These records cover every 2010 Nissan Cube. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
2 recalls name the 2010 Nissan Cube. Newest first.
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2009-2010 Cube vehicles. The driver’s air bag inflator may rupture or detach from the steering wheel during air bag deployment.
A driver's air bag that ruptures or detaches can strike the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Dealers will inspect the front air bag inflator serial number, and replace the inflator as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 9, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's number for this recall is R26A1. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 14, 2026.
Nissan IS recalling model year 2009-2010 nissan cube vehicles manufactured from january 30, 2009 through july 30, 2010. these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 301, "fuel system integrity." when the vehicle was rotated following a rear moving barrier crash test as required, the amount of fuel…
Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Dealers will develop a special protector and attach it to the gasoline recirculation tube at the location of the filler neck connector. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on september 13, 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Cube. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V230000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the parts were ordered. The contact stated that the parts had not been available for approximately 62 days. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Cube. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V230000 (AIR BAGS), the dealer discovered that the vehicle was not equipped with a front driver's side air bag. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased as a used vehicle from Marty Cancila Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (2175 N Hwy 67, Saint Louis, MO 63114); who had not disclosed that the vehicle was not equipped with the air bag. The Nissan dealer had ordered an air bag for the recall repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 139,000.
The contact owned a 2010 Nissan Cube. The contact stated that while driving at 5 MPH at an intersection and making a left turn, the front passenger's side near the front bumper of the vehicle collided with another vehicle. The contact stated that all the air bags deployed, with the exception of the front driver's side air bag. The contact sustained a neck injury and a gash cut on his left leg near the calf. No medical attention was required. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V230000(AIRBAGS). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Cube. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor on the exterior and in the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a cracked fuel tank filler neck. The contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Problem is the anti theft module located on the steering column has malfunctioned for my wife’s 2010 Nissan Cube keyless ignition. Vehicle would not restart for my wife after sitting for 5 hours, luckily she was not way off somewhere. From what I’ve seen Nissan did a recall of a similar defective module on other models but did not include the Cube. Nissan doesn’t even have the parts readily available for repair. Vehicle has been sitting at a repair shop for over a month now. This should be a safety issue as it could leave people totally stranded in the middle of nowhere with no meaningful way to repair the vehicle. The part number of the module is 487001 FA0C. It is believed that Nissan did not recall the Cube because of the low quantity of vehicles manufactured in relation to the other problem models.
Fuel level readings have been erratic for over 40,000 miles now. Fuel gauge will randomly show the fuel level with less than 1/4 tank left, even though the car has gone less than 100 miles after filling (while the car can travel over 300 miles on a full tank.) Then a little while later, the fuel level will appear normal. And this cycle will repeat many times before the tank is actually below 1/4 tank full, based on both mileage and the "normal" fuel level.
For a couple weeks on & off it’s been not wanting to go when I step on gas. I remember this doing same sort of thing before Allen web supposedly replaced my transmission as it was one of millions that are faulty as is one they put in 2018 only has 18,000 miles on tbis supposed replaced transmission & it’s in a mechanic shop as I write this a waiting on hopefully Nissan paying for this faulty transmission. I shouldn’t have to buy one when it’s only got 18,000 miles on it. I’ve almost been rear ended due to This ongoing problem. People behind me are ready to go when light turns green. I floor my gas pedal & it does nothing . Have to Hurry put my flashers on pray to God no one hits me & flag everyone to go around. I turn car off put I park first of course , wait few seconds & sometimes it thankfully goes into gear & i baby it rest of way as I don’t want to make it worse by flooring my gas pedal. I’m very careful & pray I make it rest my way to work or home whichever the case . I barely made it to work other day. My friend thankfully had my Nissan Cube towed to a shop as it turns out it in fact had all same codes as before they supposedly put newer one in P1778 p0868 P0725, p0746 & so on transmission CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE! $2,935 plus other huge problem totaling $4,431 ! I definitely shouldn’t have to be dealing with any of this again!! I don’t drive far to work, had surgery as well so didn’t drive many places for a bit this is why only gone 18,000 miles in 4 years. I called auto mall Nissan & asked about my warranty they told me it’s expired! For only 18,000 miles put in it that’s ridiculous! Hwy robbery! Talk about a lemon again. Could of been smashed up by a truck being behind me a lot of things could of happened endangering myself as well as drivers behind me & behind those people. Plus dangerous being on side of road waiting to see if it’s gonna go into gear again or not! I understand things wear out but this transmission should be good thousands of miles!
