Certain vehicles originally built with cloth seats that were equipped with an automatic air bag passenger sensing system and later reupholstered with aftermarket leather seat cover kits are involved. testing has indicated that the aftermarket leather seat covers can cause the passenger sensing system to malfunction.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If the passenger sensing system malfunctions, the front air bag on the passenger side may be disabled when it should be enabled, or enabled when it should be disabled. in either case, in the event of a crash that requires air bag deployment, a front passenger's level of injury may be increased.
Remedy
Because a replacement leather seat cover that IS compatible with the passenger sensing system IS not available, general motors (gm) will repurchase these vehicles in accordance with the terms stated in gm's letter to owners. the recall began on november 6, 2006. owners should contact gm at 1-877-477-1022 to begin the process of repurchasing their vehicle.
Certain trucks and sport utility vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 110, "tire selection and rims." these vehicles were shipped with tire and loading information labels listing an inacccurate vehicle capacity weight.
Risk and remedy
Risk
A misprinted label could lead to improper vehicle loading specifications or tire inflation which could result in a tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Certain passenger vehicles may have been built with a power steering hose that IS not to specification. under extreme steering maneuvers, such as turning the steering wheel fully to the left or right while braking, the hose may fracture and leak fluid.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If this were to occur, power steering assist would be lost and increased steering effort would be required. on vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, it could also result in loss of power brake assist and increased braking effort would be required. if the power steering fluid spray were to spray onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could occur.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the power steering hose(s) for two suspect date codes and replace them if required. the recall will begin on october 14, 2005. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, buick at 1-866-608-8080, cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, isuzu at 1-800-255-6727, or hummer at 1-800-732-5493.

The headlamps have quit working when driving at night but will come back on later. This has happened several times. I found GM recall number 14291 that is supposed to include 2006 Chevy Trailblazers and pertains to this problem. The local dealership told us that our vehicle has a vin number that is not covered. It would seem that all model 2006 Chevy Trailblazers would use the same HDM modules in them when they were built. Is ours covered?

Brakes failed for no apparent reason around 8:00 am that morning. My friend and I was driving to my home in his 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer after many stops that morning. We was on the interstate doing 65 MPH. I noticed the traffic ahead approaching and I said "cars" indicating to my friend to slow down. He said "I have no brakes!" We narrowly missed the first cars and while readjusting we came into contact with the driver side of three vehicles rolling us on our side! I broke both my arms escaping thankfully with my life. We had no idea what suddenly and unexpectedly lost brakes. Weeks afterwards I started reading about the stabilitrac and steering sensor on the 1 of many Chevrolet vehicle defect issues. Around that year and I believe was the problem. I have been out of work and tried to explain this to people with no reply. I read an article about Chevrolet told about the issue and refused a recall. Senator Blumenthal requested an investigation but I haven't seen anything after a judge requested a Chevrolet CEO deposed. If this vehicle has these dangerous problems please know that it almost killed my friend and i. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2021/03/u-s-senator-asks-nhtsa-to-investigate-gm-over-faulty-steering-sensor/ Thanks if anyone is listening. Several months ago, I was at a fast food drive up window. I had my drivers side window down while paying for my food and receiving my food. It was down pouring and the inside of my door got pretty wet. I wiped off the rain as best as I could but everything was soaked. The very next day the drivers side door controls started to go haywire. The window button stopped working and my door locks only worked occasionally until they stopped working all together. My side mirrors can no longer be adjusted from the drivers seat. I have to get out of the vehicle and manually adjust both driver and passenger side mirrors. I'm not sure if there is a short in the wiring from the rain or just what is going on. I asked a parts dealer to see how much it would cost to replace the drivers side door controls module and he was of no help except to say its a recall part because of moisture. I've looked this up and I see there was a recall but my VIN isn't on the recall list. I don't understand why my vehicle is excluded considering this appears to be exactly what this incident generated the recall in the first place. I further looked into the investigation you had on the Trailblazer's outside of the salt belt states having the same issues with the moisture and issues that arise from the damaged door controls. I'm not sure if I would be considered in the expanded recall but I'm certain I should be as this is exactly why my drivers side door controls failed. I feel this is a huge safety issue as i don't know if there is a electrical/wiring short and not being able to adjust the side mirrors is an impairment. There was no warning to let me know anything was wrong. The system just went out just that fast. Please advise me how to proceed with my next steps to get this resolved. Also, my low beams went completely out the other day and replacing the bulbs didn't fix that issue. I do have a recall scheduled for January to get the headlights fixed and I'd like them to fix both issues. Thank you.

.+Electrical system. Have read this speedometer issue can also cause other malfunctions on instrument panel such as cruise control issues. .+Driving a car with a broken or faulty speedometer is very dangerous. Not only can it put you in danger, but it can also jeopardize the safety of your passengers, and other drivers and pedestrians on the road. As for the law, you can also be ticketed for operating a vehicle with a broken speedometer, which can cost you fines and court fees, and even risk suspending your drivers’ license. .+My mechanic has not had the chance to look at it yet as he isn't open till Monday. .+No other warnings were given prior to failure.

