The braun corporation has notified nhtsa about a defect in certain model year 2005-2008 general motors mobility conversion, handicapped accessible low floor minivans. during conversion, the driver or passenger side trailing arm modification may not have been adequately welded.
Risk and remedy
Risk
A squeaking or clunking noise may develop. the trailing arm bushings may prematurely wear and the trailing arm may fracture or separate, allowing the rear axle to become partially separated from the chassis increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and will have a supply of retrofit parts available to remedy the vehicles free of charge. the safety recall began on june 4, 2010. owners may contact braun at 1-800-488-0359.
Dorman IS recalling 979 steering knuckles, dorman p/nos. 697-902 and 697-903, sold under dorman's "oe solutions<sup>tm</sup>" brand name, and napa p/nos. 7-8502 and 7-8503 which were sold for replacement use on the various vehicles listed above. a potential material or design defect could result in the steering knuckle breaking in the hub area.

A broken steering knuckle could result in loss of steering control and a possible crash without warning.
Remedy
Dorman will notify owners and replace the defective steering knuckles free of charge and reimburse the repair facility or owner for labor. the recall began on february 23, 2009. owners may contact dorman's toll-free hotline at 1-800-523-2492 and press 5.

The contact had the vehicle modified because as a disabled driver, and had a ramp installed for the wheelchair. The contact stated that whenever the sliding door was opened, the ramp failed to fully deploy. The contact stated that the sliding door was opening at various speeds. The contact stated that he had taken the vehicle to the company that had modified the vehicle. The company advised the contact that the vehicle was nearly 20 years old, and that parts to repair the sliding door were no longer available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

Also upon starting off from a traffic light or stop sign I experienced a terrible jerking sensation with a knock sound.the van has been serviced for reg maintenance over the years and deemed mechanically ok ,other than a few reg matienance issues and my sister sold me the van in good condition .i am concerned with this steering condition now as well as the slow start jerk/knock.it has only been serviced thru the years at chevrolet dealership.mainly in marion, va.chevrolet.both issues occured while vehicle was on the road and running.i am concerned she ,my sister may have missed a recall notice at some point.now I am the owner of the uplander 07 van.

TL* the contact owned a 2007 chevrolet uplander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the charging system failure warning message would flash on the instrument panel as the vehicle would simultaneously reduce its power. Soon after the warning light dissipated, the vehicle would resume normal driving operation. The contact then stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle began to emit a black smoke from the engine without warning. As the contact began to make a left turn, a flame ignited from the driver side of the engine and the contact immediately parked and exited the vehicle. The contact then called the authorities and the fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed at the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of fire. the dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 189,363.*dt the consumer stated she still has the vehicle in her posession.

My 2007 chevy uplander has become unsafe. Multiple mechanics have given different guesses as to what the problem may be. When driving, if I stop at a stop sign or red light, or even during stop-go traffic, the van will suddenly jerk when I go to accelerate. Sometimes the jerk IS incredibly forceful as if I have been hit from behind. Two mechanics have recommended a complete transmission replacement but say that they have had similar complaints from other owners of the same make/model vehicle. Because the van does this, it IS hard to accelerate immediately from a stopping point. This causes unsafe driving/traffic conditions as I can not be certain my van will immediately accelerate when needed. *tr

The low beam headlights go off on their own, then only brights work, after a few miles those quit too. when the headlights fail so do the tail lights. this happened at night to my 16 year old daughter and she ended up in a steep ditch because she couldn't see where she was pulling over without lights.

The motorized doors will not close. The dealer said that the motor IS not strong enough for the doors to close. the dealer put in a new one when I had 23,000 miles on and said that this IS very unsafe. It IS now doing the same thing again and I only have 85,000 on the car now.

The driver pulled off the freeway and onto a side street where the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine was faulty, but did not provide any further information. The vehicle was then towed to the contact's home where it was inspected by an independent mechanic. The mechanic wrote in his report that fine granules in the coolant reservoir indicated that temporary block seal had been utilized, which indicated previous failures with the engine. The contact did not know the specific cause of the failure. The contact stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

Vehicle has been experiencing faulty fuel gauge readings as well as fuel range readings, since may of 2009 (i purchased it in 2008). it has been in the dealers shop 2 dealerships, numerous times for this problems, have supposedly had the sensor changed 4 times (under warrantee) and the fifth time, they would not do anything saying that they could not find a problem. it was at that time out of warrantee. it IS now in the shop again for the same issue because since the problem has never been fixed and I was told that this has been an ongoing issue with gm and they basically refuse to own up to the problem or actually fixing what needs to be done. no recall on this issue but the chevy trailblazer has had the same identical issue and there was a recall siting a safety concern. I do have pictures (resent ones) as to my concern but I also have some pictures from years ago that I actually showed to the dealerships, and still gm as well as the dealers are not wanting to actually fix the problem. I think that I have already made this complaint with the nhtsa previously but to date nothing has been done and I notice that there are numerous complaints similar if not identical to my complaint, which were put in after mine, and still nothing (recall) has taken place.

A friend was cleaning my 2007 chevy cargo uplander van and did not know the child safety lock was on. The door slid closed due to the van being parked on a hill while he was still inside the van. There was no way out! Both side doors were locked and the back hatch door has no inside handle. This person was in the van for over an hour banging on the doors and screaming for help in over 90 degree weather in georgia. He described the incident as "he thought he was going to die"! luckily someone heard him and rescued him. He was ringing wet with sweat and was severely dehydrated. This could have been a fatal accident if someone had not heard him banging on the doors.

Frequent clicking from changing gear to gear while vehicle still IS a result of the cv axle spinning inside the hub (press brake and gas) the remedy for this problem of shuddering and stalling when at a go from a stop or clicking while transitioning to slowing down IS to replace the cv axle with one that has a longer shaft with splines that actually extend through the hub so that the hub nut threads do not enter the hub bearing and the cv axle splines run all the way through the hub (instead of partially/less than halfway). The wobbling on take off IS from the axle not gripping inside the hub, sort of like a dradle, as the hub does not completely grip the axle shaft the centripetal force goes off balance. As shown in the video link below you will see the long term effects of the errors concerning this issue. What would happen if one would place a rod through the center of a washer and whirled it around like a jump rope . Since winter of 2012, I have replaced 3 thermostats, 2 heater coils, flushed radiator numerous times and still have no heat. Mechanic IS beside himself for an answer. Odi evaluated general motors' (gm) data, conducted consumer interviews, inspected and tested my 2005-2007 gm minivans with regard to the alleged defect of a power sliding door (psd) opening while the vehicle IS out of park.odi identified a high warranty claim rate.however, these claims are related to various problems associated with doors not properly opening or closing and not specifically to doors opening while driving.the condition of the psd reversing direction during the closing sequence IS consistent with an obstruction of the door, or with improper alignment of the door, and this IS addressed in gm technical service bulletin # 07-08-64-007 and bulletins # 07-08-64-007a through d.odi's evaluation of the psd system notes numerous safeguards to preclude both unintentional and intentional power opening of the psd while the vehicle IS in motion.a safety-defect trend has not been identified at this time.accordingly, this investigation IS closed.[see document file for additional information regarding this resume.]
