Safety record from NHTSA: recalls, owner complaints, investigations and service bulletins.
These records cover every 2004 Lexus ES 330. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
2 recalls name the 2004 Lexus ES 330. Newest first.
Toyota IS recalling certain model year 2004 avalon vehicles; 2004 and 2005 camry, camry solara, highlander, and sienna vehicles, 2006 highlander hybrid; 2004 and 2005 lexus es330 and rx330; and 2006 lexus rx400h vehicles manufactured from june 1, 2004 through march 31, 2005, equipped with the 1mz-fe or 3mz-fe engine. the amount of adhesive agent applied…
In some cases, the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley which could result in a loss of power steering and a sudden increase in steering effort, increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will check the crankshaft pulley to identify whether it was produced by the u.s. Supplier. if so, the dealer will replace the pulley with a new one at no charge. the safety recall IS expected to begin during early january 2012. owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
On certain passenger vehicles equipped with a front passenger power seat, when installing certain rear-facing infant child seat bases onto the seat with an excessively high seatbelt tension, it may be possible to unseat a component called the buckle status switch from the seat belt buckle.
If the switch becomes unseated, the front passenger occupant classification system may mistake the rear-facing child restraint for an unbelted adult occupant, and may not suppress the deployment of the front passenger airbag.
Dealers will replace the front passenger seatbelt buckle status switch. this safety improvement campaign (ssc 40M) began on december 20, 2004. owners should contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or lexus at 1-800-255-3987..
Every window has stopped working.the first one stopped going up d own ten years ago now they have all stopped.
Upper right motor mount has been replaced 3 times. Now car IS vibrating between 45-60 and has no power and IS taking up to 1-2 minute's.
Air bag light came on when idle and won't go off. Code b1787. Never in an accident. Unplugged and re-plugged all connections; disconnected battery for 15 minutes but did not reset light. Dealer checked and could not reset system. No air bag protection now. Fix requires new seat with sensors est $4500. Can't afford to fix.
Passenger air bag light came on about 6 months ago and won't cut off,i haven't been in a car accident nor has my airbag emploded, had it look at by mechanic at auto shop where I get my oil changes and such he didn't recognize any problems, called lexus dealership and they want to charge an arm and a leg just to look at it.
I started my car and all of the sudden, air bag light came on. I never had an accident, airbags were never deployed, I checked all the wires and even unplugged the battery for good 10 minutes and the light will not go off. In case of an accident, my car will not deploy air bags and it creates a potential threat that it can be an insta-death, especially with a steering wheel in front of your face.
B1650 code - occupancy classification system code displays. never been in accident and will not go away. appeared at start up overnight.
Passenger side airbag cover IS separating from dashboard and appears to have pressure behind it. vinyl IS cracked on top side of airbag cover.
I was in 3 accidents and my air bags did not deployed. 1 accident I was hit in the back, I was not moving when the car hit me from behind (on the fwy), he must of been driving at a speed of 45 mph. I t-boned a car going at a speed of approx. 35 mph.
Airbag has partially opened and I am afraid it will explode at any given moment.
Cruise control doing 5-10mph with the cruise control on the car surged foward and even braking I hit the car in front of me
The seat belt for passenger side and the seat assembly malfunctioned when my passenger buckled his seat belt. There was a popping sound and then the airbag light came on. The system was re calibrated at the dealership but I continue to have sporadic problems with this issue. I cannot have a passenger due to this issue.
I continually have to replace the disc brakes on this vehicle. The pads don't wear down very much, but the brake pedal gets low and spongy. This IS after normal driving. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2004 lexus es330. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was previously inspected per nhtsa campaign number: 11v539000 (engine and engine cooling), but the repair was never performed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft pulley fractured and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.
Takata recall my 2004 lexus ES 330 has a malfunctioning passenger side airbag. There IS a light that says passenger airbag off that IS illuminated. Also, there IS a gap in the housing where the airbag IS located on the dash of the passenger side. I am concerned there has been no formal recall on this issue. There are several complaints online from consumers with same issue on the same make/model. Please add this vehicle to the recall.
No one has notified me of the recall of my toyota lexus 2004 model 330 to let us know if we need the airbags replaced.
I was driving at 9:30am cst on 7/27/16 when my car experience unintentional acceleration for about 1.5 miles. my car refused to slow down, even while I had the brakes applied. I have had my car sent to lexus headquarters to be investigated.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 lexus es330. While driving 35 mph, the air bag light illuminated, and the cruise control, fuel gauge, and horn failed to function. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the entire electrical housing system of the front passenger seat failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.
When starting the lexus ES 330 2004 for the first time in the day it makes a horrible sound that lasts about 5 seconds while still parked then when driving it seems like I am forcing it do accelerate. after being warmed up it IS fine and after subsequent starts it does not make that noise.
Without any incidents, our dashboard light for the airbags came on. The dealer says the entire part IS in an electrical housing in the passenger seat and it to be replaced as a whole part at a cost of $4000. A separate mechanic we have used long term says it IS the entire drivers seat that needs to be replaced not the passenger side and this one IS at a cost of $6000. They both state it's not part of the recent airbag recalls. They know the airbags have not inflated, yet cannot guarantee that they will inflate in the event of an accident. The vehicle has been in our possession as original owners and no one else drives this vehicle. It has never been in an accident or fender bender or anything. The light came on one morning after it had been parked in our driveway all night. We don't park on the street.
