Risk
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver air bag. On X5 and X6 vehicles, only the inflator will be replaced. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 11, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2006-2011 323i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi and M3, 2007-2011 328i xDrive, 335i xDrive and 335is and 2009-2011 335d vehicles. The wiring and electrical connectors for the system that controls air flow for the heating and air conditioning system may overheat.

Wiring that overheats could cause the electrical connectors to melt, and increase the risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is unattended.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiring and electrical connectors, free of charge. Interim letters were mailed on November 27, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

"I am reporting a failed safety remedy by BMW of Macon regarding Recall 13V-044 (Battery Cable Connector). Following the recall service, the vehicle suffered a systemic digital failure and a legal odometer discrepancy of approximately 20,000 miles 73,547 to around 53,000k (The 53k miles was seen on the dash after the service, but the exact number wasn’t documented by me, but was reported to my service advisor at BMW of Macon) Specifically: 1. Module De-Sync: The recall was allegedly performed without proper voltage stabilization, causing a communication failure ('brownout') between the CAS and Instrument Clustermodules. 2. Vehicle Immobilization: The resulting digital handshake failure has triggered a security lockout, rendering the car unable to crank and locking the transmission in Park (No Neutral). 3. Misdiagnosis: The dealership is refusing to reconcile the software corruption they caused, instead attempting to charge for a mechanical starter motor that was fully operational (CAS 1/1) prior to their intervention. This vehicle entered the dealership for a safety recall and was returned in a digitally compromised, legally unmarketable, and non-operational state. I request a federal investigation into the dealership's failure to provide a safe and effective remedy."

As of recently I've been smelling a gas smell after driving my vehicle. No matter the distance or time I smelled the odor of gas. I am a certified automotive technician, so I decided to diagnose the problem myself. I put my vehicle in the air and spotted a wet spot of gas on the bottom left side of my fuel tank. To continue my diagnosis process I googled to see if anyone dealt with a similar issue. Seen a decent amount of people confirming the problem. A leak from the D/S fuel sending unit. So I take off my rear seats, and takeoff the fuel sending unit cover. Once the cover was off seen multiple cracks along side top of the unit. No warning lights was present, however did notice MPG was getting worse and worse. the little cracks makes my vehicle a fire hazard. I was able to have the replacement part ordered for about $140.

If the car is rolling, i have to restart the engine while driving and using manual power to steer. Obviously, this is a huge safety problem. I've just had the alternator and battery replaced, and they test fine. This has happened at least 50 times and I've reduced time driving vehicle until I solve the issue, which has persisted at least 6 months. I asked the BMW dealer about the following recall, and they claim they already performed it years ago after I already owned the car, without my recalling being told it was done. I am experiencing a know issue others have complained about related to the high pressure fuel injector failure in my vehicle. There have been previous recalls for this and my vehicle should fall within the recall dates and is showing all of the symptoms of this failure yet is it some how not part of the recall. What is happening is on cold starts or even idle the car is shaking and has a very apparent misfire, I have checked the spark plugs and they indeed have fuel on them. The injectors are causing excessive fuel in the cylinder this leads to a host of problems that are potentially, catastrophic like the engine seizing while driving due to oil dilution from the fuel

I had to roll down my window an reach outside to the door handle. evidently the manufacturer was aware of this problem because it repaired it by installing an "updated door latch on both front doors." I am gratetfull that I did not have to get out of that car because of an emergency.

I was told by my mechanic my fuel injectors have gone bad and I believe this IS from a manufacturer's issue. Please investigate as I know various people that have the same issue with the same engine, year and make. I took it to the shop after I turned it on to drive and the vehicle was shaking a bit more than normal, when I accelerated the car was very vaguely responding to me. This IS why my vehicle began to misfire, because of the fuel injectors. I will keep all receipts until further notice of this issue.

01May2020. Brought 2008 BMW 335I to south atlanta BMW dealership to replace rear brake pads (based on inspection report from a jan2020 appt). It was determined that: 1. Oil filter housing gasket: filter housing gaskets & oil cooler o-rings leaking oil 2. Radiator hose replacement. Upper coolant hose turning brown and seeping. 01May2020. Radiator hose was replaced along with conducting brake fluid flush and micro filter. Same day after repairs were complete the car stalls and shuts off and becomes unable to drive. Car IS towed back to dealership for further inspection. Upon further inspection the following are identified: 1. Fuel pump replacement: r&r high pressure fuel pump & low pressure sensor per fault code 29F2 2.turbocharger - variable boost control solenoid: both vanos solenoids & oil change per sib. dealership informs me that the fuel pump's warranty has been extended 10 years/120000 miles due to manufacturing issues with the fuel pump. I have never been made aware of issues with the fuel pump or extended warranties for replacing. I do think I should be responsible for repairs on a malfunctioning fuel pump that was poorly manufactured. BMW should be responsible for the replacement and repair. *tr

The key fobs in the 2008 bmws are glued and the battery soldered into place, making it difficult for owners to replace the batteries in the key fobs when the battery dies. once the key fob battery dies, the vehicle IS inoperable. BMW should offer a replacement key fob for all model years where the battery IS not able to be changed by the owner.

The high pressure fuel pump which was recalled and replaced in 2011 IS problematic again. When pushing the gas pedal harder, the car stutters and does not respond to the extra power requested by flooring the gas pedal and makes put me in a dangerous situation. The 'service engine soon' light came up as well. I pulled the car over when I could, stopped and started the engine again and the "service engine" light disappeared. This IS the same issue back in 2011 and recurring again. I suspect this has been there for a long time, but as my wife does not punch the gas as hard as me, she noticed this only on few occasions. I noticed this twice in the last month and so, called the stealership and logging a complaint here. In 2011, they said BMW extended the warranty to 10 years and so, this should be covered now as well, but the stealership abviously would not acknowledge. Hope our great president trump show germany their place, and hope BMW pays for the terrible engineering till elon musk makes them go bankrupt.

