Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
1 recall names the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. Newest first.
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick Hybrid and 2020 Escape Hybrid vehicles. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) software may cause the vehicle to shift into neutral unexpectedly, causing a loss of drive power.
A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the HPCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 12, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S33. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 15, 2026. This is an expansion of Recalls 24V330 (24S33) and 25V133 (25S16).
in the ford maverick hybrid, ford has been aware of parasitic drain issues related to its software in the ABS braking system and it air condition system which causes degradation of the battery. there are service messages sent to ford dealerships regarding these issues (SM 55215, SSM 53801, SSM 54785). There are incidences of Ford dealerships upgrading software, upgrading batteries, and dealing with these as warranty issues. The effects cause no start situations and gear shift lockups with engine limp modes enacted. Through various Maverick owners and forums this has been seen in multiple vehicles. This can create dangerous issues if the system fails in the middle of driving on highways and stranding individuals in remote or unserviceable areas is apparent and with Ford providing service messages to dealership mechanics. It is apparent that it is something in ford's manufacturing process. The outcome to recall should not wait for a dangerous event or death to create said recall, but promote proactive response to the dangers created by faulty software that was created at Ford adn endanger the consumer purchasing their product as this not only affects them but also all others around them as we all travel the highways together.
Trunk had dead battery upon startup Back in March something happened and dealer stated the truck needed a software update, which they preformed but now I have the same problem
The front 2024 Ford Maverick passenger CV axle has failed, currently leaking grease. Ford has not rolled out a recall for the 2024 Ford Maverick, unlike the prior Maverick years. The vehicle produces the same symptoms as described in the 2022 recall of Ford Mavericks with aggressive shaking from 45mph-60mph. This renders the vehicle a safety hazard as it alters the way the vehicle drives.
The contact owns a 2024 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that after parking uphill, the contact exited the vehicle and lowered the tailgate to unload the bed; however, the vehicle unexpectedly rolled backward downhill, causing the tailgate to hit a tree and crash into a railing. The vehicle was driven away from the crash site. The insurance company was notified of the failure, and the tailgate was replaced at a collision center. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V863000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
I am reporting a recurring shudder/vibration condition in my 2024 Ford Maverick XL Hybrid. The vehicle currently has approximately 62,241 miles. The problem occurs during acceleration, generally between approximately 15 and 60 mph and started at just over 60,000 miles. The vehicle develops a pronounced shudder/vibration that feels similar to driving over a rough road or a rumble strip. The condition is repeatable and occurs during normal driving and acceleration. There are currently no warning lights illuminated and, to my knowledge, no diagnostic trouble codes have been identified. I am concerned that this may represent a drivetrain or transmission-related defect that could affect the safe operation of the vehicle, particularly if the condition worsens or results in a loss of smooth or predictable acceleration. I have become aware of Ford SSM 54797, which was issued in 2026 and addresses 2022–2026 Ford Maverick vehicles equipped with the 8F35 transmission. The service message states that affected vehicles may exhibit a shudder condition, most noticeable at speeds below 60 mph, with no relevant diagnostic trouble codes stored in the powertrain control module. It identifies the torque converter as a possible cause and provides a repair procedure involving the torque converter and related transmission components. The symptoms I am experiencing appear similar to the condition described in this Ford service communication. The vehicle is now just outside its applicable warranty coverage, which also makes it important to me that the condition be documented with NHTSA. I am requesting that NHTSA record this complaint and consider whether similar complaints involving the 2022–2026 Ford Maverick indicate a broader safety-related defect or trend.
1. 50% of my braking results in grinding stop where it jumps and doesn’t stop all the way at first, this is even driving at slow speeds of 25 mph. 2. When my truck was set on cruise control approx 70mph and all of a sudden started decelerating on its own and nothing I did made it accelerate. I had to coast/slow brake to pull over, cut the car off and then restart it to begin driving again.
Defective spot welds of interior door hinges bind resulting in destruction of 3 remaining spot welds making door inoperable, not closing correctly, damaging other hinge and locking mechanisms. Local and corporate denied. out of warranty at 42645 miles.
I was driving at approx. 40 to 45 mph and in the process of braking for slowing traffic and the vehicle slammed on the brakes and left a short skid mark. I was about 50 feet behind the vehicle and braking when this occurred. I was lucky that the car behind did not rear end me. The collision alert did come on the dash at the same time it slammed on the brakes.
