Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain model year 2003-2006 Dodge and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans manufactured June 30, 2003, to August 31, 2006. The instrument cluster on the affected vehicles fails to illuminate the BRAKE warning lamp in the instrument cluster during the vehicle start up bulb-function check. As such, these…
Without the BRAKE lamp illuminating during the vehicle start up bulb-function check, the driver has no confirmation that the lamp is working and therefore may not know whether or not the lamp will illuminate if the brake fluid level is low. If the operator is unaware that the vehicle has low brake fluid, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
DVUSA will notify owners, and DVUSA and Dodge dealers will correct the instrument cluster software, as necessary, free of charge. An interim notification was sent to owners on January 6, 2017. A second notice will be mailed to owners once the remedy becomes available. The recall began on July 27, 2017. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-770-705-2070.

Sprinter IS recalling 10 my 2001-2006 dodge and freightliner 2500 and 3500 vehicles. the welding seam between the bracket and steering column of affected spare parts does not meet design specifications. the result of an out of specification welding seam IS that the steering column may detach from its interior vehicle mounting bracket.
The operator may lose steering ability of the vehicle increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and replace the steering columns free of charge. the recall IS expected to begin on or before february 16, 2009. owners may contact sprinter at 843-695-5057.
On certain trucks equipped with rear air conditioning system, the interior lamp IS equipped with an 18W lamp and a scattering lens. in extremely hot and humid conditions, the combination of heat and humidity, and the heat from the lamp due to extreme long term operation, can distort the scattering lens.
The switching contacts of the lamp may cause a short circuit of the rear lamp increasing the risk of a fire.
Dealers will replace the rear interior lamps free of charge with a modified version which IS not subject to the impacts of heat and humidity. the recall began on december 17, 2007. owners may contact daimlerchrysler manufacturing international at 1-843-695-5041.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500. The contact received notification of Emissions Recall T21 Reprogram Engine Control Unit. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and carbon monoxide fumes were coming into the cabin of the travel trailer and setting off the carbon monoxide alarm. Police have also warned the contact that there would be a fine for black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer informed the contact that they were not equipped with the tools or had technicians that could perform the recall repair. The dealer referred the contact to a Mercedes-Benz dealer. However, the Mercedes Benz dealer informed the contact that they only perform recall repairs on Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case but could not get a dealer to perform the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
Steering wheel is not too good and interior lighting lamp I have issues
T21 recall for emissions system not listed on your site
Vehicle was recalled for an emission control devise issue. I phoned the dodge dealer where I had my van serviced a few times to schedule the recall work. the service manager said they no longer service the 2006 dodge/mercedes sprinters. I went ahead and had my vehicle smog tested. It passed. I mailed my registration and payment. This IS not a safety issue. my vehicle passed the strict ca smog requirements. there IS no reason to recall my van or hold up my registration as an "incomplete renewal".
2006 dodge sprinter. Consumer writes in regards to emissions safety recall. *Ld *js
Emissions recall. Manufacturer fca totally unresponsive. Hours on phone. Dealers too cannot get response, vehicle computer shuts engine off on highway as engine detects problem. Truck can then be restarted usually. Fumes beginning. Europe suing manufacturer over this and epa may be.fca recall # IS T21
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge sprinter 2500. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 16v833000 (service brakes); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Gear shifter was able to be moved from park to neutral without the keys in the ignition or the "bypass" switch being pressed. A 5 year old was able to move the shifter into neutral without key in the ignition or pressing the bypass button which allowed the vehicle to roll down a hill.
The left drivers side electric window has a broken piece of nylon/plastic that IS about 11/2" x 1/2", that IS held in place by a rivet that appears to look like a nail head on the metal window regulator arm. this flimsy plastic part broke into two pieces which allows the arm of the window regulator to pop out of the track below the window, and the window falls down and stays open. when this happens it creates noise, allows bad weather to enter the vehicle, and creates a very distracting situation for driving, especially on the interstate highway system. there IS no fix for this small part only a new regulator with the same flimsy piece of plastic. the window regulator costs between $219 and $224 plus tax and shipping. the cost to install it IS another 200+ dollars. this regulator suffers from poor design and should not break on a vehicle (rv) that IS not used like personal transportation vehicle. my window opened slowly at 70mph on the freeway.
On more than 1 occasion, my vehicle died out while traveling on expressways. in all instances, the engine stopped working. Fortunately nobody was injured. the vehicle needs an engine replacement again and has less than 69,000 miles on it. *tr
I bought this van new in april 2006. The van came with an e.o.m. Roof a/c which IS the cause for the vehicle stalling when decelerating. The first time this happened was about 2 months after we bought the van. I reported this incident to the dealership and was told that dodge was aware of it and would issue a recall as soon as it has a fix - it never did. The current odometer reading IS 35,125 miles. The van was mostly driven short distances as I use it mainly to transport my wheelchair bound daughter to and from doctors and hospitals visits.time went by until it happened again. It appeared that the stalling, the engine suddenly shut off when the roof a/c IS running while the engine IS at a certain temperature. I contacted dodge which told me that my warranty had expired. It would cost approximately $1000 to install the "rear a/c idle cutout module". After doing some researches, I found out that there was a dodge service bulletin # 24-001-2009 dated april 24, 2009 with subject: idle instability - rear a/c idle cutout module installation. in my opinion the stalling was caused by a design flaw which the manufacturer should fix regardless of the warranty time limit. Could you help us with this issue? *js
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge sprinter 2500. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate. The vehicle was maneuvered to the shoulder and shut off. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,500.
