Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with the 3.0L plug-in hybrid powertrain. The inlet charge port harness bus bar may become unseated, leading to a loss of drive power.
Risk and remedy
Risk
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the inlet charge port harness date code label, and replace the harness, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 2, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S19.

Vehicle went into limp home mode at highway speeds, reporting stored OBD-II codes including: U0100, U0415:00:08, U0415:00:28, B1088, U0418, U0253, U3000:42:69, P061A The check engine light illuminated. The dashboard spewed numerous systems disabled message. OTA messages reported: "The hill start assist system has detected a failure" "The Collision Warning system has detected either a system fault or an obstructed radar sensor." "Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power September 15, 2026 at 8:48 AM The Engine system has detected a fault." Ford's user manual indicates that the vehicle should be safely driven below 60MPH to the nearest service center and should not be driven until repaired. The vehicle exited limp home mode after pulling over to the side of the road and turning off engine and accessory power. Two different Ford dealers have indicated they cannot repair the vehicle unless they can reproduce the error. "Limp Home" is clearly recorded in Ford telematics messages available to both Ford and the dealerships. There is enough information recorded and captured in stored codes for Ford to diagnose and repair a problem with communications between either ABS and the ECM/PCM or between regenerative braking electronics and ABS. This PHEV is unusable until Ford diagnoses and repairs the communications path. The vehicle is covered under Ford warranties. The U3000 DTC has a known SSM related to APIM and camera failures. Although the failure occurred on Sunday, 13 September 2026 at approximately 10PM MDT, the dashboard messages were not reported or logged by Ford's telematics servers until Tuesday, 15 September 2026.

This vehicle suffers from the low-pressure fuel pump defect tracked under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V455000 (Ford Recall 25S75). Since 2024, the vehicle has experienced a recurring Check Engine Light accompanied by engine hesitation and fuel delivery failures. Because the manufacturer has failed to provide a final recall remedy, the authorized Lincoln dealership repeatedly refused to fix the underlying issue. Instead, they continually cleared the error codes and instructed me to keep driving the vehicle. Operating the vehicle with this active safety defect caused severe fuel-management failures and misfires, forcing raw fuel into the exhaust system and completely melting the catalytic converter. The manufacturer is now refusing to cover the catalytic converter under the Federal Emissions Warranty, citing that the vehicle is slightly over 80,000 miles—even though the failure was explicitly documented by the dealer well before that threshold. The lack of a timely recall remedy has directly resulted in secondary vehicle damage, creating an unsafe operating condition and compromised emissions controls.

Safety issue that occurs while driving that nearly caused me to drive off rd multiple times, has been reported by others on Lincoln forum & appears to be pervasive safety issue. 2nd row seat automatically folds down, moves up & slams into back of drivers seat, even WHILE driving. Happened sev times, twice at night while on Hwy doing 70mph. Had to pull off Hwy, push seat back & relatch. 2 hrs later, it happened again. Previously, dealer looked at but couldn’t ID cause. Now, tech reports button on top of 2nd row seat was stuck down even though it ‘looks’ like it’s not. Some have had dealer replace the button but after a few mos the new one gets stuck. Others report theirs is stuck down & since car’s out of warranty, they need to pay to fix it (to avoid an accident). Urging NHTSA to investigate as this is a significant safety concern.

Upon researching this issue I have found that Ford Motor Company has used soy-based wire coatings which has led to this being a consistent problem with this vehicle. Not only did this cost me $1,500+ dollars to repair which is not covered by warranty it clearly presents a safety hazard in a hybrid vehicle with a high voltage system. It isn't right that Ford Motor Company sticks me with this bill nor is is right that this is allowed to go on without them being responsible to replace affected wiring.

The contact owns a 2022 Lincoln Aviator. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V342000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while the vehicle was reversing at approximately 3 MPH, the back-over prevention camera screen turned blue. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent however, after turning off and restarting the vehicle on several occasions the vehicle regained normal functionality. The failure mileage was 8,530. Parts distribution disconnect.

After dealer did 3 software updates for recalls I experienced 2 safety issues: 1) Wiper blades now do not recline to the proper position. Right blade goes down past windshield & hits the plastic piece making an extremely loud whack. Left blade does not lower to proper position & obstructs the lower view of windshield & the washer on left blade no longer works. 2) More concerning is while driving in reverse (in rain & dark), the car came to a complete & sudden halt practically giving me whiplash & making an extremely loud crash sound. Car came to such a hard & sudden stop I thought I had hit a wall even though there was 1) No warning light displayed or sound to indicate an obstruction or pending crash 2) Nothing displayed on rear camera. Got out to see what I hit & why car stopped but found nothing wrong. Proceeded to continue backing up & it happened again. The car went about 3’ more then same thing happened. Then another 3’ it happened a 3rd time. It jolted my neck 3 times leaving me in pain. This incident was extremely frightening given I’m a handicapped driver & could have been stranded somewhere alone unable to drive the car at all. I suspect these 2 safety issues are related to Lincoln’s recall remedy & software updates as nothing else was done on my vehicle during my recent service other than replacing the front grill emblem.

I brought the vehicle to the dealership and was told they needed to replace the full suspension system and two front struts. Vehicle has been waiting for parts for over a month.

