More often than not, when I start up my vehicle an indicator for a light out appears on my dash. I have been pulled over several times for a right rear brake light being out. I have replaced the bulb numerous times. I was recommended to look on your web sight and I saw that a recall had been issued campaign ID 05v505000 on my make/model for this problem. However when I put in my vin number it produced zero recalls. How do I know if this vehicle has ever had the recall issue corrected? Also, what I can do to get the issue rectified?

He engine died while I was driving in traffic. I managed to coast to a corner and get off the main street, there was no warning.i had to leave this car for one day to find it towed by police , and had to call and get it the next day payed 300$ and get it towed again to a mecanic payed 85$ and 100$ for checking. the mecanic told me it look like it have big problem, I diceded to see a profitionel and so I had to pay an other towing fee of 80$ and an other 110$ for checking to find out that the hall engine just damaged and told me that I need a new one that will cost me 3500$.

The mercedes benz SLK 230 2001 model brakes randomly with the front tires left or right or both, engine performance goes down to super slow for a fraction of a second. the car turns to the left or right and slows down abruptly and only due to my fast reaction I am able to avoid traffic accidents ! this can happen at any time and any speed and any place. the last time at about 1MPH on a parking lot, before at about 75mph on the interstate !

My vehicle would would suddenly come to an abrupt stop without applying the brakes. it would do this at any speed. It was happening everyday. We had to stop driving it. We towed it to the dealer and they told us the yaw sensor was bad. there are many complaints about this on the internet. It IS dangerous and could cause a deadly accident. The cost to repair was $1000.

Vehicle type IS 2001 mercedes benz slk230 (R170 model). The inside rear view mirror IS an electrochromic self dimming mirror that has no manual backup. The mirrors fail losing their ability to provide dimming against rear approaching headlights causing the driver to either be blinded or to have to turn the mirror up and have no rear view capability. I know of many documented cases of these mirrors failing including my own. Some fail by just quitting working while others leak the internal fluid. *Tr

However, prior to the failure the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign ID number: 05v505000 (exterior lighting: brake lights). The current mileage was 78,000 and the failure mileage was 10,000. The mirror contained a fluid which leaked out, causing the self-dimming feature to fail. so basically, I'm blinded by approaching headlights whenever I drive at night. the only fix IS to turn the mirror away and lose my rear view (which after all IS the entire purpose of the rear view mirror!) I researched online and there are hundreds of documented cases of these mirrors failing in various makes and models. I contacted the oem mirror maker and their only suggestion was to have my dealer install a new mirror at a cost of $300-400. that IS unacceptable. *Tr

Went into dealership was told it was ( yah sensor ) which tells the car that its going into a skid and allow the electronic stability control to stabilize the vehicle. The sensor was placed on order. Dealer did not advice me that this IS what I call (a major safety issue') nor that it may happen again before it can be repaired and allowed me to drive this vehicle home. The inside rear view mirror in my 2001 mercedes-benz SLK 230 (R170 model) IS a self-dimming mirror. The mirror contains a fluid which IS leaking out causing the self-dimming mirror to fail to dim against rear approaching headlights, resulting in the driver to either be blinded or to have to turn the mirror away. There are many documented cases of these mirrors failing in various makes and models as a result of the internal fluid leaking. The oem mirror maker has been contacted, and steve chenlo, from magna donnelly (his direct line IS 616-786-7495), refused to take ownership of the problem. His advice was to purchase another mirror at approximately $200, and pay for installation, which was approximately $100 from the dealership. About a year ago, magna donnelly was replacing these mirrors for free but stopped for unknown reasons. *Tr

As a result, you must rely on sideview mirrors only and a full over 90 degree head turn which IS in itself a safety hazard both physically for some individuals and a driving hazard as your attention IS completely diverted from the road. *Tr