"This is a formal complaint for an Inadequate Recall Remedy and severe Consequential Damage regarding NHTSA Campaign #24V684000 (Ford Recall 24S59) on my 2024 Ford Maverick XL (65,000 miles, VIN: [XXX]).The official safety recall update was originally performed at 30,000 miles by a Ford mobile service unit, but the remedy completely failed. The Audio Control Module software remains corrupted, causing a severe intermittent parasitic drain. The radio frequently locks up, and roughly once a week, it remains actively powered on for 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off, keys are removed, and doors are locked. This has permanently destroyed my 12-volt battery, forcing me to rely on a trickle charger daily. On XXX, I took the truck to Mt. Orab Ford (Ohio) under Invoice #XXX for a separate recall (Ford 26C10). They completed the hitch recall but explicitly refused to address the failed safety recall 24S59 or the resulting battery damage. The official invoice they handed me falsely logs line item B as 'GBATT BATTERY TESTED GREEN AT THIS TIME.' However, I forced the Service Manager, Kevin Wilmoth, to physically verify the battery in the parking lot. The handheld tester printout he handed me directly contradicts their official invoice, explicitly stating 'GOOD RECHARGE' with a resting voltage of only 12.16V and a 45% State of Charge. A healthy 12V battery should rest between 12.6V and 12.8V; at 12.16V with a 45% charge, the system is severely drained and starved for power. The dealership printed 'Tested Green' on the invoice before actually testing it, and Kevin Wilmoth has since refused my email request for copies of the vehicle's OASIS history and FDRS global diagnostic logs to withhold the electronic record of these faults.Contacted Ford Corp., given a claim #, promised call back in 24hrs.completely failed to respond, leaving me stranded with a severe, un-remedied safety hazard. My 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid rolled backward while in park. I push-started the truck and then turned on the A/C to start cooling the cabin. I left the driver’s side door open as I stepped out to begin loading my 8-month-old baby’s stroller. The open door bumped my back, so I quickly jumped back into the vehicle to press the brake. The truck eventually stopped, but not before the door folded out and scraped the entire side of a parked car. I called the police to make a report.
This is a corrected supplement to my prior NHTSA complaints #XXX and #XXX for the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid, VIN [XXX]. It corrects the mileage in # XXX: the odometer at the XXX collision was approximately 68,000 miles (a current reading was auto-populated into the incident field on the prior form), and the vehicle's current odometer is 119,379 miles. I request that the Office of Defects Investigation open a Preliminary Evaluation of the Maverick Hybrid braking/ABS system. I first reported a braking concern to the selling Ford dealer in spring 2025 at approximately 35,000 miles, while the vehicle was still under the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty; Ford's applicable service bulletin (MC-XXX) was not applied. Ford's OASIS system later confirmed active fault codes C052E and U0418 when the vehicle was returned to me unrepaired on XXX6. The defect has persisted through four repair attempts and more than 50 days out of service. On XXX, another vehicle crossed multiple lanes of traffic across my path. I applied the brakes and the vehicle did not stop as it should have, and I struck the crossing vehicle (APD Crash Report # XXX; I was assigned no driver error). This loss of stopping capability is the same failure mode I have experienced repeatedly and that remains unrepaired. Ford's own recall record documents its knowledge of Maverick braking-system defects: Recall 22V-730 addressed the Maverick ABS module transmitting an incorrect signal; Recall 25V-124 was a follow-up after Ford determined the earlier software remedy had not been correctly installed even though dealer records showed the repair completed, and Ford disclosed to NHTSA in December 2024 that dealer software-repair records could be inaccurate. Ford issued Recall 25V-488 for loss of power brake assist on several model-year-2025 vehicles but did not include the Maverick, and issued a limited Maverick Electronic Brake Booster recall des INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving, the red "BRAKE" light remains illuminated on the dashboard, and a "service brakes" warning message appears on the screen. This can be dismissed and the vehicle drives normally, except under sudden/heavy braking conditions. Under these conditions, the brakes make a grinding, thumping noise and the vehicle does not brake adequately. I suspect power braking was lost. I had to stop suddenly for a stoplight a few times, and the vehicle continued into the intersection before making a complete stop despite very heavy braking pressure applied to the pedal. The dealership replaced the brake booster, which they said was a "known issue". This was fixed at my expense.
While driving at highway speed on I-275with cruise control engaged on afternoon of June 11 the truck suddenly began slowing down. I couldn't get it to accelerate. I ultimately had to get over two lanes and still had enough momentum to get off an exit ramp. At the end of the ramp, I noticed I was unable to get the truck to accelerate from a stopped position either. Only then did I notice the dial transmission had moved to N from D. I did not initiate this move while I was on the highway, nor was I aware of it, nor do I believe I bumped the dial. This is the second time this has happened. Previously it occurred some time in late 2025 in a store parking lot. At highway speeds, this is extremely dangerous.
SENCE PURCHACED the truck has a tie rod rattle, I have spoken to dealership and was informed no issue found. But as of late Vehicle wobbles very harshly when execrating or pulling away from stop signs passing another vehicle. Turns out it's a VERY common CV axle issue that the dealership doesn't have any sort of recall on. Feels very very unsafe to drive and its disappointing to see so many other drivers with the exact same issue with the tie rod ends. Now a recall on some of the mavericks suspension AKA tie rod installed wrong/ defective with a DO NOT DRIVE WARNING?
