Certain sport utility vehicles and trucks fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 110, "tire selection and rims." these vehicles have an incomplete tire rim designation on the certification/tire label located on the driver's door edge. in addition, the label may also be missing the tire load rating on the label.…
If a customer replaces a wheel and only relies on the rim size designation that IS indicated on the label, a wheel that IS of a different rim contour designation may be installed. it may be difficult or impossible to mount the tire on a wheel with the wrong contour. if the tire IS mounted on the wheel with the wrong contour, the wheel and tire may not perform as intended, which could increase the risk of a crash.
A label that will correct the label originally installed will be mailed to consumers along with installation instructions. the customer will have the option for dealers to install the label. the recall begaon on november 7, 2006. owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2239, chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, and GMC trucks at 1-866-996-9463.

In addition, the front driver side door knob fractured. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (mclaughlin cadillac in east moline, il) and the manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 140,000.
After driving the truck from work one day, all the lights on the dash starts flickering, there was a loss of power, no acceleration and speed gauge drop completely. I had no idea of the speed that I was driving plus the doors started locking and unlocking. I have looked online and there are many people with the same issue with gm products.
Just purchased and found out this recall has never been completed.

The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experience a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Cracked dash- driver's side, completely cracked and separated, from steering wheel side to windshield. The dash cracked in second place a few days ago, along side of the main crack. Very flimsy material and creates a noise when driving. The dash has started to lift and separate at the larger crack and this IS causing a glare in the windshield when the sun IS out while driving(very dangerous!). This IS a safety hazard because of the glare and the potential of broken dash fragments that could cause injury or even a fatality if the airbags are deployed. This IS a poor design that could cause serious injuries and even death!
TL* takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 cadillac escalade ext. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags). The manufacturer was unable to determine when the parts would be supplied to the dealer. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Failure of the wheel hub and bearing assembly. caused loss of vehicle control, loss of ABS, wheel detachment and wheel fire. *tr
In august of 2009 I noticed when I had a front seat passenger I would get an instrument panel indicator warning light of "airbag readiness". Also, the passenger airbag status indicator in the overhead console was register as being "off". This failure was never intermittently -- it just failed. I went through the procedures of the owner's manual for possible corrections: 1. Have front passenger adjust weight while seated, move or position seat in a upright position, then turn vehicle "on and off". 2. Check for items under the seat for items and adjust seat belts. the last week of november I took the vehicle into the dealership for recall of nhtsa id#10v2400000. At that time I addressed the problem of the failure of the airbag system to the cadillac representative. He stated " he had checked the system for a recall of this nature and there was none". this could be true because, I just lucked upon seeing an article on the internet concerning the recall of gm vehicles. However, the recall of nhtsa ID# 10v644000 IS for cadillac/cts 2005-2007. My vehicle IS a cadillac/ext 2007 however, this model vehicle IS experiencing the exact safety hazard as the cadillac/cts 2007 model. I do not feel this IS a random coincidence rather, something that should be seriously brought to the attention of car manufacturer. *ln
All 4 factory rims are deteriorating and are causing the tries to loose air and go flat in traffic. *Tr

While parked he noticed that the four tires mounted on the vehicle exhibited cracks and separation of the tread. The vehicle was taken to three authorized tire repair shops on separate occasions for tire inspection. The technicians stated that the four tires were defective. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. The tires have not been replaced. The failure mileage was 33,000. the current mileage was 36,200. Updated 01/12/10. *Lj updated 01/13/10.*jb
I was driving my 07 ext escalade on jan. 3RD 11;50 at night when I noticed that it was unusually hot in the truck and a block later it smelt like hot plastic or burning hair and then I saw some smoke from inside the cab so I slowed down and then it got worse so I jumped out of the truck will it was still moving it ran into a snow bank I got up and ran over to the truck and shut the door hopping to smother out the flame of its air but the truck was running and the heater was still on called the police not to long after I saw the dash onfire then a window blew out and the whole thing was on fire after 15 min. The fire dept. Shows up and buy 1;00 am they put the fire out. *Tr
TL*- the contact stated that while driving the 2007 cadillac escalade ext 1500 on a clear day with good road conditions at 70 mph and his airbags deployed. t he called jerry's cadillac in weatherford, texas to tow his vehicle. The contact stated that the gm investigator informed him that they would come out and remove a black box from the vehicle. The contact stated that they did inform him that the box had been removed and they found no information on the box that indicated anything was wrong with the airbags or the vehicle. the contact stated that the manufacturer informed him that he could pay to have the airbags repaired, and if they found any fault to due to the manufacturing of the airbags, then they would reimburse him fully. the contact stated that the vehicle has been at jerry cadillac since 12/12/06, and he has been given no answers about the vehicle that he only drove for 1 month. the failure mileage was 1999.*ak
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
In a letter dated august 27, 2008, general motors corp. (Gm) notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa recall number 08v-441) to address a safety relateddefect that can result in engine compartment fire in approximately 850,000 vehicles equipped with a heated windshield washer fluid option.the subject vehicles of this investigation comprise over three-quarters of the recall population. According to gm, a short circuit on the printed circuit board for the windshield washer fluid heater module may overheat the control-circuit ground wire. This may cause other electrical features to malfunction, create an odor or cause smoke and in rare cases it may cause a fire.as a remedy, gm dealers will install a wire harness with an in-line fuse. In addition to the subject vehicles, several other gm models with the heated windshield washer fluid option are included in recall 08v-441: my 2006-2008 buick lucerne (manufactured august 2005 through november 2007); my 2008 buick enclave (manufactured february 2007 through april 2007); my 2006-2008 cadillac DTS (manufactured may 2007 through november 2007); my 2007-2008 saturn outlook (manufactured august 2006 through april 2007); and my 2007-2008 GMC acadia (manufactured august 2006 through april 2007) vehicles.gm IS instructing owners to take their vehicle to a dealer for service if they experience symptoms of windshield washer heater module short circuits. Gm's recall resolves the safety defect concerns pursued by this investigation.this engineering analysis IS closed.
In response to an information request letter sent by the office of defects investigation(odi) during preliminary evaluation pe08-010, gm provided odi with 41 allegations of non-crash engine compartment fires including 16 allegations of fires originating with the ignition in the off position.one of the fires was determined to be caused by an arson event.odi has also received 5 reports, 4 of which are of duplicative of reports provided by gm, alleging non-crash engine compartment fires in the subject vehicles.in total, odi IS aware of 41 non-crashengine compartment fires in the subject vehicles that are unrelated to arson.eight of the 41 fire allegations also allege property damage as a result of the fires.this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea08-010) to further assess the scope, frequency, origin and cause of the alleged non-crash related engine compartment fires in the subject vehicles.