For the last several months, esp/bas light will com on while traveling on highway, and brakes are applied involuntarily intermittently, creating a safety hazard. On occasion IS also happened at low speed in city traffic. Contacted the mercedes benz dealer, they immediately blamed yaw rate sensor, or accelerator sensor module replacement ranging between $300-700.00 in repair cost in addition to another related problem with stop light switch, although they are aware of the faulty parts, no recalls are made, and nhtsa also IS aware, but have closed the investigation. The car suddenly brakes last time to an screeching halt in middle of highway traffic. after searching mb forums it IS obvious that this IS a very common problem with a batch of sensors, and switches fitted on 2001 models, of m, e, CLK, and slk's. While driving on an interstate highway in wet conditions (raining on and off), my car suddenly jerked to the right; it felt as if my right rear wheel brakes had applied for a second or so. I noticed that the yellow triangle in the middle of the dash board that alerts me to the application of the esc was blinking (and continued to blink until I stopped the car and turned off the engine). As I recall, my car went into the lane to my right before I regained control. I had both hands on the wheel at the time. Because of the wet conditions, I assumed I may have skidded without my realizing it, causing the esc to kick in. When I got off the highway at the next opportunity, I turned off the motor and got out. Upon restarting the car, the esc light had gone out, and I assumed everything was okay. but the same thing happened again before I got to my destination (pittsburgh). I called a local dealer, who advised me it might be a defective sensor and that it should be okay to make the return drive to no. Virginia before getting the vehicle fixed. I had the same problem a few times on the return trip and then brought the car into my dealer. the dealer service form identified the problem as "necessary to replace the yaw rate sensor." the repair charge was $807.85. *tr

She received a recall letter from mercedes benz indicating that on certain passenger vehicles failure of one of the side brake lights could occur. The base of the socket could be subject to thermal deformation. She went to the dealership with the letter for them to correct the problem, but they refused to repair it without her paying for it. The recall letter indicated the recall was not in neffect until spring 2007. Recall campaign# 2006-080005. the current and failure mileage were 80000. *Ak

I was informed by a repair shop after several attempts to correct a brake light issue on 2001 mercedes benz slk230 that a recall had been issued campaign ID 05v505000 on my make/model for this problem. I scheduled a appointment with local dealer to get the socket replaced. I was told by the mercedes dealer that my car was not part of the recall. my make/model IS a part of the recall based upon information viewed on your website. why would the dealer not replace it? are they not required by law to perform the recalled work. *nm

In its letter dated october 28, 2005, mercedes-benz USA stated that it would conduct a safety recall to remedy defective brake lamp assemblies in model year 1998 through 2004 mercedes benz SLK vehicles.the base of the brake lamp socket can be subject to thermal deformation over time.this deformation can cause movement in the socket-to-bulb connection, which may lead to a loosening of the electrical contacts in the socket, and failure of the bulb to illuminate.all rear lamp modules (which contain brake, turn signal, tail and backup lamps) will be replaced with redesigned rear lamp modules with a more heat resistant material and enhanced socket holder design to withstand the heat inside the rear lamp module.see nhtsa recall no. 05V505 for more information.

