for an issue with airbags to be unfixed. as far as I have seen, my vehicle's fix IS not ready at this time.

All 3 lanes stopped to let me pass and as I was turning left another car was driving in the bike lane at 45mph and with out touching their brakes slammed into my car throwing me a few feet. when I got out of the car I noticed my airbags didn't deploy. I remember there being a recall on them and larry h miller did no have the parts they needed so they told me they would not fix the problem. If that other drive was going 4-5 mph faster my son and I could be dead do to no airbags. It just worried me for them not deploying when the other drivers their airbags deployed just fine.

Clunking noise heard during vehicle operation over roadway bumps or application of brakes. Inspected to find front lower control arm bolt corroded and cracked. this bolt IS located at the rear of this control arm and passes through the subframe. Bolt head and portion of shank was missing due to corrosion and fatigue failure. Lower control arm was loose, posing an unsafe operation condition. Toyota has an existing tsb on this issue. I brought my vehicle to a certified mechanic and paid repair costs out of pocket. Subframe removed, portion of bolt extracted and replaced. this issue needs to be re-evaluated for a recall possibility. *Tr

Experienced failure of emissions evap system due to water intrusion through poorly designed components. Check engine lamp (cel) illuminated constant on during highway travel. Stored dtcs of p043e, p043f, p2401, p2402, and p2419. Internet search reveled existing issue in tsb eg048-07 which notes water enters filler pipe cover, contaminates canister filter, then damages the evap pump located in charcoal canister. Repair requires an updated filler cover ($6), replacement of filter ($50), new canister ($600), plus 0.5HR of labor charges. Applicable warranty IS 3year/36000miles. During repair replaced filler cover, filter, then cleaned entire system of water. Note: this yaris was already built using the updated filler cover p/n. Yaris failed the following test drive done in attempt to avoid expensive canister replacement. Followed toyota service manual to troubleshoot canister which lead to permanent damage. Three bolts attach the pump valve to the canister via plastic threaded inserts. These inserts stripped inside the plastic, rendering the canister unusable. Replacing with new canister and retesting for repair. This portion of the emissions system IS related to a mandated requirement. This failure should be covered under the longer term emissions warranty period and not this shorter term period. Failure of a $6 component resulting in victim failures of $650 in additional components IS irritating to the consumer and irresponsible of the manufacturer. Customer has already noted that this event will affect (negatively) future vehicle purchase decisions. Note: this failure does not seem to affect mpg or operation but does illuminate the cel. Consumers might operate w/o repair which will condition them to accept an illuminated cel. They might not be notified of other obd malfunctions and partially disabled emissions control system. *tr

I asked why it had happened and they did not know. The repair was around $600. Today, I heard about the recall for air bag lights coming on in the yaris and I called the corporate toyota headquarters and was told the recall does not cover my car because it did not have a "7 channel spiral cable," even though the repair to my car was for the spiral channel. I am concerned that not all yaris' are being included in the recall and that my car IS not safe. (As of now, they do not even have a fix for the 7-channel spiral channel recall.) *tr

12/21/13: the weather conditions were 35F and raining. After a trip of about 8 miles my car was parked outside for a couple hours. Upon starting the car for my return trip I noticed that the dash indicators for ABS and brake were lit and remained lit through the duration of my trip of about 8 miles. These indicators have never done this before. 12/22/13: (next day) when I started the car the indicators were again lit and remained lit. However, after driving a couple miles I noticed that the indicators were no longer lit. research has indicated a known issue with the connectors to the ABS sensors in the rear wheels for which toyota eventually released a technical bulletin. In later years the connectors were redesigned to be more resistant to water and snow. There have been many occurrences of this problem in the northern us and canada. I feel that toyota should issue an extended recall for this problem as they did for the issue with the corroded suspension bolts. *tr

The srs airbag warning light started lighting up periodically and then eventually stayed on. ran an obd test that showed the clock spring was shorted. this IS located in the steering wheel behind the airbag. Have seen many online complaints on this issue and feel a recall IS in order. This IS not a cheap dealer repair (more than $500) and can be a serious safety issue if the airbags do not deploy in a crash. It really needs to be urgently looked into before life or limb IS lost, if it hasn't happened already. *tr

The toyota dealership ran a $130 diagnostic that told me the spiral cable for the airbag sensor IS worn out, broken, or faulty and that it would be a total of $500 to fix it. They said no airbags in the vehicle would operate as they should whilst that light IS on and I'D need to fix it asap. I don't have the money to fix this currently and now I don't feel safe driving this vehicle! He told me that it was either the tacoma or tundra that had this same problem and it was a recall, but that the yaris wasn't popular enough to have enough on the road to cause a recall, which I think IS ridiculous. This needs to be either a recall or covered under an extended warranty. *tr

On 2/21/13 I was pulling into a parking space in a hospital underground garage. I was about 3 feet from a concrete wall when I suddenly accelerated hitting the wall. I had my seat belt on. The airbag was deployed hitting me in the face. the entire front end of the vehicle was destroyed,. I was extracted from the vehicle by the fire dept. And ems and taken by ambulance to the hospital emergency room. There x-rays of my spine were taken. I had no spinal fractures so I was discharged a few hours later. I suffered severe headaches and body aches for 3 weeks. My glasses were bent out of shape from the airbag hitting them.the vehicle was not drivable and was towed to the body shop. I picked up the car on 3/13/13 after multiple repairs were done including replacing the front bumpers, headlights, airbag, seatbelt, pulling the frame back into correct position etc. This cost $6200. On 3/14/13, after a call to the toyota home office. I met an engineer at toyota of nashua where he underwent an inspection of the black box and a check of the recording of the airbag ecu. The 6 page report that he gave me indicated that no data was recovered and no events had occurred. I am puzzled how that can be as the airbag was deployed. I am now left with a vehicle that was in perfect shape before the crash and has now lost a great deal of the trade in value. I am afraid to drive it because no one can tell me that the vehicle IS safe and will not undergo another unintended acceleration as I experienced on 2/21.at the time of the crash, I dropped my cell phone and when I retrieved it from the floor mat I noticed that the floor mat was not hindering the accelerator and was perfectly flat. Coincidently, on 3/7/13, I was notified that my car IS enrolled in a class action suit against toyota re: etcs being defective which may cause unintended acceleration. *tr