Complaint for a 2006 dodge sprinter diesel (mercedes built) engine turbo resonator. this part has failed and been replaced three times since 2006. It fails without warning resulting in a sharp and unsafe drop in uphill speed, particularly in interstate and mountainous travel. *Tr
I was driving on a relatively flat road and heard a pop noise from the engine area and the vehicle lost approximately 40 to 60% engine power, I was able to get it to my home less than 5 miles distance, I got it into a shop for repairs and they were not an authorized warranty repair shop, which cost me $404. I then had the vehicle towed to an authorized repair facility approximately 35 miles away.
2006 dodge sprinter 2500 diesel. Passenger vehicle. Purchased brand-new in 2007. Approximately 34,000 miles. Vehicle went into limp mode 2 times. Would not go out of second gear. After shut down and restart vehicle ran normal. On numerous other occasions rpms would rise but vehicle didn't seem to be moving enough to warrant all that rev. As if transmission slipping. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge sprinter with goodyear wrangler silent armor tires, line size lt225/75/r16, the contact stated that all four tires experienced sidewall separation and they would blow up into a ball. The vehicle was inspected by a tire dealer and they advised him that there were no defects with the brand or line of tires. The tires were replaced as the contact stated that was the second replacement of the tires within six months. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2006 dodge sprinter 2500. The contact stated that the vehicle would independently decelerate from any speed without warning. The dealer replaced the turbo resonator yet the failure persisted. The dealer also replaced the air filter to no avail. The dealer acknowledged that the vehicle was losing power abnormally but could not provide an adequate repair. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
Resonator failure on a 2006 dodge sprinter (winnebago view). When the resonator breaks, it poses a significant danger of an accident occurring due to the sudden and complete loss of engine power. this sudden rapid deceleration without any warning sign of any kind causes a serious and unacceptable safety hazard not only to us but also to any other person on the road. It has broken down on may 17, 2007, may 27, 2009 and august 17, 2010. repair was made by replacing the resonator. *Tr
August 22, 2010, I was on I 25 in my winnebago itasca navion traveling at 60 to 70 mph and suddenly lost power. I stopped, got more diesel and started driving at lower speeds by still lost power and could barely climb hills. I was just limping along with my emergency flashers on hoping I wouldn't be rearended. the model IS 2006 with a mercedes/benz 5 cylinder turbo engine with 19,500 miles on it. this IS really dangerous. IS there a recall on this engine? *Tr
Resonator failed at 15,200 miles causing a dangerous situation. my sprinter was purchased from maxwell dodge in austin tx on my behalf by sportsmobile in austin who did an rv conversion on it. the nearest authorized dealer from my home IS moss brothers dodge in san bernardino ca they replaced the resonator on 9/18/09 with mileage at l5,308. with reports of multiple failures, including failures of a newer revision, I am concerned for my safety and others. my van IS used exclusively for camping, usually in remote mountain areas with narrow steep roads, often without guard rails which do not have areas to pull over or pass. this would endanger lives in the event of a resonator failure which makes the vehicle incapable of moving on an incline as well as dangerous on a freeway when it suddenly loses power. in my research I found an aluminum resonator which eliminates the problem. moss brothers dodge told me they have installed this resonator, however the customer has to provide it and sign a waiver because it does not have a filter. if a problem occurs with the turbo which IS determined to be caused by particles that got through the system, it would not be covered by the warranty. please advise me on how to handle this dangerous situation. Updated 10/26/10. *Lj updated 10/26/10 *tr
Sudden slow down due to lost of power on winnebage view/dodge sprinter. this has happened four times resulting in hazard to other drivers from sudden reduction in speed with no brake lights. three repairs made by dealers for same problem (turbin resonator) in 24,000 miles. the vehicle will continue to run but barely. the first incident was at 7,000 miles. the last at 24,000 miles. *Tr
My dodge sprinter, 2006, winnebago's turbo resonator has failed on me twice, 11-5-2007 and 5-28-2010. The failure IS fast and the sprinter goes down to 10 to 40 mph which IS very dangerous! chrysler has replaced the resonator both times but obviously it will fail again! *Tr
The seat belt retractor and srs lockup assembly in the 2006 dodge/ mercedes sprinter van IS prone to complete failure in hot climates. The return spring and lockup housing IS made of plastic which becomes disfigured and IS rendered inoperable and therefore unsafe, leaving the front occupants unknowingly unprotected. Many owners have replaced srs retractors with aftermarket belts. Unsuspecting owners must be notified of this impending failure. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge sprinter 2500. The contact stated that when he attempted to use the vehicle, he noticed a fire had taken place in the cabin of the around the instrument panel. The contact called the manufacturer and an investigator was sent out to look at the vehicle. The contact was informed that the failure was an isolated incident and they did not know what caused the fire. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were approximately 30,000.
Faulty turbo resonator on a motorhome dodge sprinter 2006 the problem with the power resonator IS that the speed IS suddenly reduced and other vehicle behind must brake or change IS short notice due to the reduced speed form an average of 65 miles to 20 miles in no time because of the power failure. this condition happened to me e times in the last 2 years, finally I changed the plastic faulty resonator for an aftermarket straight aluminum resonator , but with this change now I have more noise in the cabin. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
