Dealers will replace the wiper motor circuit board and cover. owner notification began on june 19, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537.
These vehicles were assembled with the left-hand lower control arm-to-frame rear nut not tightened to the specified torque.
Low torque can allow the attachment bolt to loosen and subsequently fatigue and break. This can result in separation of the left-hand control arm from the frame increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Dealers will tighten the left-hand lower control arm-to- frame rear nut to the proper torque specification.
The fuel lines attached to the fuel tank were not properly tightened.
These fuel lines can loosen to the point of allowing fuel to leak from the lines resulting in a vehicle fire.
Dealers will lower the fuel tank and tighten the fuel tank lines to the proper torque value.
Was driving to work about 25mph than all of a sudden lost acceleration was able to slowly drive to a parking lot but ended up having towed to my mechanic which I was in formed the engine had seized but could smell gas and the fuel had collected in the oil which was changed, after further consideration had it towed to my home.tried starting it runs anywhere between 10 or 15 seconds , had the starter checked working great so about 2 months I just have it parked looking for solutions.i had it for about 9 years with day to day driving to work and occasionally on the highway. *tr
1995 GMC safari. Consumer states the rear springs are carbon fiber and have delaminated. *tgw the consumer stated it caused an unstable condition while driving at highway speeds as the vehicle's body was not properly supported and could drop onto the frame at any time, which could result in an uncontrollable behavior of the vehicle and cause an accident. *Jb
I have a 95 GMC safari that was equiped with dexcool coolant. I have replaced all the freezeout plugs, that have been eaten away by the coolant. There are several law suits but none of them include safari or astro vans. Are there any lawsuits that include vans. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1995 GMC safari. while the vehicle was parked in the garage, the front torsion bar on the front driver side snapped in half. the entire driver side front end dropped down on the tire. the contact called gm and was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty and that he would be responsible for the repair. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 156,000 and failure mileage was 144,000.
Crash impact was to the front corner/bumper of the vehicle in front of the driver coming from the side , the driver's left. driver's airbag did not deploy.*ak
Significant loss of steering and braking response due to failure of alternator bracket that resulted in serpentine belt falling off that resulted in loss of power steering and power brakes. vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic lane and then off the road. vehicle was towed to repair facility that day. alternator bracket was replaced the following day. failed part at repair facility. *jb
1995 GMC safari left rear tire separated. *ts the consumer lost control of the vehicle and struck a fence. *Jb
95 GMC safari/95 chevy astro I have owned 3 of these models since 1995 and have experienced the same problem with all 3 of them. the fusible link connection located behind the battery where power goes into the fuse panel has one connection that overheats, melts the plastic module and creates a circuit problem. total loss of power while driving has occurred, totally crippling the vehicles. upon searching salvages for a replacement connector, I found 4 out of 5 had the same overheated, melted plastic, dangerous connection. I have the connector I replaced on 1 of the vehicles and can provide it to the investigation. this situation could potentially lead to a fatal accident. total electrical power means engine quits, lights go out at night, power steering and power brakes are inoperable. this truly needs further investigations to protect the lives of owners/operators of these vehicles. *nm
I bought a used van from florida auto exchange on april 18,2005 and when we test drove it I stated that there was a vibration in the front I was told they would check it out . Nothing, I then had the vehicle looked at again in may again nothing ,well I was driving over a bridge today going about 65 mph when the tread came off my front passengers side tire. I almost wrecked but I controlled the van. Now the car dealer IS telling me that this IS not there concern that it IS a defect in the tires .i need someone to help .now they are telling me the van IS unsafe to drive because the back tire IS bubbling and I must replace all the tires .i also need a rim and there IS body damage to my vehicle. Plus the dealer IS charging me for towing because the spare they gave me with the van didnt fit.....
The consumer owns a 1995 GMC safari. the contact says while the vehicle was sitting in the garage they heard a loud banging noise. when they went out to the garage they noticed that the torsion bar snapped. the mechanic noticed several of the same vehicles with the same problem. also on the nhtsa website there were 26 complaints for this same problem. *ak the consumer requested reimbursement. the dealer replaced both the left broken torsion bar and the right torsion. *sc *jb
Vehicle was driven at approximately 40 miles, and then was parked for 3 straight days. On the 4TH day, owner discovered that the windows were black. Vehicle had burned on the inside. Insurance company sent a representative, who stated that fire originated from the headlight switch. *ak *bf
I purchased a 1995 GMC safari van at c & o motors in charleston west virginia on 05/23/1998 reg #1gddm19w9sb53344. after driving it home we discovered the air bag light was on so we contacted c & o and they said to bring it back. we did they worked on it and the light was off. we drove it a short time and the light came on again. we contacted c & o and they said to bring it back and we did and this time they replaced the airbag. the light was off for a short time and then came on again. we contacted performance motors in parsons and they looked at it and the light went off for a short time. now we are considering selling this van and was told that if the air bag light IS on we cannot sell it. we have all the paperwork to show where it has been serviced for this problem, we did a car fax on the van to see if it had been wrecked due to the light not going off and it came back negative. we would like some input as to how we should handle this problem? I checked the recalls and this was not one of the recalls. we have invested several hundred dollars to fix this problem and until now felt it was not a problem until we decided to sell it. *ak
While driving anti lock brake system engaged. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
Child seat has a crack at the top of the tray shield and the recline adjuster button does not stay in place. *mr *la
The pover steering pump malfunctioned causing loss of both power steering and brakes. has this vehicle been recalled for this problem? luckily this happened while turning around in a driveway and not on a highway.
