These records cover every 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4-DR 4X2. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
My jeep gets what they call a death shudder...it does it sparatically at around 40 mph...everything in the front shakes horribly and feels like its going to fall apart ...on any road...going straight...no bumps involved
At about 50 to 70 mph, there IS a violent shaking. I've looked it up and may have referred to it a 'desth wobble' extremely terrifying and you have to suddenly slow down in heavy traffic which could cause an accident. Also. Onlookers can get distracted due to the shaking and haven an accident as well. It feels like extreme turbulence. This has occurred at least 5 times.
Each time I add fuel from a gas pump, once the pump stops automatically, the fuel spits out fuel, as if there IS too much air getting into the tank and pushing out the fuel. This happens all the time, and gas gets all over my tire cover, jeep body, and even sometimes on me, if I am holding the pump.
There IS a horrible wobble in the jeep. Felt very unsafe as it happened suddenly while driving on the highway. *tr
TL* takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler 4-DR 4X2. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Takata recall; S33/ nhtsa 16v-290. While travelling forward at approximately 35 to 40 mph in a straight direction, a vehicle turned left in front of me and our vehicles collided. Unable to apply any sort of braking, my jeep's front center and front left side struck the left front, left front quarter-panel, and driver's side door of the other vehicle. My jeep spun approximately 45 degrees to the left before coming to a stop with the other vehicle. My airbag did not deploy as a result of the crash. I suffered injuries to my left hand, left thumb, left wrist, left forearm, left shoulder, left side of my neck, left scapula, chest, right hip, left knee, left, shin, and lower back. As of this time, I am still treating my injuries. The impact force was enough to bend my steering wheel as well.
Death wobble at high speeds feels like jeep IS falling apart
Two weeks ago I when to the dealer to detail clean my jeep, I park at the entrance of the shop, when they where going to take my jeep in for cleaning, it will not start, they had to push the jeep into the shop, after checking it for a wild, they told me that it burn a fuse, they replace it and everything was find. Last week when I came out of my job, the jeep will not start again, I just replace the fuse and it was all fine. This morning am at wawa getting coffee and when I came out , the jeep will not start, had to get a toll truck to take it to my mechanic. He check it and told me there something cutting off the power and blowing the fuse every time he try to start it. He told to check with the dealer to see if there was a recall or problem with this, I call and by my vin number they said there was no recall, a recall on the switch and for cutting off the power was issued for newer models but not for 2007. I will like to know if there been other similar complain about this, now I remember that sometimes my jeep will be loosing like power or stalling when I was driving, I keep my jeep clean and in very good conditions , up to date in maintenance, but this worrying me. I have a friend with a 2008 jeep, and he told me he had the same problem with his.
Greetings, my 2007 jeep weangler has a fueling issue. When ever I fuel my jeep it overflows and spits gas back at me when ever the tank gets close to full. this happens every time and at multiple gas stations.
Death wobble. I'm sure not the first complaint you've seen for it. This IS a complete bs problem to have on a $40,000 vehicle and chrysler/jeep needs to be held liable for it. I have spent over $2,000 replacing components on the front-end - none of which have "cured" the violent "death wobble" when I hit a bump or pothole going 50 - 60mph. Just to add another definition to the problem, I will explain in detail. You hit a bump or a pothole going anywhere from 40 to 60 mph or so, and the whole front end begins to shake violently. Steering wheel shakes, wheels are wobbling back and forth like crazy, and the car IS hard to control. There IS no way to stop it until you pull off the road and stop the vehicle. Shoddy manufacturing IS the only real culprit I can point to based on my experience and the hundreds of accounts I have personally read online just trying to find a solution for my own problem. This IS completely unacceptable and needs to be addressed by chrysler/jeep...
While driving and the vehicle hits roughly 55 mph the vehicle starts shaking violently. the steering wheel nearly snatches out of my hand in a violent matter. the vehicle feels as though it IS about to crash. I have to slam on breaks, hoping no one IS behind me, to slow the vehicle to stop the violent shaking. the shaking IS known as the "death wobble".
