Purchased 6 toyo ht open country tires. 4 of the 6 have seperated
Set of 5 uniroyal liberator tires purchased new, lt265-75-16 load range e, 2002 F-250 4X4 (oem size) *these tires are no longer available thru wal-mart where they were purchased and installed. the following occurrences were/are due to defective tires, not any actions committed by wal-mart, the installer/seller. owner of vehicle IS certified mechanic and maintains vehicle & tires to oem specs. at approx. 10,000 miles on tires, we embarked on an interstate highway trip from florida to idaho and back, traveling thru utah, noticed an imbalance at 70mph. entering idaho the imbalance now occurred at all speeds. Inspection of all tires revealed driver-side rear tire tread had a pronounced bulge a foot long in the center of tread. Spare tire was installed, and vehicle was driven to wal-mart in boise. (Manager verified tread/belt separation, tire still at 70psi.) replaced with goodyear wrangler same size. returning to florida, another imbalance occurred on the interstate in south-dakota. Inspection revealed driver-side front tread bulged and separating. That tire was replaced at wal-mart with a goodyear wrangler. traveling thru west-memphis, the entire passenger-side rear tire tread detached without warning and demolished the rear quarter panel and tail-light. (Tire did not blow-out/lose air pressure, 80 psi) vehicle was driven 3 miles on steel belt to hotel off of interstate. Spare tire was installed and vehicle was driven to wal-mart for 3 goodyear wranglers. all 3 incidents happened on interstate highway. tires were at correct air-pressure and installed correctly. tires were not/had not been overloaded. we saved the tread separation tire carcass and the 2 remaining "good" tires.
My 2002 F250 superduty with 7.3L diesel will not turn at parking speeds and higher speeds if applying the brake. I have contacted ford and other owners with the same vehicle and they all say it IS consistent with the 7.3L powered superduty trucks. I believe this IS a very dangerous condition and do not want to be put into a position where I may hurt somebody due to a faulty designed steering system. increasing rpm does not help. my talking to experts has found the general consensus to be that the hydro boost pump does not produce enough volume and was a poor design released to the public. my research on the issue also found that thousands of customers complained early on and because there were no deaths it was dismissed as a non issue. I think this needs to be addressed as I have only 40,000 miles and this IS a dangerous condition that has only fortunately not caused any deaths that I'm aware of.
Traveling on a busy highway at 65 mph; the spark plug on my 5.4L V8 triton blew out of its socket. (Any mechanic will tell you everything you want to know about this) this caused an immediate bang and very rough running condition. as soon as it happened; there was an immediate loss of power which in turn; caused a rapid reduction in vehicle speed. not to mention, the distraction that occurred that caused the lack of focus on surrounding vehicles and other possible hazards. this IS the second occurrence of a separate spark plug blowing out of its socket on the same motor. this will cost several thousand in repairs after all IS said and done. on top of the money spent repairing the last incident. there IS a documented history of this situation with the more extreme having fire issues. the fire IS because atomized fuel IS sprayed into the engine compartment due to there being a hole where the spark plug IS supposed to be. there was no crash, fire or injury in this case. however, it was close to having all three. *tr
This accelerator pedal was replaced by ford in a factory recall on april 2011. at the time the original pedal worked fine but it was changed our anyway. the replacement pedal failed on 12/15/14. during failure, the vehicle engine completely loses power and goes back to idle. during certain maneuvers this IS a very dangerous situation, such as accelerating to merge on the freeway or pulling out from a stop sign in traffic. I have read of many instances where this has happened to other ford owners. ford needs to come up with a replacement that IS reliable as this IS a key component to safe vehicular travel. *tr
Vehicle can shift out of park when key IS in "accessories" mode without putting pressure on brake pedal. *tr
After backing my camping trailer into my driveway after a 4 hour trip I noticed fuel on the trailer tongue and smelled a strong smell of diesel. Looking under the truck while it was still running I observed diesel fuel pouring out on the ground from the motor. I quickly shut the motor off before a fire resulted from the hot motor. Later, after searching for the source of the leak it was found that a metal clip that was secured around a steel fuel line and had rubbed through the line causing fuel to leak out on top of the motor. *tr
