Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022-2024 IONIQ 5, 2023-2025 IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 "Electrified," and Genesis G80 "Electrified" vehicles. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power.

A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the ICCU software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 20, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or Genesis customer service at 1-844-340-9741. Hyundai's numbers for this recall are 272 (Hyundai) and 025G (Genesis). This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 24V-204. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V-204 will need to have the new remedy completed.

Owner notification letters were mailed April 22, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 257/021G.
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022 Ioniq 5 vehicles. A software error in the Shifter Control Unit (SCU) may disengage the parking mechanism, which can allow the vehicle to rollaway.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) has failed repeatedly on this vehicle. It has been replaced three times by Haselwood Hyundai dealer since the vehicle was purchased new in 2021. Dates: 9/8/2023, 12/19/2024, 9/30/2025 at approximately 17k, 35k, and 50k miles. Each failure presents the same way: the ICCU stops charging the 12V battery from the high-voltage pack, the 12V drains, and warning messages appear on the dash: Check Electric Vehicle System. The vehicle then loses power or will not start and becomes inoperable [on numerous occasions the vehicle lost power/would not start at, leaving family occupants stranded. The vehicle also required jump starts on at least 25 occasions. Safety risk: an ICCU failure can disable the vehicle without meaningful warning. A loss of 12V power affects power steering assist, braking assist, hazard lights, and airbag readiness, and has left us stranded away from home as the car has to be jumped every time. Each failure was diagnosed and confirmed by a Hyundai dealer, which replaced the ICCU under warranty. Repair orders documenting all three replacements are available on request; the replaced units were retained by the dealer. The vehicle remains available for inspection. Despite three replacements, including under the ICCU recall and the extended warranty coverage Hyundai issued, the defect has recurred, which suggests the replacement units share the same defect as the original.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) in my 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 failed while the vehicle was charging. The vehicle had been connected to a Level 1 charger for a multi-day charging session when it unexpectedly stopped charging before reaching the selected charge limit. After the failure, the vehicle could no longer successfully charge using either Level 1 or Level 2 charging. When connected to a charger, the vehicle would initially appear to begin charging, but charging would then stop and the dashboard would display an electrical-system warning instructing me to inspect the vehicle’s electrical system. There was no warning or indication of an impending ICCU failure before this occurred. This created a significant reliability and safety concern because the vehicle effectively lost its ability to AC charge. Had I driven to a destination expecting to recharge there without realizing the charging system had failed, I could have been stranded without sufficient range to continue driving. I brought the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership, where technicians diagnosed the problem as an ICCU failure. The dealership subsequently replaced the ICCU. My vehicle had previously received Hyundai’s ICCU-related software campaign/recall update. Despite having that update performed, the ICCU later failed and required physical replacement. I am submitting this complaint because the prior software remedy did not prevent the ICCU failure experienced by my vehicle.

We had a previous issue with our 12V battery not charging, which totally bricked the whole car. Hyundai updated the charge management system software under the active recalls and tested the 12V battery, which after it was fully charged they said was fine. Now (a few months outside our warranty period for the 12v battery), our car was bricked again and was so dead that we could not even start it/charge the battery with a jump start kit. We were stranded on the side of the road (where we had parked for an event we were attending) and the next day Hyundai towed the car to the nearest dealer (3 hours away). It took a week for them to even look at our car and diagnose it. When they did, they said the 12v battery had "just died" because "it was old". There were zero warnings about the 12v battery not charging before it died. There were zero DTC codes. They refused to replace the battery under any warranty/the previous recall and we ended up paying out of pocket. The more concerning thing is that they claimed "nothing is wrong with the charge management system" which is clearly not the case. Even older 12V batteries don't just die after leaving them for a few hours - especially to be SO dead that they can't even be revived. I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle anywhere that I can't get a cab ride - who knows when it will just decide to stop working?

This report is an addendum to report 11762283 that was made yesterday. The vehicle allows driving with the rear liftgate ajar, however under some circumstances it engages the EPB when the vehicle comes to a stop while the gear state is still Drive. The gear state of the car remains in Drive when the EPB engages. This presents the driver with the choice, in the middle of the road and possibly in the middle of an intersection, of either exiting the vehicle and rearranging contents of the vehicle to allow the rear liftgate to close, or activating the accelerator to continue driving with the traction motor overpowering clamped EPB. Neither option is safe. I have attempted to reproduce this unsafe state of the vehicle and was successful in one case and unsuccessful in another. My hypothesis for the differentiating factor is the top speed reached prior to decelerating to a stop: in the first case, 13mph, and in the second, 15mph. I have attached a single frame from one of two videos, of the successful case. The instrument display shows gear state is Drive, the car is moving, high torque is being applied by the traction motors (but typically the screen center shows ADAS state, and there is no indication of instantaneous traction torque), and the EPB is engaged. The car is in the middle of an intersection at the time.