My 2024 Ford Maverick (VIN [XXX] ) has had three sudden losses of drive power while driving. Each time the accelerator stopped delivering power with NO warning lights, no error messages, and no dashboard indicators before, during, or after. Each time I pulled over, shut off the vehicle, and restarting fully restored normal function. Incident 1 — Aug 2024, two-lane highway, New Mexico. Clear, ~80°F, light traffic, ~60 mph. Accelerator suddenly lost power, no indicators. Pulled to shoulder; restart restored function. Incident 2 — XXX, ~6:10 PM, XXX northbound on-ramp from [XXX] . While accelerating up the ramp to merge, power cut out — same behavior, no warnings. Pulled over; restart restored function. Incident 3 —XXX, ~8:05 AM, [XXX] . Slowed for a turn; no power when I accelerated out. Same signature. These symptoms are identical to NHTSA Recall 24V-267 (Ford 24S24) — loss of motive power from the BCM/PCM failing to detect 12V battery degradation — and the follow-on battery recall 25V-158 (Ford 25S26). My vehicle is a 2024 Maverick and is NOT included in 24V-267, which Ford limited to 2022-2023 Mavericks built Feb 2021–Oct 2022. I am reporting because my 2024 shows the identical failure mode, including the total absence of warning before power loss, matching the owner reports that prompted Recall Query RQ24014 into the adequacy of the 24V-267 remedy. I request NHTSA consider whether the affected population should include model year 2024 Mavericks. These events are recurring and have occurred at highway speed and while merging, creating a serious crash risk. Over the past 1-1/2 years I have experienced my transmission going into neutral and loss of power 4 times. The first time it happened I thought my hand hit the shifter and moved it into neutral. After a few more incidents and seeing the recall, I realized this was the cause of the issue. I noticed the NHTSA website has recall number 25V881000. Today I contacted Ford Motor Company regarding this recall and they do not show it against my 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. I have experienced the problem as indicated below and have not received a recall letter on this. Was my VIN left out of this recall? The contact owns a 2024 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that on several occasions, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral(N). There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stopped the vehicle and shifted the vehicle back into drive. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
Slow speed brakes shudder or grab way to hard causing vehicle to stop abruptly and clunk.
I started the car and my engine wont turn on only hybrid system. The maintience lightand engine light appear with fuel door open error and traction off and driver assitance off . I then jump started truck . Truck engine then turned on and same errors lights still appeared . But I was able to shift into gear now with jump start . how ever truck would not accelerate when I push gas pedal . But if I let go of the brakes , the truck will slowly accelerate on its on . And speed up to 30-40 mph with out pressing the gas .
On November 9th, the vehicle became undrivable with the following alerts: "Stop safely now", "Pre-collision assist not available", "Check Brake System", "Front Camera Temporarily not available", "service vehicle soon", "service advance trac", "hill start assist not available" The accelerator was non-functional; however, when releasing the brake pedal the vehicle starts to accelerate, without pressing the accelerator. Dealer said they are unable to reproduce the event. This is the second time this has occurred with this vehicle, previously submitted complaint on this same VIN.
Restraints indicator warning lamp for passenger side went off repeatedly in August (four times). Took into dealership where they replaced what they said was a faulty seatbelt tensioner. Now, the same indicator warning is going off again, two times, 9/28, 10.4. Either the part is still bad, or the sensor is defective. I suspect the latter, but it's hard to know.
The contact owns a 2024 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that the front driver's side door middle hinge was not properly welded. The contact stated that the front driver's side door was not properly welded when the vehicle was manufactured. The contact stated that the failure caused issues while rolling down the window. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the failure was confirmed. The contact was informed that the driver's side front door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer agreed to a 40 percent discount on the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
At approximately 42K miles, front wobble upon acceleration. Front axels replaced under 60k power train warranty

In September 2024, Ford Motor Company filed a safety recall (NHTSA recall 24V684) covering certain MY 2022-2024 Ford Maverick vehicles equipped with a Connected Touch Radio (CTR). For these vehicles, the rear-view camera may freeze while the vehicle is in reverse.A frozen image can provide false information for the driver, increasing the risk of a crash. As a remedy, dealers will update the CTR software in affected vehicles. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 5 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging frozen rear-view camera images following the remedy of recall 24V684 in a subset population of Maverick and Maverick Hybrid vehicles equipped with the CTR. The complaints report a frozen rear-view camera image while in reverse. Further, ODI is aware of a redacted number of related failures reported to ODI by Ford. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to evaluate the remedy effectiveness and scope of recall 24V684 to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition on July 20, 2026, which was dated July 7, 2026, requesting a defect investigation into the intermittent loss of braking on Model Year (MY) 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid vehicles. The petition alleges intermittent loss of antilock and regenerative braking associated with certain fault codes that led to a collision event. The petitioner highlights that the condition persisted through four repair attempts and over 50 days out of service. Furthermore, the petition alleges that MY 2024 was improperly excluded from related Ford brake-control software recalls. This defect petition has been opened to evaluate whether to grant or deny the petition. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI number 11751762.
