Chrysler IS recalling 20,283 my 2006-2009 charger and magnum vehicles built with the police package and equipped with a column shifter. the gearshift cable may become disengaged from the steering column mounting bracket and cause an incorrect transmission gearshift position display.
This could allow the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction startling the driver, and cause a crash without warning.
Dealers will add a redundant locking mechanism to the gearshift cable at the mounting bracket to ensure proper retention and shift linkage function. the recall began on november 10, 2008. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2.7 liter engines and mk25e braking systems may exhibit inadequate clearance between the rear brake tubes and the exhaust gas recirculation tube. contact between the brake tubes and exhaust gas recirculation tube over an extended period of time may cause the brake tubes to wear through and cause a brake fluid leak.
This can result in a decrease of braking force and the potential for an engine compartment fire.
Dealers will inspect the rear brake tubes for damage and replace them free of charge. a clip will also be installed to secure the brake tubes to the right front shock tower to maintain proper clearance to the exhaust gas recirculation tube. the recall began on june 26, 2006. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
On certain pickup trucks, sport utility and passenger vehicles equipped with 42rle automatic transmissions, the cup plug that retains the park pawl anchor shaft may be improperly installed. if the shaft moves out of position, the vehicle may not be able to achieve 'park' position.
If this occurs and the parking brake IS not applied, the vehicle may roll away and cause a crash without warning.
Dealers will inspect the transmissions and install a bracket to ensure the park pawl anchor shaft IS retained in the proper position. the recall began on november 28, 2005. owners may contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
vehicle engine codes were all corrected properly in hopes of fixing the stalling issues. the vehicle was seemingly better for a few days. upon driving the vehicle on the highway at normal highway speed, the vehicle suddenly began flickering and shutting off and on. the vehicle would shut off and on rapidly. each time the vehicle turned back on it would accelerate causing the vehicle to jolt forward and stop rapidly. the car would not allow me to brake safely. the vehicle behind was within inches of a collision but their quick response to slam on their brakes and swerved to the shoulder thankfully missed. this is not an isolated event. speaking to other hemi 5.7 vehicle owners this is a very common issue. I had a baby in a carseat in the backseat who was jolted around slamming the back of his head into his car seat. this is so dangerously unsafe. not dealership can find the problem even after replacing every part possible on these vehicles.
Air bag light was flashing and contact Dodge multiple times to inquire and fix recall however all I was offered was a gift card but no sort of transaction while vehicle was being fixed and was told I would receive follow up to make arrangements to get everything fixed however never had received any follow up and finally like I had told and showed the dealer probably the bag was going to deploy luckily I was the only person in the vehicle the passenger side airbag deployed and caused me to go off road into rail totaling vehicle it was no injuries or damages to any other property however vehicle was total loss and had a car person pick it up so I wouldn’t occur any cost leaving vehicle abandoned or in a storage facility when I contacted recall customer care for dodge and told them what happened now their excuse is a investigation however before this incident they have had ample time and many opportunities to check the vehicle just to be pushed off with a bunch of excuses to not provide ample conversation for inconvenience and the losses accrued due to their Faulty unsafe vehicle that could have cost someone life due to donor drive recall
This is the second time I have been stuck on the side of the road showing that my car has a quarter tank of gas and it just dies on me. I was rescued with some fuel and it started right back up again. Upon checking for recalls for this issue, I came across some 2005 to 2006 Dodge magnums or chargers with fuel tank recalls. I called Chrysler and they are saying my vin does not apply to the fuel tank recall. How is it, I am having the same exact issue as those vin’s affected by this recall. I think it is something to look into. I have gone on Dodge forums and read people’s stories about the same issue as I am having and I am sure they are unaware of the steps they can take with the NHTSA to file a complaint where an investigation could be imminent. Please advise. This has happened more than once so now I consider an empty tank when I am at a quarter tank reading on my gas meter.
