Jog slips out of first gear violently. The gear doesnt stay engaged and this IS very dangerous when pulling out in traffic. This happens quite often. When it pops out, you are a standing duck.
There IS an issue with the valve lifters that cause a ticking or knocking sound while stationary & in motion. worse while in motion, we have been told by two different mechanics that to repair the issue the engine has to be disassembled.
So everytime when I fill my tank its over flowing and its a really big safety issues last week I was going to work and stopped in gas station and it over filled and my suit was all gas and went to work smeling as gas. Also this can be really dangerous . In the past under the service bulletin 14-001-11 I lot of jeep owners changed this part for free but now the dealers are not changing it anymore and asking almost 1500$ to fix this issue was caused by jeep. Jeep needs to reacall this cars and pay change the gas tank
In the last 6 months, the power lock actuators have failed on all 4 doors. I have to manually lock/unlock all of the doors. they partially respond to the key fob, but they don't respond at all to the lock/unlock switch on the front doors.
When filling the gas tank fuel will spill out when the nozzle shuts off. Spilling copious amounts of fuel down the side of the vehicle all over the nozzle and my hand and creating a large puddle on the ground. This happens almost every time the vehicle IS filled up.
I had service done on the gas tank but it still the gas spills out the jeep only has as 48575 miles. Their saying it back pressure this IS something that should be address to the manufacturer know their telling me to 1172 dollars. For something that IS wrong on the gas than I would appreciate if you can help me with this issue I'm sending the report they gave me.this started at the gas pump station
First the windshield wipers stopped working (changed motor and controls) then the horn stopped working, then the blinker and lights along with the instrument panel. Switched the panel and finally the tipm which fixes all issues. Vehicle continued to run but parked it until after reinstalling the tipm.
Taka airbags, tipm fuse box. Completely disables the vehicle. They have known about and have been running this part in many chrysler dodge jeep vehicles since 1995.my car IS a 2007. It reckon havock on the whole electrical system. The dealer milks all of your 260 somthing sensors before replacing the tipm, totally integrated power module. And the sway bar disconnect IS prone to water damage and shorting out because they let water in the assembly and short out then they charge you 1400 dollars for a new one. When it IS just the actuator. A manual override IS only 89.00.all of these problems are from the can buse c. 90 %of this vehicle problems are from this can buse c. But no recall on the tipm, sway bar actuator, or can buse c communication. This whole electrical system should be a recall. It IS garbage. Over complicated and under nesasary! Driving done the freeway and the whole dashboard lights up I pulled over turned car off and then would not turn back on. Goes in to a limp mode. I was worried that it would shut off or worse cause an accident or leave me stranded in the freeway! The airbag recall could set the airbag of wile driving causing you to crash.
Fuel does not shut off while filling tank, leading to overflow onto vehicle, ground, keys, person.
For the past 5 months I've had my check engine light on. I read the code and IS says "large e vap leak " I've replaced the pcv valve and the e vap charcoal canister and the check engine light IS still on. I've brought it to a mechanic and they did a smoke test and everything tested out good. Showing that there were no problems and to start with the gas cap. I've spent over 100.dollars on gas caps and I still have the problem. I have to for emissions by the end of december. I've had every recall known to man on this jeep. I've done research and found out that it could be the gas filler neck itself. How to I go about getting a new one and will it cost me anything? I also have problems when I try and fill the tank. The gas comes flying back out if I try and fill it. Its getting out of hand and the dealership won't give me an answer. I was going to go to.another dealership but I want to know if this will cost me? I have until december 31 to get this problem fixed or my plates will be suspended and I won't be able to get my plate sticker. What should I do?? the check engine light comes on while stationary and while driving. This started in the middle of may.
My name IS [xxx]. I run a repair shop called glen allen service center. We have had 3 jeep wranglers (2007, 2007, and 2008) that have needed brake hose replacement in the last 4 months. the first one we noticed the hose was swollen where a rubber cover IS made over the steel line crimp at the frame and the brake caliper. We advised the customer to replace it which he did. The other two were towed in with complete brake system failure (brake pedal to the floor). Chrysler has redesigned the hoses but there has been no recall issued. both chrysler dealers parts departments I deal with seem to not know about this. there should be a recall ordered as this IS a serious safety issue. you can reach me at [xxx] if you have any questions. Thank you for your time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr
The 'heat barrier/ sound barrier' causing on the jeeps floorboards captures water which then completely rusts out the floor board. I thought it was just a freak deal with mine, but upon research and talking to others who own wrangle, I found this was pretty common. I also can feel the drivers floor getting very hot as there IS now almost nothing between my feet and the aluminum heat shielding for the exhaust that runs just under the drivers side.
Parked at a gas station, refueling my jeep to the fullest causes it to choke on the gas and throws up some of it.