My F-250 ford diesel truck caught fire while it was parked. Electronic brake control ABS module burned and cruised control stopped working. Wiring harness was burned away from the ABS module. *tr
Vehicle security module- this module controls door locks ( fob & vehicle in motion auto door locks), auto headlamps, safety door ajar indicators, all interior electrical auto lamp & radio features. All these items on vehicle are inoperative due to faulty module (vsm). False safety indications are being displayed. Original part # IS 2c7t-15k602-aj, replacement part # IS 4c7z-15604-ac. Vehicle has been at dealership almost (2) months. Informed vehicle non-repairable due to unavailability of part from ford motor company. This IS a safety item ! according to on-line web-sites, high volume of owners are experiencing similar problems. Since this a safety issue ( door ajar indicator & auto head light turning off while driving), please advise remedy. Ford dealership or ford motor co has not shown any interest in repair or part availability. *tr
Spark plug ejected from head, came out with such force as to break the coil on the fuel rail, shatter the spark plug and disintegrated the spark plug boot. Had to tap larger hole and install threaded insert so a new spark plug could be threaded into head and torqued to specs. Replaced the coil and boot and reinstall the fuel rail and injectors to make the truck serviceable again. *tr
Spark plug in cylinder #2 blew out of head taking the threads with it. this again happened 6 days later with cylinder #4. I checked internet and discovered that there had been multiple situations where this has occurred with at least 3 of fords engines. mine IS the V10 engine. called the dealer I ordered the truck from and they informed me there wasn't a recall and since my engine was out of warranty they would not be able to fix it except at my cost. they referred me to ford customer service. they took my information but said they would not repair it. according to fords technical service bulletin tsb 07-21-2 this has been a problem and if your truck IS under warranty they would replace the heads. if not under warranty they recommend how to repair it at customer cost. this IS not right. the spark plug being blown out of a defective head IS a fire hazard and major problem. you have a hot cylinder without any fuel being captured in an enclosed area. the plug could spark causing a fire within the engine compartment. ford should have to replace the heads with heads that are not defective. *Tr
Went to start my truck and that's when the spark plug blew out. *tr
Injector drive module (idm), diesel 7.3 navistar engine. idm failed where the likely cause was water infiltration of the device with sudden catastrophic results which included a sudden significant loss of engine power, inability to maintain highway speed, inability to keep speed above 5 miles per hour, and demonstration of sever roughness during attempts to rev the engine or idle loads. due to the idm failure, three of eight fuel injectors were rendered nonfunctional and replaced; also the actual number of injectors that were online or offline during the idm failure to engine shut-down period was unknown. during the idm failure to engine shut-down period of ~3 miles, the vehicle's obdii system did not illuminate any dashboard indicators despite the engine's inability to function normally. idm was operated in manufacturer's oem configuration, without modifications, and under normal conditions. all parts sent directly from mechanic shop to suppliers under core replacement requirements. subsequent research on vehicle owner's forms and conversation with mechanic show failure of the idm due to water penetration / infiltration IS known and ranges in indications from mine (sudden sever power loss) to complete power loss / engine stop. *tr
While traveling down interstate at 65 mph with speed control engaged, when hitting brake to begin slow down to exit up ramp, I pressed the brake to disengage the speed control, however the truck began to accelerate even when depressing the off button for speed control. vehicle continued to accelerate, so I had to put transmission into neutral and pull over until vehicle slowed. *tr
Spark plug blowout. *tr
The #9 spark plug shot out 9000 miles after the ford dealership replaced all 10 plugs for $270. I was told by all private garages and mechanics locally that the ford dealership had to replace the plugs otherwise they would shoot out. (Glad I used the ford dealership) when I contacted the ford dealership about the failure, they told me that they would have it towed in and be able to fix it for around $350.00. When I explained to them that I thought they should guarantee their work and fix it for free, I think I made them laugh. if and when I get this truck fixed and sold, I will never ever by a ford product again. *tr