After coming to a stop at a stop sign, and while the gear state was in Drive, the vehicle auto-applied the electronic parking brake because the tailgate was ajar. Gear state remained in Drive. Upon accelerator input, the parking brake did not release, and the vehicle delivered propulsion torque overcoming the parking brake. As a result, the vehicle accelerated and drove several blocks with the rear brakes fully clamped, which was only effectively indicated by a smell and smoke emitted from the rear wheel wells. An irritating repetitive audio and large flashing visual alert in the display cluster indicating the tailgate state distracted from any additional indications that may have been displayed. That distracting indication was continuously active from when gear state was first switched to Drive and did not correlate with EPB engagement.

Active powertrain failure on my 2022 Ioniq 5 SE, which poses an immediate and severe safety risk. On May 18, 2026, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic loss of power and a complete failure to charge. At Murdock Hyundai of Lindon, technicians diagnosed it with trouble code P1AA600 and recommended a total high-voltage battery pack replacement at a cost of over $44,000. Immediate Fire & Safety Risk: The dealership technician explicitly warned me that if I continue to attempt to drive or plug in the vehicle, it will cause an electrical fire. Visible Electrical Arcing: The service technician stated that they physically witnessed an electrical arc occur when connecting the vehicle's high-voltage charging components. The technician's diagnosis strongly points to a catastrophic internal short circuit or a failed Power Relay Assembly (PRA) within the high-voltage housing. The company completely stopped working and Hyundai would not help. This has been an ongoing issue with other cars too. I tried multiple times working with both the deal and Hyudnai.

On June 3, 2026, my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE Dual Motor AWD (approximately 31,000 miles) experienced a sudden and severe high-voltage battery failure. Prior to complete failure, I noticed “Check Electrical” warning sign occurring simultaneously: a sudden and dramatic drop in driving range, dashboard warning lights illuminating, and the vehicle failing to charge properly at both home and public charging stations. The vehicle was still drivable at the time I brought it to an authorized Hyundai dealership, but displayed serious warnings indicating the HV battery system was critically compromised. Upon inspection, the dealership confirmed the main high-voltage battery had failed and required full replacement. The dealership has advised that the repair will take several months due to parts availability. This failure is not an isolated incident. Hyundai issued a recall covering 2022–2024 Ioniq 5 models for HV battery and charging system defects (including ICCU failure). My vehicle’s failure is consistent with this known defect pattern. Despite the vehicle being subject to this known systemic issue, Hyundai Motor America has declined to offer a goodwill buyback, and my case manager has stated the vehicle does not qualify for lemon law relief. The sudden loss of range and charging capability while the vehicle is in motion or in use presents a serious safety concern — particularly on highways where unexpected power loss could lead to accidents. I am currently without a vehicle for what Hyundai estimates to be several months. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this failure pattern in 2022–2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and take appropriate action to protect consumers from this known defect.

Complaint Summary: Mandated federal safety recall remedies performed on my vehicle have directly induced a cascading, critical safety failure of the vehicle's high-voltage propulsion management system. My 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 (VIN: [XXX]) was brought to an authorized dealer on XXX at 200,224 miles to complete safety recall Campaign 272 / NHTSA Recall 24V-204 (ICCU Software Update and Fuse Inspection). After receiving this software flash, the vehicle's electrical charging system failed (DTC P0D5C00), requiring a full hardware replacement of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) on XXX. 142 miles after the physical replacement of the high-voltage ICCU, the vehicle displayed an emergency battery malfunction message on the dashboard. Diagnostic scans reveal active fault code P1BC700 in the Battery Management System. The manufacturer's dealership is now charging $1,909.77 out-of-pocket to replace the Power Relay Assembly (PRA).The current recall modifications for the E-GMP platform are failing to safely mitigate high-voltage current spikes. The electrical strain or servicing procedure required by the recall has directly compromised the adjacent power relays. This creates a severe safety hazard, leaving drivers exposed to subsequent high-voltage component failure immediately after completing mandated federal safety recalls. NHTSA should investigate cascading high-voltage component failures occurring in vehicles directly following the completion of Recall 24V-204. Component that failed: High-voltage main battery pack assembly and associated electrical architecture. The vehicle and the component are currently located at my home and are available for inspection upon request. Description of Incident & Safety Risk: While attempting to drive the car and when connected to the vehicle to a standard charging infrastructure, a catastrophic internal failure occurred within the high-voltage system (Diagnostic Trouble Code P1AA600). Upon attempting to plug the vehicle in, active electrical arcing and physical sparks emanated from the high-voltage architecture. This structural manufacturing component defect presents an immediate, severe, and active fire and safety hazard to the occupants, the vehicle, and any surrounding property. The vehicle is currently completely un-driveable and unsafe to connect to any power grid. Dealer Confirmation & Inspection: The vehicle was driven to a certified manufacturer dealership service center. A certified dealership technician formally inspected the vehicle, reproduced the fault, and explicitly documented the active electrical arcing and sparking coming from the high-voltage pack in the official service records. The vehicle history was also escalated to the manufacturer's executive consumer affairs team, who acknowledged the intake statement but refused to authorize a remedy or repair. Warning Symptoms: There were no long-term warning lamps or prior symptoms leading up to the structural breakdown. The high-voltage system failure occurred suddenly and catastrophically, immediately triggering a critical malfunction indicator on the dashboard cluster at the time of the failure.

