Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, 2015-2016 Murano Hybrid, and 2014-2017 INFINITI QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) software may shut down the hybrid system and the engine under certain conditions, causing a loss of drive power.

A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the HPCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 31, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R21B4 and R21B5.

Risk
If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Risk
If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger air bag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.
Remedy
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Risk
If the primary hood latch is released and the secondary latch fails during operation of the vehicle, it could cause the hood to open during vehicle operation impairing the driver's vision, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Remedy
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will modify the angle of the hood release mechanism to provide additional length to the release cable, free of charge. The recall began on March 9, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

An unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs and ignition coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving and coming to a complete stop, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was pushed to an independent mechanic who completed an unknown repair; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the sparks plugs and ignition coils were replaced. The failure reoccurred two weeks later. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where it was left in their possession; the contact was given a loaner vehicle until the recall could be serviced. Months later, the contact received a call from the dealer that parts were now available and that her vehicle was repaired. Upon return of the vehicle, the contact stated that the original failure persisted and the vehicle was returned to the dealer. Once at the dealer, the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure and the contact was given an estimate for the repair. My car IS a 2014 QX60 hybrid. infinity was sued and settled on without car replacement. My car has the same shuddering problem that was the basis for the lawsuit. cvt transmission was replaced twice under my 70K warranty. my cvt transmission has begun to suffer the same "juddering" problem which as affected so many of the QX60 models, both hybrid and gas. I took it after warranty many times to dealer and they can't solve the problem. now I have to pay for every single minimum step even car wash. I have so much paperwork of this and many others issues with this car that would take for ever to upload.

Purchased the vehicle used in august 2018, with about 50K miles. Brought the car into infiniti of williamsville, ny complaining of a problem noticed with the transmission and hybrid system. the service dept. Cleared a code from some computer and told me to keep an eye on it. I brought the car in again, complained that the transmission was revving up and down a couple of 1000 rpm? this time the service dept. Performed a software update, and again told me to report any problems. finally at 64724 miles the transmission failed all together. the vehicle wouldn't accelerate, as the transmission was slipping in and out of gear. the hybrid system tried to keep car going, but it threw out an over-heating message. Was able to get the car off the road and into a parking lot away from other traffic. The next day I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. where after 10 days of service, the dealership agreed to replace the transmission under the 70K miles power train warranty. A total of 24 days to replace a problem that no doubt they knew about from the onset was a major disappointment. I was told that the new transmission had 12 months, or 12K miles warranty, but haven't received that in writing from the dealer ship.

I have two concerns that need to be addressed because they have been going on for a few years. the car would short of 'stall' during acceleration (car IS still on)no matter which driving mode (eco, standard or sport), which IS a major concern. it had a recall on the software a few years ago, which apparently was supposed to fix the issue . however, it has not and I have taken it in several times for the same issue but the dealership could not find any problems. yet the same year and model minus the hybrid IS currently recalled for the same issue. it's a concern when my kids are in the car and it stalls while making a left hand turn. other issue IS when I have the driver assist on and a car next to me in a separate lane makes either a right or left hand turn and my car would immediately brake. this IS a concern because of the high possibility of getting rear ended.

