Less than 30 days after purchasing my 2009 jeep wrangler unlimited sahara, I was driving it and went to press the brake pedal while the vehicle was in motion going approximately 35 mph. when I pressed the brakes I heard a grinding noise, my vehicle slowed down slightly but not as much as it normally did, it pulled to the left, and wobbled whenever I pressed the brakes causing me to momentarily loose control as a result of it fish tailing. I was unable to stop or slow the vehicle in the same amount of time as it normally took to do so. I immediately drove to an auto mechanic. I took it to pope davis tire & automotive located at 631 s assembly street in columbia south carolina where I was told my the manager, [xxx] that the fluid went bad and caused damage to all 2 hydraulic hoses, front brakes, calipers, and rotors, and that they along with my pads all needed to be replaced. it cost me approximately $880. I found out later that there was an recall on the same year, make, and model. however, my specific vin number did not have this recall. I feel that it was overlooked and I should be reimbursed. *bf consumer stated the leakage could of been due to right and left front inner fender liners caused by wear of tubes. *Jb information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr
- Fuel/propulsion system
When refueling, regardless of fill level the gas will not flow into tank properly on level ground, and spews out all over the ground/car/person. It will not take fuel in any position. It takes about 10-15 minutes to refuel from empty. It will take gas until the filler neck fills up and then you have to stop and let it drain into tank. You have to repeat this over and over again until full.
- Fuel/propulsion system
When fililng the fuel tank, no matter which gas station I use, the tank overflows when full, spilling gasoline before the pump shutoff can activate. This IS stationary, turned off, and level. I've owned this car since feb 2015 and it IS a highly repeatable problem.

My wife called me from work saying her jeep was smoking after parking the vehicle. I rushed to her job and found smoke coming from under the jeep. What I found was debris was stuck between the frame and the exhaust pipe in the center of the jeep. Pinestraw been collecting there and was smoldering. I thought that was a fluke but much to my surprise my wife pulled into the garage 2 days ago and the car smelled like it was burning and I removed about 10 handfuls of pinestraw that was smoldering. We do not park the car in the garage anymore for fear of a fire. What makes no sense IS the debris not collecting behind the tires but in the middle of the car. It IS my opinion that jeep should follow up with a recall or at least tell me how to rectify the problem.

Everytime I fill up my gas tank it overflows!!! Leaving gas all over the ground, me and my poor jeep. With gas running on my bumper and well discoloring it. Please fix this issue.
- Fuel/propulsion system
I have a problem with fuel overflowing every time I go to the gas station. I've tried different pumps and different gas stations and have the same problem every time. I bought the car 1 month ago and iyhe overflow has been a constant problem. After researching this problem online, I see this IS a problem for many jeep wrangler owners. This IS a costly and potentially dangerous issue.
- Fuel/propulsion system
When fueling this vehicle the nozzle will not shut off correctly resulting in fuel overflowing and spilling out, aprox 1/2 pint worth. cause unknown. Seems to happen in the fall winter and spring but not the summer. Not sure if the temperature or fuel blend has something to do with it. Bought vehicle new in '09 and its been doing it regularly. jeep recalled '07 and '08 for this problem. '09 has the same problem.

Experienced the violent shaking of the front suspension and steering wheel while traveling at approximately 55 mph. apparently this IS referred to as a "death wobble" but a recall has not been issued yet. my best guess IS, after multiple people die from this malfunction and sue the chrysler/jeep corporation, then it a recall might be issued and the problem fixed! I am highly agitated by this issue and the reoccurence!!!!!

Upon filling the jeep with gasoline (since owning the car), no matter the pump/station, the automatic stopping mechanism will stop filling when it IS full and a "bubble" will back flow causing gasoline to shoot out of the car and soak the bumper/fender/me. I do not feel safe at a gas station covered in gasoline so have tried fixing this. I have replaced the evap canister but am not sure what to do rather than get an entire new gas tank.

Death wobble - severe bouncing of front end when hitting a bump going around 60 mph. this has happen over 10 times in the last three months and after I had a new steering stabilizer (horizontal shock absorber) installed on front axel.
- Electronic stability control (esc) · Steering · Suspension
Car shakes violently between 50-55 mph. Front steering stabilizer has been replaced three times, "death wobble" still occurs. Happens on smooth, non-bumpy roads as well as bumpy ones.
- Fuel/propulsion system
Gas tank overflows every time I fill the tank. Internal flange IS either non-existent, damaged, or inoperable as this happens every time I fill the tank. Unless I stop the fill short of 16 gallons, gas spills all over the jeep & usually all over myself as well.