The car won’t go in gear
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Magnum. The contact stated while driving 10-15 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power while coming to a stop. Additionally, the vehicle lost motive power after refueling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE13016 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,886.
Unable to shift car stuck in park gear shifter (shift interlock latch) and Steering Module .year ,make and model included my Vin excluded from recall .Dodge Magnum SRT8 2006 4 door.safety put at risk by not being able to shift gears in an emergency.problem confirmed see invoice.inspected by dodge see invoice.no warning
With all of the takata airbag recalls for these vehicles for front airbags, what about the side curtain airbags that some models like mine were equipped with as a factory option? are those airbag inflators also need to be replaced?
The engine in my 2006 dodge Magnum has begun stalling out after fueling precisely as described in NHTSA action number PE13016. The first time it happened I was in the middle of a U-turn at a busy intersection. The engine died and I lost power steering and power brakes. I was able to brute-force the steering wheel and narrowly avoided hopping the curb and hitting the light pole on the corner. This light pole might have just as easily been a pedestrian. I called my local Dodge dealer (Ontario Dodge, Ontario California) to explain the problem and arrange to bring the car in. I let them know that I was aware that this issue was addressed under NHTSA action number PE13016 and should be covered under the lifetime warranty extension. I was told by the service adviser that I am required to drop off my car and that it would be 7-10 days before they would look at it. I suggested that they put me on a list and I could bring my car in 7-10 days at a time when they were able to look at it. They were unwilling to do this. They're insisting that my car sit in their lot for 7-10 days before they will even look at it. This isn't a scheduling issue. I can go on their website today and schedule my car for any other service tomorrow. No, this is a punitive action. Clearly they don't want to do the repairs and they're hoping I'll just go away by making it unreasonably difficult; not to mention expensive considering that a rental car will now be required. Chrysler and their dealers are not acting in good faith with regards to their agreement with the NHTSA and PE13016. In my experience and opinion they're doing whatever they can to evade these repairs. I'm a little disappointed that a full recall wasn't ordered. The agreement the NHTSA made with Chrysler left them with a little too much wiggle room in my opinion.
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. The contact stated that when the fuel tank was full, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that at a half tank the failure was not experienced. The contact inspected the vehicle himself and found that the fuel tank was defective. The contact stated that the fuel tank integral multi-functional control valve failed to operate as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer provided tsb 14-002-14 regarding the engine stall following fuel tank fill up. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
Here we are 15 months later and only 2,330 miles from my last complaint about my 2006 dodge magnum stalling after a fuel fill up or when turning left, it happened yet again today, I know there IS a current fuel tank recall for 2005 - 2006 dodge charger, magnum & chrysler 300'S with the V8 5.7L & 6.1L, yet nothing for the V6 2.7L & 3.5L, why? They all use the same exact gas tank, which have been proven to be defective, i;m the original owner of this car and it still only have 76,233 miles, so it should be covered but IS not, please expand this recall X53 to cover all magnums and chargers and chrysler 300s....we V6 owners should also have a voice in our own safety and recalls when our cars all use the same gas tanks
I have owned this 2006 dodge magnum SE V6 2.7L from new, bought in april 2006, the problem I'm having IS with the car stalling, without any notice, happening today when turning left at a stop light and starting uphill. I was able to restart the car after pulling to the right without power, coming to a stop, putting the car in park, and restarting. I made it back home, but the car has been cranking over and not starting when in my garage, this after filling up with gas. I've had this issue happen before from 2006 onward to today, only a few times a year, and changed out the fuel pump relay each time and thought that was the problem, but the car has never stalled while driving before now, only when sitting at a light or stop sign after filling up the tank. The car only has 73,000 miles now after 13 years, I always baby the car and it still looks new. Thanks for any help with this matter
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. The contact noticed a fuel odor coming from the vehicle while the vehicle was stationary with the engine running. The contact also noticed the odor while exiting the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. When the contact filled up the tank, he noticed that the top of the fuel tank was defective. The fuel tank top (the malfunction control valve) allowed fuel to leak into the purge line, which caused the engine to stall in traffic. Central florida chrysler dodge jeep RAM (8675 commodity cir, orlando, fl 32819, (321) 445-8017) stated that the vehicle met the criteria for technical service bulletin: 14-002-14 issued on april 22, 2014; however, the vin was not included and the contact was denied coverage for the repairs. The manufacturer stated that the coverage was excluded for the vehicle and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 40,000. *As *tr *pm consumer stated fuel tank failed 2ND time in june of 2019 at 112,000 miles and had a lifetime part warranty on it. Consumer stated the 1ST recall has been honored.*jb
Qhen I fill up my gas tank the car starts to shut off every time I fill it up I have to put like 1/2 a tank so it doesn't shut off on me when im driving
My car will turn off when im at a light or if im driving down the road and will just shut off dont know the issue but its dangerous to drive on the road.
