HD # 0169 nhtsa #16v-471. this IS a violation of federal law. per harley- davidson's own website, of which I have copies, the recall came out on 7/8/2016 and I purchased my motorcycle and took possession on 7/17/2016......... I had several near accidents before I stopped riding the bike any more; for instance I was almost pulled into an intersection when the clutch failed... It did this several times before I got it home and parked it in my garage.

The electrical switches on the left side stopped working. It has left me without inportant safety features like high beams, left blinker, and horn. Cruise control and volume control are also unusable. when I took it into the harley dealership in fairfax, va they told me they couldn't do anything at the shop b/c it wasn't currently "throwing a code". It has since stopped working again. The guy at the shop said it's fairly common for the switch housing to go out. the kicker, they said it would be $100 just to read the code (not covered under warranty) and if the problem was u see warranty, they would fix it. Seem's crazy that the bike IS less than 6 months old and having safety issues! note: date given below IS just an estimate. Not sure of exact date.

• 10222358TECHNICAL TIP BULLETIN TA0016: 2014 and Later Touring Steering Head Bearing Adjustment. PURPOSE: REVISION. Updated: 2014-2019 to 2014 and later Touring vehicles, and VEHICLES AFFECTED. Harley-Davidson motorcycles are designed, manufactured and tested to be operated with both of the riders hands on the handlebar. If you or a customer are experiencing a handling concern, refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING, HANDLING, IRREGULARITIES found in the MAINTAINANCE chapter of the appropriate service manual. The service manual process is not intended to validate factory settings, but rather to be used if a concern is presented. Through extensive testing, Harley-Davidson has developed the service manual specification and adjustment procedure as the optimum steering head bearing adjustment and verification method to achieve the desired handling characteristics across all speeds and conditions. Addressing a perceived feel of low speed wobble, oscillation or free play by adjusting the steering head bearings beyond the service manual specification may have an adverse effect on motorcycle stability.

Installing the plug in the return shock contains the oil in the shock during the shipment to the supplier. This information applies to 2014-2016 Touring and Trike models with rear air shock absorbers.

• 10162967SERVICE BULLETIN M1492: 2017 - 2019 TOURING - MILWAUKEE EIGHT - INNER PRIMARY VENT. Purpose: Revision. Harley-Davidson has learned that a small percentage of dealers and customers are finding low transmission oil levels and high primary oil levels during normal maintenance intervals. This could indicate that oil is transferring from the transmission case to the primary housing through the transmission mainshaft. A inner primary vent service kit (Part No. 26500027) is now available to address this issue. The kit allows the primary to breath and prevents excessive pressure. All markets are affected.
• 10158168SERVICE BULLETIN M1450: MILWAUKEE-EIGHT EQUIPPED VEHICLES - LOSS OF POWER OR HIGH ENGINE BRAKING. REVISION. Purpose: 2017 - 2019 model motorcycles equipped with a Milwaukee-Eight? engine can experience a condition known as sumping during extended periods at high rpm or under heavy engine load. Sumping is when an excessive amount of oil is suspended in the engine crankcase and the flywheel must travel through the oil, resulting in loss of power or a high degree of engine braking and potential engine component damage with extended use under these conditions. This bulletin provides the diagnostic procedure for determining if sumping is occurring.
• 10153989TECH ARTICLE TA0016: 2014 and Later Touring Steering Head Bearing Adjustment. Purpose: During recent dealer visits to observe steering head bearing adjustment process, Harley-Davidson staff observed that some dealers are not correctly following the service manual steering head bearing adjustment process. Issue: Steering head bearings on 2014 and later Touring, CVO Touring and Police Touring motorcycles which may not have been adjusted correctly using the service manual procedure at dealerships. Resolution: Never make adjustments by feel. Always follow the process in the appropriate service manual.
• 10139399TECH ARTICLE TA0023: TA0023: Crankshaft Rod Bearing. Purpose: Technicians have been falsely identifying connecting rod bearings as failed due to a perception of resistance as the rods are rotated. The clearance of the Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight crank pin bearings are maintained to a very tight range. This optimizes performance and maintains low mechanical noise in operation. The connecting rod bore can also distort slightly in operation due to stress relaxation. As a result, bearing clearance decreases due to the contact zone broadening and the load being distributed over more rollers. The combination of a bore being slightly out of round and reduced bearing clearance can result in varying degrees of resistance through the range of motion. Axial clearance is also tightly controlled for proper alignment. For these reasons, zones of resistance can be found when the connecting rods are rotated by hand through their range of motion. Resistance during rod motion, by itself, is not an indication of a performance or durability concern.

Issue: Some CB (Citizens band) radio equipped Touring model customers have expressed concern about manipulating the PTT (Push to talk) button on the right hand control, while operating the throttle control. Symptom: Rider's comfort. Resolution: To address this concern, a new feature is included in DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II (PART NUMBER: HD-48650) software version 11.0 that allows the configuration of the PTT and cruise control buttons to be interchanged. This will allow CB radio customers the option to move PTT function to the LHCM (Left hand control module) and the cruise control function to the RHCM (Right hand control module).