The ICCU failed to charge the car via level 1 (120VAC or 240VAC), but does charge using public DC chargers. Fortunately the issue occurred at home so no traffic issue occurred, in this case. The level 1 charger indicated a fault and would not charge the car. I drove the vehicle without any issues to a public charger and established that the DC charging is working. Hyundai repair center diagnosed the problem and confirmed that a repair is needed. I am currently awaiting a repair. The fault was diagnosed on January 22, 2026 and as of June 01, 2026 no repair has been done.

However I left it plugged in and came back several hours later and the car had charged some. I started the car and the messages did not appear. The next day i went to drive the car and the car was totally dead. The auto key would not unlock the car. Thank goodness , I was not driving when the battery died. I took it to the dealer. This is the 2nd 12v battery I have had to replace in 4 years. The first replacement was covered under warranty. I asked them to try to identify the root cause of the 12v batteries dying so quickly and they claim it is only the 12v battery. I feel unsafe driving the car now knowing it could happen at any moment again, maybe while driving. I think the problem is related to the ICCU as my symptoms are very similar to other people with ICCU issues.

While the vehicle was parked in a garage and charging overnight, I briefly went to the vehicle to retrieve an item from the back seat. I was barefoot at the time. I opened the driver‑side rear door and reached inside with my right hand while my left hand was near the upper door area where the door seal is located. When my left hand grazed the door frame, it felt unusually sharp. When I touched the area again to determine what was sharp, I received a significant electric shock. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the incident. The presence of electrical current on an exterior door surface poses a safety risk during normal vehicle use.

2022 Ioniq 5 SE. ICCU failed April 2026 with around 29325 miles. Original owner. Purchased June 2022. I had the original Recall 272 software update performed back in February 2025, but the hardware still failed a year later. **Timeline of Failure:** 1. **Phase 1 (The Trigger):** Level 2 charging stopped unexpectedly before reaching the limit. It tripped my house breaker and unfortunately killed my Level 2 EVSE (Grizzl-E) with a stuck relay. Didn't think too much of it because I had to be somewhere. Car started up normally and I was able to drive throughout the day with no problems. 2. **Phase 2 (The Warning):** The next day, I attempted Level 1 charging. It immediately tripped the breaker. I tried another outlet on a different breaker; the breaker didn't trip, but the car failed to initiate a charge after three attempts. 3. **Phase 3 (Dashboard Error):** After third failed attempt with the L1, I took a peek inside and saw the dashboard had a yellow triangle. With the charger still plugged in, I sat in the driver's seat and turned the car on. The **"Check EV System"** error appeared. I turned off the car and went inside to call the dealer. I called the dealer and they said I can have it towed there. They also scheduled an appointment for the next morning. I went back to car to attempt to position the car to make it easier for the tow truck, but the check ev error was not there when I turned on the car. It said ready and I was able to drive around the block a few times so I figured I'll just try to drive to the dealer. I drove the car to the dealer the next morning. It took **one week** to get my car back. **Diagnostics & Parts Replaced:** The dealer confirmed the following codes and performed a full hardware replacement: * **DTC P1E1300:** AC Power Module Failure * **DTC P1A9096:** DC/DC Converter Fault * **ICCU Part:** `36400-1XAA0-AQQH` * **HV Fuse:** `375F2-GI040-QQH` * **Coolant:** Install of Pink Antifreeze (`00232-19098`)

