Monaco IS recalling certain motor homes equipped with norcold refrigerators. a fatigue failure in the section of the cooling unit which contains the refrigerant could allow the liquid solution to slowly leak.
Extended operation of a leaking cooling unit could lead to a fire from gas which might escape.
Monaco IS working with norcold to repair these refrigerators. norcold will provide thermal switch kits to owners along with the necessary forms and instructions. The recall began on august 29, 2008. owners may contact norcold at 1-800-767-9101 or monaco at 1-800-685-6545.
On certain class a motor homes, the spacer plate under the trailing arms had a transverse weld which creates a heat riser and cause the trailing arms to crack.

Dealers will inspect the replace the trailing arms for cracks and replacing the trailing arms and u-bolts in the rear suspension of the motorhomes free of charge. the recall began on march 29, 2005. owners may contact monaco at 1-800-685-6545.

Dealers will replace the original i-beam. also, dealers will weld the stiffeners from the panard bar bracket to the center differential of the rear axle housing. owner notification began march 1, 2004. owners should contact monaco at 1-877-466-6226.
On certain motor homes, the brake assemblies exhibit elevated temperatures that can lead to catastrophic deterioration of the wheel end components such as bearings, races, spindles, knuckles, seals, hubs, rotors, patch bolts, calipers, brake pads, and ABS sensors.
This could result in loss of control, and/or the potential for a fire.
Dealers will inspect the front and rear brake calipers for corrosion and replace or rebuild the calipers as necessary. the recall began on august 18, 2004. owners should contact monaco at 1-800-685-6545.

TL* the contact owns a 2002 monaco coach knight. While driving on the interstate at an unknown speed, the motor failed to function and almost caused a catastrophic situation when the vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to inspect and diagnose the motor failure. In addition, a third party source investigated the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they could provide a permanent repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.

In june 2010, while on my way to church annual conference, my right rear brake overheated and melted the ABS sensor. I called for roadside assistance and he found the problem, got the brake released and I finished my trip with no problems. then in august 2010, while on my way to paintsville kentucky , my left front brake overheated. I was able to get stopped before the sensor melted and put a fan on the brake area and cooled it off. it was then free and I was able to continue on my trip with no additional problems. when I contacted workhorse about the problem they said my unit was not in the recall for the same problem. *tr
Vehicle involved IS a 2002 monaco knight motorhome originally equipped with bosch zops air over hydraulic disc brakes. All four brake calipers were repaired with bosch zoh-t anchor plate repair kits under recall campaign no. 02V278000 in 2004. In july 2009 the left rear brake became severely overheated causing transfer of brake pad material to the rotor and causing the ABS sensor to melt and fall loose from the caliper. Repair was made by replacing the left rear caliper, replacing both left and right brake pads, turning the left brake rotor and replacing the ABS sensor. *Tr
Thermal brake failure on us hwy 19 west of burnsville, nc. On 22 sept. 2008. the right front caliper overheated and caused a burned brake smell, strong pull of the steering wheel to the right, and a resultant ABS sensor failure. the piston failed to retract causing the brake pads to drag on the rotor resulting a heat build up, smoke billowed from the wheel well and the rotor glowed red. this IS my first failure. however, several fellow owners have reported similar brake failure. a 2004 recall replaced some bake parts. I don't feel comfortable that this type of failure will not happen again! I am seriously considering having the four calipers replaced at an estimated cost of $1250. after attending seminars, speaking with other owners, and several technicians, I believe monaco continues to have brake problems with motor homes that have bosch brake calipers installed. *Tr
Separation of firewall from floor boards. this IS a structural failure and allows exhaust gas from generator to enter inside of motorhome. mechanic at recent oil change and generator service noticed screws missing from firewall to floor board connection. there IS a horizontal separation of approximately 1/8 inch and a vertical separation of 3/16 inch. all of the screws, except for one, where missing or sheared off. there IS now a gap between the floor board to firewall mounting. upon starting the generator to verify operation after oil change and servicing, diesel exhaust fumes could be smelled inside the motor home. the generator was run for approximately 5 minutes and the you could smell the diesel exhaust fumes in the front half of the motor home. I contacted monaco coach corp. Twice, once by phone and once by email to their tech support. the call to monaco was on 10 july 2008 and I talked with bob pierson (1-877-466-6226). he stated that there was nothing that monaco would do as the coach IS 6 years old. he stated that I could send the pictures to him and he would look at them and forward them up the ladder. I received no response. I then contacted monaco by email, explaining the problem and enclosed the pictures. I got an automated acknowledgement to the emails and nothing else. I have tried to replace the screws, got 2 installed after jacking the firewall up to be able to install replacement screws, but the center section and the drivers side, I was not able to install screws and the firewall still remains unattached. there still IS a gap, horizontally of about 1/8 inch and vertically of about 1/8 inch from the center section all the way over to the driverside wall, as far as I can see. the coach has approximately 44,000 miles on it, 85 % highway or interstate, 15 % county or city roads. only gravel road travel has been in our driveway and rv parks. monaco coach number # 131966. *Tr