Thrown spark plug from 2002 F-250. *Tr
I have a 2002 ford F250 that in the last year has blown out the sparkplugs 3 different times. I have bought the replacement kit for it each time and I am still having the problem. *Tr
On wednesday, february 25, 2009, my 2002 ford F-250 sd crew cab suffered a catastrophic loss of braking power. I went through a red light, three lanes of on-coming cross traffic, and could have killed someone or been killed. I had the vehicle towed to suburban ford in sterling heights, michigan. the cause of the problem was the main brake line from the master cylinder had rusted through. how could such an important part of the vehicle's safety system be made out of ferrous metal, leaving it vulnerable to the elements? I thought there was supposed to be redundancy in the braking system to prevent total failure? obviously, this vehicle has a design flaw that must be dealt with. I would like ford should reimburse me $409.59 for the cost of the repair. this severe safety problem could have caused loss of life or tens of thousands of dollars worth of property damage. tragedy has been avoided this time, but what if there was a school bus unloading children or a train crossing the road? surely, there would be a product liability lawsuit costing a lot more than $409.59. please mail payment to the address above. I would like to settle this matter without involving any external agencies. ford denied my request. the feel this IS a warranty issue and that the warranty has expired. this IS a product liability claim. ford would be sued if property damage or personal injury/death occurred. since this prt IS not listed on the "routine maintenance" schedule, how IS the vehicle owner supposed to check this part? *Tr
Original spark plug was ejected from the engine thread on the head was destroyed. Dealer said it IS a known issue, but there IS no recall issued. Well, there should be one !!! *tr
For 5.4L V8 triton SOHC 1999-2002 spark plug blow out from cylinder head. Its not been two years and this IS the 3RD time it has happened at a cost to me of $4600. Plug installed in assembly blew out, had repaired, it blew out, had it repaired again by a certified ford dealer. It lasted month & half. Now want to replace cylinder head with same poor design head putting me back where I was 3 plugs ago and ready to spend $4600. More. There IS only 4 threads holding any and all plugs. Design flaw. I work in aviation, if our blades started blowing out, they would go through the cabin killing passengers and then plane would crash killing those left. There would be a gov investigation on one incident. Please check to see that thousands of other consumers have had this happen. They will recall for cruise control but not for poor design cylinder heads. What good IS a vehicle without an engine? *tr
2002 F250 blowing out spark plugs. *tr
This IS a problem with f series diesel trucks. I have the 7.3 liter engine which IS in many trucks. the failure occurs without warning. The engine simply stops. usually,in my truck, it "restarts" by itself. if it does, the vehicle bucks. when it does not "restart", the engine IS now off and I have to shift into neutral and crank the engine. in the meantime, I have no power steering and no power brakes. this IS very dangerous in a crew cab, four wheel drive, diesel pick up truck. the last failure, some time in december, was at 30 miles per hour as I was about to enter I95 in biddeford, me. I crossed over the highway westbound on the entrance ramp and the truck died just as I hit the curve which rotates you 270 degrees to enter the southbound lane. I had all I could do to crank the wheel over and make the sharp turn. this problem IS due to the cps or cam position sensor. it IS a common problem. just look in www.dieselstop.com at the forums. drivers are carrying spares in the glove box!!! I am lucky that my problem IS intermittent. for some folks, the truck dies and never restarts. my truck exhibits the problem every few weeks. this IS a serious safety problem and needs to be addressed. the financial issues are also an unfair burden on the customer but the safety aspect of losing power at a critical moment IS much worse. *nm
2002 ford F-250 5.4L motor. Blew spark plug on drivers side 2ND one from front out of vehicle. *nm
Upon trying to leave parking lot vehcile failed to excellerate. There was no reaction when the excellerator was pressed. problem was intermitten and we made it home. but, the problem comes and goes with out notice making it very dangerous to pull out into traffic