As I was driving my air bag light came on it still comes on, th his has never happened but I'm worried if it's a faulty air bag? Or something that might be harmful later, since I have 2 kids just being concerned because I saw in the news that there IS a recall on airbags from I think tataka air bags manufacturer and saw chrysler as one of the companies using these airbags on their vehicles!!?? thank you for all the hard work! best regards *tr
Air bag light stays on, ding sound every few seconds. *tr
While driving at a slow to moderate speed, the front end shakes uncontrollably and you can't control the steering. this happens driving slow, or at 60 mph, straight-a-ways or curves. the only way to get it stopped IS to apply the brakes and come to a stop. this jeep has not been lifted, it has the same parts on it as what was on it when purchased and I was told nothing was done to it. this IS extremely dangers and scary for the driver. *js
I have filled a previous complaint but the problem has not been corrected I have had 2 steering dampers replaced by jeep in the past, now they are acknowledging the defect but not offering any knowledge of how to fix the death wobble ( violent shaking and loss of control of vehicle) this IS still happening with only 50,000 miles on my car, we like the jeep but we are afraid to drive it much or take on road trip this IS my only vehicle I am a single mom I can not afford to have the steering components replaced at my cost so I am forced to drive a car that IS unsafe for me and my daughter , my wrangler has a bad name due to so many people experiencing this it IS unsellable. Im stuck with a very dangerous jeep! This has gone on too long why are you not forcing a recall are you waiting for deaths due to this. *tr
Vehicle gear shift cable busted and shifter pin damage. Due to poor quality item made out of plastic not made out of metal. Chrysler upgrade because part to new part but will not reimburse, they admit that part IS faulty but sill would not make changes to other cars. Car would not move stuck in place. At first when car was turned on gear had not traction and no control. Vin: [xxx] jeep wrangler 07 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power and decelerated to 5 mph. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the engine had spun a rod and that there metal pieces in the oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
I recently purchased a product called cellcontrol which IS a distracted driving prevention product. When plugging their product into my obd port my car's computer began acting up. After 2 weeks in the shop and replacement of 2 computers in my vehicle it was determined that the cellcontrol device not only cooked my car's electronics but it voided my warranty since I broke the factory installed seal on the obd port in order to plug their device in. I don't believe this product has been adequately tested and may result in accidents since my vehicle at one point would not come out of high gear due to the computer malfunctioning. *tr
I was fueling my jeep. While the pump was active I was washing the windows. I heard ans smelled fuel splashing and had to run back and manually disengage the nozzle. The left rear of the vehicle and the ground were covered with gas. Thinking it might be a gas pump (gas station) problem, I ignored the problem. When it happened two more times at different locations, I got repairs done at a local garage. My garage looked up the problem on the internet and found http://www.edmunds.com/autoobserver-archive/2011/02/chrysler-fuel-spit-back-complaints-rise.html which documents a spike in complaints from other jeep wrangler owners. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler 4X2. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently. The contact was able to merge to the side of the road to further inspect the failure. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where unknown repairs were made to the vehicle however, the failure recurred several times after the initial failure. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 132,744.
My computer in the jeep thinks the airbag went off took it in and dealer said air bag IS dead. 1ST gear pops out of gear almost died on take off, turning left . *tr
Uncontrollable shaking vibrating loss of steering..... Death wobble till stopped and pulled over jeep has serviced it 3X and acting like im crazy replaced stabilizer bar and dampener only help for few weeks im afraid to drive and can not afford another car it has 30000 miles stock everything and no off roading ever. *tr
The front end began an uncontrollable wobble at about 55 miles per hour. the only way to stop it was to gradually slow down to a stop. there was no apparent reason for it to began. I did not hit anything. the road I was traveling was an improved smooth paved road. the car could not be controlled. *tr
Fuel spillage while refilling.*tr