"Takata recall" I'm getting the run around and procrastination, and hard time from a dealer on replacement of my takata airbags over the last couple of months. Dealer info: armory garage 926 central avenue albany,ny 12205-3504 dealer phone numbers: sales:888-313-7094 service:888-273-2137 parts:877-885-5441
My car (2006 dodge magnum 5.7 hemi)was running totally fine.... No warnings of any kind. I turned it off to run into the gym and it wouldn't start. A diagnostic test was run and they said the piston blew and it needs a new engine
Takata recall vehicle stalls anytime . Loose power steering. Unable to steer it. Very dangerous. dealer says there IS a free replacement for fuel tank because of a defective vent. I never got a recall notice, apparently IS just 2006 dodge/chrysler issue. And spend thousands on new computer and other service to find out the cause. Found the defective vent issue on line - confirmed with dealer I purchased it at that tank issue IS covered. If there had been a recall for this dangerous issue, I would have had it fixed years ago. Vehicle IS located in duluth, mn/superior, wi area now
My dodge magnum stalls after filling up the fuel tank. It happens shortly after filling up and will continue until the car has been driven about 30 miles. It will stall regardless of what speed I am driving. It will restart after a couple tries.
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. While driving various speeds, fuel leaked onto the muffler. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact repaired the fuel line, but the failure continued. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 152,000.
Car stalls unexpectedly immediately after a fuel fill up. Problem clears up within 10 minutes of continuous driving.
I purchased a 2006 dodge magnum last week on 4/4/2019 odometer reading at 109, 545. 2 days after I purchased the car it needed fuel and I filled the gas tank. I then left the gas station. Within less than a mile the engine stalled as if it were trying to shut off. This happened 4 times within 1 minute and less than a mile from the gas station. Since I was merging onto a highway, I could not just pull over. I continued off the merge and into the highway. Then it stopped. With hesitation I continued down the highway. About 20 miles down the highway later and driving at the speed limit of 70 mph, I accelerated on the gas pedal to go up a small hill and maintain the speed limit of 70 mph. The car again tries to stall out and shut off and it continued to do this 3 more times. I had to drive yet another 50 miles to make it home and I was very uneasy the whole time. I did make it home without any additional insidents. The incident was very unsettling. I dread what happens the next time I put gas in it as this seemed to be the trigger of the incident. I went home to research the issue and sure enough this a common complaint among dodge magnum owners. Apparently there had been a recall for an issue with the gas tank. My vin does not show up or qualify for the recall but IS indeed having this shared problem. I feel it IS a major safety issue for anyone on the highway. Causing serious injury and or death to myself, my passengers and any other drivers on the road. This issue needs to be resolved and addressed! Especially after finding there are so many other 2006 dodge magnum owners having the same problem! To replace the gas tank by a certified dodge mechanic it will cost about $2,000 in parts and labor. How do I get help with this recall issue even though the vin on my car IS not showing it IS eligible or included in the recall??
Takata recall
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge magnum. After fueling the vehicle and traveling approximately 15 mph, the vehicle started to hesitate and shut off. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. After driving approximately one block, the failure recurred. An independent mechanic was able to restart the vehicle and it was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 58254079. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.