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a december 3, 2007 letter, ford advised nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall to replace the cam position sensor (cps) in approximately 1.2 million subject vehicles to address reports of engine stalling.a new design cps with improved performance and durability will be installed as a remedy.owner notifications will begin in december 2007. The subject vehicles are durable, full-sized, medium duty trucks commonly used for commercial purposes, rescue/emergency response, and commercial or recreational towing.cps failure IS comparable to unexpectedly turning the key off since the signal it produces IS vital to the electronic engine control system.cps signal loss terminates fuel injection resulting in an engine stall.once stalled, the engine may restart right away, or may restart after a delay (typically 5 to 10 minutes), or may not restart at all.in addition to exposing the driver and other motorists to crash risk due to loss of motive power or vehicle disablement, engine stalling also effects the power assisted steering and braking. Through consumer interviews, odi determined that cps failures occurred without any form of warning, at any vehicle speed (50% at highway speeds), and under any driving condition, such as accelerating.consumers reported that about a third of the vehicles failed to restart, with another third reporting delayed restarting.half the vehicles that did restart experienced another stall on the same or a subsequent drive cycle (before cps replacement) re-exposing those consumers to the risks associated with a stalling event.in their voq reports, half of the odi complainants described difficulty controlling the vehicle due to lose of power assist systems, especially those who were towing at the time of the incident. The one alleged injury incident occurred in an intersection when a subject vehicle stalled while turning across oncoming lanes of traffic.although unsubstantiated, the complainant alleged an injury to a child occupant during odi's interview.the other crash allegations mostly involved low speed, loss of control incidents often caused by lack of power assist; no injuries are reported in these incidents, and property damage, if any, was minimal.consumers also reported other incidents with significant safety risks, such as disablement in a lane or on a shoulder of a high-speed roadway or interstate, or extended disablement in remote areas during severe weather conditions. The population above IS ford's estimate of the 1.4 million subject vehicles produced that are currently registered.the ford complaint and warranty counts noted above are current as of ford's last submission dated june 21, 2007; they do not include F-450, F-550, or econoline counts as these products were not formally within scope of the investigation when failure information was requested.warranty data analysis indicates that about half the claims involved a stall while driving event ( ford's assessment) and that poor cps durability was a longstanding concern.ford reported that the new cps design should meet or exceed their 10 year, 150K mile life expectancy design requirement.
On september 6, 2005, odi received a petition requesting that the agency investigate allegations of engine spark plug ejection in certain model year 1997 through 2004 ford vehicles with triton V-8 and V-10 engines.odi received a total of 474 non-duplicative complaints on the subject vehicles where the complainant, or the dealer repairing the vehicle, reported that a spark plug detached from the cylinder and/or ejected from the engine.as of december 8, 2005, odi IS not aware of any allegations where the alleged defect resulted in a loss of vehicle control, a crash, an injury, or a fatality in any of the 10,319,810 subject vehicles.in addition, odi IS aware of only two incidents where the vehicle stalled without restart.information contained in the odi consumer complaints and obtained from 72 telephone interviews with complainants showed the following:(1) 99% of the complaints were on my 1997 to 2002 subject vehicles.(2) most the complainants reported hearing a loud pop while driving or upon starting up the vehicle followed by a loud, repetitive clicking or popping sound.(3) many of the complainants reported that the popping sound was accompanied by some loss of vehicle power; however, in 99% of the incidents reported, the vehicle did not stall.in the very few incidents where the vehicle did stall, most vehicles could be restarted.(4) only a small percentage of the complainants cited that they smelled gas or a slight burning smell when the incident occurred.