Takata recall - it has almost been a year since the takata recall was announced. in that time, I have been notified by jeep once. as it appears that the wrangler IS the only vehicle in their line that IS affected, I do not understand why this has not been addressed. I have a 2007 wrangler and live in alabama which IS "zone a" for the recall. I have a colleague that has a similar aged vehicle from toyota that was told to park the car and was provided with a loaner by toyota until a fix was available because of the potential danger. as this IS the vehicle that I use to drive my child to and from school, this concerns me. it seems that jeep IS making no effort to remedy this problem, and I am left putting passengers of my vehicle in danger. any effort to contact jeep have resulted in no response. I would much prefer to have the airbag disabled and/or removed until a fix IS available rather than a potential hazard for my child. even a new inflator that IS no so old would be a better temporary fix. I would appreciate seeing some action on jeep's part or some action on the part of nhtsa to force the issue.
Filling the jeep up with fuel it spits a lot of fuel out when it gets full and several times getting on my cloths and shoes. I've read that a lot of people are having the same issue. If I were to get back in the jeep and would get static and ignite my cloths and burn myself badly I don't think this would be good for anyone. I've read that certain dealers are replacing the tank for free and others aren't .IS there a recall or fix in the works for this or do people have to burn up to get any action? Please advise
Driving on the highway, my jeep dash lit up and it shutdown. I had to coast out of harms way and have it towed home as it would not re-start. been reading about tipm failures in my model year. seems to be related. *tr
I've had it in the shop three times for the same issue. While driving the engine will stall. It may start back up, or it may take 10 minutes for it to restart. After researching this I believe it to be a faulty tipm. At times when it stalls, the blower motor on the a/c will continue to run even with the key off and out of the ignition. My concern IS the loss of power steering and power brakes when it stalls at highway speeds. This IS a big safety hazard. There are multiple complaint for this same issue. I have had the tipm reprogramming that IS on recall. This didn't help the problem. *tr
Takata recall....while driving about 68 mph on an interstate overpass today, my jeep went into the dreaded "death wobble". It was horrifying...i lost control of the vehicle and thought I would fall over the overpass. There was no warning, no bumps or pot holes. This IS the scariest thing I've ever experienced on the road. It felt like 4 blow-outs simultaneously. I cannot believe there IS no recall on such a dangerous issue. *tr
Fuel spills out when filling tank. the shutoff on the gas pump does not prevent this from occurring. this IS not an overfill but happens even when the pressure IS light. This IS a potential fire hazard and environmental concern. chrysler/jeep has a tsb to correct this issue. This has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased in 2010
Fire started under the car somewhere between the engine and transmission. glow of the flame was towards the back of the engine compartment and towards the center of the car. fire worked its way forward and engulfed the engine compartment. car was in motion exiting from the highway onto an off ramp when issue was noticed.
Instrument panel goes haywire, flickers, gauges go crazy(random) instrument panel goes out completely at start up and shifter IS stuck in park position. When disconnecting the battery and reconnecting resets tipm and will then go back to normal.when turned off same problem again. Engine has stalled while driving also.
As soon as I turn the car over, my dash lights, headlights come on. the headlight stalk and the windshield wiper stalk are inoperable. it's a safety hazard to drive my car. and after researching through multiple forums and sites online, it looks like this IS a fairly common problem, with a non-standard resolution. not looking forward to the hours I'm going to have to spend getting this addressed. I was driving 8/14 when I noticed the issues.
No parts, they said to order but I do not see anyway of completing this.
Just as all the other 2007 jeep wranglers my clockspring has gone bad and my airbags and horn malfunction constantly. I filed a reports years ago but that seems to have been removed. I see that the 2008 jeep wranglers had this recalled, but 2007 jeeps were not good enough. guess our lives and the lives of our families don't mean squat.