I was washing my car by hand and I was washing the driver's side rear view mirror and pivoted it away from the normal position so I could clean it better. When put it back to it's normal position, the hinge broke. When I looked closely at the hinge, I noticed that the hinge pretty much disintegrated, so it was just a matter of time before it broke. It could've broken off on the highway and been blown off, possibly damaging the vehicle or another vehicle, as the mirror was only hanging by the wires at that point. Also you can't drive a car without a driver's side mirror. I removed the mirror after I got done washing the car, so it wouldn't fall off and hit the car. I then ordered replacements for both the driver's side and passenger's side outside mirrors, including both the plain matte black covers, and the pre-primed covers, as I don't have to rush in getting the pre-primed covers painted to match the covers on the old mirrors. I attached the invoice for the replacements. The invoice doesn't include the cost of having the covers painted. I don't think the probably needs somebody else to confirm it, as the mirror is clearly separated from the bracket. The passenger's side mirror is showing the signs of starting to disintegrate, and both mirrors are available for inspection. Nobody else has inspected the mirrors. I tried to let the manufacturer know about it, but my email to them was bounced back as undeliverable. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to failure. The pictures of the mirror on the workbench are of the driver's side mirror, while the pictures of the mirror on the car are of the passenger's side mirror. I also included a picture of the odometer reading.
I saw that in phoenix az the safety recall began on september 13,2010 for fuel system, gasoline;storage. reported an saftey complaint on july 16TH, 2020 11:45 pm phoenix az. Electirocal stability control started on june 10TH 2020 didn't think much of it car cut off at an red light I turned my hazard lights on put the car in park and started the car up again. This happened again on july 15TH 2020 took it in to the dealer( auto action 1827 w broadway rd) I pay a car note with told them what happened they said they needed to run it to see what was going on and would not present and spare car for the inconvenience or had any car fax on hand. July 16TH 2020 I noticed that oil was indeed leaking from the bottom of the car.
My vehicle would not start. I had to have it towed to my mechanic where his computer diagnostic found the problem to be the steering module that starts the vehicle. I had to have it replaced at my cost of $971.00. My mechanic informed me that this same problem was prevalent in the year prior to mine and that they were being repaired by the manufacturer. I contacted the manufacturer and was told there was no campaign for my particular vin number. I don't understand why the year prior to mine IS covered but mine IS not. I am the original owner of the vehicle and I have had this vehicle serviced as required through the dealership originally, then continued by my mechanic. I would like to file a complaint against this manufacturer to get reimbursed for this defect.
Passenger side screw and lug nuts broke half off the tire. Causing a loud noise of the tire wobbling. Tire was pushed in and holding by one screw and lug nut. Now the driver side tire did the same thing. The first time this happened the vehicle was in motion same with the second incident.
TL* the contact owns a 2010 nissan cube. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven to a location and parked. When she attempted to restart the vehicle, it would not start and a flashing orange key illuminated on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was towed to alexander nissan (10 alexander dr, muncy, pa 17756) where it was diagnosed that the emergency safety lock needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
After a few years or few thousand miles, the cvt transmission may partially fail and it may not be indicated properly in the dashboard. this results in vehicle not getting enough power to drive. So, vehicle may stall in the roads or highways causing safety issues to both vehicle occupants and others in the road/highways. Stopping and restarting may not solve the issue. It could move the vehicle a bit farther but it may be at a very slower speed than the posted limits. The vehicle may produce a unique sound at times. the indication "service engine soon" comes a few days later and it IS possible that the user of the car may not fully realize the condition.
Power steering lock assembly IS defective. Vehicle happened to be stationary at the time, locks the car from starting using the start button, car wont even turn over, dealer states part must be replaced. This exact same problem was addressed by a ntsb recall for 2009 - 2010 altimas and one other model but not the cube krom
Steering wheel does not lock. Dash lights come on, key IS recognized, but sometimes engine does not start due to dead battery. failure seems to be steering lock mechanism in unlocked position at all times causing battery to drain. battery replaced 2 times in 9 months.alternator checks out good. Tired of being stranded!!!!car was stationary when incidents occur. Happening every other day for past 2 months.
Rear door doesn't open, read many similar reports. When cars are submerged into water often escaping through the trunk IS the only option, not acceptable to have a faulty latch in all the earlier models.
Cvt transmission failed in middle of intersection. Lucky it re-engaged just in time to avoid being t-boned. Towed 2010 cube to dealer, determined cvt failed and needs new cvt transmission. Learned cvt transmission IS covered in service campaign but nissan still refused to correct known issue stating it was out of warranty. This IS a huge safety issue that nissan IS refusing to avoiding notifying owners of the risk of driving a 2010 cube. Mileage IS just over 120,000 miles. Other than the abrupt transmission failure when driving, the car IS in great condition. Not only IS nissan selling cubes that go just over 120,000 then break, they are hiding in the fact this IS a huge safety issue. Nissan wants $4,500 to fix a safety problem they 100% know IS a big issue.
In 2013, my airbag light went off all of a sudden after a few miles of driving and it was red until recently when the mechanic manually turn it off.
Airbags indicator light will come on and off periodically while driving had it to dealership several times and was told this IS what it does and it just needs reset. I was also told their waiting for a recall and that when indicator light IS on ,, airbags are not working,,, this happens while driving,, only
Water leaks into rear end of my car. It has been repaired twice and continues to leak hard rain, car washing, snow, ice, case leaking. results are dampness, mold, odor. Contacted nissan corp. Once I found other owners complaining about same problem with same vehicle. I own two of these same cars and only one has this problem.
