  BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver air bag. On X5 and X6 vehicles, only the inflator will be replaced. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 11, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The wiring and electrical connectors for the system that controls air flow for the heating and air conditioning system may overheat.

  Wiring that overheats could cause the electrical connectors to melt, and increase the risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is unattended.

  Remedy

  BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiring and electrical connectors, free of charge. Interim letters were mailed on November 27, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

  The contact owns a 2010 BMW 335I. The vehicle was a custom-modified vehicle and a company mascot. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V676000 (Electrical System); however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact self-identified as an independent mechanic who wanted to be present when recall repair was performed; however, the contact preferred to have the recall disassociated with the VIN and to perform the recall repair himself. The local dealer was contacted and declined the contact to be present during the recall remedy process. The manufacturer was contacted, but the contact was advised that the request was denied. In addition, the contact was not advised on the recall reimbursement process. The contact wished to perform the recall repair himself and be granted reimbursement. The contact had not experienced a failure.

  Good Morning Folks, I own a 2010 BMW 335i sedan with approximately 110k miles and I will have to be replacing AGAIN, the valve cover gaskets in the car. The first time I had to replace the VCGs was back in 2016 and the vehicle barely had 50k miles on it. Had to replace the VCGs again in 2020. Milage was approximately 92k miles. Fast forward to today and once again, the VCG are leaking. This is an obvious manufacturer defect and I would request that the NHTSA look into to this reoccurring problem with BMW North America. The replacement cost of the VCGs on these vehicles is costly and because it is happening so frequently, BMW should not only be required to cover the cost of replacement but should also be required to remedy the problem permanently. The leakage could lead to possible ignition and a fire within the engine compartment. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I researched this is a problem for 335d, I think im experiencing the same problem, not sure why 335i is not included in the recall list. This happened multiple times for me and I ignored it at that time, other person has also experienced the same issue when he was driving my car. Now the electrical battery power is completely shut off and there is no recall, this really bothers me.

  My rear left brake caliper started shooting out brake fluid from within the middle. I have an ate caliper. This covers models from about 2006-2014. On bimmerfest.com, e90post.com, etc . . . Many people have had this problem. On rockauto, autozone, etc . . . The premium recommended replacement IS to get a caliper for the rear that has no phenolic piston, yet, instead has a solid metal piston. Unto the worst, at times, the phenolic piston has ejected from the caliper and jammed the brake pads to the very rotors. Ate calipers are often used as single or dual pin booted calipers on benz. They always have metal pistons. I have premium brakes. My rotors are unharmed, my brake pads are unharmed. There IS not a scratch in my rotor. My wheel bearing IS gone. My suspension IS gone.my sub frame IS gone. It flattened my tire. It made me slide coming out of a turn at 15-18mph. My speedometer began wavering up and down, I got a traction control light for the disc. It slid into the side of a curb. The curb has not a mark on it. My car has only paint damage to lower driver side skirt. And small scratch on the front left quarter panel. While we are at it, why IS there no regulation that a huge H8 or T8 sized battery not be placed under the rear passenger seat where the child seat goes? Your child IS sitting on a huge pile of sulfuric acid. They are sealed, but they cook and smell like rotten eggs often. Another bad design. They did that for years. It needs to go in the trunk or somewhere else. That's terrible! It has high pressure external dfi, and a centered fuel tank. The years of the dodge and lambo lp trial and erros all combined. It's really bad. I have me calling the police to file a report. They denied showing to the scene. I have the calls recorded. The vehicle was towed to BMW of silver spring (located at 3211 automobile blvd, silver spring, md 20904, (888) 295-2096) where it was diagnosed that the engine overheated. The contact was also informed that the water pump was leaking, and the radiator was leaking antifreeze and was mixing with the oil, which needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the vehicle was out of warranty. No further assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

  The wiring harness for the headlights tends to rot overtime in these cars which then leads to bare copper wires making contact with each other and ends up causing a short and blowing the bulb. This IS a safety hazard, not only for visibility but for fire prevention as well. This IS a common issue in a lot of bmw's and it should be addressed. This isn't something that should have to be replaced and it IS very challenging to do so. I took a look at this as my headlight bulb blew last week while on the road. Like I had mentioned earlier, this IS pretty common and IS even occurring in their newer models. The insulation over the wiring just flakes off and the dealerships show no care when the issue IS brought up.

I was involved in a minor, slow speed accident where my vehicle rear-ended the vehicle in front. the airbags deployed with such force that both front passenger windows were blown out and the windshield cracked. The following faults are stored in the DME: * 2A82 VANOS intake - stiff; jammed mechanically * 2A87 VANOS exhaust - stiff; jammed mechanically * 130108 VANOS intake: control fault, position not reached * 130308 VANOS exhaust: control fault, position not reached For the N54 engine, the following secondary faults may also be stored: * 120408 Charge-air pressure control, cut-out: Boost pressure accumulation blocked * 3100 Boost-pressure control, deactivation - boost-pressure buildup prohibited CAUSE The VANOS faults can be caused by an insufficient oil pressure supply to the inlet VANOS adjustment unit. To effectively move the camshafts to the target positions in the specified time and under all engine conditions, sufficient oil pressure supply to the VANOS control pistons must always be available. If engine operation requires the VANOS system to quickly advance or retard the intake or exhaust camshaft, faults may be stored if the camshaft is ""late"", or does not reach the target position. In this situation, engine power may be reduced and a check control message is displayed. The consequential fault 3100 or 120408 can also be set in the DME fault memory as well."

The vehicle has lost power; the engine cranks but will not start; and various faults are stored in the DME for engine misfire and/or mixture adaptations. CAUSE The vehicle has lost fuel system delivery pressure due to a loose or split fuel line inside the fuel tank. The failure is related to an unfavorable stacking of tolerances between the rubber fuel hose and the plastic regulator nipple or deterioration of the rubber hose construction material.

A discharged battery can have various causes, most of which do not concern the battery itself. A failed battery is often the symptom and not the cause. A fully serviceable battery fails when an electrical component causes the battery to discharge; the battery becomes internally damaged and must be replaced. The cause of the discharged battery must be analyzed in order to guarantee a proper repair.