I am experiencing what has become known as jeep wobble and even has been called death wobble. Driving at speeds over 50 mph the vehicle begins to wobble uncontrollably and will not stop until speeds go below 20 mph. This occurs at times without unstable road conditions and it IS almost always occurring when crossing a bridge or any where that the road surface changes. Jeep has replaced the steering stabilizer and dampener three times with no success and replaced the shocks as well. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On May 10, 2016, Fiat Chrysler America (FCA) submitted a Part 573 Defect Information Report announcing NHTSA recall 16V290 involving 394,258 model year (MY) 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles.Under the recall FCA will replace the clockspring and install a steering wheel back cover and steering wheel column shroud. This recall also includes approx. 4,524 MY2007-2010 right hand drive (RHD) Jeep Wrangler vehicles commonly used for rural postal delivery services. In addition 7,180 MY 2011-2016 right hand drive Jeep Wrangler vehicles were also recalled under 16V288, the same remedy repair will be used.Upon review of the 1,942 MY 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler consumer complaints, 17,195 warranty reports and field returned parts assessment, FCA concluded that a defect exists in the driver side clockspring assembly, a device that both connects (electrically) the driver air bag to the control module and allows rotational movement between the steering wheel and fixed steering column.Clockspring failure may compromise the air bag circuit causing illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and may result in non-deployment of the driver air bag in a frontal crash.FCA identified a contributing factor in that the recalled vehicles may be subjected to off-road dusty environments and/or usage with the vehicle roof top/doors removed thus allowing dust and moisture to enter the clockspring assembly.FCA advised that the MY 2011 and later Wrangler vehicles had an improved steering column cover/shroud that may reduce the amount of dirt/moisture that can enter the clockspring assembly.During the investigation FCA and the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) also reviewed 193 MY 2011-2012 Jeep Wrangler consumer complaints, 3,918 warranty reports and field returned parts along with reports from other FCA vehicles that use the same clockspring assembly.Based on this review, the rate of repair and the failure mode does not indicate a defect trend at this time in the later MY Wrangler or other FCA vehicles.During the field return parts review, FCA found a significant number of MY 2011-2012 Wrangler returned parts that operated normally, the so called ?no trouble found? or NTF parts where no fault could be identified through bench testing. On June 10, 2016, FCA informed ODI of its intention to conduct a 15-yr, 150k mile extended warranty program due to the NTF issue and the MY 2011 and later vehicles having a somewhat elevated level of warranty replacement.Consumers will be notified of the program in writing.FCA will collect clocksprings replaced under the warranty extension program to further examine and study the root cause failure.ODI will monitor FCA?s analysis to determine if any further field action is warranted.Based on the actions taken by FCA to recall the MY 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles and the MY 2008-2016 right hand drive Wrangler vehicles, this investigation is closed.FCA has also agreed to conduct a warranty extension and further evaluation of the MY 2011-2016 Wrangler. At the time of FCA's field data submission in PE 15-025 (September 2015), ODI was aware of a total of 416 MY 2007-2010 and 23 MY 2011-2012 VOQs relevant to this issue. In addition, there have been an additional 90 and 16 VOQs (respectively) received since the recall announcement (i.e., thru May 2016).The reports noted above can be viewed at SaferCar.gov under the reference (ODI) numbers cited on the attached listing.
In it's response to ODI's PE15-025 Information Request letter, FCA identified 1,703 consumer complaints, field reports and legal claims responsive to the subject defect condition on the subject Wrangler vehicles.Six of these reports alleged an air bag non-deployment in a crash in which either the air bag warning light was allegedly on or came on afterward the crash, one of which also alleged injuries as a result of the non-deployment.FCA also provided data on other make, model and model year vehicles using the same clockspring.Additionally FCA provided 16,955 warranty claims related to the replacement of the air bag clockspring wiring assembly. It should be noted that FCA initiated an Extended Warranty Program on the left hand drive MY 2007 Wrangler in late calendar year 2011.6,777 of these claims are from the MY 2007 left hand drive Wrangler.FCA advises that some of the warranty claims involved clockspring failures that would not affect the air bag operation, for example due to noise, cruise control and/or radio operation issues. Many of these claims involved newer model year subject vehicles.FCA also noted that Wrangler's removable roof and door configuration may make it more susceptible to outdoor water/moisture and dust ingress.ODI investigated the right hand drive Wrangler in calender year 2011 for a similar clockspring issue under PE11-019.That investigation lead to NHTSA Safety Recall 11V258 on right hand drive model year (MY) 2008-2012 Wranglers.FCA redesigned the remedy clockspring to improve its durability and environmental protection and revised the design of the steering wheel to column shroud.Base on the data reviewed, this Preliminary Analysis (PE) is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA).The reports cited above are listed in the public investigative file available at SaferCar.gov under this investigation ID.