Anytime I am driving on the highway and I hit a minor bump in the road the steering wheel shakes extremely violently. when this happens the only fix IS to slow down to below 25 mph in my current lane. once I get to that low of a speed the shaking stops. when the shaking occurs it IS so violent that I can't change lanes or get onto the shoulder. therefore, the only option IS to slow down to under 25 mph on the highway in my current lane which isn't safe. this problem started happening in december 2016.

Driving on the interstate at a constant speed and hit a rough area on the pavement and the vehicle began to vibrate and rock back and forth violently. I was able to steer it, but had to pull off the road for this violent rocking to stop. it IS not a constant problem, but occurs when certain rough areas of pavement set up this violent vibration. this has occurred on numerous occasions over the last several years. tried to get it fixed, seemed to be a mystery. learned that this IS experienced by many owners of jeeps and other select vehicles. There are many, many descriptions and videos on the internet. I also see complaints of this on your site. why do you not care? why are you not doing your job? I did not get killed. IS this what it takes for you to take notice? I want nothing, only for this to be remedied. it IS certainly a safety concern & quite frightening, especially then this occurs in heavy traffic. *tr

When the vehicle IS at a gas station stationary and filling the fuel tank gas spits out at the filler neck when the pump IS left to stop automatically. This issue started at approximately 50,000 miles which s outside of the 36 k miles warranty period. This happens at every fill up and spills about a pint of fuel out onto the vehicle and the ground. It IS a consistent issue that repeats at every fill up when the pump IS left to stop automatically.

******* tipm issues *******while driving 70mph down interstate the jeep lost all power and control abilities and came to a screeching halt in the middle of the interstate. I immediately tried to start up and was like it had a dead battery. Cars were swerving and blowing like crazy trying to avoid me and not wreck. Once traffic was somewhat stable I got out to push jeep off to side of interstate and a another motorist stopped to help. My passenger was hurt from the sudden stop when her knees went into the dash. The seat belt did not restrain her resulting in her left knee getting bruised and her right knee got a cut. I have since researched this issue and have found this to be a very common and serious issue with these models. We are both lucky to be alive from this being that several vehicles nearly hit us as well as almost hitting others. There needs to be a warning addressed to all owners as this being a potential wreck less condition. I would like someone from chrysler or the highway safety council contact me at [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

I dropped my jeep off for a noise in the transmission on 06 september 2016, I then received a phone on the 8TH that my jeep had caught fire because the transmission had overheated. The dealership was in possession of my vehicle through this process and stated that I would need to file a claim through my insurance company.