Stabilitrak light comes on intermittently for no apparent reason. Have had brake fluid, brake pads, rotors, sensors and tires replaced. Traction control and ABS checked; all IS good. No cel code relating to this issue. Traction control off button doesn?t work once light appears. There IS no difference in driving when light IS on. Still haven?t figured out what causes it. battery, power cords, and alternator have both had to be replaced do to issues with the voltage outputs. Now to replace fuse box and ecm due to more voltage output issues. Cel has had no indications of an ecm, fuse box, alternator, or battery problem until they were beyond repair (this also happened with other transfer case leak, loss of reverse gear, and front differential leak) . Cel comes and goes by itself at anytime with no difference in drivability or conditions. Each time it reappeared it?s thrown different sensors and/or circuits failing or high/low voltages including O2, maf, tps, evap system, wheel speed, fuel pressure, oil pressure, steering wheel, gas and brake pedal position, air bag impact, just to name a few. My car has recently started going into limp mode at random due to this electrical issue. Only remedy for this problem IS disconnecting the wiring harness and allowing the fuse box and ecm to cool down. and finally, my oil filler tube seal broke and oil was spitting out into engine bay. Coincidentally, my pcv valve tube had also broken, and the tube was hanging loose right in front of the oil filler tube. As a result, pcv tubing sucked up a large amount of oil into the air intake; with no check engine light illumination indicating any problems during the time of failure. my air intake system IS nearly ruined (not to mention the $$$ I shelled out in oil) and the wear down on parts has been detrimental to the life of the engine. this car IS nothing but a cash cow for gm. *tr

The subject vehicles are model year (MY) 2002-2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2004-2007 Buick Rainier, 2003-2008 Isuzu Ascender, 2005-2009 Saab 9-7X, 2002-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2003-2006 Chevrolet SSR, 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse, and 2006-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. This scope includes the Trailblazer/Envoy variants: 2002-2006 Envoy XL/Trailblazer EXT and 2004-2005 Envoy XUV. The original scope of this investigation was expanded to include all vehicles equipped with the subject Headlight Driver Module (HDM). The focus of the investigation was to determine whether actions performed by General Motors adequately addressed any unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the subject vehicles concerning the headlights and the HDM that controls them.Under normal electrical load and environmental conditions, the HDM can overheat inside the Underhood Electrical Center (UEC). This can cause the module to fail and result in a simultaneous loss of both low beam headlights and both daytime running lights (DRLs), often with no warning or prior detectability to the driver. This failure can be intermittent or permanent. No other exterior lights are affected. High beams, turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights are still operational.General Motors addressed this issue with 2 recalls (14V755 & 15V519) and a special coverage program (N172091910). In view of the recalls and special coverage program implemented by GM and the vehicle high beams continuing to operate, ODI has tentatively concluded that the actions taken by GM mitigate any unreasonable risk to safety posed by HDM failure in the subject vehicles.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above are available for review online at NHTSA.gov under the identification numbers in the attached document.

On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois…
On August 15, 2012 General Motors (GM) announced a regional recall action (12V-406) involving model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and MY2005-2007 SAAB 9-7x vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the salt belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The recall remedy requires the inspection and repair or replacement of the master power window switch, which GM refers to as a driver door module (DDM). At the same time, GM implemented a special coverage program to replace failed DDMs for vehicles registered outside of these states. ODI was not satisfied with GM's exclusion of non-salt belt vehicles and continued its investigation. On June 13, 2013, GM submitted a related recall notification (13V-248) to reclassify the initial special coverage program into a safety recall for vehicles that were not previously repaired under special coverage. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA12-004 on June 11, 2012 to further investigate allegations of DDM thermal incidents in model year (MY) 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. Thermal incidents involve cases where fire-related events such as smoke and melt are present. ODI has received 170 reports alleging a thermal event occurred. Complainants stated that the DDM melted and in some cases produced odor and/or smoke. Fourteen of these incidents led to a fire where visible flames were reported or the damage extended significantly beyond the DDM. In addition to the 170 reports listed above, ODI received 63 reports alleging the DDM acted erratically or became inoperative. In response to ODI's Information Request (IR), GM provided 619 unique consumer complaints that related to the alleged problem. Seventy-seven of those reports led to a fire with flame, and 4 reported injuries of smoke inhalation and/or slight burns from contact with hot switches. GM also submitted 20,400 warranty claims for replacement of the DDM, most of which involved inoperative switches. The problem condition is caused by fluids, such as rain water, entering the driver's door module and subsequently causing corrosion that could result in an electrical short in the printed circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. However, the electrical short may also cause overheating that could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or in some cases fire with flame. The circuit board was redesigned and GM implemented the new design into vehicle production on May 14, 2007. All failures cited above occurred in vehicles produced before this build date (i.e., with the original design DDM). GM also reported that all MY 2006-2007 GMT360/370 platform vehicles and MY 2005 SAAB 9-7x vehicles utilized the same DDM and therefore ODI expanded the subject population to include these vehicles. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recalls 12V-406 and 13V-248. The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation on February 9, 2012 in response to complaints alleging driver door module melting and/or burning in MY 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazers. In response to ODI's Information Request letter, General Motors presented 167 reports and 698 warranty claims that related to the alleged problem. ODI has received a total of 83 complaints, 66 alleging the door module had melted or burned, and the remaining 17 stating that the window switches acted erratically or were inoperative.