In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is den
In its July 29, 2011 response to ODI's May 27, 2011 information request letter, Chrysler provided 153 MY 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 ODI Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (ABL) due to a faulty clockspring (CS) wiring circuit. The right hand drive (RHD) vehicles, which were first produced in MY 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).The MY2007 left hand drive (LHD) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 LHD reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the MY 2008 LHD vehicles.ODI did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the CS circuit failure.Since May 27, 2011, ODI has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing. In addition, and for comparative purposes, Chrysler provided another 42 owner reports it received on the MY2006 and MY2009-2010 Wrangler vehicles; these populations showed a lower incident rate than the subject vehicles, especially in comparison to the RHD subject vehicles. Chrysler's investigation showed that the higher rate of RHD Wrangler CS failures were due to a more severe duty cycle for these vehicles which are primarily used by US Postal workers/mail carriers delivering mail in rural regions.Chrysler concluded the unique vehicle usage, much of which occurs with the driver's window open and under dusty environmental conditions, is the cause of premature CS failure.Chrysler's analysis also indicated that the somewhat elevated MY2007 LHD rate, which showed a declining failure trend, was the result of start-up production/assembly issues that occurred with the introduction of a new design CS.The new design CS incorporated both dual airbag inflator circuitry and a steering wheel angle sensor (for the electronic stability control system). On November 1, 2011, Chrysler submitted a defect notice indicating it will conduct a recall of all MY 2008-2012 RHD Wrangler vehicles (11V528).The estimated 5,334 RHD Wrangler vehicles include the 2,297 MY 2008 RHD Wrangler vehicles, which were the subject of this investigation, plus an additional 3,037 MY 2009-2012 RHD Wrangler vehicles that Chrysler determined potentially have a similar CS concern as the MY 2008 RHD vehicles.Chrysler intends to replace the existing CS with a yet-to-be-produced improved CS assembly, or an improved steering housing assembly that is less susceptible to dusty environments.Owner notice is scheduled to begin in November, 2011.Chrysler also informed ODI that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for MY2007 LHD Wrangler which will extend the CS warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles.Accordingly the investigation is closed.
ODI found the rate of warranty claims related to fuel spit back on the subject vehicles is lower than other vehicles previously recalled to correct defects related to fuel spit back.Although the rate of complaints reported to the agency on the subject vehicles is higher than or similar to the rates experienced in previous investigations where safety recalls were conducted, ODI suspects that the NHTSA safety complaints submitted by subject vehicles owners may have been influenced by internet related publicity both before and during this investigation.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that no safety-related defect exists. The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right to take future action if warranted by the circumstances.See attached report for additional information. In addition, Chrysler is initiating a lifetime warranty program, at no cost to the consumer, to address the fuel spit back problem in approximately 135,000 model year 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler vehicles built from March 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008.Chrysler will notify all affected vehicle owners of this action.Consumers should refer to the warranty and service bulletins and sample owner notification letter available in the investigative file. The vehicle build date can be found on the certification label located on the driver door or door jamb.
In a letter dated november 3, 2009, chrysler group llc (chrysler), notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall of approximately 161,000 model year (my) 2007 and 2008 jeep wrangler vehicles built with automatic transmissions.chrysler stated that these vehicles were not equipped with a transmission fluid temperature warning system and the operation of these vehicles beyond the limits of reasonable usage over a period of time could result in transmission failure and in some cases transmission fluid expulsion.the expelled fluid could come in contact with a hot engine or exhaust component and cause a fire.chrysler will conduct a safety recall to install a hot oil warning message in the instrument cluster and a chime indicating an elevated transmission fluid temperature condition.an owner's manual addendum stating the purpose of the hot oil message and chime to include caution and warning statements regarding elevated transmission fluid temperature conditions will be provided to owners.based on chrysler's decision to conduct a safety recall this engineering analysis IS closed.
The defective tow bar assemblies involved in this recall were supplied to chrysler for use on some of its jeep wrangler vehicles.the purpose of this investigation was to identify any additional purchasers of identical or substantially similar defective assemblies and to initiate additional defect reporting and safety recalls as necessary.to accomplish this rmd contacted the supplier of the assemblies, valley towing products, and confirmed no other such assemblies were distributed.this eq IS therefore closed.
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. Odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. Dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) IS lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal IS restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. Odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. This investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.