On a recent trip to san antonio, tx hill country on a very hot day, the hybrid system over-heated on a slow speed climb to a steep hill. Engine and transmission shutter and stopped powering the wheels. The vehicle start to roll back on to cars coming behind. I had to press emergency brake and shut off the engine for 10 minutes. On start the hybrid warning sign was still on. However the powerr to wheel were back with car still shuttering. From then onwards had to start and stop the engine until reaching the top of the hill. On reaching top, had to stop and park the car for 2 hrs. start the car again, still the hybrid warning sign on. Then drove down the hill avoiding any more up hills a into costco parking and left the car parked for 3 hrs. After that, start the car and the hybrid warning sign went off. Drove back to houston and showed to the dealer and the computer diagnostic code shows hybrid motor inverter controller failed. Also notice the part of third row seat burnt where the hybrid battery IS stored. However the dealer mentions they battery IS fine. Now we are scared to drive this car on very hot days to any steep hill. Failure of power to wheels was pretty scary. With brunt mark on the third row seat makes this car even more scarier since this car IS only used by my wife and kids. Thinking of anything happening to them because of fire or power failure makes this car really unreliable. another issue that happens very winter IS loud knocking during extreme cold (32 below) days. We live in sugar land (houston) tx. Very seldom we get very cold days. However whenever we do, there IS extremely loud knocking sound coming from the front passenger side of the engine compartment. As per dealer this IS normal with infiniti QX60 hybrid. I spent close to $67K for this car. I have been extremely disappointed with performance of this car.

We purchased the car in november 11, 2013 and the problems started shortly thereafter. we have extensive paperwork over the course of 4 years that confirms the numerous times we've unsuccessfully attempted to get infiniti to solve the problems. At one point, infiniti supposedly fixed the problem by completely changing out the software but the problems returned. In fact, every single time we brought the car to infiniti, even if it was just for an oil change or routine service, we informed the dealership that the car wasn't functioning correctly. We have put only 37,000 miles on the car and we've taken very good care of it, performed every scheduled oil change, use only premium gas, etc. from almost as soon as we took possession, we begin experiencing severe issues: "high revving when idling "lag/hesitation when accelerating from a dead stop "high revving when applying the brakes. We were told to not drive the car in sport mode with the air condition running. "transmission has needed software updates "extremely loud sounds from the engine "juddering, almost stalling because engine IS not getting a steady supply of air, fuel or power "fuel tank IS slow to fill and filling nozzle shuts off before tank IS full "much lower mileage than promised - no better than a conventional engine car regardless of whether it IS economy, regular or sport mode "braking issues. Told to not drive in a lower gear going down the steep hills as the braking actually charged the hybrid motor even though it caused our brakes to wear out prematurely. given the litany of unrepairable problems that render this car unsafe to drive with my kids, I thought the nhtsa would like to be made aware in the event there are other consumers with similar problems. I've requested that infiniti initiate a repurchase for my QX60 hybrid based on my state's lemon law.

As I start to accelerate I can feel the car stutter at times. When I'm at full acceleration the car seems to run fine, but as I start slowing down under 5 miles an hour I can feel a stutter again.

Driving from houston to austin on 71 at 65mph on july 27TH 2017. No traffic around me, no debris on road. Sunroof exploded outwards. No impact from debris but was very hot day. Tested temp of sunroof afterwards with laser reader - showed 165F.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

- 10208943BATTERY QUICK CHARGE NOTICE SERVICE INFORMATION When charging the vehicles 12 volt battery with the high amperage quick charge function, the ignition should never be ON, or turned ON, while charging. Attempting to start the vehicle, or turning the ignition ON, while using the high amperage quick charge could potentially damage the fuel pump control module. Only turn the ignition ON when either the ESM or a technical service bulletin service procedure states to do so, and only while using a battery maintainer or smart charger set to reflash mode, or a similar setting. Battery voltage should not exceed 16V during a reprograming operation.

- 10192333SERVICE INFORMATION The rear seat headphones have a "LEFT" channel and a "RIGHT" channel. The channel switch is on the headphone ear pad case. If a person is sitting on the left side (driver side) of the vehicle and their headphones are set to "RIGHT", the headphones may have static or intermittently operate (cut in and out). OR If a person is sitting on the right side (passenger of the vehicle and their headphones are set to "LEFT", the headphones may have static or intermittently operate (cut in and out). NOTE: If the headphones are set to the "correct channel" for the seating position, but still have static or do not operate, check the condition of the "AAA" headphone batteries located under the left side headphone cover. Do not replace the headphones for the above issues. See this bulletin for further detail.