- 11009122Complaint Washer fluid system leaks Cause Various possible causes: 1. Washer fluid reservoir itself. 2. Seal on washer fluid pump/washer fluid reservoir. 3. Washer fluid pump. 3.1. Distributor housing leaks. 3.2. Pump fitting leaks. 3.3. Washer fluid hose cannot be snapped into place on pump fitting. 3.4. Washer fluid hose will not stay on pump fitting, although connector OK. 4. Washer fluid line. 4.1 Connector will not stay on pump fitting because it is broken. 4.2 Sealing ring in connector missing. 4.3 Sealing ring in connector fitted, but deformed and therefore leaks. 4.4 Damage to washer line by animal. 5. Seal on heating washer fluid reservoir/washer fluid reservoir. Remedy Replace defective component parts only. Do not replace any adjacent component parts that are intact. Note: Repair kits for washer line hoses do exist to allow patches for line damage.
- 11008091Complaint During a phone call, the called party has difficulty understanding/cannot understand the driver, or interference/background noises are audible to the called party during a call. It becomes increasingly difficult to understand as the speed rises. Cause A. Seating of the microphones in the headliner. Side edges are covered by the textile cover (see picture "1") B. Assembly of microphones (B25/20 or B25/21) in the headliner. C. Dirt inside the microphone housing Remedy 1. Press finger on rear of microphone (on adhesive tape) 2. Remove microphone cap from the front 3. Eliminate protruding material residues of the microphone cutout at the headliner, e.g. with a soldering iron. The microphone must be seated in the headliner as shown in picture "2". 4. Push microphone from behind until it is firmly pressed into the headliner 5. Maintain pressure and press/clip cap into microphone from the front. Note: The cover cap must be clearly heard and felt to engage. 6. This procedure must be carried out on both microphones (B25/20 and B25/21) Note: It is recommended to replace the cover caps. The non-woven cloth in the cover cap protects the microphone from soiling and must not be removed. - 11007974Complaint Headlamps leaking or fogged Cause The fogging of the headlamp is a natural phenomenon which can occur under certain climatic conditions. In contrast to a leaky headlamp, physical fogging does not result in a technical impairment of the headlamp. A leak test must be performed to determine if physical fogging exists or if the headlamp is leaky. Remedy In advance, observe LI82.10-P-078301 "Headlamps or Front Fog Lamps Leaking or Fogged". 1. Prepare headlamp/check for external damage: For headlamps with a closed system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and check also for correct seating of the Gore-diaphragm/correct latching of the cover caps. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. For headlamps with an open system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and seal off the vent then make sure the cover caps are latched correctly into place. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. Note: A headlamp with external damage is not a warranty or goodwill case. 2. Leak test of headlamp with overpressure: Connect test adapter to pressure tester. (Figure 1) Check test adapter for leak tightness. To do so, connect plug and coupling (picture 2) and apply a maximum overpressure of 30 mbar. The pressure must remain constant. If the pressure does not remain constant, use a new adapter. Seal all the outlet openings using sealing compound and the given diaphragm with the plunger (picture 3). (Picture 4) Make allowance for the different headlamp variants here (there are different outlet openings). Check if the headlamp needs to be removed to gain access to the diagnostic socket on the headlamp housing. Plug the adapter onto the diagnostic socket on the headlamp housing. (Picture 5). Apply a maximum of 30 mbar overpressure to the headlamp housing. Note: If the maximum overpressure of 50 mbar is exceeded the headlamp seal will be damaged. If a pressure drop of less than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is not leaky and the problem is down to natural physical fogging. If a pressure drop of more than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is leaky. Note: The leaky position can be localized with the aid of soap suds. Replace any leaky headlamps. Note: Desiccant packs can be installed for headlamps that are not leaky. See: LI82.10-P-064766 Fogged headlamp, desiccant pack installed - open ventilation system LI82.10-P-078304 Fogged headlamp, desiccant pack installed - closed ventilation system

Drive vehicle into workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4 F) and connect the exhaust extraction. Note: Do not perform an engine wash before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine and connect battery support via a charger. 3. Open the hood or trunk. 4. Switch on the lights. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation, a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (thawing progress). Clearing fogged/condensed halogen/xenon headlamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4F). Note: Do not perform an engine wash before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine. 3. Open the hood. 4. Switch off the lights. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation, a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (thawing progress). Note: If there is no visible reduction in the formation of condensation, check the headlamp for a defect. (See Remedy 2) It is not physically possible to defog the headlamps completely. Fogging does not impair the operation or the service life of the headlamp. Remedy 2 A Damaged headlamp can be identified as follows: 1. Check the headlamp for external damage and that the cover caps and the diaphragm are correctly seated. 2. Check the electrical connectors of the plugs and pins. 3. Check for leak tightness in accordance with LI82.10-P-078307. The test can only be conducted on headlamps. 4. If the headlamp or the rear lamp has any external damage, replace the component part in accordance with the WIS instructions. Note: External damage to the headlamp/rear lamp or faulty seating of the cover caps does not present a warranty or goodwill case. With headlamps, it is possible to install desiccant packs if the problem occurs repeatedly. Open ventilation system: LI82.10-P-064766. Closed ventilation system LI82.10-P-078304

This does not lead to any technical impairment of the rear lamps. Remedy Rear lamp: Remedy 1: Clearing fogged/condensed rear lamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4 F) Note: Do not wash the vehicle or subject it to high-pressure cleaning before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine and connect battery support via a charger. 3. Open the trunk. 4. Switch on the exterior lighting. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation -> a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (defogging progress).