I have had multiple CHECK ENGINE LIGHT issues where the description is "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP - REGULATORY" and the detailed description is a problem with THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM (EVAP). It would also flash "Full Accessory Power Active". After some internet searches I found a thread in ford that said "let the car sit for 20mins and it will restart". https://www.mustangecoboost.net/threads/i-think-i-figure-out-how-to-fix-the-full-accessory-power-active.22706/#:~:text=It%20means%20you%20have%20full,press%20the%20start%20button%20again. I did that and vehicle restarted. I made an appt with my local Lincoln dealer, Bill Collins Lincoln, and they inspected the car on 1-18 thru 1-21. They did not find anything wrong with it but did find the codes. They stated they thought the battery was dead. This was impossible due to the fact I drove the car 500 miles from Alabama to KY on 12-21. Today, 2-2-22, my wife was driving home from work and the car shut off on the interstate. When I say shut off, I mean it died at 65mph. She tried to press the accelerator and the car just continued to de-accelerate. The check engine light popped up and said "Stop Safely Now". Luckily, my wife was able pull off the interstate without causing an accident. Once stopped, she turned the vehicle off and tried to restarted it. It popped the same message about "full accessory power" and the car wouldn't start. She tried the push button start to no avail, tried the remote start to no avail. Finally she used her "phone as a key" and it started. She was able to drive home. I have called Lincoln and made them aware of the issues. They have asked for me to bring the car in immediately. I informed them I would be filing a complaint here as well. This car is a $85,000 death trap. Lincoln needs to take this very seriously and an investigation needs to open to find out why this vehicle is behaving like this. It is n

On 5 separate occasions my car has given me a warning saying "Stop Safely Now." When I begin to slow down, the car looses all power and I have to coast to a stop somewhere. The first time the car started back up and I was able to drive it again, the following 4 times it had to be towed. Each time I was stranded on the side of the road - once literally on the road because I was unable to get onto the berm because of high snow drifts and the car just stopped, which was a huge safety issue. Each time this has happened it has taken approximately 3 hours for a Lincoln approved tow truck to come and get the vehicle leaving me stranded in the freezing cold with multiple children and no heat in my vehicle. My speed has varied each time this has happened. One time I was in park, another time I was doing 60+MPH and the others were in-between these speeds. I have multiple videos of what happens and have provided them to Lincoln. Lincoln has replaced the battery and also the Powertrain Control Module and nether of these have corrected the problem.

A warning appears on the dash "stop safely now" and the vehicle rapidly comes to a complete stop and is unable to be moved. This has occurred on three occasions, during 2 of which the car stalled in an active driving lane on a highway, resulting in life threatening situation. The app said "high voltage battery warning" triggered by "another event". Being investigated by Lincoln, who is re-acquiring the vehicle due to inability to appropriately diagnose and resolve the issue.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an unknown software needed to be reset for the vehicle to operate as needed. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sync module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred the following day. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,336.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

This may be due to a loose wiring connection to the belt integrated starter generator (BISG). The Workshop Manual (WSM) has recently been updated to provide new direction for DTC P0A1E. Refer to the WSM, Section 303-06 Starting System, Diagnosis and Testing, Starting System for applicable diagnosis.
- 10249420Some 2020-2022 Aviator and 2021-2022 Corsair hybrid vehicles built on or before 01-Apr-2022 may exhibit charging concerns with the Lincoln dual-voltage charging cord (TurboCord). This style of charging cord can be indentified by one of the 220V prongs positioned sideways. If the vehicle charges properly using a 110/120V non-ground fault interrupter (GFI) outlet with the original 220V adapter removed, replace the adapter (part number VLC5Z-10B706-B) alone. This replacement adapter is available from accessories.lincoln.com > keyword search Turbo Cord, or through the local Ford Authorized Distributor (FAD). Discoloration of the 220V adapter or dual voltage charging cord could indicate a problem with the electrical outlet used; if so a licensed electrician should inspect. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-01, Pinpoint Test C for diagnosis and repair. If the 125 amp fuse on the 14300 wire harness at the auxiliary battery is open, do not replace a complete wire harness to obtain this fuse. The 125 amp fuse (service part number JU5Z-14526-A) is now available separately for service. If the 125 amp fuse is ok, check C1168 connector / SBF08 circuit located underbody behind the left front wheel for wiring or connector issues. For additional C1168 location images, view WSM 414-01 > Removal and Installation > Auxiliary Battery Cable. Repair as necessary per Wiring Diagram (WD) Cell 5 > Connector Repair Procedures.

To correct the condition, run the APIM-SYNC Module (APIM) Standard Programming application using the latest software level of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). For claiming, use causal part 14G371 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

This may be due to an internal SOBDM concern. To correct the concern, replace the SOBDM following Workshop Manual, Section 414-03B Removal and Installation, Secondary On-board Diagnostic Control Module. For claiming use base part # 10B689 and the applicable labor operations of Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
- 10222524Certain 2020 - 2022 Model Year Aviator PHEV and Explorer PHEV Vehicles Reprogram Powertrain Control Module In all of the affected vehicles, if the vehicle is charging via the charging cable and the customer requests a remote start, disconnects the charging cable, and then drives the vehicle, the engine may not start when needed and the vehicle will be limited to high voltage battery power. DTC P1A0C will set and a Stop Safely Now message will be displayed when the high voltage battery becomes depleted.

- 10210236Some 2020-2022 Aviator Hybrid vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL and a Stop Safely Now message with only DTC P1A0C stored in the PCM. This may be due to the software in the battery energy control module (BECM). The condition occurs when the vehicle is started when the charging cord is connected. To prevent the condition from occurring, disconnect the charger prior to starting the vehicle. If the charger is not disconnected before starting, the ignition will need to be cycled before driving. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and engineering is currently working on a solution for this condition that is expected in May-2022. No additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Monitor OASIS for updates and schedule a service appointment for customers once the repair becomes available.
