The contact stated that the EV battery warning light was constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to two dealers, including Napleton Autowerks of Indiana (1349 Indianapolis Blvd, Schererville, IN 46375), who confirmed that the parts were not yet available. he vehicle intermittently fails to shift from Park (P) to Drive (D). Recently, the car was completely immobilized for over 6 hours because the gear would not engage, making it dangerous and unpredictable to drive. Additionally, the vehicle has experienced multiple charging failures where charging repeatedly cuts off unexpectedly. A formal diagnosis from Mercedes-Benz of Cary confirmed a front axle drive unit failure and high-voltage insulation faults, triggering codes U041A00 and P154800. Crucially, the certified technician noted a grinding noise coming from the axle drive module, which occurs specifically when slowing down. These symptoms perfectly mirror the known manufacturing defects outlined in NHTSA Recall 24V331 for the 2022 EQB front axle drivetrain failure. Despite clear connections to documented, catastrophic high-voltage safety hazards, Mercedes-Benz USA has denied warranty coverage and is demanding an outrageous repair cost of over $14,000 from the owner.

This urgent safety issue with the high voltage battery on the 2022 Mercedes EQB has been known to Mercedes since at least July 2025. As of May 15, mercedes tells me I will have a repair scheduled by December 30, 2026. They offer no explanation for the delay. This is unreasonable and unacceptable. I am requesting that the NHSTA inform Mercedes that they must do better to eliminate this known fire hazard, and inform me of the penalties you can impose on Meercedes if they do not complete this recall in a timely fashion.

We are currently under NHTSA Recall ID: 26V073 and Mercedes-Benz has not given us a reasonable timeline with which they intend to remedy the recall. We are currently unable to drive the car safely and unable to park the car safely without the risk of fire. To not have any answers as to when this recall will be remedied is unacceptable.
Mercedes previously issued a software update for the battery fire risk, but we have received a letter more than a year later stating that this fix was not adequate. We pursued a vehicle buyback due to the safety risk this presents to my family, and Mercedes vehemently stated that the issue was resolved and the vehicle did not qualify. The vehicle is an inherent risk to my family's safety if it may just catch fire at any time.