TL* the contact owned a 2004 lexus es330. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph and exiting the residence, the vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle. The contact stated that the frontal air bags and side curtain air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact suffered minor injuries to the head and neck that did not require medical attention. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 199,999.
Since I purchased this vehicle in 2008 I had the problems with the car jerking between 40-60mph and had the dealer to investigate my concerns which I took the car to a lexus dealership for diagnosis of the problems which they never found; I was then told that this problem occurs in all 2004 330es and the problem wasn't detected. So I drove this car for all the years I have it with the same problems; until 12/19/2015 the problem continued when I was enroute to another town and the engine light came on and the vehicle began jerking and slowed down and I could no longer accelerate the engine; when doing so the car made an arkward sound; so I began to turn around and head back home from where I was it was 8 miles back; and the car was jerking and shaking to where it was about to shut down completely and still pulling; I had my car towed to the dealership and left it over the weekend; and they finally found the problem code p0303 cylinder 3 misfire and po353 ignition coil, which was the problem all along but they couldn't find it because at the time there was no light indicator on; but now that the warranty expired for which the dealer I purchased the vehicle was reliable for the payment. $500 later the problem discovered. Also recall on the issue but not the vehicle I own; since I experienced the same problems I feel that the recall should have included my vehicle and a refund due.
Passenger side airbag cover IS separating from the dash. I appears to be rising up from its flat position on the dash and I'm afraid it might deploy and injure a passenger. IS this a takata airbag?
The passenger side airbag IS splitting or busting around the top of it, where it attaches to the rest of the dashboard. Not sure how this affects the airbag as far as its performance if in an accident. Or if it continues to split will the airbag deploy.
The passenger side airbag seem to have developed a tear around the top edge. Not sure if this affects the deployment of the airbag. After doing a search on th web this problem IS very common for lexus ES 330 of 2003 onwards
Was driving 2004es 330 lexus on interstate, traffic was light, cloudy day @1:20pm. Had been on interstate for maybe 15-18 mins of driving before accident occurred. All of a sudden steering seem to lock and car just started spinning uncontrollable. Hit one brick overpass then sprung into the opposite side, hitting another brick wall, continued to spin until it rest against the brick wall again. After help came to pull me out, car was smoking. We could not get it into park to prevent from continue to roll backwards. We just left door open...rest against brick wall to prevent car from rolling into oncoming traffic. hero truck drug it to a safe location out of traffic. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a letter dated july 8, 2005, and after experiencing two incidents (and one crash) where he alleges his model year (my) 2002 camry accelerated without driver input, mr. Jordan ziprin petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration?s (nhtsa) office of defects investigation (odi) to commence a proceeding to determine the existence of a defect within the etc system in my 2002 to 2005 toyota and lexus vehicles, or to reopen a prior investigation preliminary evaluation (pe) 04-021.in a letter dated august 18, 2005, mr. Ziprin amended his petition to include allegations of interrelated brake and acceleration problems that allegedly result in inappropriate and uncontrollable vehicle accelerations.the 1172 vehicle owner questionnaire reports cited by the petitioner involve 4 lexus and 15 toyota models defining a population of 7 million vehicles.the reports typically alleged a defect in the brake system, the throttle control system, or a combination of both systems.in its review of the reports, odi a) failed to find evidence to support the existence of a brake related defect in the cited models, and b) determined that many cited products were not equipped with etc.accordingly, odi restricted its analysis to the 432 petitioner reports involving my 2002 to 2005 camry, solara, and ES models (all equipped with etc) that alleged an abnormal throttle control event (see the january 3, 2006 federal register notice for further details).about 40% of the 432 reports involve a driveability concern where the operator intentionally applies the throttle pedal, in expectation that the vehicle will accelerate, and then experiences a delay or hesitation in vehicle response.these reports involve vehicle response to intentional driver commands which odi considers unrelated to the allegations raised by the petitioner.therefore, the reports do not provide support for the investigation requested.about 20% of the reports involve incidents where operators allege vehicle acceleration without driver input and an inability of the brake system to control the vehicle when applied.neither the reports, nor the interviews conducted by odi, identified any vehicle-based cause to explain the incidents or disclosed evidence to support that a failure of the brake or throttle control system had occurred.because these reports do not indicate a distinct safety defect for investigation, the reports do not provide support for the investigation requested by the petitionerthe remaining reports (~ 40%, similar to the petitioner?s and those of pe04-021) typically describe incidents where a vehicle IS being maneuvered at slow speed in a close quarter situation at which point the operator alleges that the vehicle accelerates without driver input and crashes.in the aftermath, operators are unsure of whether the brakes were applied or not, sometimes stating there was insufficient time to use the brake; a crash occurred and the operator believes an uncommanded acceleration caused it.in spite of the effort expended during pe04-021 and during this analysis, odi has not identified any vehicle-based cause to explain the reports, or uncovered any evidence to indicate that a throttle control system failure occurred.therefore, the reports have ambiguous significance and do not constitute a basis on which any further investigative action IS warranted.based on the analysis conducted, it IS unlikely that the nhtsa would issue an order for the notification and remedy of a safety related defect at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.consequently, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa?s limited resources t
