Repeated A/C Failure in Extreme Heat Component: Air conditioning/cabin cooling Mileage: Approximately 49,350 miles as of XXX The vehicle repeatedly loses all A/C cooling in cabin in extreme heat (100°+F), with cooling returning in cooler weather. On XXX, traveling to [XXX], the A/C failed near [XXX]. After shutting off the vehicle for 20 minutes without success, we drove another 1.5 hours in 110–115°F heat with our two children. Audi Las Vegas serviced the refrigerant system August 10 at 47,069 miles, temporarily restoring cooling. On XXX, the A/C failed again in approximately 101°F heat during a trip to [XXX]. We drove approximately one hour of our trip home without cooling, with our children and [XXX] puppy, having to make unplanned stops along the way to attempt to stay cool. Audi Carlsbad could not reproduce the issue during its XXX inspection and recommended testing in hotter conditions. At Audi Rancho Mirage on XXX staff reportedly acknowledged frequent A/C issues with this model in hot climates. The dealership stated the system apparently prioritizes battery cooling over cabin cooling in high temperatures and offered no repair. The A/C failed again at pickup in 106°F heat and remained inoperative during our return trip. Safety Concern and Current Status Unpredictable loss of cabin cooling in extreme heat risks heat-related illness, particularly for children and other vulnerable occupants. The defect persists despite three dealership visits and refrigerant service. No warning lights, injuries, or crashes have been reported, and no permanent repair or definitive diagnosis has been provided. As of XXX the vehicle had approximately 49,350 miles, and we have limited its use to essential trips. We request that NHTSA investigate whether this recurring failure constitutes a safety defect. I'm writing to report a serious safety issue with my 2023 Audi Q4. Today, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at approximately 7:18 p.m. Eastern, my vehicle suddenly failed to accelerate from an intersection while I was driving, which nearly caused an accident. I was making a left turn from a T-intersection crossing a lane with opposing traffic, but my car accelerated very slowly causing the perpendicular to break (and honk). Fortunately, they were paying attention and slowed appropriately. Given the danger this poses, I want to formally report it so it can be investigated. This has not been confirmed by a dealer No warning lights were visible.
The air conditioner warning light came on in April 2026. I took it to dealer to be checked. Dealer said no problem. That warning light went on intermittently through May, June and July. By end of July I took it back to dealer. The evaporator was indeed malfunctioning and emitting carbon dioxide into the cabin when the air conditioner was on. While repairing the evaporator system, the plastic cover over the ground stud broke and required replacement. The vehicle was out of service for 10 working days.