It's started making a loud clicking noise so I took it to the dealership and they said it was a sensor in the dash behind the steering column that keeps the exhaust from coming back inside the car. What should I do?
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE14-016 in June 2014 based on six inflator rupture incidents involving consumer owned vehicles produced by five vehicle manufacturers. All six vehicles were operated in Florida or Puerto Rico at the time of the rupture and for the majority of their service life, and were equipped with inflators produced by Takata, a tier-one supplier of automotive air bag systems.During the course of PE14-016, ODI determined that five additional vehicle manufacturers used inflators of a similar design and vintage also supplied by Takata. No evidence of field failures was found in vehicles produced by these five additional manufacturers.Nonetheless, at ODI's insistence, all 10 vehicle manufacturers initiated a regional recall within approximately two weeks of the opening of the investigation. The regions recalled initially included Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, areas with high absolute humidity and climatic conditions believed to be a significant factor in the inflator ruptures. As part of the recall actions, inflators removed from remedied vehicles are to be returned to Takata for testing.Takata's initial test results on passenger inflators from remedied vehicles indicated a much higher than anticipated rupture frequency for inflators returned from Florida.Accordingly ODI requested all 10 manufacturers expand the regional recalls for passenger inflators to include other geographic areas where high absolute humidity conditions exist, including the Gulf States and other coastal areas.Takata's testing of the passenger inflators to date continues to indicate this geographic area as having the highest risk, with no ruptures occurring from inflators returned from outside the expanded recall regions.During PE14-016 four additional passenger inflator field events occurred, all in vehicles from the same expanded geographic region. Also during PE14-016 four additional driver inflator field events occurred including two in vehicles from regions not known for high absolute humidity, specifically California and North Carolina.Accordingly, ODI requested all five of the affected vehicle manufacturers currently using the subject Takata driver inflators expand to nationwide recalls.Significantly, neither of the affected vehicle manufacturers or Takata provided any explanation to account for these two driver air bag inflator ruptures outside the area of high absolute humidity.Takata testing of returned driver inflators indicates a lower rupture frequency as compared to passenger inflator testing. All test ruptures reported by Takata to date have occurred on inflators returned from high absolute humidity areas. The investigation now includes all manufacturers and vehicles known to be affected at this time.ODI's investigation will focus on, among other things, root cause analysis, other potential defect consequences, identification of affected vehicles scope, and adequacy of the remedy. The five ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification numbers: 10537899, 10568848, 10585224, 10605877, 10651492

During PE13-016, Chrysler identified a condition in model year (MY) 2005 through 2006 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Magnum vehicles equipped with 5.7L and 6.1L 8-cylinder HEMI engines that may result in engine stall after refueling when the vehicle is stopped or travelling at low speeds. According to Chrysler, the multifunction control valve (MFCV) fuel shutoff float integrated into 19-gallon fuel tanks can swell in a stuck open position allowing an overfill condition. This condition causes fuel to enter into the purge line which may result in engine stall after refueling.Chrysler's investigation determined that the problem was related to dimensional changes/swelling of the float when exposed to fuels with high ethanol content.Chrysler and its supplier, Stant, developed new fuel soak test requirements to address the condition and extended the warranty period on 19-gallon fuel tanks to lifetime coverage. The owner letter mailing began in January 2014.See the investigative file for copies of Chrysler's owner letter. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed 1262 complaints related to engine stall that were provided by Chrysler or submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 299 unique reports indicating that the fuel system allowed an overfill condition after refueling, and the predominant failure mode identified involved stalling when stopped or travelling at low speeds. The complaint counts shown in this resume include incidents in which enough detail was available to verify the symptoms were related to the defect condition identified by Chrysler. The condition that is causing the majority of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles occurs at a stop or low speed and allows the vehicle to be restarted immediately. The condition represents a low risk to motor vehicle safety and is adequately addressed by Chrysler's extended warranty.