Violent front end shake at 50 mph
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On May 10, 2016, Fiat Chrysler America (FCA) submitted a Part 573 Defect Information Report announcing NHTSA recall 16V290 involving 394,258 model year (MY) 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles.Under the recall FCA will replace the clockspring and install a steering wheel back cover and steering wheel column shroud. This recall also includes approx. 4,524 MY2007-2010 right hand drive (RHD) Jeep Wrangler vehicles commonly used for rural postal delivery services. In addition 7,180 MY 2011-2016 right hand drive Jeep Wrangler vehicles were also recalled under 16V288, the same remedy repair will be used.Upon review of the 1,942 MY 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler consumer complaints, 17,195 warranty reports and field returned parts assessment, FCA concluded that a defect exists in the driver side clockspring assembly, a device that both connects (electrically) the driver air bag to the control module and allows rotational movement between the steering wheel and fixed steering column.Clockspring failure may compromise the air bag circuit causing illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and may result in non-deployment of the driver air bag in a frontal crash.FCA identified a contributing factor in that the recalled vehicles may be subjected to off-road dusty environments and/or usage with the vehicle roof top/doors removed thus allowing dust and moisture to enter the clockspring assembly.FCA advised that the MY 2011 and later Wrangler vehicles had an improved steering column cover/shroud that may reduce the amount of dirt/moisture that can enter the clockspring assembly.During the investigation FCA and the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) also reviewed 193 MY 2011-2012 Jeep Wrangler consumer complaints, 3,918 warranty reports and field returned parts along with reports from other FCA vehicles that use the same clockspring assembly.Based on this review, the rate of repair and the failure mode does not indicate a defect trend at this time in the later MY Wrangler or other FCA vehicles.During the field return parts review, FCA found a significant number of MY 2011-2012 Wrangler returned parts that operated normally, the so called ?no trouble found? or NTF parts where no fault could be identified through bench testing. On June 10, 2016, FCA informed ODI of its intention to conduct a 15-yr, 150k mile extended warranty program due to the NTF issue and the MY 2011 and later vehicles having a somewhat elevated level of warranty replacement.Consumers will be notified of the program in writing.FCA will collect clocksprings replaced under the warranty extension program to further examine and study the root cause failure.ODI will monitor FCA?s analysis to determine if any further field action is warranted.Based on the actions taken by FCA to recall the MY 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles and the MY 2008-2016 right hand drive Wrangler vehicles, this investigation is closed.FCA has also agreed to conduct a warranty extension and further evaluation of the MY 2011-2016 Wrangler. At the time of FCA's field data submission in PE 15-025 (September 2015), ODI was aware of a total of 416 MY 2007-2010 and 23 MY 2011-2012 VOQs relevant to this issue. In addition, there have been an additional 90 and 16 VOQs (respectively) received since the recall announcement (i.e., thru May 2016).The reports noted above can be viewed at SaferCar.gov under the reference (ODI) numbers cited on the attached listing.
In it's response to ODI's PE15-025 Information Request letter, FCA identified 1,703 consumer complaints, field reports and legal claims responsive to the subject defect condition on the subject Wrangler vehicles.Six of these reports alleged an air bag non-deployment in a crash in which either the air bag warning light was allegedly on or came on afterward the crash, one of which also alleged injuries as a result of the non-deployment.FCA also provided data on other make, model and model year vehicles using the same clockspring.Additionally FCA provided 16,955 warranty claims related to the replacement of the air bag clockspring wiring assembly. It should be noted that FCA initiated an Extended Warranty Program on the left hand drive MY 2007 Wrangler in late calendar year 2011.6,777 of these claims are from the MY 2007 left hand drive Wrangler.FCA advises that some of the warranty claims involved clockspring failures that would not affect the air bag operation, for example due to noise, cruise control and/or radio operation issues. Many of these claims involved newer model year subject vehicles.FCA also noted that Wrangler's removable roof and door configuration may make it more susceptible to outdoor water/moisture and dust ingress.ODI investigated the right hand drive Wrangler in calender year 2011 for a similar clockspring issue under PE11-019.That investigation lead to NHTSA Safety Recall 11V258 on right hand drive model year (MY) 2008-2012 Wranglers.FCA redesigned the remedy clockspring to improve its durability and environmental protection and revised the design of the steering wheel to column shroud.Base on the data reviewed, this Preliminary Analysis (PE) is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA).The reports cited above are listed in the public investigative file available at SaferCar.gov under this investigation ID.
In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is den
In its July 29, 2011 response to ODI's May 27, 2011 information request letter, Chrysler provided 153 MY 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 ODI Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (ABL) due to a faulty clockspring (CS) wiring circuit. The right hand drive (RHD) vehicles, which were first produced in MY 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).The MY2007 left hand drive (LHD) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 LHD reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the MY 2008 LHD vehicles.ODI did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the CS circuit failure.Since May 27, 2011, ODI has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing. In addition, and for comparative purposes, Chrysler provided another 42 owner reports it received on the MY2006 and MY2009-2010 Wrangler vehicles; these populations showed a lower incident rate than the subject vehicles, especially in comparison to the RHD subject vehicles. Chrysler's investigation showed that the higher rate of RHD Wrangler CS failures were due to a more severe duty cycle for these vehicles which are primarily used by US Postal workers/mail carriers delivering mail in rural regions.Chrysler concluded the unique vehicle usage, much of which occurs with the driver's window open and under dusty environmental conditions, is the cause of premature CS failure.Chrysler's analysis also indicated that the somewhat elevated MY2007 LHD rate, which showed a declining failure trend, was the result of start-up production/assembly issues that occurred with the introduction of a new design CS.The new design CS incorporated both dual airbag inflator circuitry and a steering wheel angle sensor (for the electronic stability control system). On November 1, 2011, Chrysler submitted a defect notice indicating it will conduct a recall of all MY 2008-2012 RHD Wrangler vehicles (11V528).The estimated 5,334 RHD Wrangler vehicles include the 2,297 MY 2008 RHD Wrangler vehicles, which were the subject of this investigation, plus an additional 3,037 MY 2009-2012 RHD Wrangler vehicles that Chrysler determined potentially have a similar CS concern as the MY 2008 RHD vehicles.Chrysler intends to replace the existing CS with a yet-to-be-produced improved CS assembly, or an improved steering housing assembly that is less susceptible to dusty environments.Owner notice is scheduled to begin in November, 2011.Chrysler also informed ODI that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for MY2007 LHD Wrangler which will extend the CS warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles.Accordingly the investigation is closed.