On May 10, 2016, Fiat Chrysler America (FCA) submitted a Part 573 Defect Information Report announcing NHTSA recall 16V290 involving 394,258 model year (MY) 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles.Under the recall FCA will replace the clockspring and install a steering wheel back cover and steering wheel column shroud. This recall also includes approx. 4,524 MY2007-2010 right hand drive (RHD) Jeep Wrangler vehicles commonly used for rural postal delivery services. In addition 7,180 MY 2011-2016 right hand drive Jeep Wrangler vehicles were also recalled under 16V288, the same remedy repair will be used.Upon review of the 1,942 MY 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler consumer complaints, 17,195 warranty reports and field returned parts assessment, FCA concluded that a defect exists in the driver side clockspring assembly, a device that both connects (electrically) the driver air bag to the control module and allows rotational movement between the steering wheel and fixed steering column.Clockspring failure may compromise the air bag circuit causing illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and may result in non-deployment of the driver air bag in a frontal crash.FCA identified a contributing factor in that the recalled vehicles may be subjected to off-road dusty environments and/or usage with the vehicle roof top/doors removed thus allowing dust and moisture to enter the clockspring assembly.FCA advised that the MY 2011 and later Wrangler vehicles had an improved steering column cover/shroud that may reduce the amount of dirt/moisture that can enter the clockspring assembly.During the investigation FCA and the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) also reviewed 193 MY 2011-2012 Jeep Wrangler consumer complaints, 3,918 warranty reports and field returned parts along with reports from other FCA vehicles that use the same clockspring assembly.Based on this review, the rate of repair and the failure mode does not indicate a defect trend at this time in the later MY Wrangler or other FCA vehicles.During the field return parts review, FCA found a significant number of MY 2011-2012 Wrangler returned parts that operated normally, the so called ?no trouble found? or NTF parts where no fault could be identified through bench testing. On June 10, 2016, FCA informed ODI of its intention to conduct a 15-yr, 150k mile extended warranty program due to the NTF issue and the MY 2011 and later vehicles having a somewhat elevated level of warranty replacement.Consumers will be notified of the program in writing.FCA will collect clocksprings replaced under the warranty extension program to further examine and study the root cause failure.ODI will monitor FCA?s analysis to determine if any further field action is warranted.Based on the actions taken by FCA to recall the MY 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler vehicles and the MY 2008-2016 right hand drive Wrangler vehicles, this investigation is closed.FCA has also agreed to conduct a warranty extension and further evaluation of the MY 2011-2016 Wrangler. At the time of FCA's field data submission in PE 15-025 (September 2015), ODI was aware of a total of 416 MY 2007-2010 and 23 MY 2011-2012 VOQs relevant to this issue. In addition, there have been an additional 90 and 16 VOQs (respectively) received since the recall announcement (i.e., thru May 2016).The reports noted above can be viewed at SaferCar.gov under the reference (ODI) numbers cited on the attached listing.

In it's response to ODI's PE15-025 Information Request letter, FCA identified 1,703 consumer complaints, field reports and legal claims responsive to the subject defect condition on the subject Wrangler vehicles.Six of these reports alleged an air bag non-deployment in a crash in which either the air bag warning light…
In it's response to ODI's PE15-025 Information Request letter, FCA identified 1,703 consumer complaints, field reports and legal claims responsive to the subject defect condition on the subject Wrangler vehicles.Six of these reports alleged an air bag non-deployment in a crash in which either the air bag warning light was allegedly on or came on afterward the crash, one of which also alleged injuries as a result of the non-deployment.FCA also provided data on other make, model and model year vehicles using the same clockspring.Additionally FCA provided 16,955 warranty claims related to the replacement of the air bag clockspring wiring assembly. It should be noted that FCA initiated an Extended Warranty Program on the left hand drive MY 2007 Wrangler in late calendar year 2011.6,777 of these claims are from the MY 2007 left hand drive Wrangler.FCA advises that some of the warranty claims involved clockspring failures that would not affect the air bag operation, for example due to noise, cruise control and/or radio operation issues. Many of these claims involved newer model year subject vehicles.FCA also noted that Wrangler's removable roof and door configuration may make it more susceptible to outdoor water/moisture and dust ingress.ODI investigated the right hand drive Wrangler in calender year 2011 for a similar clockspring issue under PE11-019.That investigation lead to NHTSA Safety Recall 11V258 on right hand drive model year (MY) 2008-2012 Wranglers.FCA redesigned the remedy clockspring to improve its durability and environmental protection and revised the design of the steering wheel to column shroud.Base on the data reviewed, this Preliminary Analysis (PE) is being upgraded to an Engineering Analysis (EA).The reports cited above are listed in the public investigative file available at SaferCar.gov under this investigation ID.

In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with TIPM-7. Approximately 3 percent of CAS complaints are related to vehicles equipped with TIPM-6 and ODI?s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. ODI conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by CAS and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available Customer Assistance Inquiry reports (CAIR). Analysis of the field data indicated that MY2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (FPR) failures than other subject vehicles. In a September 3, 2014 letter to NHTSA, Chrysler submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) identifying a defect in the FPR within the TIPM-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (MY) 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) and Dodge Durango (WD) vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010 through July 20, 2011 (14V-530).In a February 24, 2015 letter, Chrysler submitted a second DIR expanding the scope of the FPR defect condition to include an additional 338,216 MY 2012 through 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured from September 17, 2010 through August 19, 2013 and MY 2012 through 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 18, 2011 through August 19, 2013 (15V-115).ODI analysis of the CAS allegations of TIPM defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the TIPM assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is den