(5) in all but a very few incidents, vehicle damage was limited to the engine.in one incident, the complaint reported that the fuel rail was damaged and replaced after one of the spark plugs ejected from the engine; however, the complainant reported that the damage did not result in any type of fuel leak or fire.in another incident, the only incident where a fire was alleged, the complainant reported that no fluid leak was observed, but that a fire resulted after the spark plug had ejected from the engine and he had restarted the vehicle and driven to another location.none of the complainants reported any damage to the vehicle hood.(6) only two complainants reported that they observed what appeared to be some drops of fuel coming from the cylinder where the spark plug had failed or on the spark plug itself; however, each of these complainants reported that there was no smoke or flames as a result of his incident.as the petitioner noted, and odi?s analysis showed, it IS possible for a spark plug to detach from the engine cylinder threads in the subject vehicles.however, odi?s analysis of 474 complaints describing such incidents found only a very few alleged any safety-related consequences.none of these showed any evidence of a serious safety consequence.given the large population and relatively long exposure time of the subject vehicles, the complaint analysis indicates that the risk to motor vehicle safety from the alleged defect IS very low.in view of the foregoing, it IS unlikely that nhtsa would issue an order for the notification and remedy of the alleged defect at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa?s limited resources to best accomplish the agency?s safety mission, the petition IS denied.
Failure counts from odi?s analysis are stated above; see the additional problem experience discussion in the summary report.ford data contained duplicative reports for 4 odi complaints and 1 crash.three crashes were allegedly due to intermittent operation of the electronic throttle control (etc) pedal, one crash occurred when an etc disabled vehicle was struck by another motorist, one report contained no detail.the injuries were minor.an issue involving fixed etc pedals was investigated also, however failure reports and populations are not shown above; see summary report for detail.although ford has used etc based throttle control systems for many years, the pap feature was new for my 2002.the subject etc sensor produces two output signals which the engine management system (ems) utilizes TO:1) determine fueling requirements; and 2) perform sensor diagnostics.one signal IS linearly proportional to throttle pedal position; the second IS a digital signal.by design, the detection of a sensor fault results in the engine returning to (or remaining at) the idle state.ford identified a defect in the pap etc sensor which prematurely affected an output signal; the migration of internal sensor lubricant caused a loss of proportional signal.the failure mechanism IS progressive and as the sensor deteriorates, the ems will detect a fault, store a fault code, illuminate a warning lamp, and the engine may remain at/return to idle.in the early stages, normal operation can be regained by pedal re-application.the failure progresses until the engine remains at idle.the engine does not stall, power assisted steering and braking systems are unaffected. Ford corrected the etc sensor defect and conducted field service action (fsa) 03b03 to replace etc pedals, addressing 50% of vehicles.at agency request to improve completion rate, ford extended fsa 03b03 for 6 months.based on odi's analysis of available data, ford's action has appropriately resolved the etc sensor proplem in the subject vehicles.the closing of the investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist, and should not be considered as having any precedential value or effect binding the agency in future defect investigations. See the attached summary report for additional information.
The subject vehicles for this investigation include model year 2002 and 2003 excursion and f super duty trucks equipped with 7.3L diesel engines and an optional power adjustable pedal (pap) feature.the subject vehicles utilize an electronic throttle control (etc) system to control engine speed and power.the accelerator pedal position sensor of the etc system was replaced under ford's field service action (fsa) 03b03 (announced in february 2003) due to concerns that it may not operate as designed and as a result, may cause the vehicle to continue to idle or unexpectedly slow when the accelerator IS applied.certain complaint and warranty information related to the vehicles involved in fsa 03b03 has not been provided by ford, as discussed in detail in ford's response letter (dated december 2, 2003) to odi's preliminary evaluation information request.this additional information, which IS required to adequately assess the safety implications of the alleged defect, will be obtained and analyzed during the engineering analysis phase of the investigation.the manufacturer failure report counts will be determined at that time.