Takata recall
TL* the contact owns a 2010 nissan cube. While the vehicle was stationary, it failed to start when prompted. The contact was able to get the vehicle to start. Directly after removing the key from the ignition, the vehicle continued to operate. Germaine nissan in columbus, ohio was made aware of the failure and replaced the battery and ignition switch, but the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the previous repairs were not the cause of the failure. After further inspection, it was determined that the pressure release valve was faulty and allowed water to enter the vehicle's electrical system. The failure caused severe rust and corrosion in the driver's side door panel. In addition, the contact's insurance company sent a mechanic out to assess the vehicle. The mechanic stated that the failure was due to a manufacturer's defect and there were no recalls. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 104,000. The vin was not available.
In a side collision crash on 6/3/17, side air curtain did not deploy. Vehicle was in motion at 35 mph speed limit. Car was thrown against pass. Side of cube. Front and side airbags did not deploy.....updated 06/21/17 *bf *js
As of february 2017, what I later found out was the continuously variable transmission, also known as, cvt transmission, started to fail on my 2010 nisan cube, which has only one owner. On the way to work a loud whining noise came from under the hood. As I was driving on a very busy street, the car started to accelerate and decelerate randomly while in drive. The check engine light would also occasionally illuminate. Several mechanics could not figure out what was wrong, until I took the cube to a mechanic that knew about the many failures the nissan cvt transmission was having. I was told then that nissan had created a customer satisfaction program to deal with the cvt failure; of which I was never informed by nissan. Even though I continue to receive emails and ads for the company. the letter from nissan states that the warranty on the cvt will be extended. "First to provide you with additional assurance regarding your overall cost of ownership we have doubled the warranty period for the continuously variable transmission in your nissan.: it also states "10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first." my nissan cube IS currently seven years old. I have over 128,000 miles. I never received a copy of this letter. I purchased this car in february 2010 and this letter states the end of this reimbursement program ended 7/31/2010! what does that mean for me? My car IS not 10 years old! I have been without a car for over two months now. I will probably have to pay for the repairs out of pocket. Also in this letter states "a small percentage of owners of early models equipped with cvts have expressed concerns about the cost of the repair of transmission after the warranty expires." does this cover my vehicle? there are complaints on nhtsa about the cvt; the ID #10919979 and #10587829 and their were more listed her with the nhtsa. nissan case #26415319
The electronic steering interlock mechanism failed, on and off until it finally quit working and the car would not start as a result (the car was stationary each time the problem occurred, which happened at several locations around lexington, ky). I had it towed to a dealer, glenn nissan, lexington, ky. Initial and follow-up repairs cost $1,053.35. This was definitely a safety hazard in terms of potentially being stuck without transportation, and a faulty mechanism affecting the steering performance of the car. today I learned that nissan extended the warranty on the vehicle due to a significant number of problems experienced by their customers worldwide. My car IS past the 3-year extension period (by the way, I did not receive any notice of the warranty extension). The nature of this vehicular problem demanded a recall of the vehicle, not an extension of the warranty. I am therefore registering this complaint with your agency and asking for your investigation of this case. In addition, the law firm of chimicles & tikellis, llp, IS investigating a potential class action law suit against nissan regarding the defective, unsafe electronic steering interlock installed on the 2009-2010 nissan cube model and two other models. I have provided information on my case to join that class action suit if it goes forward. I and all consumers need the national highway and safety administration to hold auto manufacturers accountable for selling defective, unsafe cars to the public and for failing to properly issue recalls on such vehicles. Please advise as to your intentions for taking action on this matter. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25005 on June 13, 2025, to assess the scope, root cause, and potential defect in 2009 Model Year (MY) Nissan Cube vehicles equipped with Takata PSDI-X air bag inflators. At the time the investigation was opened, analysis by Nissan and Takata (now New Leaf LLC) indicated that a rupture occurred at a weld point between the inflator cap and housing in a 2009 MY Nissan Cube.Nissan ruled out the propellant degradation root cause characteristic of the larger, well known, Takata recall, and instead identified a welding root cause. On April 9, 2026, Nissan North America, Inc. submitted a Part 573 Safety Recall Report to address the weld defect.Recall 26V230 includes the 28,388 2009 MY vehicles identified in the opening resume for this investigation and expands the population to include 2010 MY Nissan Cube vehicles for a total population of 47,928 vehicles produced between October 10, 2008, and September 25, 2010.Nissan identified the driver’s front air bag inflator (Takata PSDI-X, Part Number 98560-7991C) produced by TK Services Inc. within a specific lot may contain an improper body weld seal to the inflator base. This improper weld can cause the air bag module to detach from the steering wheel during deployment, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant in the event of a crash. Dealers will inspect the serial number on the driver’s air bag inflator in recalled vehicles to identify the air bag inflator lot. If the inflator is part of the affected lot, the dealer will remove and replace it with a new inflator manufactured by a different supplier. This repair will be performed free of charge. See NHTSA Recall No. 26V230 for further details. Based on Nissan's recall action, this Preliminary Evaluation is closed.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