The 2022 ioniq 5 was bought used with 43k MI and within 2k miles of driving in 50-85F climate and 7kwh l2 charging I witnessed the orange check EV light flash while I was driving on the highway. I exited and powrr cycled the car and the EV light remained. The next morning the orange check EV light was gone. I went to the dealership for a diagnostic and they said they could not replicate the error code or had found any history of the error code coming up without proving to me or showing me any substantial evidence that they tested for anything at the Escondido Hyundai dealership in California. I escalated the issue with Hyundai corporate and was assigned a case manager that ultimately gave me the same answer that they could not replicate any codes and that I should take the car back and drive normally. After extensive research I found that the orange check ev light is a more dangerous sign than the red check ev light because it indicates that the ICCU unit is about to fail. Research shows that due to thermal stress the ICCU will inevitably fail after the orange check AV light comes on. Further research shows that Hyundai had officially stated a 1% failure rate for the ICCU unit in all of their EVs built on the e-gmp cars to date but some projections are at 10% failure rate or higher and that Hyundai Kia is downplaying the issue similarly to how they tried to do the same with the Theta 2 GDI engines that they had been sued and were responsible to pay over $300 or so million dollars as well as $24 million to a employee whistleblower a few years ago. I highly suggest that the nhtsa or other organizations that have the power to force Hyundai Kia to do the right thing so that no further lives are at risk from these ICCU units that have flawed designs that have not been fixed,only remedied via software update or replaced with refurbished units at the most with inevitable failure as thermal stress is experienced.

College Park Hyundai diagnosed a faulty battery related to the prior ICCU failure. I paid out of pocket for a 12-volt battery replacement and additional maintenance, as the dealership claimed the battery was not covered. A “Check Electric Vehicle System” warning appeared immediately after I picked up the vehicle that same day. On December 5, 2025, I returned the vehicle to College Park Hyundai with 20,415 miles. They diagnosed a failed main EV drivetrain battery requiring warranty replacement. As of April 5, 2026, my vehicle has been at the dealership for 122 consecutive days with no repair completed, no replacement battery received, and no estimated completion date. Despite repeated follow-ups, I have received no meaningful updates on repair status or battery availability. I have been without my vehicle for four months with no resolution in sight. This extended delay represents a significant safety concern and an unacceptable failure of Hyundai’s warranty obligations.

Initially had the tires re-balanced in an attempt to fix before the problem was fully understood, but that solution did not last. Ultimately had the tires dismounted and foam pulled out, then rebalanced.

Upon starting the car, it made an audible "pop", and the dash indicated to check the 12V power supply and "low available power" with a turtle indicator, and an "EV!" warning lamp. The car struggled to accelerate out of the parking lot, and within a minute, the dash displayed a "power failure" message, and the car lost all ability to accelerate while on the road, forcing an emergency pull-over. The 12V system completely failed while waiting for a tow truck, complicating the already poorly-documented and complicated process of disengaging the vehicle's automatic parking break for loading onto the flatbed trailer. The dealership performed diagnostics and confirmed an ICCU failure. After waiting for parts and technician availability, the ICCU was replaced with part number 36400-1XAA0-AQQH "ICCU Assy" and returned to me 32 days later.

On October 3, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened PE24028 to investigate alleged failures of Enel X Way's JuiceBox Level 2 residential EV chargers. The allegations were described as thermal incidents and electrical malfunctions, which could trip the circuit breakers in Juicebox owners’ homes and disrupt electric vehicle charge cycles. On October 2, 2024, Enel X Way posted on its website that Enel X Way North America would cease operations in the United States and Canada on October 11, 2024. The closure would potentially impact the charging app and supporting software. ODI sent Enel X Way an Information Request (IR) letter on October 21, 2024. Enel X Way provided an incomplete response to the IR on December 9, 2024. Enel X Way later provided a complete response to the IR on January 24, 2025. ODI reviewed Enel X Way’s IR submissions to determine whether further action is required. Based on ODI’s analysis, there was no clear trend in the cause of the failures described in customer complaints and warranty reports. Additionally, there have been no recent reports alleging safety issues. The available information does not warrant further action at this time. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. On June 8, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23011 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after a warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may be subject to various conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage induced at the end of charging, and certain thermal loading during operation that can damage its internal components and open the ICCU fuse, resulting in an inability to charge the 12-volt battery. The vehicle could eventually lose all motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. In July 2023, Hyundai issued a service campaign to address certain MY 2022-2023 Ioniq 5 and MY 2023 Ioniq 6 vehicles that may have low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurrences due to an ICCU fault and may set the DTC P1A9096 “DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Sensor Fault”. On March 15, 2024, Hyundai filed Safety Recall 24V-204 for 98,878 MY 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and MY 2023-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 “Electrified” and Genesis G80 “Electrified” vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. If the total added weight exceeds the lesser of the limit, a label must be added to the driver-side B-pillar within 25mm (1 inch) of the original tire placard.