High pressure fuel pump failure could be the low pressure fuel pump not so sure got codes p3090 confirmed and p142e pending. The car was in motion when doing a turn the vehicle started to bog out and roughly idle I immediately turned to the right and shut the vehicle off tried to start it about three times in one minute intervals car would bog out and shut off threw me those two codes and a check engine light.

Went to replace an obviously burned out brand new xenon hid ballast. Confused about why it burned up(failure rate of 1 per 1,000 quoted by the manufacturer) I took off the back cover for the housing. To my surprise, the power cable's that plugs into the hid ballast insulation was completely gone. Bare. Wires. This IS obviously an extreme fire and safety hazard. Curious if my other headlight wiring was the same way, I popped the back housing of it to inspect for another hazard. Lord and behold, it was exactly the same way. Not just the power supply insulation on the wires for the ballast was chipping, all of it was chipping. The drl, angel eye and turn maker wiring insulation was all..gone. someone had recently discovered this issue beforehand as there was electrical tape & solder on some of the wires keeping them together. ---------------------------- this IS a fire hazard! ----------------------------

Vehicle overheated during high speed driving and began rapidly slowing forcing an emergency exit from the highway. Fortunately I was near an exit. BMW dealership replaced the water pump but person at the dealership explained that the water pump was probably blown as a result of the failure of the "ibs" cable. Dealer had to replace the "negative ibs cable." therefore, it appears that failure of this cable will require emergency stopping or emergy handling at any speed. The highway speed I was traveling made this particularly dangerous. I have the repair invoice showing the required replacement of the negative ibs cable.

I was driving and all of a sudden I could not steer, and the power was gone; it was barely moving; and the light came on saying to continue to drive with diminished speed. I was close to home on an access road; and was able to limp home. It was almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. I took it to global BMW in metro atlanta; and paid close to $3000 for repairs. Approximately a month later I had a problem again. The light came on and stated engine malfunction; reduced power, proceed with caution. in doing research this morning; I discovered that there was a recall on my vehicle for this exact problem. I did not know it; but global BMW had to know it. I called BMW recall and they claim that they are waiting on the parts. This recall has been in effect since 2010; so they must have the parts. Most of the lawsuits were settled out of court with a gag order; so it appears that BMW don't respond unless there IS a formal complaint; and this IS the reason for this complaint with your office. I will appreciate any assistance that you may provide.

Poor fuel injectors cause bad emmision injectors become faulty and cause less fuel being delivered to the combustion chamber. In turn, cause lean burning, high nox emission. When opening or closing the trunk lid, the latch rubs against the striker because of insufficient clearance.
- 10162416"Power Reduction, FC 2A82 Intake VANOS and/or FC 2A87 Exhaust VANOS Camshaft Faults are Stored in DME. The ""Service Engine Soon"" (MIL) lamp is illuminated and engine power reduction is perceived. This situation can occur after driving for some time with the engine at full operating temperature. If the ignition is cycled, the engine then usually performs normally. The following faults are stored in the DME: * 2A82 VANOS intake - stiff; jammed mechanically * 2A87 VANOS exhaust - stiff; jammed mechanically * 130108 VANOS intake: control fault, position not reached * 130308 VANOS exhaust: control fault, position not reached For the N54 engine, the following secondary faults may also be stored: * 120408 Charge-air pressure control, cut-out: Boost pressure accumulation blocked * 3100 Boost-pressure control, deactivation - boost-pressure buildup prohibited CAUSE The VANOS faults can be caused by an insufficient oil pressure supply to the inlet VANOS adjustment unit. To effectively move the camshafts to the target positions in the specified time and under all engine conditions, sufficient oil pressure supply to the VANOS control pistons must always be available. If engine operation requires the VANOS system to quickly advance or retard the intake or exhaust camshaft, faults may be stored if the camshaft is ""late"", or does not reach the target position. In this situation, engine power may be reduced and a check control message is displayed. The consequential fault 3100 or 120408 can also be set in the DME fault memory as well."

- 10151170N51 Engine: Service Engine Soon Lamp Illuminated - Loss of Power and Various Faults Stored in the DME. The customer complains that the Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. The vehicle has lost power; the engine cranks but will not start; and various faults are stored in the DME for engine misfire and/or mixture adaptations. CAUSE The vehicle has lost fuel system delivery pressure due to a loose or split fuel line inside the fuel tank. The failure is related to an unfavorable stacking of tolerances between the rubber fuel hose and the plastic regulator nipple or deterioration of the rubber hose construction material.

This has led to increased demands being placed on the battery. This document covers important information for the dealer on how to handle ""discharged battery"" complaints. A discharged battery can have various causes, most of which do not concern the battery itself. A failed battery is often the symptom and not the cause. A fully serviceable battery fails when an electrical component causes the battery to discharge; the battery becomes internally damaged and must be replaced. The cause of the discharged battery must be analyzed in order to guarantee a proper repair. INFORMATION The anti-trap protection feature may be activated when no obstruction is present. This may occur at either one or both of the rear windows. The root cause of the false anti-trap activation may be difficult to determine. The attached diagnosis flowchart has been developed to assist with determining the actual root cause of the failure as well as to help prevent unnecessary part replacements. The root cause is typically either an issue with the window system, or an electrical/software issue.
