Caterpillar is recalling certain 2012 and 2014 Caterpillar CT660 heavy duty trucks manufactured by Navistar between October 31, 2011, and January 23, 2013. Certain side marker lamps and/or reflective tape were not applied to these vehicles, which have a length of 30 feet or longer. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor…
Risk and remedy
Risk
Missing side marker lamps and/or reflective tape reduces the visibility of the truck to others, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
Remedy
Caterpillar will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began on April 262013. Owners may contact Caterpillar at 1-800-447-4986.
Technical service bulletins and other communications the manufacturer sent dealers about this vehicle. Ask a dealer for the full document by its number.
10158771Engine software On Board Diagnostic (OBD) issues will be corrected, which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis. In addition, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) quality sensor monitors will be corrected to proper operating function.
10158770Product Link models PL121/321s will stop sending data after April 6th, 2019. Date codes will appear as if coming from the past so the customer interface (UI) will not recognize those back dated messages and no data will appear in the UI.
10154958Certain truck models that were built with 2013 through 2015 model year CT13 engines. Engine software OBD issues will be corrected which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis. In addition, under certain conditions, the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system inducement schedule may not function properly and may result in an increase in regulated air pollutants. Recalibration of the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM) needs to be completed.
10142194Lower shock absorber mounting bracket may break, this is due to that the shock absorber dimension is longer than the dimension between truck frame and suspension stop. Shock absorber effectively becomes stop and breaks the lower shock mount.
10118226There is a problem with certain truck models that were built with 2013 through 2015 model year CT13 heavy duty on board diagnostic (HDOBD) engines. These engines will require recalibration of the engine ECM and ACM (aftertreatment control module). Certain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) issues will be corrected which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis.

These trucks will benefit from the completion of the following proactive truck inspection. One by one go through the inspection sheet and perform all known documented repairs to each and every item on the check sheet. Proper execution of these repairs will help reduce customer failures and down time.
10117884CT660 Instrument Gauge Cluster - Gauges, including speedometer, tachometer, transmission oil temperature, and others are reading erratically or having incorrect values. These gauges are all part of the primary cluster on the vocational truck. Many clusters are being returned NFF. A detailed description of the actual problem in SIMSi or the claim story is needed.
10117883Gage Cluster Transmission Oil Temperature Is Inaccurate After Cluster Replacement - The transmission oil temperature gage reads maximum when a new gage cluster is installed. The gage cluster should not be replaced when transmission oil temperature reads maximum after new cluster is installed. The cluster should be flashed to the 1.3 software for NON SCR trucks. SCR trucks have the correct software installed.
10117882CT660 Vision Link "Ghost Codes" Instrument Cluster Generated Codes - Ghost codes show up on Vision Link, but not on the ECM's. The gauge cluster can generate some fault codes. The only way to read these codes are on Vision Link.
10117881ECM Mount Modification - The engine harness can rub on the harness mounting location of the ECM mount. If the ECM mount is removed from the engine for any reason, perform the modification to the wire harness mount and inspect the harness.

10117875Certain CT660 Trucks with Manual Transmissions Have Been Disengaging Out of Select Gears - Certain CT660 trucks with manual transmissions have been popping out of select gears. The popping out of gear is caused by the shift tower experiencing interference with the lower shift boot. This problem affects trucks that were built before April 30th, 2013. In order to prevent interference between the shift tower and the lower shifter boot, trim the lower shifter boot using scissors or a knife to make a hole that is three inch in diameter, centered on the shifter bar when the shifter bar is in the neutral position.
10117874A/C Refrigerant Quantity Is Incorrect for CT660 On Highway Trucks - In table 14 in chapter 6 of System Operation, Disassembly and Assembly, and Specifications, UENR1844-01 the refrigerant quantity is incorrect. The refrigerant quantity for CT660 On Highway Trucks (all engines) is 1.70 kg (3.75 lb), 1700 g (60oz)
10117873PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE CLUTCH LEVER AND ROD ASSEMBLY ON CERTAIN CT660 ON HIGHWAY TRUCK - The existing clutch lever and rod assembly does not allow for proper clutch adjustment on certain CT660 On Highway Trucks. If the existing clutch lever components are not replaced, proper adjustment may not be able to be achieved.

10117870PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE AIR CONTROL VALVE (ACV) CONNECTOR ON CERTAIN CT660 ON HIGHWAY TRUCKS - Some ACV connectors were produced with plugs installed backwards in empty connector cavities. This could permit water intrusion, which could short the terminals. This may lead to ACV failure or EGR cooler plugging. This repair will involve reinstalling the plugs in the correct orientation to ensure the connector is tightly sealed.
10116466There is a problem which relates to engine emissions on certain CT660, CT680, and CT681 On Highway Trucks that were built with 2016 model year compliant CT13 Engines. 10090140Excessive engine oil consumption on CT13 engines with scr - on certain CT13 engines with scr, carbon can build up on the top lands of the pistons and cause the piston rings to stick, leading to loss of oil control in the power cylinders and increased oil consumption. An updated cylinder kit IS now available to address this condition.
10090139The intake throttle valve IS causing regeneration issues on certain on-highway truck engines - customers may experience frequent regenerations, low power, and unit unable to complete a regeneration or soot load accumulation issues. Inspect the itv connector for any issues like backed out pins, corrosion, or looseness. Form a connection with engine diagnostics and run an obfct.

10090053Aftertreatment outlet nox sensor internal water shield installation - water intrusion can cause the malfunction or failure of the aftertreatment outlet nox sensor on vertical exhaust configurations. The recommended repair IS to install a rain shield which prevents water from traveling down vertical exhausts from contacting the outlet nox sensor.
10089400Product improvement program for installing a check valve in the transmission cooling circuit on certain ct660 trucks equipped with CX31 transmissions - a unique sequence of events must take place in order for a nuisance hesitation to be experienced. The hesitation generally occurs on the first shift after the truck has been shut off for a long period of time. The ct660 equipped with CX31 ransmission hesitates for up to ten seconds when shifting from neutral to 1ST gear on start-up due to oil drainage in the system. Conduct rework procedure.

10089337Extended life coolant (elc) exhibiting nitrite depletion in machines equipped with aluminum radiators-nitrites in extended life coolant (elc) can react with the aluminum cooler to produce elevated ph and low nitrite levels in schedule oil sampling (s@o@s) samples. As there are multiple issues that can contribute to the depletion of nitrite, contact your local cat dealer to request level 2 coolant analysis if nitrite depletion IS experienced.
10089318The existing exhaust flex pipe can crack on certain ct660, ct680, and ct681 on-highway trucks. If the existing exhaust flex pipe cracks it can/will result in an exhaust leak after the aftertreatment system but before the vertical stack. Replace the exhaust flex pipe and both cab shocks.