ODI found the rate of warranty claims related to fuel spit back on the subject vehicles is lower than other vehicles previously recalled to correct defects related to fuel spit back.Although the rate of complaints reported to the agency on the subject vehicles is higher than or similar to the rates experienced in previous investigations where safety recalls were conducted, ODI suspects that the NHTSA safety complaints submitted by subject vehicles owners may have been influenced by internet related publicity both before and during this investigation.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that no safety-related defect exists. The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right to take future action if warranted by the circumstances.See attached report for additional information. In addition, Chrysler is initiating a lifetime warranty program, at no cost to the consumer, to address the fuel spit back problem in approximately 135,000 model year 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler vehicles built from March 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008.Chrysler will notify all affected vehicle owners of this action.Consumers should refer to the warranty and service bulletins and sample owner notification letter available in the investigative file. The vehicle build date can be found on the certification label located on the driver door or door jamb.
In a letter dated november 3, 2009, chrysler group llc (chrysler), notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall of approximately 161,000 model year (my) 2007 and 2008 jeep wrangler vehicles built with automatic transmissions.chrysler stated that these vehicles were not equipped with a transmission fluid temperature warning system and the operation of these vehicles beyond the limits of reasonable usage over a period of time could result in transmission failure and in some cases transmission fluid expulsion.the expelled fluid could come in contact with a hot engine or exhaust component and cause a fire.chrysler will conduct a safety recall to install a hot oil warning message in the instrument cluster and a chime indicating an elevated transmission fluid temperature condition.an owner's manual addendum stating the purpose of the hot oil message and chime to include caution and warning statements regarding elevated transmission fluid temperature conditions will be provided to owners.based on chrysler's decision to conduct a safety recall this engineering analysis IS closed.
The defective tow bar assemblies involved in this recall were supplied to chrysler for use on some of its jeep wrangler vehicles.the purpose of this investigation was to identify any additional purchasers of identical or substantially similar defective assemblies and to initiate additional defect reporting and safety recalls as necessary.to accomplish this rmd contacted the supplier of the assemblies, valley towing products, and confirmed no other such assemblies were distributed.this eq IS therefore closed.
On july 3, 2007, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa describing a defect that could result in engine stall while driving in approximately 80,894 model year (my) 2007 jeep wrangler and dodge nitro vehicles manufactured between january 30, 2006 and january 22, 2007 (nhtsa recall 07v-291, dcc recall g25).according to dcc, the totally integrated power module (tipm) in these vehicles was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain conditions.dcc will reprogram the tipm in the recalled vehicles with revised software. Odi opened pe07-027 on may 29, 2007, based on 53 complaints alleging engine stall and/or loss of electrical power in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles.odi was also monitoring similar complaints in my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.dcc's analysis of complaints to dcc and nhtsa found that many described events with a momentary loss of electrical power inside the vehicle and a corresponding loss of engine power.many of the reports also indicated that the instrument cluster telltale lamps momentarily illuminated during the event. Dcc's engineering analysis determined that the tipm could initiate an internal reset cycle lasting approximately 75 ms in response to error messages on the communication bus.the key on signal from the tipm to the powertrain control module (pcm) IS lost during a tipm reset.if the pcm loses the key on signal for longer than 40 ms, it interprets it as the vehicle ignition being turned off and begins a power down routine.after the tipm reset, the key on signal IS restored and the pcm powers back up.if the rotating components of the engine contain sufficient inertia, the vehicle may restart with no input from the operator as reported in some of the complaints.if the engine does not restart in this manner, it can be restarted by the operator.a revision to the tipm software on january 22, 2007 changed the tipm reset time to 17 ms, removing the potential for pcm power down and engine stall. Odi has received 178 complaints potentially related to the alleged defect in my 2007 jeep wrangler vehicles and 52 complaints involving my 2007 dodge nitro vehicles.two of the nitro complaints allege that a crash resulted from an engine stall incident, one of which caused minor injuries to a passenger.as of june 1, 2007, dcc identified 151 wrangler complaints and 128 nitro complaints. This investigation has been closed with dcc's recall.