The consumer's vehicle was rear ended while driving at 25 mph. upon impact, the driver side seat snapped off at the lower left hinge. the left side of the seat tilted to the left into the door post. Also, the head rest snapped off. The consumer sustained neck injuries . *ak the vehicle was a totaled . *sc *jb
When right front torsion bar on all wheel drive minivan was replaced two years ago, van began exhibiting unstable, extremely sensitive, and dangerous handling characteristics at highway speeds. replacement of tires, two sets of shock absorbers, and multiple realignments at my expense did not solve this problem. if I had needed to make an emergency evasive maneuver under these conditions, my van would very likely have rolled over. when left front torsion bar was replaced this week, I was informed that gm had developed a new torsion bar design, and that I was now required to replace both left and right bars if either failed. this dual replacement finally solved my handling problems. the manufacturer should recall and replace such defective parts free when they endanger passengers! I have paid for replacing three defective torsion bars over a two year period. *Jb
Raw gas odor in exhaust, sometimes exhaust has foul odor, engine runs rough at times. was taken to dealer in april 2003, could find nothing wrong in their diagnostics, symptoms have slowly gotten worse over time. suspect latent defect in fuel injection system causing a fuel leak inside of engine (intake manifold). since a dlealer can't find the problem with normal diagnostics, this IS an obvious emissions control defect as well as a potential safety defect. this would affect all vehicles with this engine, this defect IS not specific to this model.
Has been repossesed by becu and will be sold by collatoral recovery services inc located at: 621 37TH at wa auburn, wa 98002. they have been informed of the following defects: 1)none of the turn signals work. this has been an intermittent problem since purchasing the vehicle. the several fuses have been replaced, but the malfunction continues. 2)THE warning sound, for the headlines being left on when the door IS open, no longer functions. the fuse has been tested and replaced, but the malfunction continues. 3)THE warning sound for the drivers seatbelt, to remind to fasten them, no longer works. The fuse has been tested and replaced, but the malfunction continues. 4)with all the problems regarding the fuses listed above, there may be the possibility that the fuse box IS defective or there IS a problem in the wiring. there has not been any diagnostic testing because of the prohibitive costs. 5)THE tires are recent purchase from sears, but there are defects in the tires. the passenger rear tire has a slow leak that has been temporarily sealed with seal-tite in a can (a friend gave me hers). the front drivers side tire also has a slow leak, and ive not been able to afford a can of seal-tite, and have just been refilling the tire as needed. 6)THE power windows movement up and down are particularly slow and the gears seem ready to break down anytime. there may also be an undetected electrical problem here as well. 7)THE brakes need serious work. They have been grinding a very long time. the brake pads, rotors and drums may all need to be replaced, as well as the brake fluid. 8)THE vehicle has not had its 100,000 miles, the 125,000 or the 130,000 miles maintenance work done. it has not had a tune up since my purchase and have only been able to procure oil changes infrequently.*ak
Consumer already performed recall 03v159000 repairs concerning windshield wiper/washer motor. original invoice was send to the manufacturer in august 2003, and was still waiting for reimbursement. *Ak
While driving on rough surface the ABS engages without warning. This slows down the stopping process. *Ak
The front of vehicle was very low to the ground. consumer found that the right torsion bar broke. *ak
Right torsion bar broke overnight in my garage.only has 66K miles, parked in a garage at all times. most astro/safari vans break on the left side. the dealer informed me that I can no longer buy the 41 inch bar, I must buy the new 36 inch bar and adjuster arm for both sides. The adjusters are welded into the frame which must be cut out and rewelded in. I liked our van until I starded dealing with this problem. I have found a gm replacement kit from overlandvans.com for much less than the dealer IS asking. I do not understand why the nhtsa does not issue a recall on this and the only thing gm can say IS "your van IS not under warranty". no one seems to care about all the families traveling in these vehicles. I hope that no one gets hurt, there will be more failures. I feel there must be a recall issued for this known defect. I feel this IS much more important than a windshield wiper motor recall! I will be selling the van after the repair has be made. sorry gm, I will not buy another one, this IS our 2ND AWD van and will be our last!*ak
Egr valves clogged, causing vehicle to jump forward and back fire.*ak
Left front torsion bar broke as it was put into gear from park. mechanic states that this IS a problem with this make and model, but no recall has been initiated. can't find replacement torsion bar and have to order replacement kit that requires replacement of both torsion bars which more than triples the repair costs.*ak
